Hi, we are planning to migrate from NT to AD 2003 in the near future. We
are trying to figure out the specs for new HW requirements. We are
concerned with the amount of space that we will need in our DC to host the
DB. I know that the more space the better, but will the DB be too big? At
what rate will it grow. Will 70G will be plenty for an org with 300 users?

Best regards,
Juan

Yup, I agree it should be sufficient, unless Juan some additional
AD-integrated apps that might blow up the size of the database.

Have you looked at the ADSizer tool? Can be helpful when you're
starting out.

Juan,

If we are talking about 70 Gigabyte to
hold the ntds.dit database, then I would say, WAUW..

I can tell you from my experience, one of
the projects I did was with 15000 users, 800 sites, something like 15800
computer objects and the database grew in a year to approx 1.5 gigabytes.

70GB
is more than enough for the size of your organization. We have ~ 800 users, and
our DC's use much less than 1GB for the database. We have 3 sets of mirrored
drives in our DC's for redunancy and performance. Seperate out the Logs,
Database, and Sysvol folders from the system drive.

If you
mean for AD DIT only, that should be considerably more than you will need unless
you are doing some very unusual things like storing huge binary blobs in AD. My
largest domain in terms of users is about 100,000 users and 30-40k groups and
50k or so machines and it is only about 4GB. Our entire forest with a couple of
hundred thousand users, probably 100k machines, 80k or so groups, and 150k or so
contacts spread acrossnine domains has a GC size ofabout
8GB.
