Re: [Blind-Computing] skipe

2011-05-30 Thread Brad Dunse'

How about we take this back a bit.

A. Do you have two sound cards or one? For instance a physical card
or integrated device along with an interface of some sort or USB
headset that can act as a sound card?

B. Can you record anything in another program using your microphone?
GoldWave, SoundForge, etc?

C. When you do the echo test call and press Jaws or PC cursor, does
it come through the test call? If so does it sound up close or
distant? Can you hear your voice at all doing this?

D. In Skype, going to the Tools then options menu, and arrowing
down to Audio settings what devices show up in the first combo box?

I'm running an XP machine and haven't poked around on a Win 7 or
virtual machine yet. You can try typing in Volume Control there to
see if it finds it. They might just call it Volume? I can't recall off hand.

Do you have a separate sound card just for Jaws? What system are you using?
XP? It sounds to me like you could possibly have your settings in Volume
Control set to What I hear and then have your microphone muted. I'd look
in your Skype settings as was mentioned to you before, if you are running a
seperate sound card for Jaws, it might be defaulting to it in Skype. If you
are running just the one card, check your Volume Control. If using XP do
this:

1. Windows key and press P until you hear All Programs and right arrow once.

2. Press A until you hear accessories and right arrrow once

3. Arrow down until you see Entertainment and right arrow again once

4. Down arrow to Volume Control and press enter.

5. When Volume Control opens press the ALT key and wait for the menu to
open and then press up arrow once to Properties and press enter

6. In there you'll find what sound cards you have. If more than one, find
the one your system uses for its sounds, playing CDs etc. Then tab once
until you see the setting choices for play back and record. Arrow to the
recording option and press enter. Tab until you hear it say What you
Hear, as you tab the next check box status you hear will be for it, if it
is checked you'll need to keep tabbing until you hear Microphone, then it'll
have some volume and balance percentages and maybe an advanced button and
again a check box. Make sure this is checked and see if that helps.

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know, registration is now open
for an awesome resource for classes on learning about
building/repairing/maintaning computers as well as others on networking
available on-line. And the good news is it is taught by and for blind
individuals. Students range from folks that just want to learn more about
computers to be more self sufficient and confident, to those wanting Cisco
certification or A+ certification. It is available for anyone throughout
the world,

There is info at the address below, but trust me it is more laid back and
less intimidating than it appears... good folks. I am in the midst of IT
Essentials and entered with little to know ggeek knowledge and learning a
lot. They also have what is called CaviCasts, which are couple hour demos
on various applications and etc. One recent demo was done by one of the
developers of NVDA who came in for QA and various walk throughs, another
was a demo by blind users of the incredibly affordable multi-track
recording software Reaper, other sessions were things like discussion of
backup methods and apps, use of effects in sound recordings, and a range
of topics. Its worth checking out.

Courses are very reasonable, I could have paid for them already for work I

Subject: [Blind-Computing] skipe

Hi,

I rarily use skipe so please excuse the stupid question.

I just made a skipe call and when I did, the person could hear my
jaws, pretty much everything I am typing but they cannot hear me when I

talk.

What is going on? If someone tells me to look at some settings, please
be very specific cuzz again, I hardly ever use skipe, so just spell it
out for me.

I am using skipe 5.1 .

Thanks.

He is sending audio using the wrong channel, that's why his mike can be
heard but not his voice.

Well the mic can't be muted because JAWS can be heard. If your test call
worked all right, I have no idea what's going on then.

Press alt T for tools, up arrow to options and look around and
explore all those settings. You'll learn a lot.

[Blind-Computing] Where did my music go?

2011-05-30 Thread mark
Hi
I ripped about 22 CD's to my hard drive. I looked where they were
supposed to be ripped to and found that while a few of them were there most
of them were not. What happened. Are they in some place that I don't know
about? I am using windows media player, windows 7, and the latest version of
JAWS.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

2011-05-30 Thread Jacob Kruger
Think windows media player, on windows 7 will generally try putting them in
the folder under your user data stuff called something like My Music FWIW.

Easiest way for me to get to it is to open start menu, tab over to user name
from search box, hit enter, and then hit M key like twice until it gets
highlighted.

If they're not there, then really not too sure where else they could have
ended up.

David:
I am using a headset.
I noticed last night the only way to not have the person hear my jfw is by
going to the jaws window, options, sound card settings sub menu and use the
independent duel headset option. However, when its set on windows default
option, when I am using skipe, I can hear them through the headset and the
skipe recipient can hear my jaws.

Well, your mike sounds like it's muted,

Are you using headphones?
Or, are you using the built in mike on laptop?
