When loaded with #9 bird shot it's is very unlikely to leave the room or, in most rooms, ricochet. It will divide the attacker into two or, with luck, three separate portions, one of them gooey and splattered across the far wall. When loaded with buckshot for outdoor use, it's the match of any SMG. Alaskans who aren't hunting bear, but merely out for a walk in the woods, swear by the .12 gauge as the best bear insurance ever. Semi-auto models cycle quicker, but if a pump action jams you can unjam it in a single move. If a semi-auto jams you have to call a time out while you take it to a qualified gun smith. Few attackers, reptiles in particular, can be counted on to comply with the time out. Oh, I suppose you could show him the rule book or appeal to his sense of fair play, but as for me, I prefer the pump action any day. Trust Allah, but tether your camel. There are fears that with China's financial muscle may allow the missile to begin final flight testing soon meaning the threat could be in service on Russian and Chinese Jets by the year 2005 years ahead of the current Western programs. BAe Dynamics systems and Matra Dynamics are both working together on the 'Meteor' known for some time but now under threat of being 'out of date' from this new missile. Further development is hurrily being done to make sure out western fighters have the range and edge over the Enemy before they can launch this deadly new russian missile. Raytheon of the US is also developing a missile to counter the threat which uses a double pulse engine to keep its speed up. I will forward the photo of this marquee when the film is developed. which piqued my interest, inasmuch as word number 2424 in the New Testament lexicon is the word "Iesous" (Jesus). When he was in Seattle recently, my friend drove with a friend of his to this "Federal Detention Center." They parked in a spot marked for "visitors," went into the reception area and asked when tours were held. There are no parking spots marked for visitors, and I highly doubt they were able to just walk right up to the reception area. I parked on the street after seeing (and taking a photo) of the sign to the only two entrances of the parking lot that gave clear warning that all vehicles and people are subject to search. I then walked onto the parking lot and was immediately met by a guard who told me to put my hands in the air where he could see them. He then asked me if I had a camera and told me that I was only allowed to take pictures from the sidewalk along the main roads. I asked him about tours. He told me I could talk to the PR guy named Lawrence Tubbs Mon-Fri between 8:00AM-3:00pm. He was friendly, but said he was not allowed to answer any other questions. I'll follow up if possible with Mr. Tubbs next week. snip (about the alledged tour inside. I wasn't allowed in, so can't comment) My friend said that every one of the detention center personnel he saw was black and very large in stature. I saw the one guard who was shorter than me (I'm 6'0) and not all that large in stature. He was Asian. snip (more about the inside...can't comment) Outside the facility were parked five or six unmarked busses and several white semi trailers. Upon looking closer, my friend could see that behind the dark tinted windows of the bus were bars. He showed us photos of two of the buses. They were like brand new Greyhound Busses, minus any writing on the thick white line background running the length of the bus with a thin red line above it. I saw two greyhound-type busses that matched the description above. I wasn't allowed to get close enough to see in the windows, so I can't confirm bars. There were no semi trucks or trailers. There were a few white vans and small delivery-type trucks with the Department of Justice emblems. When they asked what a "Federal Detention Center" was for and how it differed from a State or Federal Prison, they were told that these centers were built under the direction of President Clinton for those who committed federal crimes which fit into three basic categories: (1) Gun Violations (2) Crimes crossing state borders (3) Crimes committed on Indian Reservations Apparently there are eight such structures in the U.S. My friend showed us a photo of another Detention Center under construction in Oklahoma. The above info doesn't seem to be correct in that these are no different in nature from other federal prisons. It is listed with a whole host of others found on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website. Is it advisable for one who is not an expert on economic and social issues to express views on the subject of socialism? I believe for a number of reasons that it is. Let us first consider the question from the point of view of scientific knowledge. It might appear that there are no essential methodological differences between astronomy and economics: scientists in both fields attempt to discover laws of general acceptability for a circumscribed group of phenomena in order to make the interconnection of these phenomena as clearly understandable as possible. But in reality such methodological differences do exist. The discovery of general laws in the field of economics is made difficult by the circumstance that observed economic phenomena are often affected by many factors which are very hard to evaluate separately. In addition, the experience which has accumulated since the beginning of the so-called civilized period of human history has--as is well known--been largely influenced and limited by causes which are by no means exclusively economic in nature. For example, most of the major states of history owed their existence to conquest. The conquering peoples established themselves, legally and economically, as the privileged class of the conquered country. They seized for themselves a monopoly of the land ownership and appointed a priesthood from among their own ranks. The priests, in control of education, made the class division of society into a permanent institution and created a system of values by which the people were thenceforth, to a large extent unconsciously, guided in their social behavior. But historic tradition is, so to speak, of yesterday; nowhere have we really overcome what Thorstein Veblen called "the predatory phase" of human development. The observable economic facts belong to that phase and even such laws as we can derive from them are not applicable to other phases. Since the real purpose of socialism is precisely to overcome and advance beyond the predatory phase of human development, economic science in its present state can throw little light on the socialist society of the future. Second, socialism is directed towards a social-ethical end. Science, however, cannot create ends and, even less, instill them in human beings; science, at most, can supply the means by which to attain certain ends. But the ends themselves are conceived by personalities with lofty ethical ideals and--if these ends are not stillborn, but vital and vigorous--are adopted and carried forward by those many human beings who, half unconsciously, determine the slow evolution of society. For these reasons, we should be on our guard not to overestimate science and scientific methods when it is a question of human problems; and we should not assume that experts are the only ones who have a right to express themselves on questions affecting the organization of society. Innumerable voices have been asserting for some time now that human society is passing through a crisis, that its stability has been gravely shattered. It is characteristic of such a situation that individuals feel indifferent or even hostile toward the group, small or large, to which they belong. In order to illustrate my meaning, let me record here a personal experience. I recently discussed with an intelligent and well-disposed man the threat of another war, which in my opinion would seriously endanger the existence of mankind, and I remarked that only a supra-national organization would offer protection from that danger. Thereupon my visitor, very calmly and coolly, said to me: "Why are you so deeply opposed to the disappearance of the human race?" I am sure that as little as a century ago no one would have so lightly made a statement of this kind. It is the statement of a man who has striven in vain to attain an equilibrium within himself and has more or less lost hope of succeeding. It is the expression of a painful solitude and isolation from which so many people are suffering in these days. What is the cause? Is there a way out? It is easy to raise such questions, but difficult to answer them with any degree of assurance. I must try, however, as best I can, although I am very conscious of the fact that our feelings and strivings are often contradictory and obscure and that they cannot be expressed in easy and simple formulas. Man is, at one and the same time, a solitary being and a social being. What makes conservative speech ugly is that it is very well thought out. Sometimes there is a glitch, like Starr's office taking too long to give Linda her immunity, but basically one can tell that every word and act is carefully planned for its effect on naive listeners. They do try hard. I remember thinking they might put the Clinton/Monica thing out in comic book form. They kept thinking that the reason the American public was not convulsing was because they didn't understand what was being said. Their opinion of the American public is obviously not high. Some would argue that since the election of Bill Clinton a monarchy is what we have already. None the less, for any Christian minister to utter such a statement demonstrates the height of ignorance. Christian ministers like John Leland and John Witherspoon would turn over in their graves if they could hear such nonsense. The cornerstone of the founding of this republic is the belief that Christians have no king but Jesus. It was commonly understood that mankind has only one Sovereign: his Creator. As such, all human governments are limited and submissive to the Creator. This concept is clearly articulated in the Declaration of Independence and codified in the US Constitution. To ascribe to any government of man the status of a Monarchy is to make a mockery of Christian doctrine and American history. The American republic is predicated upon the principle of limited government. The checks and balances enumerated in the Constitution are the Founders attempt to ensure the continuation of this principle within the United States. Under the supreme law of our country, the federal government is prevented from usurping the authority of the states. The executive branch could not circumvent the authority of the legislative branch. The judiciary was designed to be the weakest branch of all and the entire political system was charged with the responsibility of protecting the rights of the individual. Furthermore, American political institutions were strictly forbidden from meddling with church government. All of this presupposes limited human government and its ultimate accountability to God. If one accepts monarchial authority such an idea unravels like a spool of thread in a tornado. Then again, that is exactly what appears to be happening. Our constitutional republic, which is predicated on a Christian worldview, is fast unraveling. Unfortunately, the demise of our nation is being assisted by those who should be working hardest to resist it. Thanks to Ms Thielen's political savvy, Hawaii became the first state in the union to plant industrial hemp in 40 years. Undaunted by political naysayers, Ms Thielen pushed legislation for research cultivation through Hawaii's Legislature in May of 1999, and the bill was signed by Governor Cayetano in July. The purpose of the research is to develop high yielding sub-tropical seed varieties of hemp that will eventually be useful in the Southern U.S. as well as in the developing world. Ms Thielen then found a sponsor, Alterna's Professional Hair Care Products, to fund the research project and connected them with Dr. David West, one of the nation's foremost plant geneticists. Under Thielen's supervision, West managed the construction of the quarter-acre facility, which included the installation of barbed wire fences and security equipment. (Note: Hemp is a variety of the cannabis plant and since the Drug Enforcement Agency refuses to distinguish between industrial and medical cannabis, permits for hemp growing are the same as with marijuana.) Once the facility met DEA codes, Thielen went worked to receive state and federal permits to grow so that seeds could be planted in the 20th century. She was successful with two weeks to spare. On December 14, with hemp industry leaders in attendance, the seeds were planted and hemp history was made, thanks to the undying faith and perseverance of Ms Thielen. "As you read this, the hemp seed is germinating in the Hawaiian soil." Ms Thielen said in a press release on the day of the event. "We succeeded in the first step of bringing this plant back to its rightful place as one of America's valued agricultural crops!" Ms Thielen is a self-described pro-business Republican, but that hasn't stopped her from being involved in progressive issues. Although Ms Thielen has championed environmental causes before, the industrial hemp issue was introduced to her by her son, Peter Thielen, owner of Island Hemp Wear. The mother of four children, Ms Thielen has practiced Land Use and Environmental Law and has represented the group, Protect Kaho'olawe 'Ohana in its successful efforts to return the island to the people of Hawaii. Representative Thielen has served in the State House since 1990 and in 1992 she received the Common Cause Legislative Award. She currently serves as the Hawaii Legislature's Assistant Minority Floor Leader and serves on the Board of the North American Industrial Hemp Council. White House Blasts Kosovo Inquiry By JEROME SOCOLOVSKY .c The Associated Press THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - An internal Yugoslav tribunal report on NATO's bombing campaign in Kosovo is testing the limits of international justice - and Washington's patience. The report looks into allegations that the U.S.-dominated military alliance violated international treaties on the laws of war in its 78-day bombing campaign last spring, aimed at halting a Yugoslav offensive against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo. The allegations, presented to chief U.N. prosecutor Carla Del Ponte by a group of Western legal experts and Russian lawmakers, list cases in which scores of civilians were killed by NATO bombs. They include the strike against a bridge as a passenger train was crossing it, the bombing of a refugee convoy near Djakovica, and the targeting of the Serbian television building in Belgrade. ``We went to her in November and gave her three thick volumes of evidence of flagrant violations of international law against 68 leaders in the respective NATO countries,'' Michael Mandel, a law professor at Toronto's York University, said Monday. Mandel added that officials thought the NATO leaders were as guilty as Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, who has been indicted by the U.N. court for war crimes in Kosovo. Authorities say many ethnic Albanians were killed by Serb forces during Milosevic's 18-month crackdown against separatists in Kosovo. NATO's bombing campaign forced the Serb troops to withdraw this spring. The Yugoslav tribunal, set up in 1993 by the Security Council, has jurisdiction over any atrocity committed since the outbreak of hostilities in the Balkans in the early 1990s. Although the court cannot prosecute nations or international organizations, it can bring individuals before its judicial panels. Any action by the Yugoslav tribunal against NATO would be highly controversial, largely because of the crucial role the alliance has played in arresting Serb, Croat and Muslim suspects wanted by prosecutors for atrocities in the 1992-95 Bosnian war. NATO spokesman Lee McClenny, however, suggested that the alliance was not concerned. ``NATO personnel went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that we complied with the laws of war in carrying out the Kosovo campaign,'' McClenny said Monday from NATO headquarters in Belgium. ``I'm sure that any investigation will bear that assessment completely.'' White House spokesman Jim Fallin, however, issued a stern warning to the tribunal last week, calling the idea of investigating NATO's conduct ``completely unjustified.'' He said NATO was exempt from scrutiny because it ``fully followed the laws of armed conflict in training, targeting and operations'' and ``undertook extraordinary efforts to minimize collateral damage,'' meaning civilian deaths. The United States has long objected to having its troops or officers be accountable to anyone but their own military brass, a stance that has isolated the United States in its opposition to the creation of a permanent international war crimes tribunal. For her part, Del Ponte denied that a formal investigation of NATO was under way, though she acknowledged her staff had looked into the allegations after her spokesman revealed the existence of the report. But Del Ponte, a former Swiss prosecutor renowned for her crackdown on Swiss banks' laundering of foreign mob money, is coming under pressure to assert the tribunal's independence in the face of charges of bias from across the political and ethnic divides in the Balkans. ``She's in a tight spot,'' said Frits Kalshoven, a former head of the U.N. commission whose 1993 report on atrocities in Bosnia formed the foundation for the tribunal. ``It is very dangerous for her not to pay attention, to simply discard such requests because they come from the wrong side, politically speaking. China UFO Sightings Reported By CHARLES HUTZLER .c The Associated Press PUSALU VILLAGE, China (AP) - Poor farmers in Beijing's barren hills saw it: an object swathed in colored light arcing heavenward that some say must have been a UFO. They're not alone. People in 12 other Chinese cities reported possible UFO sightings last month. UFO researchers, meanwhile, were busy looking into claims of an alien abduction in Beijing. At the beginning of the new millennium, China is astir with sightings of otherworldly visitors. Such sightings are treated with unexpected seriousness in this country usually straightjacketed by its communist rulers. China has a bimonthly magazine - circulation 400,000 - devoted to UFO research. The conservative state-run media report UFO sightings. UFO buffs claim support from eminent scientists and liaisons with the secretive military, giving their work a scientific sheen of respectability. ``Some of these sightings are real, some are fake and with others its unclear,'' said Shen Shituan, a real rocket scientist, president of Beijing Aerospace University and honorary director of the China UFO Research Association. ``All these phenomena are worth researching.'' Research into UFOs will help spur new forms of high-speed travel, unlimited sources of energy and faster-growing crops, claims Sun Shili, president of the government-approved UFO Research Association (membership 50,000). A foreign trade expert and a Spanish translator for Mao Tse-tung, Sun saw a UFO nearly 30 years ago while at a labor camp for ideologically suspect officials. ``It was extremely bright and not very big,'' said Sun. ``At that time, I had no knowledge of UFOs. I thought it was a probe sent by the Soviet revisionists.'' For thousands of years, Chinese have looked to the skies for portents of change on Earth. While China is passing through its first millennium using the West's Gregorian calendar, the traditional lunar calendar is ushering in the Year of the Dragon, regarded as time of tumultuous change. ``All of that sort of millennial fear and trepidation fits in so nicely with Chinese cosmology - and also the Hollywood propaganda that everybody's been lapping up,'' said Geremie Barme, a Chinese culture watcher at Australia National University. In Pusalu, a patch of struggling corn and bean farms 30 miles from Beijing, villagers believe cosmic forces were at play on Dec. 11. As they tell it, an object the size of a person shimmering with golden light moved slowly up into the sky from the surrounding arid mountains. ``It was so beautiful, sort of yellow,'' villager Wang Cunqiao said. ``It was like someone flying up to heaven.'' What ``it'' was remains a topic of debate. Many villagers are fervent Buddhists. But local leaders want to play down any religious overtones, fearing that government censure may spoil plans to attract tourism to Pusalu. ``Some say it was caused by an earthquake. Some say it was a UFO. Some say it was a ray of Buddha. I'm telling everyone to call it an auspicious sign,'' said Chen Jianwen, village secretary for the officially atheistic Communist Party. State media ignored religious interpretations and labeled the celestial events in Pusalu, Beijing, Shanghai and 10 other Chinese cities in December as possible UFOs. But UFO researchers have largely dismissed the sightings as airplane trails catching the low sun. ``If the military didn't chase it, it's because they knew it wasn't a UFO. They were probably testing a new aircraft,'' said Chen Yanchun, a shipping company executive who helps manage the China UFO Research Resource Center. Operating from a dingy three-room flat in a Beijing apartment block, the Resource Center keeps a version of China's X-Files: 140 dictionary-sized boxes of fading newspaper clippings and eyewitness accounts of sightings. The collection has, among others items, accounts that the military scrambled planes in 1998 in an unsuccessful pursuit of a UFO. Chen said the center has had 500 reported UFO sightings in 1999, but after investigation confirmed cases will likely number 200 or so. He's currently checking on a worker's claims that aliens entered his Beijing home in early December and, with his wife and child present, spirited him 165 miles east and back in a few hours. ``The increase in flying saucer incidents is natural,'' said Chen, a former Aerospace Ministry researcher with a Ph.D. in aerodynamics. He cited more manmade aerospace activity and radio signals from Earth penetrating farther into space. Sun has another theory: He believes aliens may find China attractive for the same reason foreign investors and tourists do. ``It's very possible that relatively rapid development attracts investigations by flying saucers, and here in China we're becoming more developed,'' he said. ``Generally, well-developed areas like the United States have reported more sightings.''

The president's revolutionary rhetoric has not stopped the dollar from making deep inroads in Cuba's socialist society six years after Mr Castro took the momentous step of allowing its free circulation alongside the peso. Foreign analysts view the recent surge in dollar consumer spending as a sign that the Cuban economy has weathered the worst of the recession that followed the collapse of the Soviet bloc. "It's a booming business and the money is flowing to the government," said one European banker in Havana. Apart from a tiny private enterprise sector, the Cuban government has shrewdly kept retail commerce in state hands. Official estimates indicate that annual sales in dollars by state shops have doubled in six years, approaching and passing $1bn in the process. These dollar market sales will probably have surpassed the combined value of Cuba's sugar and nickel exports in 1999. Only tourism brought in higher gross revenues, at a little less than $2bn. The proportion of the 11m population with access to hard currency rose in 1999 to 62 per cent. For most this money comes from "del norte!" (from the north) - the US. Many have family or friends living in the US who regularly send hard currency cash remittances to the island. Cuba applies no checks or controls on the remittance income so it is impossible to calculate its real value. Some analysts have estimated the annual flow from the US alone at more than $800m. Dollars are also paid to those working in the foreign tourism or business sectors and are the currency for the self-employed or those renting homes. The difficulty arises in suggesting that God is going to emanate a platform for the GOP. And that difficulty is at the heart of the problem of God as a political philosopher in the context in which that question was posed during the debates. Since we are whiffing things, here is a whiff of God that suggests the dimensions in which he is taken. "What art thou then, my God? ... Most highest, most good, most potent, most omnipotent; most merciful, yet most just; most hidden, yet most present; most beautiful, yet most strong; stable, yet incomprehensible; unchangeable, yet all-changing; never new, never old; all-renewing, and bringing age upon the proud, and they know it not; seeking, yet having all things." In the face of such a God as that, one shrinks from pleading his support for a political agenda, though God's sanction was specifically and critically sought in the long program to abolish slavery, in England and here. In the absence of contradiction, it is correct to assume that Gov. Bush is sincere in citing God as the cause of that special heartbeat that changed his life. By Stan Goff Tolemaida is hot. The whole Sumapaz River Valley is hotter than hell. Steep, semi-arid, plenty of thorns and mosquitoes, it's the perfect place for the Lancero School, where the Colombian military runs its toughest course of training and assessment. About 70 miles south of Bogota, Tolemaida is also home of Colombian Special Forces, kind of like the Fort Bragg of Colombia. I'd been married for the second time for only 10 days on Oct. 22, 1992, when 7th Special Forces sent me there. Bill Clinton was campaigning for the presidency against George Bush, and I remember the Delta guys who were billeted alongside us shrieking and carrying on when the election results came through. "That faggot lovin' draft dodger! Shit!" Delta was there training a select group of Colombian soldiers for "close-quarter battle," which means fighting inside buildings during hostage situations and the like. We were training two battalions of Colombian Special Forces in night helicopter operations and counterinsurgency tactics. Of course, we were there helping the Colombian army to defend democracy against leftist guerrillas who were the foes of democracy. It mattered not that only a tiny fraction of the population had the means to recruit and promote candidates or that terror stalked the population. I'm not being cynical. I'm just awake now. It took a couple of decades. Growing up, I lived in a neighborhood where everyone worked in the same plant, McDonnell-Douglas, where F-4 Phantoms were built to provide close air support for the troops in Vietnam. My dad and mom both riveted, working on the center fuselage assembly. I just understood that it was my duty to fight the godless collectivist menace of communism. So, I joined the Army seven months after I squeaked through high school. In 1970, I volunteered for the airborne infantry and for Vietnam. In the years that followed, I found out that I didn't know communism from cobblestones. All I saw in Vietnam was a race war being conducted by an invading army, and very poor people were taking the brunt of it. I left the Army after my first hitch, but poverty coaxed me back in in 1977. Soon, I had stepped onto the slippery slope of a military career. But I didn't like garrison soldiering and I did like to travel. So, it was inevitable that I ended up in Special Operations, first with the Rangers, later with Special Forces. In 1980, I went to Panama. The fences there separated us from the Zonies -- the slum dwellers who lived in the Canal Zone. After that, I went to El Salvador, Guatemala and a host of other dirt-poor countries. Over and over, the fact that we as a nation seemed to take sides with the rich against the poor started to penetrate -- first my preconceptions, then my rationalizations, and finally, my consciousness. Now I am the Viet Cong. 1983: The former Special Forces guy posing as a political officer didn't even try to hide his real job at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala. "You with the political section?" I asked. I knew what he did. I was trying to be discreet. "I'm a fuckin' CIA agent," he responded. The CIA man had adopted me out of friendship for a mutual acquaintance, one of my work associates with whom he had served in Vietnam. The CIA man told me where to get the best steak, the best ceviche, the best music, the best martinis. He liked martinis. We stopped off one afternoon at the El Jaguar Bar in the lobby of the El Camino Hotel, a mile up Avenida de la Reforma from the U.S. Embassy. He drank eight martinis in the first hour. The CIA man began spontaneously relating how he had participated in the execution of a successful ambush "up north," two weeks earlier. "North" was in the Indian areas: Quiche and Peten, where government troops were waging a scorched-earth campaign against Mayans considered sympathetic to leftist guerrillas. He was elated. In the book of Revelation (Christ's Revealing), see 2:9 and 3:9, we have basically the same verse... except that one verse goes with the church of Smyrna, the other with the church of Philadelphia (Brotherly Love) 2:9 - ". . . I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not but are of the synagogue of Satan." And what it's talking about are those who masquerade around, disguised as JEWS ... practicing the religion, getting into various "high" positions and jobs by making claims to being Jewish and the "chosen race"... THESE false ones are the same ones who started these types of ugly rumors to generate sympathy, or better said, an ""over-rated sympathy"" for the Jews in general all the way up to this day. This particular clan of the so called Jews are the ones who make the real ones look bad. Yet it is these "false ones" who have brought this conspiracy upon the Jews. They want people to hate them and at the same time, they want people to sympathize with them, so they can get their ultimate goal of establishing the NWO or world dictatorship. They use the vehicle of calling themselves "Jews" as a disguise. THEN, they have a so-called ""REASON"" for what they are doing in secret. YEAR STARTS WITH SETBACK IN COURT In January, U.S. District Judge James Robertson denied NRA's request for a preliminary injunction to end the FBI's registration of gun buyers whose lawful purchases are subject to a National Instant Check System (NICS) check (National Rifle Association of America, Inc., et al. v. Janet Reno). Then, on July 7, Robertson dismissed the case entirely, completely ignoring one of the three primary arguments our lawsuit made challenging FBI's actions, and arbitrarily dismissing the others. This ruling was not unexpected, however, considering Robertson is a Clinton appointee. Stephen Halbrook, NRA's counsel in this case, filed a notice of appeal the following day, which remains pending. FEDERAL JUDGE RENDERS SIGNIFICANT RULING Some court news, however, was met with applause from the pro-Second Amendment community. In March, U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings granted a defendant's motion to dismiss an indictment against him on the grounds that the law violated both the Second and Fifth Amendments. Judge Cummings explored the historical context of the Second Amendment, its grammatical structure, judicial interpretations, and how it relates to society today, finding in all cases that it clearly protects an individual right to arms. NRA GRIEVED WITH NATION OVER COLUMBINE TRAGEDY The horrific events on April 20 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., left our great nation saddened and disturbed. The entire NRA family joined with our fellow Americans in offering thoughts and prayers to the victims and the community, and NRA scaled back its Annual Meetings, scheduled to run April 30-May 4 in Denver, to the two days necessary to comply with our bylaws and the corporation law under which we operate, to show our profound sympathy and respect for the families and communities in the Denver area in their time of great loss. Unfortunately, the Clinton-Gore Administration and members of the so-called "mainstream" media chose shamelessly to exploit the tragedy in order to further their agenda of assaulting the Second Amendment. RECKLESS LAWSUITS SUFFER REPEATED LOSSES In October, the City of Cincinnati experienced American justice at its finest when Judge Robert P. Ruehlman dismissed the city's reckless lawsuit against certain firearm manufacturers and one distributor "with prejudice," meaning the city cannot attempt to amend and refile the suit. The following week, Baltimore (Md.) Circuit Court Judge Evelyn Omega Cannon dismissed a lawsuit filed against two manufacturers and one Maryland gun store that sought to hold the defendants responsible for the accidental shooting of two boys, one of whom was killed. Judge Cannon rejected the plaintiffs' argument, stating that the manufacturers did not produce a product that was defective. December saw back-to-back dismissals of reckless lawsuits in Bridgeport, Conn., and Miami-Dade County, Fla. On Dec. 10, Judge Robert McWeeny of the Connecticut Superior Court dismissed Bridgeport's suit, followed on Dec. 13 by Circuit Judge Amy Dean's dismissal of the Miami-Dade County suit. "PROJECT EXILE" GRABS NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT "Project Exile," the cooperative effort that originated in Richmond, Va., calling for federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutors to work together to seek full prosecution of violent gun crimes under federal law, began to reshape the debate over controlling crime. The Senate held hearings on "Project Exile" in March, and in November, NRA President Charlton Heston testified before the House in support of this program, calling for federal funding to implement it nationwide. Congress eventually set aside approximately $7.25 million to extend "Project Exile" nationwide -- far short of the $50 million NRA has been calling for, but certainly a step in the right direction. -Caveat Lector- WHY 2K? by Mack White (NOTE: The following is pure speculation, and subject to change should new facts emerge.) We used to wonder what would happen with Y2K, and we always knew that the only way we would ever find out was to wait and see what happened. Well, now we know what happened with Y2K. Nothing. Nothing happened because Y2K was all a big hoax. That it was a hoax is supported by the fact that, even in Third World countries which did nothing to prepare for the "problem," Y2K Day passed like any other. We always knew the Y2K crisis was created, but we could never figure out exactly why. But, now that the entire scenario has finally played itself out, we can with greater confidence speculate why. Apparently, back in the early days of computers, this minor Y2K bug was discovered. Someone took note of the fact and realized it might come in useful later. So, in 1968, the National Bureau of Standards mandated the six-digit system for the computer industry. Time passed, and the world changed. Without the Cold War to justify billions of dollars of defense spending, other excuses were needed, such as terrorism. And Y2K. In the waning days of the 90s, Y2K was let out of the bag. Phony evidence was leaked which indicated there would be worldwide failures. Of course, the conspirators knew that any genuine problems could be easily headed off in time by spending billions of dollars on a solution, which was already in hand--"Y2K compliance" as it came to be known. At least $100 billion was spent this way. Someone made a lot of money off Y2K--and this doesn't count the profiteers selling everything from generators to beef jerky. Also, the White House got a $50 million UN-linked emergency command post out of the deal; many cities got similar command posts. These, of course, will not disappear now that Y2K has come and gone, but will be useful for whatever other "emergency" the Elites have up their sleeve in the future. The phony evidence and scare stories about Y2K were leaked mostly to the Patriot community. The movement's own paranoia was used against it to manipulate and ultimately discredit it. The perpetrators of this hoax knew of course that, after New Years Eve 1999, they would no longer have Y2K as an excuse for emergency preparations. So, in the weeks leading up to Y2K, they began to hype terrorism. We will surely hear more about terrorism in the days, weeks, months, etc. to come. The perpetrators also knew that Y2K would be very closely watched, and that, when it passed without event, there would be questions asked about all the money spent on this non-problem. For this reason, they didn't want Y2K to have the full attention of the media. So, even though anyone who can count knows it was not really the turn-of-the-millennium, big millennium celebrations were held all over the world to keep the tv cameras and talking heads busy for 24 hours and keep the attention off the fact that Bangkok toilets were not backing up after all. Also, after some high profile arrests of "terrorists" earlier in the month, the possibility of attacks on these silly "millennium" celebrations were used to enhance the fear of terrorism. The mayors of Seattle and Denver were likely shown phony evidence to convince them to cancel their New Years events. Also, as an added precaution against Y2K taking too much media attention, they decided to stage a major news story as a distraction. Remembering how much worldwide attention was caused when they killed John Lennon in 1980, they decided to program another obsessed Beatles fan to kill a Beatle. The attack on George Harrison may have had multiple purposes. It may be that Harrison had become troublesome to them in some way, as Lennon had. Or maybe they wanted to send a message to the creative and celebrity communities to put a lid on anti-Establishment criticism--the message being "You are not safe, no matter how security-conscious you are." It would also send a message to everyone else that the world is more dangerous than ever, thus we need more laws, police, jails, etc. A gun could not be used on Harrison because this murder could only occur in England, which has strict gun control laws. This would have run counter to their anti-gun propaganda. So they had to make do with a knife attack, which had a lower chance for success. After a horrible ten-minute struggle, the murder failed when Mrs. Harrison managed to knock out the "Manchurian Candidate" with a lamp. But it almost succeeded. Imagine the headlines, and their effect, if Harrison had been murdered on the eve of Y2K. It is possible, however, that there was an even darker motive behind Y2K. There is some reason to believe this hoax was, at bottom, a plan to get rid of Russia once and for all. This plan involved staging Y2K disruptions around the world, especially in Russia. There, not only would the power go out, but nuclear plants would melt down, and nuclear missiles

-Caveat Lector- hi, I had a thought about the last post which recommended a 45 magnum - hard hitting and does bears and tigers with one good effective stopper of a round. It sounds good, but it isn't really going to do. [imo] Looking at lessons from history we see the shapeshifters, faeries and elementals - ie. other worldly creatures fear of iron. anecdotal evidence of the philadelphia experiment tells us that some crew after they came back from wherever - touched a ships magnetic compass and burst into flame. Iron earths and dissipates the self contained reservoir of energies within these beings somewhat like a lightning conductor. Magnetised iron is going to be even more effective at that. Firstly - the reptiles have a control over matter which may be harmed more by magnetic iron grapeshot or shrapnel or a good styled round. Having magnetic iron amongst their unworldly constitution is probably going to do more lasting damage than a lead round. Secondly - these guys don't just growl like a bear - they use a form of psionic mind control - which could well ensure that their victim didn't get a second round off - so I would recommend coating the magnetic iron round/shrapnel in some hallucinogenic eg. lsd which I would hope - would interfere with their will power long enough for the defendent to reposition. Suddenly the obscure KGB agent who was supposed to be another face through the spinning door of President Boris Yeltsin's government is in good standing for the presidency. Though Russian polls are notoriously questionable, Putin has clearly stormed on to the Russian political scene from relative obscurity - challenging the West's common conclusion that he is nothing but another Kremlin pawn, devoid of either agenda or political future. The Western portrayal of Putin looks increasingly inaccurate. He is neither Yeltsin's pawn nor the man who can secure the upcoming Duma and presidential elections for the enfeebled president. Instead, Putin's real history is very different than has been portrayed to date. In place of an unremarkable career in the KGB, he in fact participated in the most important intelligence operations at the end of the Cold War. Throughout his career, Putin was an economic spy: tasked with helping to steal the West's technology and manage the flow of Western investment after the fall of the Berlin Wall. And now he arrives at the Kremlin - possibly the presidency - at a pivotal moment in the collapse of both Russian economics and politics. If Putin is oriented toward any Russian politician, it is Yevgeny Primakov, many of whose foreign and domestic policies Putin has carried forward. Putin has a clear cut agenda and allegiance that predates his arrival in the Kremlin and shapes his current foreign and domestic policies. Whether or not he prevails in next year's election, Putin is the man of the hour. In his background and agenda, are the outlines of post-Yeltsin Russia in the years to come. (back to top) The KGB Years Vladimir Valdimirovich Putin was born in Leningrad on October 7, 1952. He graduated from the Law Department of Leningrad State University (LGU) in 1975, embarking immediately on a career with the First Chief Directorate (foreign intelligence) of the KGB. Officially, Putin spent almost his entire career based in Dresden, monitoring East German political attitudes. Reserve Lt. Col. Putin then returned home to Leningrad, where he proceeded to build a respectable career in reformist politics. In short, Putin has reportedly been just enough of a KGB man to maintain a patina of toughness and incorruptibility, without being tainted by having harassed dissidents or spied on the West. End of official story. But there is much more to Putin than a 17-year career rut watching the Soviet Union's erstwhile allies slip away. Though scanty, the available evidence suggests that Putin was deeply involved in several of the KGB's highest priority operations through the 1980s and into the 1990s. He was an economic spy in and around the operations that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and that formed the chaotic nation that Russia is today. Indeed, it is not even clear that Putin spent all of his time in East Germany as his official biography claims. Germany's Schweriner Volkszeitung and De Zeit both report he did not arrive until 1984. The Moscow Times initially reported Putin spent about 15 years in Dresden; the newspaper has since noted that, after graduating KGB college, Putin worked for a time in personnel. The KGB's central office in Moscow handled "personnel," in the human resources management sense. If Putin spent his entire career in the First Chief Directorate, his "personnel" work referred to the recruitment of agents - perhaps in Leningrad, perhaps undercover in East Germany. Whenever he truly arrived in East Germany, Putin found himself on the front lines of the Cold War. East Germany was a prestigious post for a rising KBG officer. It was home to the KGB's largest residency in Eastern Europe. There, too, East German spy-master Marcus Wolf directed something of a finishing school for young intelligence officers. Some of the KGB's highest priority projects focused on East Germany in the 1980s - involving both confrontation with the West and a rear guard action of the communist ruling elite in the face of crumbling regimes. The one officially acknowledged feature of Putin's KGB career was monitoring East German attitudes and contacts with West Germans. Even this was no career backwater. The operation (code named LUCH) was of such importance that the section in the KGB base at Karlshorst responsible for the operation was elevated to a directorate, according to a recent account by KGB defector Vasili Mitrokhin. The handsome superspy--the man who had penetrated Syria's military establishment, sponged up its secrets and charmed the Syrian president--was hanging by a noose, dead, but the myth of Eli Cohen was just being born. Cohen became an overnight Israeli legend, his name emblazoned on street signs, parks and synagogues. With his fame a cause was born--bringing home Cohen's remains. For three deades, Israel and Nadia Cohen have pleaded with the Syrians to return Cohen's body, to no avail. Now, though, the issue has assumed more than symbolic importance. In the Israeli-Syrian peace talks that opened Monday in Shepherdstown, W. Va., Prime Minister Ehud Barak has said he is angling for the return of Cohen's body as a gesture to the Israeli public of Syria's desire to be a partner in peace. The diplomacy of gestures is critical in Israel. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat reshaped Israeli public opinion at a stroke--and alienated some of his own people--when he flew to Jerusalem and spoke before the Knesset, Israel's parliament, in 1977. Similarly, Jordan's King Hussein stunned Israelis in 1997 when he fell to his knees and asked the forgiveness of families of Israeli schoolgirls murdered by a Jordanian soldier. Analysts here say Syria, too, could have a dramatic effect on the Israeli public by handing over Cohen's remains. If anything, they say, the need today is even greater because Barak has promised that any peace deal will be submitted to Israeli public opinion in a referendum. And thus far, Israeli opinion is deeply divided about making peace with Damascus, particularly over the idea of giving back the Golan Heights, the wind-swept plateau Israel captured from the Syrians in the 1967 Middle East war. "So far, Syria has not made even one substantive gesture that has proven that there has been any appreciable change in its attitude toward Israel or that Syria circa 1999 is any different from Syria circa 1973 or 1967," the Israeli newspaper Haaretz wrote last month. "Such a gesture is needed not to win hearts, but to provide hard-nosed proof of Damascus's intentions." Barak has predicted his government will persuade Israelis to vote in favor of a peace deal with Syria, if he negotiates one. As described by Barak, the talks with Syria are the key to a broader regional peace, offering the promise of an orderly conclusion to Israel's war of attrition in southern Lebanon and a revival of the struggling Israeli economy. But at the moment, at least half the Israeli public opposes returning the Golan Heights, where 17,000 Israelis have settled. Golan residents have mounted a spirited campaign to persuade Israelis that the plateau is integral to Israel's security and that Syria cannot be trusted to control so valuable a piece of territory. Their cause has been helped by Syria's attitude in the negotiations. When Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Chaara refused to shake hands publicly with Barak in the opening round of negotiations in Washington last month, it was noticed by the Israeli public and dissected by Israeli media. Conversely, some Israeli officials have spoken of Barak's readiness to travel to Damascus and meet with Syrian President Hafez Assad should an invitation be extended. "No handshake means no warmth, and no warmth will be interpreted by many people, rightly or wrongly, as a sign that we should not be ready to trust them," one Israeli official said. That Syria has so far been reluctant to discuss the question of Cohen's remains is seen here as a measure of the damage he did as a secret agent. He resisted with all the strength he had left. They effectively threw him out. It seems the doctors were the decisive factor, after a consultation. They told him that any further effort would have been fatal. And, of course, he was assured of total immunity,'' he told La Stampa. Dyachenko had an official role as Yeltsin's image adviser, but Russian media say she played a far more influential role in advising him on policy. Berezovsky, one of Russia's business ``oligarchs'' and the financier of Yeltsin's 1996 re-election campaign, has said frequently that his influence on the Kremlin is overestimated. Yeltsin shocked the world Friday by announcing his early resignation. But though dogged by illness in recent years, he said he was not stepping down because of his health. Yeltsin's protege Putin, whom he immediately named as acting president, moved swiftly to sign a decree giving the outgoing Kremlin leader immunity from legal prosecution. ``Putin gave all the guarantees -- he's their man,'' said Gorbachev, long a bitter rival of Yeltsin. Bening, who is widely tipped to win an Oscar this year for her performance in the film American Beauty, said in an interview that Mrs Clinton was impressive at first but became less so as she tried to suck up to her. "I saw how politically deft she was, and I was not completely seduced by that," said the actress. "I have a lot of mixed feelings about what she's doing now [running for the Senate]. She always appears to be doing what's politically expedient in the most transparent way." She added of the Clintons as a couple: "You feel like there's prevaricating, there's lying. You just don't trust them." Her remarks reflect a widespread feeling in Hollywood that the Clintons have pumped members of the film industry for campaign contributions and leeched off their glamour but offered little in return. One consequence is that Vice-President Al Gore is finding it hard to raise funds there. Beatty, a long-standing Democrat supporter who flirted with a campaign for the White House last year, also told Vanity Fair magazine that he would not now be running. He said he was afraid he might damage the liberal causes he espoused. Once the Democratic Party's key link with Hollywood, Beatty was a supporter of John and Robert Kennedy and later a close adviser to Gary Hart, the Democratic presidential candidate whose 1988 campaign exploded when he was caught on a boat with a woman. Now Beatty feels estranged from his party and is rarely on the Clintons' dinner party lists. "Something happened to me, gradually, which made it no longer possible to avoid the truth," he said. His 1998 film Bulworth was a satire about a politician who suddenly decides to tell the truth during his campaign. "You can't really make jokes like that unless you're willing to have your invitation to the table rescinded," he said. "And I had become more and more willing to have that invitation rescinded." Discussing his dalliance with a run at the presidency, Beatty said: "I feel good about speaking up. In September, the state's Governor Mike Huckabee reduced Wilson's sentence, making her eligible for parole. Those who had been fighting for her release had hoped it would come by mid-October. Even when the state's post prison transfer board insisted on a final review of her case, it was still expected that Wilson would be home for Christmas. Appearing Monday night on Jane Chastain's K-Light Los Angeles radio show, Wilson told NewsMax.com that her freedom was delayed because state and local authorities had to handle her case carefully. "The Arkansas parole board is very laid back, very methodical, and they don't hurry anything and they wanted to see me one last final time," said the former federal witness. Wilson thanked Dr. Charles Chastain, a Arkansas criminal law professor and parole board member, for "going the extra mile with me" to help convince his colleagues to set Wilson free. She came close to freedom once before, when Arkansas' parole board recommended clemency in 1997. But Gov. Huckabee, a Republican, was running a law and order re-election campaign that made it difficult to turn even a political prisoner like Wilson loose. "If you look at the political climate in Arkansas, Republicans still have an uphill battle there. They're still trying to prove themselves." said the K-Light's Chastain. Griffith and Cole Cartledge responded officially by admitting that "Russian personnel were involved." According to the prepared U.S. Navy response, Russians were involved in obtaining the required "approvals to negotiate, engineer, and modify Russian equipment for use on U.S. Navy ranges as part of the Foreign Comparative Test program." "No Russian engineering support for the MA-31 follow-on procurement is currently anticipated," stated the Navy response. "U.S. Navy contacts with Russian nationals is very limited since all MA-31 procurement actions are with the McDonnell Douglas Corporation." Each Zvezda MA-31 missile reportedly cost the U.S. Navy almost a million dollars, nearly twice the price of an American-built competitor. However, Navy officials disputed that figure, providing cost information showing that, for a limited purchase of three units, each missile actually cost over $1.3 million. The price would fall to $721,000 each if the U.S. Navy elected to purchase 20 MA-31 missiles from Russia. The price of the Russian missile is also of great concern to Moscow Defense officials. There have been open allegations of illegal payments made to Russian generals through the Zvezda project. A January 1999 article published in Janes Defense noted that each MA-31 missile included a kickback to the Russian military of over a quarter of a million dollars. Navy officials noted that the Zvezda missile project is not being monitored for Russian corruption. "The prime contractor with McDonnell Douglas, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, does not include, and is not required to include any clauses specifically addressing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act," according to the Navy response. Perkins From Best of the West An anthology of Classic Writing from the American West, edited by Tony Hillerman, copyright 1991 The discovery of rune stones bearing inscriptions in early Scandinavian languages has long since cast doubt on the notion that Christopher Columbus was America's first tourist from Europe. Another inscribed stone, discovered in 1850 in the Rio Puerco Valley eighteen miles west of Los Lunas, New Mexico, makes the Norsemen, too, seem like latecomers. Long ago an inscription was chipped in a basalt outcrop in strange characters. Dixie L. Perkins, quoted here from her The Meaning of the New Mexico Mystery Stone, believes the inscription was the work of a Greek sailor about 500 B.C. who wrote: "I have come up to this point... to stay. The other one met with an untimely death a year ago... I remain a hair of rabbit. I, Zakyneros... out of reach of mortal man, am fleeing and am very much afraid... I become hollow or gaunt from hunger." [A] significant communication was carved upon the Los Lunas, New Mexico, "inscription rock" or "mystery stone." People were aware of the inscription when New Mexico became a territory in 1850, but no one could read it. However, one century later, Robert H. Pfeiffer of Harvard University, made the first known translation of the strange writing. He was considered to be an authority on the Old Testament; he concluded that the inscription was a copy of the Ten Commandments. He decided it was written in the Phoenician, the Moabite, and the Greek languages. To my knowledge, Professor Pfeiffer did not state, at the time, who he thought carved the message. However, his translation seemed to satisfy the curiosity of the people of that era. Indeed, it stood for many years as the final word. The stone is still referred to, occasionally, as the "Ten Commandments rock." Further speculation involved the origin or the author of the inscription. Some viewers conjectured a member of one of the lost tribes of Israel, spoken of in the Bible, wrote it. In 1936, an anthopologist from the University of New Mexico, Dr. Frank C. Hibben, saw the rock. He expressed the view that the writing could have been carved by the Mormons when they migrated westward In 1964, Robert H. LaFollette wrote an interesting translation of the inscription. As did Robert Pfeiffer in 1949, Mr. LaFollette determined some of the letters in the inscription were Phoenician. In addition, he concluded that other letters were in Hebrew, Cyrillic, and Etruscan. Thus, Robert LaFollette made the first attempt at a translation which would, in any way, challenge the established one of Robert Pfeiffer Zakyneros, the Greek, left the metropolitan Mediterranean area with its empires, armies and navies. Behind him were the seething cities and towns with attendant manufacturing, marketing and trading industries. He arrived in the vast, relatively empty region of central New Mexico in 500 B.C. Blue, spruce-covered mountains stood apart in green grasslands. Lean red and purple mesas stretched themselves for many miles. From the north the great Rio Grande twisted to receive a watery contribution from the lesser Rio Puerco. Except for scattered ancient Indian tribes engaged in hunting, farming, and food-gathering pursuits, Zakyneros existed alone At any rate, he carved his story into pink-gray basalt. Geologists identify basalt as an ingeous or lava-type rock. It varies in texture and in color, also, but the one Zakyneros wrote upon is very fine. The denseness of this particular rock made Zakyneros' self-assigned task more difficult. Possibly, he possessed bronze or iron tools. Archaeologists found several such European tools and weapons, too, in some of their digs in the United States. In whatever manner he did it, Zakyneros cut letters about .25 in. or .635 cm. deep into the basalt. The letters average 1.75 in. or 4.45 cm. high, and 1.5 in. or 3.81 cm. wide. The great depth of his letters indicates an ancient inscription. Despite some weathering, it has been preserved in excellent condition The size of the rock's writing surface measures 4.5 ft. or 1.37 m. wide, by 3.33 ft. or 1.02 m. high. The inscription rock is located on the lower right side of a large mound of lava. The lava mound lies in a little canyon. The canyon dents the base of a small, extinct volcanic mountain. THE COMPUTER WILL KNOW EVERYTHING Up to the German occupation, Denmark had close ties with Nazi Germany through Interpol and other channels, which we even used to exchange information with the Germans. So who is to say that our good friends today will also be our chums tomorrow? Why should we let foreign countries and their businesses and industries have access to our most vital national information? The information on which we base our democracy and our financial strength. Danish laws that prohibit the coordination of data records are based on sound principles. As are other laws which state that the political conviction, race, religion and sexuality of Danish citizens may not be registered. And still more laws which state that only persons who are suspected of a very serious crime may have their letters opened and conversations tapped by the spies of the state. We have learned from the past, and we are free to be whoever we are, and to do and believe in whatever we want to. As long as we do not go out and harm others on the basis of our beliefs. Therefore, as long as we obey the law, the state had better do the same. This means stay out of our homes, our cars and our computers until the day we break the law. They all agreed that Danish citizens communications are intercepted on a regular basis - but they also agreed that they would _not_ start any examinations of the interceptions. On a side note the Parliament agreed that strong free crypto is the only means of protection against these kinds of interception. You also need to separate the OT from the NT when talking about the Bible because as historians and archaeologists of all stripes make more discoveries in and around the Middle East, the veracity of the OT is going up, while the veracity of the NT is going down. That is kind of interesting considering that verifying the historicity of the original Bible should be more difficult since it's stories are ( traditionally ) 2000 years older. On the other hand, you would think that the stories in the New Testament would be much more easily verifiable considering that the stories occurred fairly recently, and within and beside other cultures' written histories such as Roman, Jewish, Copt, Arab, etc. etc. I'm not talking about the theological or supernatural content of both Bibles. I'm talking about things like finding places that ceased to exist since biblical times, or writings of other cultures which corroborate historical figures, or descriptions of natural events which left their marks in the earth. I don't envy religionists at this point in time. It could happen at any moment. Some discovery will be made which will put some people's favorite mythology to rest. I see this as a good thing. In the waning days of the 90s, Y2K was let out of the bag. Phony evidence was leaked which indicated there would be worldwide failures. No. Stupid people who do not understand computers (especially mainframes) and were too lazy to do adequate research, believed the hype a few con artists foisted on them regarding the 'doom and gloom' of Y2K problems, and immediately joined the army of Chicken Littles predicting the sky was going to fall... And now that the sky HASN'T fallen, these same idiots will now fall back on 'it was a deliberate hoax' rationale... Of course, the conspirators knew that any genuine problems could be easily headed off in time by spending billions of dollars on a solution, which was already in hand--"Y2K compliance" as it came to be known. At least $100 billion was spent this way. And while the time and money was being spent on remediating existing systems to make them Y2K-compliant, nothing was being done on new development. The phony evidence and scare stories about Y2K were leaked mostly to the Patriot community. The movement's own paranoia was used against it to manipulate and ultimately discredit it. Doh! They only have themselves to blame, for jumping on it without researching the facts adequately. The attack on George Harrison may have had multiple purposes. It may be that Harrison had become troublesome to them in some way, as Lennon had. Or maybe they wanted to send a message to the creative and celebrity communities to put a lid on anti-Establishment criticism--the message being "You are not safe, no matter how security-conscious you are." The message it sent me was that it's good to have a spouse who's an expert in martial arts and will help fight off and subdue one's potential assassin (as Mrs. Harrison is, and did)... After a horrible ten-minute struggle, the murder failed when Mrs. Harrison managed to knock out the "Manchurian Candidate" with a lamp. Actually, the version I heard is that the attacker hit Mrs. Harrison over the head with the lamp...she relied on her expertise in martial arts to defend her husband and herself, and finally knocked him out via martial arts... It is possible, however, that there was an even darker motive behind Y2K. Nothing more dark than simple stupidity and laziness (and corporate honchos looking out for the bottom line). Volume 12, #18 The Scientist September 14, 1998 From Placebo to Homeopathy: The Fear of the Irrational Author: Dimitri Viza Date: September 14, 1998 Today's biomedical science oscillates between rigorous approaches, with rational attitudes, and irrationality or incoherence. Thus, in the era of molecular biology, psychoanalysis thrives and represents a multimillion-dollar annual business, whereas other such "nonmaterialistic" disciplines as homeopathy, acupuncture, or hypnosis are a priori and uncritically rejected by hard science. Indeed, the temptation is to reject anything without a molecular explanation--better to deny a fact than get mixed up with a fluke. But if reason has partially freed us from medieval beliefs, it is now proving to be self-destructive (F. Schiller, Clinical Medicine, 19:81-6, 1984). For when facts are rejected as unreasonable in the name of reason, we are adopting the same superstitious approach to reality as people did in the Middle Ages. The placebo effect is a perfect illustration of scientific exorcism of a disturbing fact (W.A. Brown, Scientific American, Jan. 1998, pages 68-73). Although its existence has been established beyond doubt, all efforts are directed not toward studying its mechanisms, but to subtracting its interference. To satisfy statisticians and referees, constraints have become more stringent and ethics are bent--as are coherence and logic--so that one is justified in wondering whether randomized clinical trials, necessary for producing placebo-free data, are not "the worst kind of epidemiology," deliberately ignoring the individual patient's welfare in the name of science (B.G. Charlton, Nature Medicine, 1:1101-2, 1995). For when a physician knows that treatments are not equivalent, ethics require that the superior treatment be recommended. Only when equipoise is reached--a state of genuine uncertainty regarding the comparative therapeutic merits--can randomized clinical trials be acceptable. If, for a number of patients, an inert substance with nil toxicity produces the same beneficial results as a toxic pharmaceutical compound, logic would require that the phenomenon be thoroughly investigated for the patients' benefit, and for its potential to reduce medical costs. However, because of the implicit psychological mechanisms underlying the effect, placebo has maintained and reinforced its dubious reputation, thus impeding further research. Hence, the real placebo paradox, which illustrates the schizophrenic paranoia of today's medicine: since placebo equates in the minds of many to a psychosomatic, i.e., unreal illness, administering it is synonymous with medical deception and unscientific maneuvering, even if the patient's pathology improves. Modern medical logic would rather that treatments were inefficacious than incomprehensible. And yet, for economic, ethical, and purely scientific reasons (especially in an era when certain effects of the immaterial soul can be pinned down to a secretory activity of the brain), the placebo effect warrants further investigation, as does homeopathy, a controversial practice plagued by the same type of ostracism. In France, for instance, where homeopathic drugs are used by one-third of the population and paid for by national health insurance, their cost represents only 1 percent of that of conventional drugs. Whether observed clinical improvements are illusory or due to placebo effect, the results satisfy the vast majority of patients and physicians who use these compounds, even if it is shocking for well-thinking scientists to accept that high dilutions of chemicals can display activity, as the homeopathy theory claims. In an era when over-medication threatens the basis of health policies, the rationale for encouraging the fashion for innocuous, low-cost, and yet effective medicines is evident. Nonetheless, it would be more intellectually satisfying and morally acceptable to know whether a homeopathic prescription is handed out because of its placebo power or its direct effect on the biochemistry of the organism. Nobody seems to be interested in exploiting homeopathy as a placebo tool, or in funding bona fide research that should prove (or disprove) the underlying theory. Here, again, the attitudes of the proponents and opponents of the hypothesis evoke religious wars, irrationality, and intellectual dishonesty. Yet, several clinical studies suggest genuine effects (K. Linde et al., Lancet, 350:824-5, 1997). But the debate being a passionate

Harrison would very likely have been killed if his wife Olivia hadn't smashed a lamp on the attacker's head. Considering what happened to Harrison's former bandmate John Lennon on the streets of New York almost exactly 19 years before, and considering the Beatles' key, pivotal role in the mass social experimentation carried out by Britain's Tavistock Institute in conjunction with covert intelligence agencies like the CIA, NSA and Britain's MI5/MI6, we'd say there is a strong likelihood that Harrison, like Lennon, was NOT the victim of some random act of senseless violence. In fact, Lennon was murdered shortly after he gave an interview to Playboy magazine in which he blew the lid off the fact that the Beatles were part of massive experimentation in social control/engineering unleashed by Tavistock and intelligence agencies, as was the deliberate introduction of drugs like LSD into the burgeoning "counterculture" scene during the 1960s and 1970s. The Playboy interview was published not long after Lennon's death. We'd say it's a good possibility Harrison was targeted to be bumped off by some of the same forces responsible for rubbing out Lennon, using MK-Ultra/Manchurian Candidate-type mind-controlled assassin Mark David Chapman. Perhaps Harrison had likewise done something to incur the wrath of his former "programmers"; or perhaps it's just "company" procedure to terminate operatives of whatever designation at someone point in time, lest they somehow become an unnecessary security risk. Perhaps George Harrison had been designated as some sort of "sacrificial victim" by the demented, obsessed, criminally insane, ritualistically- oriente d "Illuminati" power brokers operating behind the scenes of so many events in the world. Perhaps there was some connection between this attempted "sacrifice" and the end of the 20th century/beginning of the new millennium (even though that REALLY begins next year!). The Beatles' movie "HELP!" kept coming to mind. A sacrifice to Kali, perhaps? Right off the bat, we wondered if perhaps the near-fatal assault on Harrison was linked to elements of the covert government, and there were some indications this may have been the case. Few pop bands had as much impact on the latter half of the 20th century than the Beatles. How ironic, then, that less than 48 hours before what was generally considered the end of this century Harrison was nearly killed in a rather ritualistic fashion--by a knife. The number "33", a very significant number in Masonry, seems to pop up with more than random frequency as having been a factor--somehow or other --in many events or incidents which have ritualistic, cult-like aspects. To name but one such recent event, there was a WEALTH of 33s which figured in the crash of Flight 990 (33x10). Sure enough, we find some 33s showing up in the Harrison stabbing incident. The attacker Michael Abram is 33 years old. And even more freaky, the attack was said to have occurred at THREE-THIRTY in the morning (London time). The DATE of the attack was 12.30.99. In numerology, the numbers of this date tally up to SIX, which is THREE plus THREE. Some similarities have emerged between the knife attack upon Harrison and the New York City street shooting of Harrison's ex-bandmate John Lennon in December 1980. As with Chapman, the mind-controlled assassin who killed John Lennon, the person who wielded a 7-inch knife against Harrison and his wife Olivia Wednesday night in their home near London, a Michael Abram, is shaping up as some kind of fanatical lunatic who had only fairly recently become "obsessed" with the Beatles, according to Abram's mother Lynda. She also said that her son "hates" the Beatles and believes them to "witches." What she describes about her son's "beliefs" regarding the Beatles sounds to us like Michael Abram was subjected to Manchurian Candidate/ MK-Ultra/Monarch/Montauk style belief-system conditioning; inculcated in the target subject by such means as drug- or EM/RF-assisted hypnotic trance induction or the like, as part of an overall mind control program . During what one White House aide called the "first-ever disco" at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the agent says he interrupted sex acts taking place in a White House bathroom off the Rose Garden. "I know it was New Year's Eve, and I know that everyone was celebrating and drinking, but I was completely shocked," said the agent late Sunday. "Three people were together having sex when I walked in on them." The agent says he immediately recognized one of the participants before he turned around and left the room. "I was embarrassed and did not know what to do under the circumstances," the agent revealed. "I did not file a report on the incident, I'd probably lose my job." The agent, who has been stationed at the White House for 5 years, did give the DRUDGE REPORT the name of the guest he recognized -- but the name is being held from publication at this time for privacy concerns. Sincerely, Neil Brick Propaganda Mind Control Please use caution while reading this article. It may be triggering. After seeing a variety of articles and letters on and off the web that I believed either knowingly or unknowingly used propaganda and/or mind control techniques, I thought it would be a good idea to print an article about this, so that survivors would be able to recognize these techniques and protect themselves against them or avoid them. Please note: I haven't listed all techniques below. Please refer to the articles listed following the article for additional techniques. Name Calling This can include being called negative names (used inappropriately) like liar, psychotic, paranoid, crazy, communist, etc. The purpose, intentional or unintentional, of the usage of these names is to discredit the person they are being used on, without discussing the facts of the debate or topic. Sometimes names are used to shock the listener, which may put the listener into a more susceptible mind state and not critically think about the topic but simply accept the negative name or opinion subliminally. Glittering Generalities Democracy, capitalism or other ideas are often discussed in these terms. These terms may be described positively without a critical analysis of all sides of the issue. The important thing is to look at the ideas behind the terms and analyze them critically. A group may also only discuss the positives of the organization, ignoring any negative criticism about the group. The important thing is to check out any group or organization as completely as possible before joining. But I believe it is also important to trust people when they are safe, so that we can recover by sharing and connecting. Exaggeration A user of propaganda may use terms like "many," "a lot," "numerous," or "a few" without backing up these numbers or statistics. The usage of these words may make a person or organization look better or worse without data or substantial proof. Emotional Manipulation Sometimes it is important to look at the argument(s) with as little emotion as possible, and try to see the facts only. From http://carmen.artsci. washington.edu/propaganda/fear.htm, "...there are four elements to a successful fear appeal: 1) a threat, 2) a specific recommendation about how the audience should behave, 3) audience perception that the recommendation will be effective in addressing the threat, and 4) audience perception that they are capable of performing the recommended behavior." Groups may also use these techniques on their members. They may say, "If you don't do this, then the world will end, we will close, etc." For members that are very needy or attached to the organization or person making the statement, this threat may be very difficult to ignore. In E-mail, this may be caused by the use of capital letters or other techniques. The writer may say things like, "apples are always red," and then, "apples are always blue," to cause confusion in the reader and make them more susceptible to the ideas in the E-mail. While the mind is trying to figure out which statement is true, the reader's mind may become more susceptible to the suggestion or idea. Sutphen in his article talks about "Shock and Confusion," how people go into a meditative state when scared and are more likely to be compliant to the second suggestion. If people are made to feel guilty that they were given something, they are more likely to follow the next command, like give money, etc. For survivors, I think the important thing is to realize when these techniques are being used on us. To fight the second suggestion and not follow it blindly. This may entail leaving the area immediately and going to a safe spot. Online this may mean reading certain E-mails with support people present. And to avoid those that may use these suggestions on us whenever possible. Learning how to develop safe support systems and safe resources can help with this. I believe it is dangerous to believe that we can't be MC'ed. Guilt may also be used as a technique, especially on survivors. Making people feel like they haven't done enough for a particular group or organization, asking people to do things without considering all sides of the issue or their own needs. Neediness can also be used. Survivors may be looking for approval, acceptance and a place to discuss their feelings. So they may not be able to critically decide what support systems may be the safest for them. Groups will first be very nice or overly nice to them (love bombing), but this will often disappear later and emotional manipulation and threats or guilt may be used to try to cause the desired behavior. Subliminal Commands The techniques used to create subliminal commands can vary. I believe they usually create a meditative state in the individual. I have heard

"Mr. President, the specter of heroin addiction is haunting nearly every community in the nation." With these urgent words, Senator Vance Hartke spoke up on March 2, 1971, in support of a resolution on drug control being considered in the U.S. Senate. Estimating that there are 500,000 heroin addicts in the U.S., he pointed out that nearly 20 percent of them are teen-agers. The concern of Hartke and others is not misplaced. Heroin has become the major killer of young people between eighteen and thirty-five, outpacing death from accidents, suicides, or cancer. It has also become a major cause of crime: to sustain their habits, addicts in the U.S. spend more than $15 million a day, half of it coming from the 55 percent of crime in the cities which they commit and the annual $2.5 billion worth of goods they steal. Once safely isolated as part of the destructive funkiness of the black ghetto, heroin has suddenly spread out into Middle America, becoming as much a part of suburbia as the Saturday barbecue. This has gained it the attention it otherwise never would have had. President Nixon himself says it is spreading with "pandemic virulence." People are becoming: aware that teen-agers are shooting up at lunchtime in schools and returning to classrooms to nod the day away. But what they don't knowand what no one is telling themis that neither the volcanic eruption of addiction in this country nor the crimes it causes would be possible without the age-old international trade in opium (from which heroin is derived), or that heroin addictionlike inflation, unemployment and most of the other chaotic forces in American society todayis directly related to the U.S. war in Indochina. The connection between war and opium in Asia is as old as empire itself. But the relationship has never been so symbiotic, so intricate in its networks, and so vast in its implications. Never before has the trail of tragedy been so clearly marked as in the present phase of U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia. For the international traffic in opium has expanded in lock step. with the expanding U.S. military presence there, just as heroin has stalked the same young people in U.S. high schools who will also be called on to fight that war. The ironies that have accompanied the war in Vietnam since its onset are more poignant than before. At the very moment that public officials are wringing their hands over the heroin problem, Washington's own Cold War crusade, replete with clandestine activities that would seem far-fetched even in a spy novel, continues to play a major role in a process that has already rerouted the opium traffic from the Middle East to Southeast Asia and is every day opening new channels for its shipment to the U.S. At the same time the government starts crash programs to rehabilitate drug users among its young people, the young soldiers it is sending to Vietnam are getting booked and dying of overdoses at the rate of one a day. While the President is declaring war on narcotics and on crime in the streets, be is widening the war in Laos, whose principal product is opium and which has now become the funnel for nearly half the world's supply of the narcotic, for which the U.S. is the chief consumer. There would have been a bloodthirsty logic behind the expansion of the war into Laos if the thrust bad been to seize supply centers of opium the Communists were hoarding up to spread like a deadly virus into the free world. But the Communists did not control the opium there: processing and distribution were already in the hands of the free world. Who are the principals of this new opium war? The ubiquitous CIA, whose role in getting the U.S. into Vietnam is well known but whose pivotal position in the opium trade is not; and a rogues' gallery of organizations and people-from an opium army subsidized by the Nationalist Chinese to such familiar names as Madame Nhu and Vice President Nguyen Cao Kywho are the creations of U.S. policy in t hat part of the world. The story of opium in Southeast Asia is a strange one at every turn. But the conclusion is known in advance: this war has come home againin a silky gray powder that goes from a syringe into America's mainline.
