This bug comments on the accuracy of the number of updates pending. I
think the issue at hand in this thread is whether or not the
notification appears at all if an update is available.

I've never NOT been notified (in the notification bar) of a pending
update, but I also don't always get the notification very quickly. It
could sometimes be a couple days after the update is available. But
it is always there. Sometimes I beat the notification if I launch
the market and look at my downloads and there happens to be an update,
but I don't think it's broken. I just think it's slow. Perhaps the
service that issues the notification just doesn't poll very
frequently.

I've been wondering about the same thing, but re paid apps in
countries or with carriers that don't support them. It isn't just a
problem for links on web sites for that, though. I can't even tell
from the free versions of my apps if I can launch the market intent
for the paid versions successfully on a particular phone (using public
APIs anyway). If the user can't see paid apps in the market, I really
shouldn't be showing them buttons to launch market intents to go to
the details pages of those apps. I guess you'd know the Android
version there, at least, though.

[android-developers] Re: marketplace + chrome

2010-04-24 Thread Bob Kerns
I'm 90% sure it works for me.

I took it as far as I could just now, without actually uploading. I
don't think I've been forced to use a different browser in the past.
But there's a chance I did so, because I have to log out of Google
Groups to log into my market account because they're associated with
different Google accounts. Using two different browsers makes that
easy.

I'll double check when I upload my next update, but I just wanted to
flag that maybe there's something else going on. Like maybe one of
your Chrome extensions is mangling the page?

On Apr 23, 8:36 am, Greg Donald gdon...@gmail.com wrote:

Upgrade ] link.  I restarted Chrome to make sure it wasn't a fluke
thing, still didn't work.  I then opened the About Chrome dialog and
let it check for an update.  It said I was good to go.  Maybe it's the
horrible Marketplace code, maybe it's Chrome, who knows.

So as my teenage daughter might say, Google, would you like some epic
 with that fail?  :)

 Firefox to the rescue.

[android-developers] Re: marketplace linking - any way to track referrals ?

2010-01-20 Thread String
If you're asking, Does the Market support this functionality?... the
answer is No.

If you're asking How do I accomplish this in my own code?... I think
it'd be a manual process. Something like this, for example:

1. When the user clicks the button in Color Meter, log that action
(probably in SharedPreferences)
2. Register a BroadcastReceiver in Color Meter for the
ACTION_PACKAGE_ADDED intent.
3. When received, check to see if the newly-installed package is Super
Camera
4. If it is, log it to a server somewhere
5. Compare the counts on that server to your raw install numbers for
Super Camera

It's quite a long way around the barn, and obviously requires that
Color Meter has Internet permission (which it may not have now). And
there might be an easier way that I'm not seeing right now. But unless
Google dramatically improves the Market data available to devs (we can
hope), I'm thinking this kind of approach is your only option.

Question is, are these stats worth that LOE to you?

String

 Hi,

I'd like to know if a user downloaded my app from marketplace via a
 referral from another app. Example:

Color Meter is an app which analyzes colors in an image. The user
can download my advanced camera app, Super Camera,  which works well
with Color Meter, and is suggested by the Color Meter author via a
button in their app. If the user chooses to click that button, market
place launches, directed to the Super Camera page. The user may
download Super Camera. But there is no way for me to know that this
user downloaded Super Camera via a button from the Color Meter app vs.
a random search they made themselves.

Is there a way to do this?

 Thanks

If you have sync turned off, the market will ask you to 'enable
background data usage' Then takes you to the Data synchronization,
background data setting.

My guess is that it sends a list of applications that you have
installed with their version numbers, which is how it can tell if they
need to be updated. But like I said, this is all just me speculating.

Some people create iso's of Android with SAM on it, as it is the closet

This week, we are releasing SAM 2.3, which will provide support for paid
