Re: [1st] Replacement? for CD-ROM-(PM 6100/60)
so it is, in my experience no unit that is not labeled apple is bootable on these machines, though it works perfectly as a scsi unit... then, again, i managed to boot off one, but it then only seems my drive if I boot the computer with the system CD in it... posted this once on the list, weird stuff :) ANdrei --- The question of whether computers can think is like the question of whether submarines can swim. Any help would be appreciated-I just do not want to mess around blindly. I quick google search of CRX170E gives a link to a g-list post that identifies the Sony as an ATA device. If this true it won't work in a 6100 you will need a SCSI device for a replacement. To verify this, count the number of pins on the connector where the Sony CD-R/RW connects to the 6100 ribbon cable. This will tell you what type of device you have. --glen (digest mode) -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: [1st] Replacement? for CD-ROM-(PM 6100/60
Absolutely right. You'll have to find a SCSI replacement, end of story. You can always think about a SCSI cd writer. Can be very useful.
