Re: [Asterisk-Users] My Grandstream works, but my X-Lite doesn't:no sound after 5sec

2003-10-16 Thread Stephen R. Besch
The issue with the 10BaseT in the 102 is not the autosensing by the
switch/hub. The problem arises when using the 102 as a local hub for
your PC. Anything that you plug into the Net port on the 102 comes out
at 10BaseT. If you want to run your PC at 100BaseT, you need an extra
cable from the 100BaseT Switch/Hub, regardless of the autoswitching
capacity.

Our experience with the Budget Tones 101have been poor as well. The
devices seem to die after a day or two (even with the new firmware) and
then need to be rebooted. On occasion, the device needs to be literally
unplugged and plugged back in as even the reset doesn't work.

There are some nice features, but we have all but given up on them for
a production environment. Relative to the Cisco ATAs and other devices
we are using, the price/performance ratio is not there, particularly
from a support cost perspective. If they get the thing to be more
stable then we will reconsider them.

Mine is a small sample set (~10) but a couple of them are the primary
phones I've been using--I'm a pretty heavy user--and over several weeks
we seem to be doing fine with them. The CW tone is extremely annoying,
and one has to be a bit deliberate in hitting the keypad, but I haven't
had to do any rebooting or fiddling.

I'm ramping up my use of them, TCP-slow-start-like. My results have
been pretty satisfactory considering the low cost.

I've also got no problem with the GS102, yes the 10BaseT is a bit
annoying, but these units are RRP 75USD, and you can get them cheaper.
Sipphone, FWD and Nikotel offer them at less or in a bundle. I think the

I only have 1 but the absolutly only time it has to be rebooted is when I
change a parameter or upgrade the firmware. It has run for weeks without
any problem. Another poster mentioned the 10 vs. 100 Ethernet speed.
Maybe Grandstream can upgrade the interface in future hardware. I don't
imagine that the price point for 10/100 is much different than 10 these
days.

One option I would definatly like is the ability to turn off the ringer.
Since my testing ususally happens after my wife goes to bed it would help
NOT to have the audible ring but only the visual indication!

That is my thought too - I only have a couple cheap 4 port switches that
won't autosense, and are pure 100, everything else runs fine at either 10

I should TFTP the latest firmware. But I do want to try to get X-Lite

Wow... topic drift occurred *real* quick on this thread. :)

I'd like to hear more people address the issue with the X-Lite. Believe it
or not, my original post *was* about the X-Lite and not the Grandstream.
In spite of the fact that I don't like it, it does work for just placing
simple SIP-SIP and SIP-PSTN calls, and X-Lite, right now, doesn't.
