The XP Home drivers should work fine with XP Pro. We also have a ThinkPad

Hi list, we just installed Windows on our laptop computer Windows Pro.
This laptop is an IBM Think/pad and we need to install drivers for it.
We have a copy of the drivers, but, we think that they are for Windows XP
home instead of Pro.
Is there a difference and if so, how can we find an accessible site to
find the drivers.

We are using Jaws 7.00 and System Access.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Julio,
It sounds like the users must type a password to log onto this computer
checkbox is checked.
Sometimes installing an update will do this for some unexplained reason.
Here's the solution.
1. Go to the run dialog with WindowsKeyPlusR.
Type the following without the quotes: control userpasswords2 and hit
enter.
3. You should be on the above mentioned checkbox.
4. Uncheck it with the spacebar and hit enter.

Next time you reboot you should go straight to the desktop without the need
to enter a pwd.

[Blind-Computing] Error message when accessing folders on a Windows XP computer

2009-11-26 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
Hello all, please can you help?
I'm trying to access my 'Documents' folder on my external drive.
Whilst I can access all the files and folders on my Windows 7 laptop,
whenever I try to access it on a Windows XP computer, I get an error
message that the folder is not accessible; access denied. Does anyone
know what settings I need to change to make folders available to both
Windows 7 and XP computers? Please note they are not shared on a
network, so it is not a sharing issue. Also, the Windows 7 I have on
my laptop is 64 bit whilst the XP computer I'm writing this message on

Thank you very much. Please reply as soon as possible.
Take care.

I think the newer os may have set permissions for accounts that do not exist

The permissions sounds right John, but as this machine is part of a
network on the university, we all have unique user IDs and passwords.
So I am not sure if this will make a difference, however I will see
what permissions are set in Windows 7 and go from there. Thanks for

 wi fi.
therefore i am looking for a portable device that has jaws or system

to connect to the hotel's internet service.
i know a lap top is capable of doing this but they can be rather heavy to

so i am looking for something else.
a lap top will do if nothing else is available i would like an i pod but
 not
found any with talking software for menu's and field data entry such as
field for credit card details using online shopping.
is there such an i pod around that will suit my needs?
if not can someone recommend a portable machine that will serve the
 requirements.
i am looking to buy one so if someone has such an item they can email me
 offline.
failing that can anyone tell me where i may obtain this item?

it is essential that it has wi fi, and a screen reader jaws or system
 access.
but above all else it does need to have voice on menu structure.

hello members.
i go on holiday a few times a year and one of the hotels i stay at now
has

wi fi.
therefore i am looking for a portable device that has jaws or system
access
to connect to the hotel's internet service.
i know a lap top is capable of doing this but they can be rather heavy to
carry while using a white cane.
so i am looking for something else.
a lap top will do if nothing else is available i would like an i pod but
not
found any with talking software for menu's and field data entry such as
field for credit card details using online shopping.
is there such an i pod around that will suit my needs?
if not can someone recommend a portable machine that will serve the
requirements.
i am looking to buy one so if someone has such an item they can email me
offline.
failing that can anyone tell me where i may obtain this item?

it is essential that it has wi fi, and a screen reader jaws or system
access.
but above all else it does need to have voice on menu structure.

thank you

Hi list, we just installed Windows on our laptop computer Windows
Pro.

This laptop is an IBM Think/pad and we need to install drivers for it.
We have a copy of the drivers, but, we think that they are for Windows
XP
home instead of Pro.
Is there a difference and if so, how can we find an accessible site to
find the drivers.
We are using Jaws 7.00 and System Access.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] Jaws 11 with Skype 4.1 scripts

2009-11-26 Thread Don Risavy, Jr.
Hello,

I have Skype 4.1 installed and have downloaded and installed the latest Jaws
scripts for Skype 4.1 and after followed the installation steps using the
installation file for the latest jaws scripts have not noticed the scripts
being loaded or working when using jaws 11 with Skype 4.1. So wondered if
might have missed a step or not doing something correct to make the scripts
work with Skype 4.1 and Jaws 11?

Any help and or suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks and happy Thanksgiving.

Why not look at using the portable version of the NVDA screen reader?
This

can run off a normal USB pen. NVDA is free and unlike Jaws does not use
Video intercept drivers. This means it can work straight off the pen on
any windows machine with XP, or later, without needing to install any
software. If there are PCs where you are going this could be a solution.

The keystrokes are 95% compatible with Jaws and a autorun.inf file can be
downloaded and put on your pen which will put NVDA as the first option of
a
autorun dialogue box. In other words pressing enter is normally all you
have

to do to start NVDA.

The latest generation iPod Touch with 16 or 32 GB now is accessible. It
can

not run JAWS, but comes with a screen reader called Voice Over. It has a
touch screen, but is fully accessible and has specific method and gestures
designed for the blind. It can run most Apps written for the iPhone,
except

those based on GPS or a camera, which this model does not have. It does
have wi-fi. It is about $300 US.

You might consider a net book, which is a smaller version of the
laptop. Price wise, assuming you already own JAWS, that's probably your
best option.

the
usual laptop features, but most also come with inbuilt Bluetooth.
Operating
Systems preinstalled are usually Windows XP, but some are now shipping
with
Windows 7 in favour of the new Microsoft OS. Netbooks usually have a not

powerful processor (Intel Atom) compared to an average laptop. Netbooks
however do have an extensive battery life. For example, on the one I will

Hi Yvonne that is not a hard drive! That is in fact an SD card built into
the unit! I do not know much about these except that it supposedly loads
faster as there ar no moving parts, so the added bonus is shock resistance.

I don't know much since I haven't got it yet. I have seen some in shops
though. The keys are quite like those on a laptop, but due to the smaller
size some keys are either missing or do something different. Like I say I
haven't got my own yet so can't obviously give you an accurate overview.
 As
far as I know there is no accessible palmtop equivalent. The netbook is
about as small and cheap a computer you can find on the market today. Hope
 this helps.

I am getting a netbook for Christmas. This is a miniature laptop and has
the
usual laptop features, but most also come with inbuilt Bluetooth.
 Operating
Systems preinstalled are usually Windows XP, but some are now shipping
 with
Windows 7 in favour of the new Microsoft OS. Netbooks usually have a not
 so
powerful processor (Intel Atom) compared to an average laptop. Netbooks
however do have an extensive battery life. For example, on the one I will
 be
getting it is expected to have up to 8.5 hours battery life (probably 7
 if

 I
am going to use speech full time). This is a much improved feature
 compared
to 2 or 3 hours on a laptop. Hope this all helps.

 hello members.
i go on holiday a few times a year and one of the hotels i stay at now
 has
 wi fi.
therefore i am looking for a portable device that has jaws or system
 access
to connect to the hotel's internet service.
i know a lap top is capable of doing this but they can be rather heavy to
carry while using a white cane.
so i am looking for something else.
a lap top will do if nothing else is available i would like an i pod but
 not
found any with talking software for menu's and field data entry such as
field for credit card details using online shopping.
is there such an i pod around that will suit my needs?
if not can someone recommend a portable machine that will serve the
 requirements.
i am looking to buy one so if someone has such an item they can email me
 offline.
failing that can anyone tell me where i may obtain this item?

it is essential that it has wi fi, and a screen reader jaws or system
 access.
but above all else it does need to have voice on menu structure.

 thank you

 Yvonne

The XP Home drivers should work fine with XP Pro. We also have a
 ThinkPad
 and it is wonderful.
