Re: [Blind-Computing] keep losing my sound

2013-05-17 Thread marie

Thanks very much Dewayne for getting back to us with the solution.
I did call Freedom Scientific yesterday and they told me that no one
else had reported this particular problem, which we know is not the
truth in any way and as a result, I was not able to get any solution
that works.
It was recommended to me to try going into the msconfig settings and
seeing if anything is conflicting with JAWS, or to do a repair on JAWS
and see if that resolves the issue. Both things did not seem to make a
difference so hopefully the solution you provided will be the cure.

Thanks again. Marie

All things were correct on sound settings but nothing worked

Even tried downloading driver but no luck

A few of us have had this or are dealing with it now

Well didn't need a new soundcard

The fix for this is the pc wont update driver if it is an onboard soundcard

Must go to the manufactures website and put in the numbers off of ur
motherboaed and it will list all

Drivers needs for all the onboard devices.

This took about fifteen minutes and sound is perfect and staying on

Hope this helps

Re: [Blind-Computing] my documents not on pc

2013-05-17 Thread Scorpio
Hi Tom,

Navigate to the desktop with Windows key+M, and make sure that no icons are
selected. If an icon is selected, press control+spacebar to unselect it.

Once you've done this, press your applications key, or shift+F10, if your
keyboard doesn't have an applications key, arrow up to personalize and press
enter.

In the resulting window, tab to the option to Change Desktop Icons and press
enter.

In that resulting dialog box, go through the list, making sure to check the box
of the items you want to appear on the desktop.

I should note that while the My Documents folder does technically still exist,
it is encapsulated by the host User's Folder, and so you must check the option
to show User's Files, at which point an icon with the current user's name will
appear on the desktop, and My Documents will be inside that folder.

Once you finished checking the various boxes, tab to the checkbox that says,
Allow Themes to Change Desktop icons and check or uncheck it according to
your preference.

Once this is done, tab to the apply button, press the spacebar, then tab to the
ok button and again, press the spacebar to close out the dialog box.

At this point, unless you wish to make further changes to the desktop or
display, you can simply alt+F4 out of the original personalize window, or, like
I said, if you need to make more display changes, like the screen saver or
fonts, simply tab through the options, pressing enter on the option you wish to
adjust.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tom,

While this information applies to Windows Vista, it's applicable to all
versions of Internet Explorer thus far.

The following can be gleaned from the Microsoft Website detailing frequently
asked questions at the following link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-vista/internet-explorer-information-bar-frequently-asked-questions

This is what the information says:

Can I turn off the Information bar?

Yes, you can, but we don't recommend it. If you do want to turn it off, you
have to turn it off for each type of message.

To stop the information bar from blocking file and software downloads
1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button
Picture of the Start button
, and then clicking Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Security tab, and then click Custom level.

4. Do one or both of the following:

. To turn off the Information bar for ActiveX controls, scroll to the ActiveX
controls and plug-ins section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting
for ActiveX controls, click Enable.

. To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the Downloads
section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for file downloads,
click Enable.

5. Click OK, click Yes to confirm that you want to make the change, and then
click OK again.

Are you sure that you really want to do that? If you are sending it to
someone not using screen readers it is fine. Until I added a second sound
card any email or a web page that played music was immediately ignored.
Sometimes the music was louder than jaws and it was not worth the hassle of
trying to read and block out the music. Now some web sites, very few, when
the music starts the esc key will silence the music. With the two sound
cards the music is so low in the background that it does not interfere and
in the case of some instructional information I can quickly turn up the
speaker volume.

card any email or a web page that played music was immediately ignored.
