[Chevelle-List] Block Decked- How can I tell how much?
Due to some recent discoveries, I may need to use an alternate block for my car. The original owner told me that the block had been decked at one point. Is there any way I can measure myself to find out how much it has been decked if at all? I read somewhere that sometimes the engine stamp on the pass side will be missing from the decking process, but is there a way to confirm on my own? Man am I knee-deep in it. Jim. Yo on theright track. If in fact the block has been decked, The Eng. code stamping will be partially or totally obliterated. This is not to say if you staping are full depth that it was not re-stamped ( unlikely) Also if you your heads are off, you can measure the piston to block hight, All you need is a GOOD straight edge and feeler gauges You measure the distance between the flat Quench area of the piston and the straight edge.( don't quote me on this) but Ii think stock BB run at .030 -.040 deck hight .. You can also know if you have a fully decked block when you install your intake. the bolt are FULL to the bottom of the holes. !! ( bottom 0 meaning ifyou look in the intake bolt hole the head hole is not Concentric but lowered .. Wayne ACES #1556 TCG #186 - Original Message - From: J.
