[analog-help] analog basics
Hi I have read through the archive of help files but I'm still stumped. It's as if I can find instructions on how to fine-tune a car's engine when all I want is to know where to put the key to make it start! I have got a file of downloaded logs in C\Analog\Logfiles. The file for a day would look like access_log.ncsa.2002.11.05 I have created a folder to put the reports in C\Analog\Reports I have rewritten the analog.cfg file to read Logfile C:\Analog\|Logfiles\access_log.* Outfile C:\Analog\Reports.html Hostname www.lockerspark.herts.sch.uk Now when I go to analog.exe and doubleclick it, I get a brief flash of a DOS screen and that's all. (I have an icon called Favicon.ico, but when I click on it I'm asked what program I want to open it with?!) and zilch in the rports folder. Any ideas - and I'm talking step by step here. Please help an old lady prove she's not past it! Pam + | This is the analog-help mailing list. Re: [analog-help] analog basics
Pam, I suggest you try to run analog from an already open DOS window so that you can see any error messages. This is easiest done by using MS-DOS prompt on the start, programs menu. From there you will need to type CD \analog and press enter and then type analog and press enter. If there are any errors then you should see them listed on the DOS box. You may like to check your logfile line. In your message there is a stray | before the word logfiles - if it is actually there in the .cfg file then you probably want to remove it. Also, do you know whether is c:\analog\reports.html being created - try opening it in a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) as this would be the output and will show you your statistics. I would suggest renaming your log file to a safe 8.3 name (and change the config file to match) i.e. .log . you didnt state what o/s you were running on (on the machine your running analog). -- This e-mail (including any attachments) is intended solely for the intended recipient. Dudgeon, Pam [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Now when I go to analog.exe and doubleclick it, I get a brief flash of a DOS screen and that's all. Analog is a command line tool. If you want to run Analog by double clicking on it from the desktop, then you should either create a 2 line batchfile (call it run.bat) with these commands: c:\analog\analog pause and double-click on run.bat instead of analog.exe or else add ERRFILE C:\Analog\Errors.txt to your analog.cfg so that Analog will write whatever error messages you are now ignoring to a text file so you can see what went wrong. (I have an icon called Favicon.ico, but when I click on it I'm asked what program I want to open it with?!) Windows knows what to do with .exe files, so it doesn't have to ask you. Re: [analog-help] Using the INSEARCHENGINE command
After reading the basic information at the FreeFind.com Web site, I am very much under the impression that they host site indexes and search services on their servers. If this is the case, you will need their server logs in order to use the Analog command that you mentioned. Analog is good, but it can't analyze data that isn't in your log file or isn't otherwise made available to it to parse. -- Duke Arthur McBryan wrote: Sorry about this, but if someone could help me set up an INTSEARCHENGINE using http://search.freefind.com/find.html to search my site, I would be grateful. Re: [analog-help] Using the INSEARCHENGINE command
Uh... you can still use the SEARCHENGINE commands with it. It should produce referrer information that you can analyze as with any other search engine report. Of course to distinguish between it and any external engines you may have to use a REFINCLUDE filter. -- Jeremy Wadsack Wadsack-Allen Digital Group Arthur McBryan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wednesday, November 06, 2002 11:17 AM): Thanks for your advice...
