Thank you. Right now, it has a date which is quite old. I just had a problem and Windows7 would not boot up. It asked me about a restoration date. If my system failed me and I had to do a system restore, I would want a more current date installed in the computer than what it is today. This is the date I need to change, but I don't know where to find it to make this change and a Search Box turned up nothing to help me either. Re: [Blind-Computing] Unable to attach a file doc. to a message using alt n
Thank you very much Mujtaba. After spending most of my day and night, since I posted this message initially, I have solved the problem myself just by chance. The complexion of my program, Outlook 2010 has changed for some unknown reason. Now, if I start with alt n to enter. Then, down arrow once and enter on Attach File, I can then go to the tab, shift tab twice and I am right where I should be to locate the proper file in Documents and enter on it to finally attach it to the e-mail message. I can now do exactly the same thing, but take a different route to get to the end. To anybody who tried to figure this out in front of your own computer, thank you. -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mujtaba Merchant Sent: Sunday, May 26, 2013 9:57 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Unable to attach a file doc. to a message using alt n Hi Liuda, This is not a issue with JAWS. Re: [Blind-Computing] Line Spacing in Word 2010
Thanks to everyone for your help with my line spacing issue. Greatly appreciated. Have a good one! -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gaston Bedard Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2012 8:05 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Line Spacing in Word 2010 Hello Liuda, Here is something you can try. Hope it works out. Gaston How to Set Line Spacing in Word 2010 Changing the line spacing in a Word 2010 document inserts extra space between all lines of text in a paragraph. Because Word adds the space below each line of text in the paragraph, the last line in the paragraph will also have a little extra space after it. Setting line spacing You can easily change the line spacing in the current paragraph or all the paragraphs you've selected as a block: Click the Line Spacing command button. A menu listing common line-spacing commands appears. Choose a new line-spacing value from that list. The line spacing for the current paragraph or selected paragraphs changes. Word sets line spacing at 1.15 as its standard, or default. Supposedly, that extra .15 lines of text makes text more readable than using single spacing, or 1.0. In double spacing, or the line spacing value 2.0, one line of text appears with one blank line below it. Triple spacing, 3.0, makes one line of text appear with two blank lines below it. The keyboard shortcuts: Single-spaced lines: Press Ctrl+1. Double-spaced lines: Press Ctrl+2. 1-1/2-spaced lines: Press Ctrl+5. Use the 5 key on the typewriter area of the computer keyboard. Pressing Ctrl and the 5 key on the numeric keypad activates the Select All command. There's no such thing as having no line spacing. If you want to remove fancy line spacing, select some text and press Ctrl+1 for single spacing. Setting specific line spacing options To set the line spacing to a value other than the items shown in the Line Spacing button's menu, you summon the Paragraph dialog box. In the Spacing area of the dialog box, the Line Spacing drop-down list lets you set various line-spacing values: Single, 1.5, and Double, just like the Line Spacing command button menu. Additional options in the Line Spacing drop-down list require you to also use the At box. Values you set in the At box indicate line spacing: At least: The line spacing is set to the specified value, which Word treats as a minimum value. Word can disobey that value and add more space whenever necessary to make room for larger type, different fonts, or graphics on the same line of text. Exactly: Word uses the specified line spacing and doesn't adjust the spacing to accommodate for larger text or graphics. Multiple: This option allows you to enter line-spacing values other than those specified in the drop-down list. For example, to set the line spacing to 4, select Multiple from the Line Spacing drop-down list and type 4 in the At box. Click the OK button to confirm your settings and close the Paragraph dialog box. From: Brian Lee Hello Jerry, There are a couple things you can try if you have Microsoft Office. OneNote 2010 (and I think OneNote 2007) will copy text from a picture and place it on the Windows clipboard. 1. Select the JPG file in the folder list without opening the file. 2. Copy the file to the clipboard using CTRL+C. 3. Use Windows key with N to open OneNote. 4. Paste the clipboard contents by using CTRL+V. 5. Use up arrow until you hear machine generated alternative text and perhaps some of the text from the picture. 6. Use your application key or Shift+F10 to bring up the context menu. 7. Use down arrow key to the copy text from picture choice and press enter key. 8. Open Microsoft Word and paste the text using CTRL+V. 9. You can save the file in word 2010 as a word document or a PDF. If you have an earlier version of Microsoft Office, you can open the .JPG file in Paint and save it as a TIF file. You can then open the TIF file in the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program and use that program to extract the text and send it to Microsoft Word. Take care. Brian Lee brianl...@charter.net Original Message - From: Mike B. Hi All, I am trying to convert a document that I received in JPG format to text. Thanks much, take care. Mike From: Mike B. These are the steps I used to convert the JPG files into a Word doc Text file. 1. Highlight the Image JPG file. 2. Open the context menu. 3. Arrow down to, Open With, press enter. Or, just press the letter H, after opening the context menu. 4. Choose Openbook in the list of programs press enter or, tab to okay press the spacebar. Openbook will now read the file. 4. Now, save it using, save as, from the file menu in Openbook. Mike From: Gene I don't have a jpg image file to try this with but Openbook opens JPG files. This procedure will probably work. Use the open dialog, control o, to open the file. If conversion doesn't start automatically, I don't know if it's supposed to or not, then use the print command, control p, select Freedom Import printer and start printing. The image will be converted to a virtually printed document and the text will be recognized if it can be and, of course, if there is text in the image in the first place. Gene From: Steve You can highlight the file in OB7. Save your JPEG file to a known location. Open OB7. Control-O to the open files dialog. Tab to the files type list and select image files. You'll see JPEG there. Use the usual path finding procedure to tell OB7 where you have the JPEG file stored and then open it. Note: If you go into the keep exact view, you will preserve inasmuch as possible the original formatting and layout of the file. Steve From: Flor Lynch Mike, I might convert the file with paint to *.bmp, and then OCR it; or I might virtually print the .jpg (or .bmp) file with OpenBook's Freedom Import printer. Ultimately, you might have to print it on paper, if a reasonable to you level of accuracy in OCR can't be got any other way. Flor Take care. I have no idea where it is on the screen, since I cannot read the screen, but if you start at the desktop and tab past Start Button and Taskbar Button, the next Tab is the Notification Chevron button normally which I lack now and need to figure out how to replace it back there once again. [Blind-Computing] Restoring the Chevron Notification on the Tab and System Tray Icons
This worked perfectly and my Notification Chevron is back once again. Thank you so very much for the perfect directions. Now, however, as you might have guessed, my Systems Tray items are very wrong. They are: Network 6 Internet Access which I never use, Speakers 100%, and Fully Charged 100%. I definitely need my Antivirus there so I can tell quickly if it is enabled or disabled and JAWS might be good to live there as well. I also like having my Printer there so that I can fix things quickly when there are problems. *What other icons do you suggest are important, of value and helpful to be in the Systems Tray? Re: [Blind-Computing] Changing how item is read and located on the tab
Hello, No, when I press the Windows plus b, it sends me to System Tray safely remove hardware and then after pressing the applications key, there is no properties nor Customize icons option, but instead printer options, etc. I never get to Properties nor Notification Chevron because it no longer exists on the tab or arrows even. I never get to the Customize dialog anywhere. Somehow I must restore the Notification Chevron before anything normal can happen again. I did try exactly what you said though. [Blind-Computing] System Tray Question
When I press insert plus F11 I am at my System Tray. I hear fully charged 100% and solve PC issues, but nothing else. I assume that the fully charged refers to my battery in my laptop? Now when I go to the Desktop and tab down to Notification Chevron button and use the arrow keys, I hear all kinds of buttons there and one in particular that I wish was on the insert plus F11 System Tray location, my Antivirus enabled message. How can I get my Antivirus on the Insert F11 System Tray so I can just use the insert plus F11 to hear it and I also think JAWS 12 should be there as well. I guess I simply do not understand all of the buttons that are on the arrow keys and why they are there, since they are not in my Insert F11 System Tray and all should not be there either. I am using JAWS 12 and Windows 7 (x64) Pro/Ult/Ent. *Can someone please explain more about the System Tray to me and how I can get my Antivirus, JAWS at that Insert - F11 location and even perhaps my printer? Kimsan, I have to run what is sent, not save it. I use JAWS 12 and Windows 7. I was told that a link in an e-mail message will be sent to me. I am to run it right when it reaches me. Here is what I will suggest. From your email, you mentioned something about running or saving, so I will assume you will be receiving a file to download? Once the email is open, you may list your links using jaws key F 7, if using NVDA it's the same command or if you are using window eyes, do insert tab. Once the links are listed, use your arrow key and make sure you are focused on the link and proceed to press enter and the link will activate. If you are presented with a dialog, it might be the save as dialog asking if you would like to run or save the file. If this is the case press alt-s and you will save the file. After saving the file, the file may be found in the downloads folder so to find the file, activate the start menu, type in the word downloads in the search box and enter on the result and you will land in the downloads folder where you may find the file. Let us know how it goes. Take care. Hello, Gentlemen, I guarantee you that there is no way I went through all of the hoops and loops you have described here to do it the first time. I am not even sure I can do it as you describe, since it is so very complicated, doing all that one must do to accomplish this goal. If you or anybody else ever come up with a more doable way, please post it to the group, since I really don't think I can do as you suggest, unfortunately. There must be some easier way... There is probably a better way of doing it, but after placing the icon on the desktop I went into the properties and tabbed to, open file location. This put me on a file called, control.exe. Enter on that file name and it opens the control panel. I tabbed to, user accounts and family safety and pressed enter. Even though it landed on, user account, I had to tab until it said user account again. Then I press my application key and arrowed down to, create shortcut. After entering on that, it placed an icon on the desktop called, user account shortcut. Re: [Blind-Computing] Getting settings to stick in Word2010Documents
Hi, Cliff! I think I should be able to make 14 point my default for all documents like in a template and never have it change. This is what I need to do and not worry about it for every document. I will continue until I find a way to achieve this myself because if I forget once, then it is a disaster for my work. There must be some way that I can do this myself. A friend sent me the following directions: To change the default font settings, click the small box with an arrow in the right left corner of the Font section of the Home tab in the Ribbon. In the Font dialog box, choose the default font settings you want. Notice in the Font box it says +Body; this means that the font will be chosen by the document style you choose, and you are only selecting the default font style and size. So, if your style uses Calibri, then your font will be Calibri at the size and style you chose. If you'd prefer to choose a specific font to be the default, just select one from the drop-down box and this selection will override the font selection in your document style. Here we left all the default settings, except we selected 12 point font in the Latin text box (this is your standard body text; When you've made your selections, click the Set as Default button in the bottom left corner of the dialog. You will be asked to confirm that you want these settings to be made default. In Word 2010, you will be given the option to set these settings for this document only or for all documents. Click the bullet beside All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?, and then click Ok. Now, the trick is if JAWS will read everything that is required to do to reach my final destination. I do not know this yet. I will try it and practice and see what I can do, but it appears that this is the only way to accomplish what I am trying to do, Cliff. Thanks always for your ideas ... This may vary, of course, from machine to machine, and manufacture to manufacture. For example: Once your writing session is completed, and you've shut down, your font size will, or may be 12, the next time you start a new word document. The varriences go outward from that 12 point default. I'm sure you'll find the same situation, or close to it. Control+shift+period. Cliff Smales Hope this answers your question. - Original Message - From: Liuda Balcius balciu...@gmail.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, September 07, 2012 12:35 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Getting settings to stick in Word2010Documents Cliff, this sounds very good. I want my size to remain always at 14 for writing this manuscript, just like you have yours set at 12. Now, my question is, how did you permanently set the size of your type at 12 to begin with? Thanks ... Mine is Microsoft 2003. I hit that combination, adjust my font to size, and that setting remains for the duration of my writing session. When I'm through, the font returns to my usual size, 12 point. Hit that keystroke, arrow down, it goes in incriments of two, stop at the size you like, hit enter, and you're set to go. Hope this makes it clearer. Re: [Blind-Computing] Mission Accomplished - Template is Fixed to be the same on all Word 2010 Documents
Hello, LS, Here is exactly what had to be done in order for it to remain for all documents and all documents is the key phrase. To change the default font settings, click the small box with an arrow in the right left corner of the Font section of the Home tab in the Ribbon. I did this since I needed Times New Roman. Here we left all the default settings, except we selected 14 point font in the Latin text box. When you've made your selections, click the Set as Default button in the bottom left corner of the dialog. You will be asked to confirm that you want these settings to be made default. In Word 2010, you will be given the option to set these settings for this document only or for all documents. Click the bullet beside All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?, and then click Ok. This is exactly what I needed to have done in order to have Times New Roman, 14-point type for all documents I am writing and there are allot of them. Hope this helps and thanks very much again, Liuda. P.S. I got these directions from the Microsoft website incidentally. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Lauren Simmons Sent: Friday, September 07, 2012 2:41 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Mission Accomplished - Template is Fixed to bethe same on all Word 2010 Documents Hi, With the amount of effort put into helping you, why has it not crossed your mind to tell everyone else how you did it? [Blind-Computing] Getting settings to stick in Word 2010 Documents
I am writing a lengthy manuscript and must follow exact specifications. No matter what I try, I am having a problem getting settings to stick permanently. In a Word document, when I hit control d and go to the tab to check the settings, the font is always as I set it, Regular is always as I set it, but I cannot get the size of 14 to stick and it keeps reverting back to 10 usually. Is there something I can do to stop this from happening because it is a real pain in the neck to have to always double check every document I write and there are many of them involved, writing a book. The 1.5 line spacing and margins seem to be sticking okay, however. Any ideas would be tremendously appreciated.
