Often I post just one voice of a multi-part piece. Or just enough of
the voice to illustrate the feature or misfeature I'm talking about in
 my post.

Just for the record: incomplete tunes aren't even considered for the
abcusers tune archive.

had ABC files that weren't in my Tune Finder's indexes. It found

The rest were already in my index with at least one ABC file.

[abcusers] small fragments?

2001-04-03 Thread Jack Campin

The following didn't turn up any ABC at all. Anyone know about
any of them, maybe a better URL to find the tunes?

  http://famdeboer.www.cistron.nl/bagpipe.html

That one contains a ZIP file of bagpipe music auto-converted from
Bagpipe Music Writer format. The notes are mostly there, but none
of the tunes is usable without heavy editing. There is also some
serious copyright violation going on (mostly for tunes that weren't
worth ripping off in the first place), unless the transcriber has
gone to a lot more work getting clearance than he says.

Thanks so much for the reply. When you say "small fragments" are you talking
about pieces of one tune, or just a few selections out of one file?
I can see where you are coming from on that if it is just a piece of a tune.
And also about making the enhancements if it is even more than one tune.
Do you share your website with everyone or is it more for personal use of
friends and associates?

Often I post just one voice of a multi-part piece. Or just enough of
the voice to illustrate the feature or misfeature I'm talking about in
my post. Since the ABC standard isn't very standard with respect to
multiple voice works, it wouldn't always be useful to post the whole
thing. And a lot of the pieces I publish are parts of larger works --
I've done the two voice and three-voice canzonets by Thomas Morley,
and I'm working on the Dowland books of lute songs and ayres. So the
final typesetting is the book form of that, and each ABC file is just
a small piece of the whole work.

The one in my .sig is for everyone.
http://www.laymusic.org/music-publish.html is the section that has all

machine that I'll occasionally use to share things with friends that
would take up too much space on the public one. But I usually put my
transcriptions up in public pretty soon after I do them. Sometimes
people help me with the proofreading because of that.
