[cayugabirds-l] Weather for Ithaca CBC 2022

2021-12-31 Thread David Nicosia
All,

Here is my best estimate for weather conditions for the Ithaca CBC
tomorrow

Between 3 and 7 am (owling) there will be an area of rain showers
unfortunately that move through. they could last 2 hours or so.
Temperatures will be between 45F and 47F (7-8C). Winds will be from the
south around 5 mph.

Then between 7 am and Noon...there will be overcast skies with just a few
sprinkles/drizzle at times. It doesn't look like the steadier rains will
arriveyet. Temperatures range from 47F-50F (8-10C). Winds will be
from the south around 7 mph, quite light.

Then the early afternoon should continue with just a few light rain showers
or sprinkles, nothing of consequence. Temperatures will be in the low 50s
F (around 11C). winds from the southwest 6-7 mph.

Steady rain arrives between 3 pm and 4 pm and it rains until 9 pm or so,
then there will be some showers after this. Temperatures will drop to the
mid 40s F (7-8C) once the steadier rain arrives and then fall into the low
40s F (6 C) by late evening. Winds will shift to the north in the early
evening around 6 mph. There also likely will be fog forming in the evening.

Hope this helps. Good luck to all. I am looking forward to assisting this
year!

Best and Happy New Year to all!

Dave Nicosia

Re: [cayugabirds-l] waterfowl hunting season and the Ithaca CBC

2021-12-31 Thread Donna Lee Scott
2 days ago we had a sizable flock of Goldeneyes off Bill George rd. N Lansing.
I hope they moved south of Myers!

Not much chatter this year about our Christmas Bird Count tomorrow.

As I read the regs (https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/2.html), we are not
faced with a brand new opening of a duck-hunting season as we have experienced
in the last few years. But, the season has been open all through December and
ends on 2 January. A quick around-the-lake tour early this week found very few
waterfowl anywhere, except a large Canada Goose flock out in the middle of the
lake north of our area, as is usual for geese avoiding the hunting zones.

Let us hope for the big diver flock to remain at the south end of the lake,
but, honestly, I’m not hoping for a lot along the lake at the north end of the
circle.

Have a great day tomorrow!

[cayugabirds-l] count week Golden Eagle!

2021-12-31 Thread Kevin J. McGowan
Barbara Clise just put in an eBird list with photographs of an immature GOLDEN
EAGLE seen today along the southern portion of Scofield Road, well within the
Ithaca Christmas Bird Count circle! https://ebird.org/checklist/S99771454

We had the very first Golden Eagle on the count in 2007, and then another one
count week in 2013.

It would be great if we could find that bird tomorrow on the actual count, but
Golden Eagles can travel very long distances in a very short time, so I'm not
that hopeful.

I am very happy to have it confirmed for count week, though. Thank you Barbara!
