[android-developers] Re: Android Apps purchasing from anywhere in the world

2010-05-25 Thread Amir Alagic
Hi,

I don't think that this will happen any time soon for you in
Singapore. Google is living on ads and few months ago Google bought
AdMob for 750 million dollars. It it not in their interest to improve
paid apps after they invested so much money in mobile advertising.

Last year Google said that they will give us list of countries that
will get paid apps... but it is more than a year and still almost
nothing. There were some rumors that paid apps will come to Sweden at
the end of Q1 2009, then that it will come in october 2009, then that
it will come in Q1 2010 but nothing. Many people ask questions about
that on so called Help forum for Android Market but nobody from Google
is answering even if some people asked for more than a year.

People that were on Google IO got 100 dollars checks to use with
Adwords/Adsense (friend that was there told me about that). It looks
like that Google prefer adds... I hope that I am wrong.

apologize for the delays in the shipments; we had some issues which

Contacting the shipping vendor would be pointless, they are a

Nothing is being held back for anything. There's no reason to do so,

one of the top apps in Android Market and now he almost stopped all
work on that app and is moving to iPhone. He should get Nexus One but
it only few hundreds of dollars while with good app on App Store one

Lack of information is also problem. Last year Google said that more
countries will get paid apps... Google said that list will be

guess that with this attitude Android Market will become place for
free soundboards, themes and low quality apps. Of course there will be

[android-developers] Re: Paid apps in more countries - I am sick about it

2010-04-14 Thread Amir Alagic
I think that Google know what it is doing. All developers are excited
about Android... we say it is open, free, no control... much
better than iPhone OS... and we are developing applications for
Android... this is second year that we hope that paid apps will come
soon...

While iPhone developers get money... millions... we will get Nexus One
from Google and promise that paid apps will come soon. Same story in
2009... same story in 2010... and when we get paid apps in 2011 there
will be so many free apps that no one will want/need to buy an app...

Google wants more users and if they can tell to users that more than
65% of all apps are free apps unlike on iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian,
Windows... then users will buy Android with free apps... and Google
will get more users... more revenues from adds... and we will maybe
get Nexus Two from Google and Motorola... Nexus three

I like Android but Google is no different than Apple, Microsoft or any
other large company... Google only has different methods to control
and achieve what they want...

  android.view.InflateException Error inflating class
java.lang.reflect.Constructorl=458). The topmost frame refers to a 'throw'
statement(line 512) that is inside a catch of a lower level exception. I
can't tell what part of the createView() function throws that lower level
  exception.
I also tried to search around for the error string Error inflating class
java.lang.reflect.Constructor, but couldn't found one with a similar stack
trace. (There are known crashes with this error message caused inside
android.preference.* package, but mine is a simple widget layout and not
preferences, as you might have seen in the XML file I attached earlier.)

I now have 9 reports of this crash and all of them are confirmed to be using
Sprint HTC Hero devices. This problem hasn't been reported on any other
phone. Is it fair to assume that it's a problem in that particular ROM? If
that's so, then what options do I have to resolve this issue - should I wait
  helplessly for HTC/Sprint's next update?

  Any suggestions are appreciated.

  Thanks.

Are you inflating a view in a background-thread and not in the main
   gui-thread?
But then again, your code works on other Android phones

Yes that's true. The layout is inflated in background thread, but is made
part of the root hierarchy (setContentView) only in the GUI thread.

This doesn't give any problem on emulator or any other phones.

Hi,

Try with

Intent intent = new Intent(arg);
...
intent.putExtra(username, userNameValue);
startActivity(intent);

Then on next activity use

String userNameValue = getIntent().getStringExtra(username);

I have asked the Flex team in our company to make some app which can
import images and you can drag and drop them with options like locking
   movement and hiding..
Then the app will generate an xml with all ImageViews and positions in

I can post it here if someone requests for the application..

 Not at this time.

The layout editor is a work in progress. In 0.9, we added basic
drag'n'drop support but we haven't added support for manipulating
views in the layout directly yet.

[android-developers] Re: Will ADP1 support payed apps from the store

2009-02-26 Thread Amir Alagic

I really don't belive that Android Market has bright future.
Everything is going slow and it is strange that developers can spend
400 dollars plus shipping... but we can't sell applications.

But that is not the only reason I think that Android Market is going
to loose its role. In future Samsung, LG and probably all other phone
manufacturers will have their own Markets.
Android OS is open source project and Samsung and other will probably
remove Android Market from their phones and will put shortcut to their
Market. Why to loose such opportunity?
They want money and don't want to give 30% to Google when they can
earn that money instead.

I guess that phone manufacturers will create much better markets and
when they do that it will be faster and better because they need to
earn money now when phone sales are down.
So we'll have to wait few more months but I guess that from october or
november we'll have few first class markets available and only smaller
companies that don't have its own Markets will
let Google to ear 30%... But how long it will take before even smaller
players create their Markets is just question of time. In the
meanwhile switch to iPhone, Symbian or just continue to write
Android applications and the real markets will come...

hopping that it will, because otherwise we will be not able to see the
competition`s apps and many more features which will be missing if
there is no payed apps on the phone.

 Thanks!

[android-developers] Re: Any updates on paid apps timeline?

2009-01-05 Thread Amir Alagic

Welcome to the world of Java ME... There are many different devices
that support Java ME with different display sizes, different support
for API´s but that it not impossible to solve. To earn some money we
have to put some effort. Develop for different phones, test on all of
them and when we sell application like in Java ME world we should put
the list of phones that work with our app. That is the best
solution...

I also hope that Android Market will be available for paid
applications in Sweden... Many developers have applications or would
like to write and join but are waiting to see if and when will Android
Market come to Sweden... iPhone is more attractive right now...

And I have read here that it is easy to register company in UK
(online) and wonder if I can get a link to that web site?

Best Regards
