[android-beginners] Re: Runtime exception involving getActiveNetworkInfo unable to find source code

2010-02-17 Thread higonnet
Solved.

The problem was that I did not have permission ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. I
found this out by executing getAllNetworkInfo in a try block and
reading the error message in catch{Exception e}.

Probably I have something badly configured in Eclipse/Android but it
would have saved me a lot of trouble if this error message had been
displayed 'normally'...

 I get a runtime exception and what I take to be a call stack the most

  ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread$ActivityRecord)

 Eclipse opens a tab (with the line above as the title) in a debug pane
 next to my source code, informs me in that tab Source not found. and
 provides a button labeled Edit Source Lookup Path When I click
 on that button and then Add...I am offered seven roots of places

They are names for the differnt versions. Cupcake=v1.5

My phone, for example, ues 1.5 so I am developing with SDK 1.5.

They are not bound to different versions of linux, however, android is

beed tested to build in ubunto.

For development, you don't need to download any of these, just the

[android-beginners] Re: How to download android source code in windows machine

2010-02-17 Thread XCaffeinated
There is a great page here Attaching Android platform source in
Eclipse:

http://android.opensourceror.org/2010/01/18/android-source/

that explains both how to get the correct sources for the platform you
are looking for and how to get Eclipse to recognize it.

The author also took the time to gather zips of sources for 1.5, 1.6
and 2.1, which you can just download and start browsing immediately.
Skip down to the section on 'What you came here for'. Immediately
after that section he explains how to get it working with Eclipse.

He also has links to several other related articles.

Hope this helps!

[android-beginners] Adhoc net connection over Wi-Fi

2010-02-17 Thread ayush
Hi,

   I am trying to browse the net over Wi-Fi on my android developer
phone. I have created an Ad-hoc connection on my Mac and want to
connect the phone to this using Wi-Fi.
   The setup is working perfectly when I connect my iPod Touch to the
Mac. However in the case of the ADP, I am unable to browse the net. It
keeps giving the message There was a network error.
I am able to connect the ADP to the network and it shows
connected with an excellent signal strength. It even acquires an IP
automatically from the Mac. I have tried with both the Open as well as
WEP encrypted network. However I am unable to browse or even access my
Gmail account.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

[android-beginners] Parcel.createStringArray() throwing errors

2010-02-17 Thread brucko
This doesn't seem to be working properly.

What I am trying to do is pass a class through onActivityResult()
using a Bundle I have put in the associated Intent.

To this end, I have made my class implement Parcelable with all the
associated methods and
 CREATOR.

The parcel is written when, eventually, the following method is called

public void writeToParcel(Parcel dest, int flags) {
Log.d(TAG,writing to parcel...);

dest.writeInt(value);
dest.writeStringArray(options);
dest.writeIntArray(conversions);
dest.writeInt(system);
}

...and read back out later with

private void readFromParcel(Parcel in) {
Log.d(TAG,reading from parcel...);
in.setDataPosition(0);
value = in.readInt();
options = in.createStringArray();
conversions = in.createIntArray();
system = (short) in.readInt();
}

My problem is that when creating the options String Array, I get the
error below. When I remove the lines that write and create the String
array  everything works fine.

As you can see, I'm being told that an array size is too large. The
array has THREE elements.

Has anyone had experience with this? Is there something I'm
overlooking?

[android-beginners] Re: setting the volume of a media player

2010-02-17 Thread Indicator Veritatis
Yes, you are right, they should have documented there. They didn't.
Fortunately, though, others have asked this question before in this
group, and the answer may thus be found at the much earlier post,
http://groups.google.com/group/android-beginners/browse_thread/thread/f1848285f8f3b60c

David Sparks answered the question in that thread.

 Hi,

 I am trying the raise / reduce the volume of my MediaPlayer using the
 function setVolume(float leftVolume, float rightVolume) but I am not
 sure how to use this function. The documentation says that they have
 to be raw scalars. Can anyone put more light on this function, as to
 how I can use this to increase or reduce the volume of mediaplayer on
 a button click.

 Thanks,
 Prajakta
