Re: [Blackbelly] Death of a spring lamb
Sounds like a broken neck. I have had this in 2 ewes. They get to fighting and get a spinal chord injury. [Blackbelly] (Blackbelly) Death of a spring lamb
Trisha I am sorry about the loss of your lamb. Whenever limbs don't work, I always suspect some neurological problem first. Either a broken neck or back would cause the legs not to work. Usually when you pick a lamb up it will move, but not in this case. If it was struggling to get up and couldn't, that would be my best guess. Re: [Blackbelly] Death of a spring lamb
If he was a big healthy lamb several mos old especially if grain fed may have been overeating disease also known as Clostridium perfringens type D. It's a bacterial infection. Can have your vet do a postmortem and then may want to start vaccinating for it. Or grain less heavily.
