Walked on Black Diamond yesterday between Glenwood Heights and Garrett Road
.  Very birdy. Saw at least 4 Golden Crowned Kinglets with their crowns
blazing, along with many Chickadees, Titmice, some Robins, Downy, Hairy,
Red Bellied, Flickers, Cardinal, White Breasted and Red Breasted
Nuthatches.  Heard a White Throated Sparrow.

No definitely not. Very prominent white eye stripe. Stripy breast, reddish
patch near the wing.

collar, and very large, very dark on the back.

[cayugabirds-l] Roosting flock of Starlings

In downtown Ithaca, we have a very large, 100+, flock of Starlings that
have been roosting in a stand of bamboo in our yard each night for the last
few weeks.  I see them leave each morning around 8 am and around 5 pm they
swirl around the yard for about 10 minutes or so before they all swoop into
the stand.  It's really beautiful to watch.  None of them are hanging out
in the yard during the day at the feeders.  So fascinating,

Also if you are interested in exploring Native American sites, the Zuni
Pueblo is fascinating.  You can stay there.  We hired a Zuni guide to give
us a tour of the Pueblo and also an ancient Kiva site.  We did a whole trip
in the four corners area learning about the many indigenous cultures
there.  We have a blog we can share with you if you are interested .

more like an osprey than a juvenile bald eagle.

Wow, thank you all for advising me on the Brown Thrasher, which I believe
it really is.  The yellow eye and the wing bars are real clear indicators.
I will try to get another picture of it with a better view of the beak.

I saw an Eastern Towhee, my first, on the Black Diamond Trail this week
south of  the Gorge Road crossing, very busily flitting around us as we

[cayugabirds-l] hummer!

FOY Male Ruby Throated Hummingbird.  Crashed into my window, landed on the
deck and after a minute shook himself off and buzzed away. The day after I
put up my hummingbird feeders. Got a couple good photos of him while he was
collecting himself.

[cayugabirds-l] Red bellied woodpecker nest hole?

Yesterday I saw a red bellied woodpecker on a tree right across from
llenroc on Cornell Ave, very close to the curb on the cemetery side of the
road perched above what looked like it might be a nest hole.  It was
kwirring quite a bit.

This morning at the swan pen at stewart park perched on a partly submerged
tree limb I believe I saw an American Bittern.  Has anyone else seen one.
Also 3 huge belted kingfishers, one female perched on a limb in the water
for a good long while. So regal!

Hi,
Yesterday at stewart park in the pond west of fall creek across from the
boat house I saw a Northern Shoveler, common mergansers, two great blue
herons and a pair of wood ducks.  Immature bald eagle in tallest tree near
the first bridge.  50 cormorants out in the lake and yellow, yellow rumped,
palm warblers and a redstart in the brush near the swan pond.

around Hancock and Yates St. bridges this morning.  Downy woodpecker
excavating nesting cavity in tree near top of Cascadilla Park Road in dead
