Bichon Frise Dog Falls Victim to 'Road Rage'

Updated 12:10 PM ET March 3, 2000

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Reuters) - In what police call a bizarre incident of road
rage, an infuriated driver grabbed a lap dog from another car and hurled it
into oncoming traffic, killing the beloved family pet.

Sara McBurnett, owner of the 10-year-old Bichon Frise dog named "Leo",
said the attack occurred after a minor fender bender in heavy traffic near
the San Jose, Calif., airport.

"I just tapped his bumper," McBurnett told Thursday's San Jose Mercury
News.

The driver of the other car, a black sport utility vehicle with Virginia license
plates, stormed back and began berating McBurnett. When she opened
her window to respond, he reached in, grabbed the small white dog by the
collar, and threw it into three lanes of oncoming traffic.

"I'm not doing well," a sobbing McBurnett told the newspaper, relating the
Feb. 11 incident. "I keep seeing his little body going under the car. He
made a sound I've never heard before. My heart is broken. He was my
baby."

Police said they were pursuing the incident as a case of animal cruelty, and
a $5,000 reward has been offered for tips leading to arrest of the suspect,
described as a white man in his 20s with a slight build and a goatee.

But without license plate numbers or any other identifying information,
police said they needed a lucky break.

"I have to be honest. We don't have a lot to go on here," San Jose Police
Sgt Derek Edwards said.

[CTRL] Fw: Who would Build a church on the Sabbath?

2000-03-04 Thread ali andrew

Peace and Blessings
Alan,

NO! I am NOT happy. I am broken hearted at this
crime against God and the Martyrs. I will lift up a loud CRY. For I am the
Watchman

Isa.58[1] Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a
trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their
sins.

The Sabbath is spoken of 197 times in the Holy
Bible. The people that were killed at New Jerusalem (Mt.Carmel). by the forces
of Babylon kept that Sabbath, they love not their live even unto death. They
honored the Words of Lord of the worlds.

Who would build this church on the ground that ran
red with the blood of men, woman and children for the word of God? The only ones
that could do such a sinful act before the eyes of the people of the world and
God are those that have forgotten the Book.

Exod.20

[8] Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
There is no excuse for this for this action. For
the past three years I have lived at New Jerusalem where the land has been
desolate accept for my care. For seven years it has been a waist land. Now that
the Beast has decided to make a show. He puts his tabernacle where David's was
and calls the foolish to honor it. It is an Abomination that will, according to
the Word of the Lord in the Seventy Week prophesy, be totally
destroyed.

Da
11:31
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the
daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that
maketh desolate.

Da
12:11
And from the time that the daily sacrifice
shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set
up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

David taught that he was the Daily. We know thatb means a sacrfice. He
was working to open the Sixth Seal. So naturally after the taking away of the
Daily there is to be Seventy Weeks just before the reserection in Daneil
12.

Da
12:1

And at that
time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the
children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such
as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at
that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be
found written in the book.

According to the teachings for which these people gave their lives we are
about to experience the terror of the Reserection.

[12] And I beheld when he had
opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became
black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;[13] And the
stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely
figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.[14] And the heaven
departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island
were moved out of their places.[15] And the kings of the earth, and
the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and
every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks
of the mountains;[16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on
us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the
wrath of the Lamb:[17] For the great day of his wrath is come; and
who shall be able to stand?

[CTRL] Finishing Off the FAKE Branch Davidians

Dear Folks,

There has been a great deal of misinformation about Waco and New
Jerusalem where 82 human beings were hacked to death before the
fire by the Bill Clinton murderers of the Children of Waco. The media
which is Zionist controlled, is more guilty than the pigs that did the
slaughtering, because they continue to murder the minds of the people. The
article bellow is an example of this psychopathic component of our society. This
is our National shame! If we do nothing about these children of
darkness they will be our damnation.

I am the Watchman for the Martyrs. I am sounding an ALARM.
The new church is an Abomination because the
foundation was laid on the Sabbath. For sounding
this alarm I have been attacked and slandered, even thrown in jail. I will not
be silent! I will declare this truth even in my death and when I stand before my
Lord I will declare the truth continually.

The FAKE Davidians that are occupying New
Jerusalem (Mt.Carmel) will not tell you the truth of what David taught.

1.Christ returns to Waco

2.There will be an Earth quake here soon, followed by a great flood.

3. The Seventy Week Prophesy is to be fulfilled at this time.

4. Koresh comes from Iran to destroy this government and set up the
Kingdom of God.

Why don't they warn the people? It is simple these are the people that
Murdered 82 human beings to keep you from hearing this truth.

The writer below Sharleen A.K.A. Janice A.K.A. Clinton Mouth Piece,
is an example of the ZOG agents of the Bill Clinton Murders of the Children of

souls. Their only problem is that we are not all sleeping and will fight them

the church, so the standoff would end), saying, We're volunteering our

they contact Mt. Carmel survivors 6 years later to offer help of

Finishing Off the Branch

by Judith Vinson There is any number of
ways to kill people. They can be shot, burned
alive, gassed or otherwise condemned to some kind
of hell. If the observation that hell is the
loss of hope, then the surviving Branch
Davidians are destined for Hell. Apparently,
for some, their departure will not be soon
enough. Six months ago, there were about a
hundred Americans from all over this country
who decided to rebuild a modest church for the
twenty surviving Branch Davidians. For the most part
those survivors are elderly. Two are in there
eighties. Some have been badly burned, with
hands scarred into almost useless claws, or
minus all their fingers, as in the case of one
young girl who was 16 at the time. They have
no families now, some no homes, and most are
unemployable due to age or disabilities. When
asked how they might be helped, they said they
only hoped one day to have a little church in which
to worship. It seemed a reasonable request
considering this was
America. A bank account was set up at Bank
of America in Waco, Texas, with the name,
Rebuildthechurch.com. At the time, the bank's
name seemed more than appropriate. Rebuildthechurch.com
was also the name of a web page where donors
around the country might be shown pictures
that have been put up every week showing the
progress on the church. For six months now,
donations have been received through that
account. So far, the total from all
sources has been $76,859.00. All spent
on materials. Heroic volunteers who have given
their Sundays for the last twenty-four weeks
have donated the labor. One American hitch
hiked all the way from West Virginia to donate
a week of labor. Two weeks ago, the
donations stopped when

Tide vs. Cheer – P G Wins Either Way

Did you ever notice how Tide ads really push Tide for washing your
clothes with the best detergent possible. And Cheer ads do the same. But
both are Proctor Gamble detergents. Whichever you choose, P G wins.
Did you further know that P G would pit its Cincinnati offices against
its St. Louis offices --- and if the Cincinnati plant could figure out
how to get boxes of Tide into St. Louis supermarkets cheaper than the
St. Louis plant – so be it!

This is much like the Bush vs. McCain contest unraveling before our
eyes. I don’t know who’s more contemptible, the candidates, or the
yucky-puke News anchors and analysts who are forced to feign
“excitement” over the dullards -- if they want to keep their jobs.

Like Proctor and Gamble, the Ruling Elite really pits the McCains
against the Bushes — and it’s a real fight for the privilege of being
“head empty suit.”. But whether the Bush Cheer or the McCain Tide
prevails – the Ruling Elite wins either way.

The other night I was watching Bush legitimately cry “foul” about the
absurd GOP primary rules allowing Dems to participate -- and the McCain
phone tactics, condemning W. Bush for going to Bob Jones U. – when
McCain’s own campaign spokesman, Cong. Lindsay Graham of “impeach
Clinton” fame – had accepted an award from Bob Jones U. last year!

I found myself sympathizing with Bush and saying to myself, “In this
he’s right on target.” Of course, I was never tempted to believe that
Bush was anything but a New World Order candidate. Such is not the case
with most Americans, thanks to our deplorable news media.

The hyping of the sorry McCain-Bush fight may be intended simply to make
the mass of not-yet-awakened Republicans feel an affinity for W. Bush.
Remember, Bush or McCain, the Ruling Elite wins either way.

I know we’ve floated the other theory, that the McCain may be carried to
the nomination early as a gambit to fool the Reform Party into endorsing
him also, in order to stop Buchanan.

And we’ve even floated a third theory: that the McCain – Bush hair
pulling match may be stretched out to August, in order to generate
controversy that far out for the purpose of justifying the continued
blocking out of news coverage for Buchanan (Reform), Phillips
(Constitution), Nader (Green), and Browne (Libertarian) – in that order.
If this scenario develops, then this would be the first year we had a
contested convention since 1976 when Ford and Reagan were jostling for
votes at the convention itself. (This scenario would in all likelihood
preclude a McCain run at the Reform nomination, since the GOP convention
is after the Reform Convention, I believe.)

There is evidence on the table that any one of these scenarios could
develop, and we list them all in the hopes of raising the awareness of
readers. But I do not claim to have any “line to heaven” on the future.
All I know is that the Ruling Elite of the Permanent Revolution plays a
sophisticated game of long term chess --- not a puerile game of
checkers, as in Elephants vs. donkeys.

In my judgement, Bush has an excellent “on camera” persona. He has that
symmetry of features that makes the camera “like” some people, and
dislike others. He has an all-American feel that will appeal to the
casual observers in middle America, and those who don’t feel confident
to make up their own mind on matters political. (This is not a
criticism. I, for instance, don’t feel competent to make up my own mind
on how to diagnose problems with my car engine.)

And McCain has a legitimate war record, even if he made mistakes, even
serious mistakes, in captivity. Gore is just gross. Bradley has turned
out to be an also ran, to fool the Dems into thinking they’ve had a
contest. My point? The Ruling elite is focused on conning the American
people, especially the more alert “conservative” faction of the
population, for another 10 months. They just have to run out the clock
past another Presidential election and get good Americans fighting each
other – and they have another four years to run for the goal post of
world government.

The still-brainwashed, those who haven’t woken up to the 5 Big TV
network scam, are to be made to fight the alert, -- that’s us. And all
of you who see through the Big TV and computerized vote scam – you can
probably attest to the truth of that Biblical aphorism: “Knowledge
increaseth sorrow.”

[CTRL] OT: Atmospheric oxygen concentration dropping ?

2000-03-04 Thread Bill Kingsbury

-Caveat Lector- A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/"
/A -Cui Bono?-

 Hi,

Maybe I've missed it, but I've seen no discussion, and
lots of allegations, regarding a basic scientific issue:

There is a rumor (or urban legend) to the effect that in
recent centuries and decades, the Earth's atmospheric oxygen
concentration has rapidly dropped from the 32-40% range, down
to around 19-21% -- and then more recently (especially in big
cities, it is alleged) to only 16-17%, or to even as low as
11-12% (depending upon who is retelling this slippery story).

Now, is this entirely a matter of environmentalist doomsday
"theology" -- perhaps driven by commercially or politically
motivated propaganda ? Did someone "channel" this information,
or is there scientific evidence to support some part of this ?

(And if there is some amount of truth to this, where did the
"missing" oxygen disappear to -- and what is taking its place,
in the 100% of "something" making up what we're breathing ?)

No, I'm not worried -- just a little concerned that no one
(apparently) has seen fit to educate the media-led masses of
people who are left to possibly believe (based on these rumors)
that they and their kids can't be "really healthy, anymore,"
simply because "the oxygen is rapidly disappearing."

Someone recently told me -- in dead earnest -- that "Ed McCabe
told me" (when, I didn't ask) that these stories were factual.

I did a search on "urban legend" and "oxygen" -- using
www.alltheweb.com -- and was startled to find that (apparently)
no one has written about this seeming life-or-death issue.

Has anyone seen any logical, science-based discussions
specifically confirming or disproving these persistent rumors ?

How long have these stories been circulating ?

 Bill

Please define "believers"... that is a wide-open category. Everyone
believes in something. You must believe in gravity, and believe in it
blindly... because it can only be understood in theory. It cannot be
physically examined, but it certainly can be experienced, and I'm sure you
"believe" in it's reality and its effects. :)

Don't knock it, 'til you try it, honey...
For example, If you want to believe that the moon is made of green
cheese... and is served best with ranch dressing, and if you also believe
you've tasted it and experienced it... and you think it's the greatest
thing since sliced bread, it would be impossible to talk logic with you
either.

People who believe the Bible was written by God, and those whom you call
impossible to talk logic, more than likely have had a life changing
experience that has convinced them that the Bible is true.

There is no brainwashing or mind control. It's called FAITH. A very
healthy human attribute.

Sounds to me that you've just found something in life and the social culture
to disagree with and you just want to thump the thumpers. (I actually
don't blame you to some degree)... But, If you haven't experienced it,
you cannot logically judge someone who claims to have experienced it. One
cancels the other.

No I didn't consider that. But aside from snakes, think about this - Horus
from Egypt (was prophesized to be great, born of a virgin on Dec. 25,
taught
in a temple at the age of 12, had 12 deciples, was slain on a cross
between
2 thieves, often represented with a triangle...), Quentalocatl of Mexico
(was prophesized to be great, born of a virgin, was tempted and fasted for
40 days, was slain in atonement for primal sin, often represented as the
trinity and signified by 3 crosses, his second coming is confidently
expected...) and the list goes on to Beddru from Japan and like I said
before, there are dozens of characters through out time that share
strikingly similar qualities. So what happened in Ancient Sumer that
spawned
this global myth of a hero? And why is Christianity so widely believed to
be true (in this country)? There's your conspiracy my friend: highly
educated people, grown adults in the year 2000 believe with all their
heart
that the miracles and impossibilities in the bible actually could have
happened. Most would rather burn in hell for eternity rather than say that
they don't believe. I don't care if these prescientific minds believed
thunder was a god and snakes can sneak up and bite you, sometimes causing
death...maybe that's why they are "evil". But in the information age there
are 100,000 new Christians each day. What's the deal? These are
"believers"
that blindly believe that the bible was written by God and it is 100% true
from cover to cover. Talking logic to these people is impossible.

Mind control? Brainwashing? You tell me, because I still believe in
Santa...

 andy

Blue Honey, have you considered the geographical proximity of the
religions
you cite which regard the snake as evil, and that these seemingly
disparate
religions are in fact variations on a much older theme from a single
source
within the same area which is Ancient Sumer...

sleazeball,’ said Patricia Johnson of North Falmouth, Mass., whose husband

Bush Owes McCain a Big One

“These days, Gov. George W. Bush shows roughly the same affection for Senator
John McCain as he might for a particularly large and repulsive cockroach. But
if Mr. Bush becomes president in January, he might want to use his White

divisiveness that the Arizona senator has injected into the Republican
primaries, and despite some harm that he may have done to Mr. Bush's

respect: he has made him a far better campaigner.”

Anti-Gunners Dancing In Fresh Blood

Neal Knox Update - Predictably, anti-gun politicians from Bill
Clinton on down, have seized on the Michigan school
shooting and yesterday's racist killings at two Pennsylvania
fast- food restaurants to demand passage of their current gun
control proposals.

Also predictably, Sens. Schumer, Durbin and Lautenberg
hastily called a press conference to promote their "Child
Access Prevention" law, which includes Federal standards for
the kind of gun vault we're to have.

Not one of the proposals -- even the Washington Post's
demand to prohibit all handgun sales -- could have prevented
either of those tragedies.

No guns or technologies exist to have guaranteed that 6-
year-old couldn't have pulled the trigger, and it's ludicrous to
contend that the crackhead who left that stolen .32 where it
could be found would have kept a trigger lock on it.

Nor would that kind of brain-fried druggie been concerned
about civil or criminal liability for letting the boy get his stolen
gun. Michigan already has such a law.

Nor would a "gun-free schools" law -- the adult version of
running around a school yard shouting "King's X" -- have
made any difference. Michigan has one of those laws, too.

But logic, reason, and the existence of laws up to and
including prohibiting murder don't matter. The only time the
anti-gun crowd can make any progress is when they're
dancing in the blood of fresh victims.

And they're dancing.

Editor: Source FBI Uniform Crime statistics. The true figure
for deaths of kids under 15 is under 900 and has been
dropping for years. The last year we have statistics for is 98

Michigan has handgun licensing and registration and this did
nothing to prevent the murder.

The school shooting this week was done with a stolen gun
taken from a crack house, which was full of stolen guns.
According to the Associated Press, the 6 year old murderer
lived in a "flophouse" and used a stolen handgun he found in
a bedroom there, a prosecutor said today. Genesee County
Prosecutor Arthur Busch said the home was frequented by
strangers. "This boy comes from a very troubled home,"
Busch said on NBC's "Today" show. "He is really a victim of a
drug culture and a house that's really in chaos."

He got in fights, according to some, where his reactions were
considered "extreme" by fellow students, parents, and
teachers alike. And yet he was permitted to hang his coat
alongside those of children who pick up their toys and play
nice with others. He was allowed to enter into a place of
learning with thoughts of murder (and don't for a moment
think that kid didn't have a good sense of criminal intent: he
hid the gun and then lied about giving it to another student,
whom he claimed did the shooting).

In October 1999, a 14-year-old Houston boy was charged

Dear Lyn:
Tavistock was started in 1921 (see URL listed below), NOT 1947. In 1947,
the name was changed. Now, ask yourself what was going on for 46 years that
cannot be not made public. That is the best kept secret.
The reason for the error? I think most people are quoting David Icke. I
tried to correct Icke years ago over drinks at the L.A. Hilton. In my
literature searches, I came across information that discussed (that citation
is buried somewhere in one of my piles of papers) the fact that Tavistock
during the late 20s, 30s and early 40s was used as a school to train
children in certain mind techniques; the policy of the school was something
like "give me the mind of a child and I will mold it." I never could find
any more documentation on what "mind techniques" were being researched using
English children, and so dropped that line of inquiry. Naturally, because
Icke claimed to have reliable sources, I had thought he knew about
Tavistock's history before 1947. Apparently, Icke knew less than I did.

I think it falls well below the standards we hope for on this list.

GREENSPAN REPORTEDLY AIDS AND BRIBES
GEORGE BUSH and FAMILY, Part Four

by Sherman H. Skolnick

More about WHY and HOW Foster was Murdered and the Reputed Role of
Redspan/Bush. [Note: we decided to call this Part Four instead of Part Three,
Section 2].

The suppressed report of the retired intelligence agents showed that Vincent
W. Foster, Jr., was a high-ranking official of the super-secret National
Security Agency, NSA. There was no actual title for him. In effect, however,
Foster was the Chief of Bank spying, operating jointly with Alan Greenspan,
the bank dictator who is like a Soviet Commissar, hence, called by us Alan
REDSPAN.

As bank spy chief, Foster did this for some twelve years, purportedly as an
attorney/strategist for the apparent NSA proprietary, Systematics,
headquartered originally in Arkansas. His team included his reputed "lover",
Hillary Rodham Clinton. She certainly was clever and knew how to pose as one
thing and be another. Her late father reportedly was a mob "laundry man",
washing illicit funds. A CIA "darling" from an early age, Hillary went on to
become by 1990 Board Chairman of a reputed CIA proprietary conduit, New World
Foundation, financing apparent CIA-paid agents-provocateurs to discredit
indigenous dissident movements. Publicly, some thought she was a flaming
liberal. Yet, she was for GOP 1964 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater.

Foster's pal Hillary was in a position to understand criminality. Her family
came apparently from the Scranton, Pennsylvania area. Law enforcement
personnel there contend her family was reportedly linked to the Gambino crime
family, New York and Chicago and had mobster-linked cronies on the Chicago
exchanges.

William Rockefeller Clinton, on the other hand, was tied to the Chicago
mobsters and their traditional mobster vacation site, Hot Springs, Arkansas,
where his reputed mother was a mob "party girl".[Documents of the alleged
"Bill Clinton" and his early years have been more or less destroyed. Visit
our website for more details: http://www.skolnicksreport.com.] In its
simplest form, the Bill/Hillary couple was/is a CIA-mobster marriage of
convenience.

Of the trio, reportedly with Systematics, Foster was the traveler and
super-courier. He did a lot of the "leg work", worldwide. After his demise,
requests under the Freedom of Information Act, FOIA, caused disclosure of
some 700 pages of documents as to him/Systematics/NSA. Many of the records,
however, were heavily blanked out, called in FOIA parlance "redacted". While
traveling, Foster had a more private mission. Hillary had long apparently
confided in him that some day she was going to have to divorce Bill. So,
among other things, like a typical unhappily married wife, Hillary wanted to
know where her husband parked the money. [Our court reform group has a number
of members who have been in divorce court. Finding their spouse's money is a
key matter for them.]

Foster found one of Bill's coded accounts in Switzerland: Ten million
dollars, apparently part of his cut from the CIA-dope trafficking through
southern states jointly with Ollie North and George Herbert Walker Bush.
Account code name included "Chelsea Jefferson", the daughter's first name and
Bill's alleged middle name. Hillary reportedly told Foster that if and when
the marital battle begins, to put a "brick" on the Swiss and other of Bill's
secret coded accounts, EVEN THOUGH THE ELDER BUSH IS INVOLVED, through a
beneficial interest, and EVEN THOUGH THE WIRE AND OTHER TRANSFERS WERE
ARRANGED BY ALAN GREENSPAN. One of the accounts is listed as bank account
#18, on the hand-written list of a senior U.S. Treasury Official, Office of
Internal Affairs. [See Part Two of this series, and attached documents.] Some
of Bill's coded accounts were actually an overlap with the Elder Bush and
Caspar Weinberger. After Bush lost the 1992 election, he pardoned Weinberger
from being prosecuted by Independent Counsel Walsh to keep this concealed.
These accounts were arranged by former secret police chief Bush, Bill's CIA
mentor.

So, in an expected marital battle, Foster was pledged to aid pal Hillary,
even if it meant wrecking and exposing her estranged husband's cronies, the
Elder Bush and Greenspan and Weinberger. A dangerous confluence of events,
howsoever it were to occur.

The Internal Affairs Office of the U.S. Treasury was reportedly well aware of
this criminality overlap. Could the American Republic survive a current
President and former President jointly prosecuted for high crimes and
treason, an event caused by a new top official in the White House named
Foster? Realists thought, probably not.

A series of horrendous events led up to the

Cocaine Market

Muddle in the Colombian Jungle

More drug war stupidity.

IT IS not Vietnam, nor will it become so. But once again the United States is
preparing to commit lots of cash, military hardware and advisers to a battle
in a foreign jungle. This one is in southern Colombia, where an embattled
president, Andres Pastrana, faces daunting problems.

These include left-wing guerrillas and right-wing paramilitaries. Political
violence caused almost 300,000 Colombians to flee their homes last year; the
better-off have been terrorised by kidnapping and extortion. The country is
also home to the world’s biggest illegal drugs industry: it accounts for
about 80% of the cocaine and some of the heroin imported by the United
States, and has displaced Peru as the world’s main source of coca, the raw
material for cocaine. This is the main front in the developed world’s war
against the supply of drugs. And, to make matters worse, Colombia’s economy
is reeling from its worst slump since the 1930s.

On taking office in 1998, Mr Pastrana boldly launched peace talks with the
FARC, the largest guerrilla group. But they have moved slowly. The war
continues, amid widespread scepticism about the FARC’s intentions. At the
same time, Mr Pastrana has turned to the United States for help. Bill Clinton
is sympathetic, and now Congress is debating an administration request for
more aid, which would take total American assistance to Colombia to $1.6
billion over the next two years.

Mr Pastrana leads a democracy, albeit an imperfect one, and deserves
international support. But the proposed aid is ambiguous in purpose, and its
results may disappoint. The largest chunk is to set up and train three
special anti-drugs battalions, equipped with 63 helicopters, including 30
fast, modern Blackhawks. Their mission is to “push into the coca-growing
regions of southern Colombia”, in mountainous jungles now controlled by the
FARC. Once secured, the police would go in to wipe out the coca plantations.

The supply-siders’ plan

Its backers present this as a plan to staunch the flow of drugs to the United
States. But the motivation seems to be a fear that the FARC’s insurgency is
now out of control, and is a threat to other countries in the region. In
practice, the new battalions’ target will be the FARC. Since the FARC gets
lots of money (perhaps as much as $500m a year) from taxing and protecting
the drugs trade, this new southern push would not only help to prosecute the
international war on drugs but also weaken the guerrillas, persuading them to
seek peace.
That, at least, is the theory. Yet if the main aim were to support the
pursuit of peace, the aid proposal might look very different. To achieve
peace, Colombia needs stronger democratic institutions, capable of
guaranteeing security and justice for its citizens (including demobilised
guerrillas). And it needs radical reform of its armed forces. Despite Mr
Pastrana’s efforts, they continue to suffer from two serious failings. First,
they remain a largely reactive force, lacking mobility and relying too heavily
on poorly trained conscripts. Second, many military commanders retain close
links with the paramilitaries. The belief runs deep that paramilitary
violence will hasten peace. In fact, it does the opposite. It is as
unacceptable as the violence of the guerrillas.

Yet the American aid proposal looks as if it will merely bolt three shiny new
anti-drugs battalions on to an abusive and unreformed military force. That
imbalance is familiar. After more than a decade of American aid, Colombia’s
national police are capable of staging sophisticated operations against drugs
gangs, involving months of surveillance and intricately co-ordinated raids.
Yet they are incapable of acting as an efficient constabulary, providing the
average Colombian with security against crime, kidnapping or assassination.
Meanwhile, back in the United States

That is not by chance. Aiding the Colombian police has been adopted as a
political cause by a group of congressional Republicans who believe that one
of the cheaper and more effective ways to deal with the United States’
addiction to drugs is to stop their production at source. That approach is
also reflected in the annual “certification” process, which this week again
saw the United States stand in unilateral judgment over its neighbours’
anti-drugs efforts.

Belief in supply-side remedies has come to be shared by some officials in the
Clinton administration. They argue that the sharp fall in coca production in
Peru and Bolivia in recent years is proof that a combination of stepped-up
repression and programmes to help former coca farmers can achieve the
complete elimination of coca in those countries—and in Colombia (see
article).

It is a heady vision, but a flawed

BUCHANAN STANDS FIRM ON CHINA
- Says Trade Issue Linked to Taiwan

Reform Party presidential candidate Pat Buchanan warned yesterday that
U.S. –Chinese relations are reaching a boiling point over Taiwan and urged
Congress to delay granting China normal trade relation status.

“Beijing is pushing this to crisis,” the three time presidential candidate
said
at a National Press Club news conference. He cited recent warnings by
China to Taiwan, in the lead-up to the latter’s elections, to hasten
reunification talks and to discourage the island from declaring independence.

Given those circumstances, he said, extending normal trade relation (NTR)
status at this time would be “the definition of appeasement.”

Mr. Buchanan has been a longtime opponent of the administration’s policy
toward China.

The Clinton administration wants Congress to vote on the issue by June, and
has begun lobbying hard for passage of legislation that would extend NTR to
China permanently. Such a law would end the yearly debate over China’s
human rights practices and trade policies and would clear the way for that
country’s entry into the World Trade Organization.

“I sense a growing panic inside the White House that this has to be rammed
through and done at all,” Mr. Buchanan said of the China legislation. “I
think [Texas Gov. George W.] Bush, if he’s the nominee, and [Vice
President Al] Gore, would like this out of the way,” he said.

Mr. Buchanan went on to criticize President Clinton’s policy of “strategic
partnership” with China, in which the administration has sought to strengthen
democratic forces within China through open trade and engagement. “The
policy has been pursued for seven years - it’s not working,” he said.
“President Clinton can’t change course. It’s up to a new president” to
chart a
new China strategy, Mr. Buchanan said.

He calculated that the United States has a $70 billion trade deficit with
China, and said if he were elected president he would immediately impose
tariffs on Chinese goods sold in the United States to correct the imbalance
and would suspend NTR for one year.

The Reform Party candidate has made his support of a less deferential
stance toward China a hallmark of his campaign. By asserting the need for a
“moral” component to American foreign policy – and on that basis objecting
to continued trade ties with the Communist nation - he has attempted to
distinguish himself from the other candidates.

Mr. Buchanan has criticized Mr. Bush for his views on trade with China, and
has attacked both Mr. Bush and Arizona Sen. John McCain for supporting
U.S. involvement in the war in Kosovo last spring.

While the Republican candidates have advocated a more aggressive posture
toward Iraq, Mr. Buchanan favors lifting sanctions against that country,
saying they have been successful only in murdering innocent children.

Reiterating a theme heard in all of his presidential bids, Mr. Buchanan said,
“The looting of our country in trade and manufacturing must end. We are not
globalists; we are Americans.”

You're advocating that people should be killed for their political
beliefs?

For their actions.

There's a difference between a war criminal and a "Nazi", you know.

No, there is not.

How about those people that the ADL maliciously lablels as "Nazis"?

Some really are Nazis, some are not. Do your own research; don't depend on
the ADL or anybody else, either.

The ADL is not to be trusted. They arethemselves, as the saying goes,
"ultra-nationalists," and in many ways not at all unlike their enemies.
They spied on me personally, which I resent deeply, and did it in a way
that the information they gained is likely to have fallen into not just
their hands but the hands of our mutual enemies. So screw the ADL, I say.

Do you want them killed too?

We'd all be a lot better off if some of them were dead. Personally, I'd
prefer they do the honorable thing and commit sepeku. Most of the 'old
fighters" have died off. Their organizations have not. It's the current
generation and their crypto-allies that I'm most concerned with. These
guys are dangerous. Yet we allow them to gain strength. Sooner of later
there will come a day of reckoning. Mark my words.

How about "Germans"? Daniel Goldhagen says that "ordinary Germans" were
"Hitler's willing executioners".

Some were. Some weren't. Some Germans died fighting Hitler and his gang.
But the guys who shoveled coal on Eichmann's train, the ones who were
"just doing their job," they shoulda hung, too.

Kill all Germans? (etc.)

I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth. It's rude, it's dishonest
and doing it from a safe distance is cowardly. Do it to F2F and I'll kick
your sorry ass into the middle of next week.

[CTRL] CHINA WAR PLAN AGAINST TAIWAN AND U.S.

Chinese Military Planning Document:

CHINA WAR PLAN AGAINST TAIWAN AND U.S.
3/3/00 - By J. Michael Waller

The People’s Republic of China is actively planning a military invasion of
Taiwan and is preparing to wage war against the United States — including
firing its small arsenal of strategic nuclear missiles on the territory of
the United States — if Washington attempts to defend the island. In an
internal document from the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Military
Commission to all its regional commanders, Beijing says it hopes to absorb
Taiwan through nonviolent means but warns of an “increased possibility for a
military solution,” arguing: “It is better to fight now than [in the] future
— the earlier, the better.”

In the document, (see "China Prepares for War") Beijing envisions a
blitzkrieg-like attack on Taiwan, launching a “first fatal strike” so that
“the Taiwan forces have no way to organize effective resistance.” Under this
plan, “we will be able to control Taiwan before the U.S. intervention and
then concentrate our forces to fight the U.S.”

The paper, distributed to commanders in August 1999, urges military leaders
to “be well prepared for war” with Taiwan and, if necessary, the United
States, following Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui’s “two-country theory,” in
which the Republic of China on Taiwan would seek independent statehood. The
Communist Chinese leadership views Lee’s position as a threat to the
territorial integrity of the People’s Republic and argues that if allowed to
stand would promote mainland China’s disintegration by encouraging
independence for Tibet and other occupied areas. The paper says that
large-scale coastal and inland military exercises planned for Sept. 1999 were
intended not only to intimidate Taiwan but “to adapt our armed forces to
cross-the-Straits operations.”

Beijing anticipates the passive support of Russia in a Taiwan invasion. A
summit between Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Russian President Boris Yeltsin
and others in Kazakhstan that same month was intended on Beijing’s part to
help reduce “the traditional pressure along our northeast and northwest
borders, and increase the proportion of forces which can be moved to the
southeast coastal regions,” as well as to keep open “land routes during the
war … in case we are forced to fight a full-scale war against the U.S.”

Insight has obtained a copy of this startling document, which has been
translated into English. (Click here to read the full document.) The purpose
of the document is to make “high-ranking commanders in non-combat as well as
combat positions … well aware of the following issues so as to better
understand the strategic decisions made by the Party’s Central Committee and
be well-prepared for the war in their units based on the rapidly-changing
relationships with Taiwan.”

The document tells commanders to understand the party’s thinking behind its
preparations and “a wave of politically-oriented military exercises” intended
“to raise the political consciousness of all commanders and soldiers up to a
level required by war.”

Peaceful reunification with Taiwan, according to the Central Military
Commission paper, “is still the best option” for Beijing’s long-term
interests, as military options would be disruptive of the Party’s economic
development goals. The document says it is very unlikely that European
countries would aid in Taiwan’s defense, but anticipates that the U.S. would
attempt to defend against an attack. Therefore, prior to an invasion of
Taiwan, “we must take into account the above [diplomatic] factors and use
diplomatic leverage to minimize international resistance.”

Beijing’s crackdown on the Falun Gong spiritual group, the document says, was
aimed at crushing separatist sentiment. “To outlaw ‘Falun Gong’ was a
preemptive measure aimed at the ultimate resolution of [the] Taiwan issue,”
according to the document, “not only eliminating domestic trouble, but paving
the way for reunification as well.” The Party leaders seem pleased with the
weakness of international protests: “Negative international reaction has
proven to be limited, and the protest from the U.S. was particularly pale and
powerless, fully demonstrating that our Party has the ability and courage to
gain advantage in complicated domestic and international struggles.”

Senior Chinese military officials, the document says, disclosed “some
information on strategic weaponry so that the U.S. will exercise some caution
in decision-making and be aware that it would have to pay a price if it
decided to intervene in a military conflict. The purpose is to prevent the
U.S. from being deeply involved even if a war becomes unavoidable so that the
losses on both sides of the Taiwan straits will be minimized throughout the
war. The main point is deterrence,

  DEATH KNELL FOR FLUORIDATION?

Two recent reports1,2 that raise further questions about the alleged
safety of water fluoridation reveal significant and
disturbing brain cell neurotoxicity from relatively low concentrations
of aluminium fluoride and sodium fluoride in
drinking water of rats. Abstracted and commented on at length in this
issue of FLUORIDE (pages 89-99), these
investigations demonstrate that long-term ingestion by rats of drinking
water containing either 0.5 ppm aluminium
fluoride (AlF3), or 2.1 ppm sodium fluoride (NaF) causes readily
detectible damage not only to neuronal brain cells and
vasculature but also to glomerular kidney cells.

In one set of experiments the commonly recommended 1 ppm fluoride ion
level used in water fluoridation was present
in the drinking water along with 0.5 ppm aluminium ion (reported as "
0.5 ppm AlF3" ), and in the other series the same
1 ppm fluoride concentration was derived from 2.1 ppm NaF. Both brain
cell and kidney cell abnormalities differed
between the AlF3 and NaF groups. Compared to controls with Al derived
from the diet, the Al levels in the brain tissue
were more than doubled in the AlF3 group but not quite doubled in the
NaF group. Although the kidney tissue Al levels
were also doubled in the AlF3 group, they were about the same in the NaF
group.

Other previous experiments with rats showed that the toxicity of 0.5 ppm
AlF3 in the drinking water, including severe
deterioration in overall health, was significantly greater than at 5 or
even 50 ppm AlF3. The reason for this paradoxical
concentration effect is obscure, as is the mechanism by which aluminium
along with fluoride passes through
hydrophobic membranes and enters cells of the brain and kidneys.

Considering the clear-cut character of these laboratory findings, it is
surprising that such adverse effects have not been
reported long before now. After many years of supposedly intensive
research, the 50th anniversary of the beginning of
water fluoridation in Grand rapids, Michigan, was celebrated on 25
January 1995 as an occasion for "justifiable pride".3
Even as recently as 1993 a National Research Council report of the US
National Academy of Sciences concluded that
the US Environmental Protection Agency's current Maximum Contaminant
Level of 4 mg/L (4 ppm) for fluoride in
drinking water was quite appropriate as an interim standard.4 This
position was supported by a selective review of
data concerning dental and skeletal fluorosis, bone fragility,
genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and fluoride effects on the
renal, gastrointestinal, and immune systems. Not cited, however, were
fluoride effects on the central nervous system,
including clinical reports of cognitive impairment5 and findings of
impaired intelligence in both animals6 and
humans7,8 related to fluoride.

The "ethical basis"9,10 for adding fluoride to water supplies depends on
the procedure being safe or at least having a
highly favourable benefit/risk ratio. The new findings reviewed here,
showing impaired brain function from fluoride in
conjunction with aluminium, have clearly tipped the balance against
fluoridation. If we keep in mind the ancient
dictum primum non nocere, then the death knell for fluoridation has
begun to toll.

New `Tuskegee-Like Experiment' Planned with Pneumococcal Pneumonia
Vaccine,
Reported by Classen Immunotherapies

BALTIMORE, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by
Classen Immunotherapies, Inc.:

The FDA cleared yesterday a controversial new pneumococcal pneumonia
vaccine with questionable safety and a US government advisory panel is
planning to selectively target black children and Native American
children forimmunization. This plan is being criticized for making
children of certain racial minorities "human guinea pigs". It is
possible that 1% or more of the
children who receive the vaccine may develop insulin dependent diabetes
or another autoimmune disease from the vaccine.

This week the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory
Committee
on Immunization Practices recommended that children under 2 not receive
the new
pneumococcal vaccine but that black and Native American children age 2-5
be
selectively targeted for immunization. This policy has come under
criticism
because the vaccine has never been properly tested for safety and the
FDA has
been told by an expert that the vaccine is expected to cause an epidemic
of
autoimmune disease.

The controversial vaccine is the conjugated 7-valent pneumococcal
vaccine
which is really a combination of 7 different vaccines, each to a
separate
strain of pneumococcal pneumonia bacteria. The vaccine is similar in
structure to the already marketed hemophilus meningitis vaccine, a
vaccine
linked to large epidemics of insulin dependent diabetes.

Dr. J. Bart Classen, an immunologist at Classen Immunotherapies,
published
data in the British Medical Journal (BMJ 1999; 319:1133) supporting a
causal relationship between the hemophilus vaccine and the development
of insulin
dependent diabetes. The vaccine has been incriminated in causing over
58
cases of insulin dependent diabetes per 100,000 children immunized in
Finland. Dr. Classen told the FDA at a recent meeting that the 7 valent

pneumococcal vaccine may be 7 times as toxic as the hemophilus vaccine,
possibly causing an estimated 400 to 700 children to develop insulin
dependent diabetes/100,000 children immunized. These cases of diabetes
may
not occur until 3.5 to 10 years following immunization.

"The government's plan to selectively target black and Native Americans
is
likely to have the effect of genocide, 0.5% of children who receive this

vaccine may develop insulin dependent diabetes from the vaccine and
diabetes is just one of many life threatening autoimmune disease,"
states Classen.
"I believe the vaccine clearly should not have been approved by the FDA
because it does not meet the criteria for approval based on US law."

Dr. Classen's research has been published in numerous journals and
featured
in national news reports. For the latest information on the effects of
vaccines on insulin dependent diabetes and other autoimmune diseases

Some call it the Smart Shooter, a new
rifle for American
infantry troops that is two weapons in
one, is accurate up
to 1,000 yards and in effect fires
around corners. Its
message to enemies is that they can run
but they can't
hide.

The futuristic mega-gun is causing alarm
among
arms-control specialists who call it the
Darth Vader
weapon and say that it will cause
enormous carnage
among civilians when it inevitably falls
into the hands of
terrorists.

Still in the development phase, the
rifle for 2006 has just
been shown off with great pride by the
Pentagon to
members of Congress who will be asked to
put up the
money. It will not be cheap. Each rifle
will cost as much
as £7,500 pounds - 20 times the price of
the M16 that it
will replace. But, as army officers like
to say, they will
get a much bigger bang for their buck.
The makers,
Alliant Techsystems, say that the weapon
will
revolutionise ground combat much as the
machine gun.

Pentagon jargon has given the new gun an
awkward title:
the Objective Individual Combat Weapon.
Using one
trigger, the rifle can fire a standard
5.56mm Nato bullet
and a 20mm high explosive shell that
will burst in the air.
It can spray shrapnel behind, above or
even from the side
of enemy troops who have taken cover
behind a building.
The shell can be timed to explode after
a short delay.
The weapon's 1,000-yard accuracy is
twice that of other
rifles, made possible by a laser system
built into the sight.
This rangefinder fixes the target,
measures the distance
and passes it along to a computer chip
in the shell.

The gunsight has an infrared lens for
night vision. It can
also have video camera with a zoom lens
that is linked to
a video display attached to the
soldier's helmet, allowing
him to aim accurately without exposing
himself to enemy
return fire. But there are snags still
be be ironed out. Two
men were injured when a shell burst in a
barrel during
firing tests. The rifle weighs more than
18lb. There are
questions whether its electronic innards
will be rugged
enough for rain, snow and difficult
terrain.

Michael Klare, a professor of peace and
world security
issues and a board member of the Arms
Control
Association, says that the Pentagon is
seeking this
combination of firepower and automation
to compensate
for the uncertain aim of GIs.

He said: "Soldiers won't have to worry
about careful
steady aim. They'll just look through
the viewfinder and
pull the trigger."

Indiana near the freeway at rush hour and the oxygen level had
been found to be 9%.

Yes, but where is there evidence to substantiate what Ed McCabe
asserted ? Why has no scientist or university or government
agency announced or published anything similar -- or have they ?
If so, where are these other accounts recorded, and why is the
sensationalist media ignoring such a sensational story ?

And what does "fairly recently" actually mean ? (re: 35% oxygen)

Also, how did they (who ever they were) measure the oxygen near
a freeway ? Did exhaust hydrocarbons contaminate their measuring
device, rendering their "results" (9% oxygen) totally invalid ?

Amber that is believed to be 80,000,000 years old, was lab tested
a number of years back. It was carefully opened under controlled
conditions and the air that was trapped in bubbles inside was
analyzed. The report was that the air had higher oxygen (35%) and
higher pressure (1.5 atmospheres).

I've read an account similar to this, and it all sounds plausible.
But conditions existing 80 million years ago are hardly relevant
  to today's atmospheric conditions.

When I was in high school in 1964, the textbooks (published
about 1955) said that the air was 21% oxygen. Now, 36 years
later, new textbooks say the air is 21% oxygen. There's been
no change at all -- or only a very small change -- unless you
give credence to various (apparently) unsubstantiated rumors.

I'd sure like to find some verifiable indication that the
Earth is running out of oxygen -- IF it is true.

Until then, I can only presume that this is environmentalist
doomsday theology, or intentional propaganda, or urban rumor,
or perhaps all of the above.

I think Ed also said that scientists experimenting on growing
things in Martian (low pressure) and Venerian (high pressure)
conditions found that at 1.5 atmospheres no anerobic bacteria
could exist in the soil within 2' of the surface.

The 'missing' oxygen, if it is in fact missing, is bound up in
compounds with other elements. In a similar fashion, most carbon
is bound up in limestone, hydrocarbons, trees, etc.

This could happen over millions of years, but I doubt oxygen
has been rapidly "bound up" over the past two centuries by
  industrial-age technologies.

Look at it this way: Combustion of fossil fuels, etc.,
produces carbon dioxide (CO2) by oxidizing carbon in a ratio
of one carbon atom per two oxygen atoms.

The atmosphere's CO2 level has grown by 28% in the last 150 years,
according to one source quoted in the media. However, 150 years
ago CO2 was only 0.028% of the atmosphere, and today it has grown
to 0.036% (given 28% growth), which is a difference of .008%.

[If someone has more accurate figures, please let me know.]

Now, with oxygen at 21%, look at the difference in magnitude.
CO2 grew 0.008%. With two oxygen atoms in each CO2 molecule,
perhaps the free oxygen level fell by 0.016%. That's hardly
enough to measure, and cannot justify rumors claiming
  drastically reduced atmospheric oxygen levels.

Of course, we could ask, is oxygen "disappearing" by another
route -- hundreds or thousands of times faster than it is
being bound up in CO2 ?

Hmm... any ideas about that ?

Well Andy,

The drawback of the psychedelic 'we are one/divine/there is no
separation' experience is it only lasts for the duration of the high.
You have only opened one of the top chakras artificially, by the drug
burning holes in the barrier which separates this reality from a
higher. You are only getting a glimpse into the unknown territory, which
entry is earned by those who follow the rules as laid out in the
Bible.eg save your kundalini. Take too many drugs and you won't be able
to tell the difference between the multiple realities existing in the
universe.

I think the Bible is interpreted with different states of consciousness
according to how much a person can digest of deeper experiences
according to need. Others see ETs everywhere. Some interpret it
symbolically because they can't yet grasp it inspirationally. Focusing
on the hell part is an inability to see the reason why God would want to
create 12 races to develop differing paths of mankind to evolve. If you
read Josephus [approx 70AD] he said each of the 12 tribes represented
one sign of the Zodiac.

At the end of the Bible in Revelation Ch 7:3 it says 12,000 of each
tribe will have the seal of God on their forheads. Obviously God has a
plan to ensure survival of the human body of those who have the right
DNA to start again in the next dimension. The light in the forehead
would be indicative of the presence of the higher ethers necessary to
change dimension. At present the so called 6th Aryan race would like to
accomplish this feat technologically,{see the post of 2 days ago [US
Military fake rapture and genocide -Important, sent 4th March] but
those descendants of the Nordic Pleiadians dip out here, unless they
have interbred with the tribe of Benjamin who migrated to Scandanavia.

Why worry about hell after death, it's hell during life you need to
avoid, when the hoards of hell in their underground bases in US will be
emerging in unison with the UN foreign troops to round up the
population. It's pretty obvious that all of are being categorised by the
Ets, for evacuation purposes. I believe millions will be transported off
the planet to be put back later to return to an earth that has changed
position in space.

The Ets know this from their time machines and can take who they want
if they are not claimed by Jesus' army. Will one come back or not this
is the real worry? Have you not heard of the fluoresent marks people
have returned with after ET abduction. Psychedelic revelations won't
save you, I think it is a matter of fitting into the right category by
unseen hands. We decide nothing! We are not 'all one' we are DNA
categorised by those who run the solar system, and decide who gets born
in what family.

Justice
of the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight and the Subcommittee on
Crime of the Committee on the Judiciary at the Oversight Hearings on Federal
Law Enforcement Conduct in Relation to the Branch Davidian Compound near
Waco, Texas, and appended documents, Congressional Record, July, 1995.

ABUSIVE CHILDREARING PRACTICES AT RANCH APOCALYPSE

Destructive characteristics of this setting included undermining traditional
parent-child relationships by David Koresh. Attachments to parent figures
were continually undermined and replaced with inappropriate dependence upon
a
central figure, David Koresh. Continuous undermining of other relationships,
including sibling relationships, husband and wife relationships, and
friendships was pervasive. Any attachment judged to be more important to an
individual than the attachment to God or David was undermined. By 1992,
these
children were taught to view David Koresh as their father, and later, these
children were taught to consider David as God (see slides). In the context
of
this evolving theology, Koresh's views became increasingly restrictive,
unpredictable and harsh for the children living at Ranch Apocalypse (see
Attachment 7).

These children had a set of inappropriate and age-inappropriate behaviors
and
significant gaps in general understanding, reflecting the idiosyncratic
teaching practices present in the compound. For example, very young
children,
including a six year old girl, knew an incredible amount about weapons,
while
they knew almost nothing about other common age-appropriate concepts. In one
example, we had a room with a variety of toys, including a small bolt action
toy rifle. Invariably, in the first visit to the room, each child first went
over and picked up the rifle. In one interview, a young girl went over,
picked up the rifle, pulled the bolt back, looked down the barrel and said
with disgust, "This isn't a real gun."

It is clear that these children were significantly traumatized by previous
harsh and inappropriate disciplinary techniques including severe corporal
punishment, extended isolation (overnight), severe food restrictions and
separation from primary caretakers. These children were continually exposed
to harsh, capricious, and humiliating disciplinary techniques. Children
expected to be beaten for events such as spilling milk. Infants were
severely
spanked for 'misbehaving'. In addition, these children were threatened with
death if they revealed aspects of life inside the compound to the
'non-believers'. As is typical when an abusive adult threatens a child, they
were told that 'they will not understand our special ways'. These children
were convinced that David Koresh would return from the grave and punish them
if they betrayed the Davidians by interacting with, or disclosing to, the
'bad guys' (law enforcement, non-believers, 'Babylonians').

Koresh was exploitive and manipulative of these children and exposing them
to
a variety of inappropriate sexual content -- such as graphically describing
intercourse and sexual 'technique' in his hours-long sermons where children
were present. Furthermore, the girls were socialized to believe that sex
with
Koresh, by age 12 (and earlier), was normative, appropriate, and, indeed,
desirable -- being part of God's plan as revealed to David. All of the young
girls were being prepared to be David's wives and that was a healthy and
desired position to be in. One of the older girls expressed distress, now
that she had been released from the compound, that she would not be able to
be picked by David as one of his brides. Clear and compelling disclosure of
sexual abuse of a 10 year old child by David

Homeopathy: The Ultimate Fake
Stephen Barrett, M.D.
Homeopathic "remedies" enjoy a unique status in the health marketplace: They
are the only category of quack products legally marketable as drugs. This
situation is the result of two circumstances. First, the 1938 Federal Food,
Drug, and Cosmetic Act, which was shepherded through Congress by a
homeopathic physician who was a senator, recognizes as drugs all substances
included in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States. Second, the
FDA has not held homeopathic products to the same standards as other drugs.
Today they are marketed in health-food stores, in pharmacies, in
practitioner
offices, by multilevel distributors [A], through the mail, and on the
Internet.

Basic Misbeliefs
Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician, began formulating
homeopathy's basic principles in the late 1700s. Hahnemann was justifiably
distressed about bloodletting, leeching, purging, and other medical
procedures of his day that did far more harm than good. Thinking that these
treatments were intended to "balance the body's 'humors' by opposite
effects," he developed his "law of similars" -- a notion that symptoms of
disease can be cured by extremely small amounts of substances that produce
similar symptoms in healthy people when administered in large amounts. The
word "homeopathy" is derived from the Greek words homoios (similar) and
pathos (suffering or disease).

Hahnemann and his early followers conducted "provings" in which they
administered herbs, minerals, and other substances to healthy people,
including themselves, and kept detailed records of what they observed. Later
these records were compiled into lengthy reference books called materia
medica, which are used to match a patient's symptoms with a "corresponding"
drug.

Hahnemann declared that diseases represent a disturbance in the body's
ability to heal itself and that only a small stimulus is needed to begin the
healing process. He also claimed that chronic diseases were manifestations
of
a suppressed itch (psora), a kind of miasma or evil sprit. At first he used
small doses of accepted medications. But later he used enormous dilutions
and
theorized that the smaller the dose, the more powerful the effect -- a
notion
commonly referred to as the "law of infinitesimals." That, of course, is
just
the opposite of the dose-response relationship that pharmacologists have
demonstrated.

The basis for inclusion in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia is not modern
scientific testing, but homeopathic "provings" conducted during the 1800s
and
early 1900s. The current (ninth) edition describes how more than a thousand
substances are prepared for homeopathic use. It does not identify the
symptoms or diseases for which homeopathic products should be used; that is
decided by the practitioner (or manufacturer). The fact that substances
listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia are legally recognized as "drugs"
does
not mean that either the law or the FDA recognizes them as effective.

Because homeopathic remedies were actually less dangerous than those of
nineteenth-century medical orthodoxy, many medical practitioners began using
them. At the turn of the twentieth century, homeopathy had about 14,000
practitioners and 22 schools in the United States. But as medical science
and
medical education advanced, homeopathy declined sharply in America, where
its
schools either closed or converted to modern methods. The last pure
homeopathic school in this country closed during the 1920s [1].

Many homeopaths maintain that certain people have a special affinity to a
particular remedy (their "constitutional remedy") and will respond to it for
a variety of ailments. Such remedies can be prescribed according to the
person's

[CTRL] Cell Phones and Your Health..

2000-03-04 Thread Michael F. Corbin

For what its worth...

Recently, there was a press release on ABCNEWS.COM concerning new
research being done in the UK on the safety of cell phones. Reading
this, I began to get worried that my use of a digital cell phone could be
affecting my health. I use one pretty heavily.

I have had service with Airtouch for about 4 years and began service with
them when digital was still in the development stages. I used an
analog phone which broadcasts on the 900 MhZ band. At that time, I
was sufficiently concerned about holding a radio emitting device to my
head and used an attache phone, which allows me to install the phone in
my car and hook it to an external antenna and hold a handset to my head
without the fear of being radiated by the phone. I used the analog
phone service until Airtouch practically insisted that I switch to
digital. With great reluctance, I did. They assured me that
the digital phones put out such a small amount of energy that they were
safe to use.

Following the press release, I decided to switch my service back to
analog and use my attache phone again. When I called Airtouch, I
was told that the price of analog was too expensive and they set me up on
a plan that is excessively expensive.

My complaint to them was: They are forcing people to use digital phones
despite the strong possibility that they are dangerous to our
health. They are using price manipulation to assure that people
don't use analog service which, in my opinion, is not quite as dangerous
as the digital phones which broadcast on a frequency above 1
gigahertz. You will also notice that no digital phone comes with a
handset or the ability to operate external to your vehicle like an
attache phone without spending $250.00 for a car install. This
still does not allow you the ability to use the phone without an external
microphone and speaker which diminshes quality. If you want your
phone call to be personal, you still have to hold it to your head where
you get a dose of the energy emitting from the phone.

I am a member of the press. I am planning on using whatever
resource I have available to me to take these greedy companies to
task. My belief is that they should make analog service available
to their customers at a comparable price to the digital. Thus,
people can minimize their health risks by using phones such as an attache
phone.

The research that is being done is quite compelling that there is
significant health risk to people who use digital phones. The large
carriers like Airtouch are trying to cash in on the thing before the
hammer drops. It is a sad day when the value of human life is
relegated to profit with these large companies.

People had better wake up and realize that this world is becoming smaller
and smaller when it comes to what we consume. As the big fish
swallow up the small fish, competition and free market begin to
suffer. Consider that the prices of gasoline, food and other items
that we consume are becoming more and more expensive. The law of
supply and demand still rule. Send a clear and strong message to
these multinational corporations by exercising your power over
them. Don't buy, complain and demand that they listen to what we
have to say.

Mom faces jail sentence in battle
over breast-feeding versus jury duty

WASHINGTON, DC -- An Idaho mother may be thrown into jail
because she thinks that breast-feeding her daughter is more important
than jury duty -- and she's 100% correct to think that, says the
Libertarian Party.

"This is a case of a hungry child versus a power-hungry
government that doesn't care about families," charged Steve Dasbach,
Libertarian Party national director. "Sadly, the government may win,
and one small child may temporarily lose her mother because of an
unfair, inflexible mandatory jury duty system.

"Courts are supposed to produce justice -- but no justice can
come from a system that has the power to toss a mother into a jail cell
because she wants to nourish her daughter."

On March 13, Siri Wright of Boise, Idaho will face contempt of
court charges at the Ada County Courthouse. Her crime: Refusing to
predict for a jury commissioner when she will stop breast-feeding her
two-year-old daughter.

Supporters say Wright may have been targeted because of her
unusual child-rearing method -- "ecological breast-feeding" -- which
allows children to wean themselves during a process that can take two
to three years.

Wright had first been called for jury duty in 1998, and was
given a one-year postponement because she was breast-feeding. Called
back in mid-1999, she said she could not predict when her daughter
would wean herself.

Despite the fact that Idaho law specifically excuses
breast-feeding mothers from jury duty, the Jury Commissioner ordered
her to report for jury duty on December 9 -- in effect, ordering Wright
to stop breast-feeding.

If convicted of contempt, Wright faces three days in jail and a
$100 fine. And, more importantly, she would be separated from her
daughter and son for the first time in their lives.

The case is a stark reminder that while politicians talk about
"helping families," the actual effect of government policies is
frequently the exact opposite, said Dasbach.

"Mothers, not judges, should decide when to breast-feed their
children," he said. "Any legal system that considers mandatory jury
duty more important than dedicated mother duty -- and would literally
rip a nursing child out of the arms of her loving mother -- is a system
that is the very definition of family-unfriendly."

How would Libertarians solve the conflict between nursing
mothers and the public need for juries?

End mandatory jury duty, suggested Dasbach.

"Compulsory jury duty rests on the assumption that your first
obligation is to serve the state, not to serve yourself and your
family," he said. "Jury duty is important, but it shouldn't override a
mother's right to feed her child."

Besides, said Dasbach, there's a simple way to ensure an
adequate jury pool without trampling anyone's rights: Make jury service
voluntary.

"As long as there are people willing to act as jurors for the
small payment the courts offer, the state has no reason to force
unwilling people to serve," he said. "And if that isn't adequate, why
not have paid professional juries, staffed by people who want to do the
job -- instead of people who are forced to do it? Either solution is
better than forcing unwilling parents into jury duty against their
will.

"As the case of Siri Wright makes clear, it's the government
that really needs to be weaned -- from the notion that civic duty is
more important than family duty."

Study: Gun training (not gun bans)
can help reduce tragic child violence

WASHINGTON, DC -- The shooting of a Michigan 6-year-old may
focus renewed attention on a federal study with an unconventional
conclusion: Giving kids more access to guns may actually help reduce
such tragic incidents in the future, the Libertarian Party said today.

"Instead of using the death of Kayla Rolland as an excuse to
impose more gun control, politicians like Bill Clinton should read this
study -- since it demonstrates that children who are taught by parents
to use guns responsibly are far less likely to commit crimes," said
Steve Dasbach, the party's national director.

"No, we can't say that this particular shooting could have been
prevented -- or that this troubled 6-year-old should have been given a
gun by his equally troubled parents. But what we can say is that, in
general, the most effective way to reduce firearm-related violence
among children is to buy them a gun and teach them how to use it
responsibly."

That surprising discovery is contained in a study by the
federal government entitled, "Urban Delinquency and Substance Abuse,"
which was conducted from 1993-1995 by the U.S. Department of Justice's
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

In an effort to determine the relationship between "problem
behaviors" like drug use, teen pregnancy, and crime, child
psychologists tracked 4,000 boys and girls aged 6 to 15 in Denver,
Pittsburgh, and Rochester, NY.

The findings were a slap in the face to "conventional wisdom"
about children and guns, said Dasbach -- and a sharp rebuke to Bill
Clinton's renewed calls for mandatory trigger locks and other gun
control measures in the wake of Tuesday's shooting in Mount Morris
Township, Michigan.

According to the study:

* Children who get guns from their parents don't commit gun
crimes (0%), while children who get illegal guns are very likely to do
so (21%).

* Children who get guns from parents are less likely to commit
any kind of street crime (14%) than children who have no gun in the
house (24%) -- and are dramatically less likely to do so than children
who acquire an illegal gun (74%).

* Children who get guns from parents are less likely to use
drugs (13%) than children who get illegal guns (41%).

"Boys who own legal firearms have much lower rates of
delinquency and drug use [than boys who get illegal guns] and are even
slightly less delinquent than non-owners of guns," the study reported.

"The evidence is in: When it comes to preventing youthful
violence, responsible parents and the Second Amendment apparently work
better than politicians' irresponsible proposals, such as so-called
smart-gun technology or mandated safety locks," said Dasbach.

Are Libertarians saying that every parent should buy their
child a gun?

"Of course not," said Dasbach. "Deciding whether to give your
son or daughter a gun -- and teaching them how to use it -- is a
serious decision that every parent will have to make. Many parents will
properly decide that their children are not mature enough to learn how
to use a gun safely. But the point is: Responsible parents are better
able to make that decision than a bunch of irresponsible politicians in
Washington, DC.

"Such an enlightened approach to gun ownership will not bring
Kayla Rolland back to life," Dasbach acknowledged. "But it would make
it less likely that another Kayla Rolland would die in such a tragic
and pointless incident. And that would be a step in the right
direction."

I agree. I have lived here in Waco for the last three years studying the
teachings of David Koresh. The major players involved at the decision making
level were from Baylor. If you look at its beginning and the writings of
Braun in the "Iconoclast" you will see the filth on which this cesspool was
founded. And what can come from a cesspool but scum!

It is said in Waco, by Sam Naive, an historian in his eighties that "Baylor

Baylor College is heavily CIA connected.
Implicated in GWS conspiracy, and others.
It's also near the military base where the delta-murder commandos that were
illegally sic'd on American citizens @waco were based.

Based on the high level of unmitigated trash posted by shannon, I'd say
this

Crime of the Committee on the Judiciary at the Oversight Hearings on
Federal
Law Enforcement Conduct in Relation to the Branch Davidian Compound near
Waco, Texas, and appended documents, Congressional Record, July, 1995.

ABUSIVE CHILDREARING PRACTICES AT RANCH APOCALYPSE

Destructive characteristics of this setting included undermining
traditional
parent-child relationships by David Koresh. Attachments to parent figures
were continually undermined and replaced with inappropriate dependence upon
a
central figure, David Koresh. Continuous undermining of other
relationships,
including sibling relationships, husband and wife relationships, and
friendships was pervasive.

In
one
example, we had a room with a variety of toys, including a small bolt
action
toy rifle. Invariably, in the first visit to the room, each child first
went
over and picked up the rifle.

As is typical when an abusive adult threatens a child,
they
were told that 'they will not understand our special ways'. These children
were convinced that David Koresh would return from the grave and punish
them
if they betrayed the Davidians by interacting with, or disclosing to, the
'bad guys' (law enforcement, non-believers, 'Babylonians').

Koresh was exploitive and manipulative of these children and exposing

the
crowd and to the government, “We’re not here to tell the government that we

Federal Judge Barker reversed her own ruling, and ordered the
Baptist Temple to pay $5.9 million in taxes and penalties to the Internal
Revenue Service. This tax, according to the Church leaders and its

China threatens to nuke America
  'First wage 'Vietnam'-like conflict,
then bomb U.S., says PLA document

  By Charles Smith
  © 2000 WorldNetDaily.com

A recently-declassified Chinese military document states
communist China will first conduct a "Vietnam"-like
conventional war against American forces, and then
eventually fight a nuclear war against the U.S. homeland.

The document, recently translated by an American
intelligence agency, was sent by the Chinese army
central command to all the regional garrisons and army
corps headquarters in China. A copy was obtained by
  WorldNetDaily for this exclusive report.

According to the August 1999 policy document
published by the People's Liberation Army Office of the
Central Military Command, China is "willing to sustain
major losses of our armed forces" in exchange for large
losses of U.S. military personnel. The Central Military
Command is the party command structure of the
People's Liberation Army -- that is, the people who
make policy for the Chinese military.

"If the U.S. forces lose thousands or hundreds of men
under our powerful strikes, the anti-war sentiment within
their country will force the U.S. government to take the
same path as they did in Viet Nam," states the Chinese
  army document.

Titled "Watching Closely for Changes in Relationships
with Taiwan and Enhancing Awareness of Military
Leadership of Current Situation," the Chinese army
strategy document also describes a chilling scenario of
  nuclear war with America.

"In comparison with the U.S. nuclear arsenal, our
disadvantage is mainly numeric, which in real wars the
qualitative gap will be reflected only as different
requirement of strategic theory. In terms of deterrence,
there is not any difference in practical value. So far we
have built up the capability for the second and third
nuclear strikes and are fairly confident in fighting a
nuclear war. The PCC (Communist Party Central
Committee) has decided to pass through formal
channels this message to the top leaders in the U.S."

The Chinese army command document also noted that
recent U.S. combat experience cannot be compared to
a future war with the massive People's Liberation Army.
China is capable of massing millions of troops, and has
over 5,000 aircraft that can be thrown into a battle over
Taiwan. In addition, the Chinese military noted it had a
clear edge in fighting a tactical nuclear war with
American forces in the Pacific region.

"In terms of air defense," noted the Chinese army
document, "it is impossible for the U.S. Air Force to
enjoy the kind of dominance which they maintained in
  Iraq or Yugoslavia."

"It can be safely expected that once the U.S. launches
an attack, the front line of U.S. forces and their
supporting bases will be exposed within the range of our
effective strikes. After the first strategic strike, the U.S.
forces will be faced with weaponry and logistic
problems, providing us with opportunities for major
  offensives and win large battles."

According to the Chinese military, "Unlike Iraq and
Yugoslavia, China is not only a big country, but also
possesses a nuclear arsenal that has long since been
incorporated into state warfare system and play a real
  role in our national defense."

"During the last crisis across the Taiwan Straits, the U.S.
tried to blackmail us with their aircraft carrier(s), but

New White House Phone Records Could Expose Foster Case Cover-up

Could documentary evidence of a White House cover-up in the mysterious
1993 death of top Clinton aide Vince Foster be at hand?

Last month two congressional committees and Independent Counsel Robert
Ray reportedly launched new probes into possible White House wrondoing,
based on fresh testimony that an estimated 100,000 White House emails,
then subject to a subpoena, had been witheld from investigators.

According to an affidavit obtained by Judicial Watch from former manager
of White House computer operations, Sheryl Hall:

"A contractor for Northrop-Grumman assigned to the Clinton White House
who examined this group of 100,000 e-mails told me the documents
contained information relating to Filegate, concerning the Monica
Lewinsky scandal, the sale of Clinton Commerce Department trade mission
seats in exchange for campaign contributions and Vice President Al
Gore's involvement in campaign fundraising controversies."

  Hall also told Judicial Watch:

"I was told by this contractor that if the contents of these e-mails
became known, that there would be different outcomes to these scandals,
as the e-mails were incriminating and could cause people to go to jail."

So what does any of this have to do with Foster's death?

The discovery of the White House's long-lost e-mails was first reported
by Insight Magazine in December 1998. But along with this cache of
evidence, Insight also revealed that "thousands of pages of White House
telephone records" covering the period of January 1992 through December
  1998 had been found.

Although Insight didn't say so, this meant that evidence may exist to
prove the claims of two Arkansas state troopers, who say they were told
about Foster's death before police had informed even the White House --
perhaps even before his body was discovered.

Troopers Roger Perry and Larry Patterson, who were assigned to the
Arkansas governor's mansion the day Foster died, told investigators in
1995 that White House aide Helen Dickey called to report that Foster had
shot himself in the parking lot. Dickey's call, insist the lawmen, came
at least an hour before police notified the White House. Both Perry and
Patterson filed sworn affidavits to back their accounts.

But Ms. Dickey told Foster case probers she didn't make that call till
at least 10:30PM, more than four hours after the White House lawyer's
body had been found. Independent Counsel Ken Starr sided with Dickey,
mainly because he was unable to find proof of the troopers' account. His
report on Foster's death states simply: "Complete records for such calls
  are not available."

Congressman Dan Burton and Sen. Fred Thompson, both battle scarred
veterans of the Clinton scandal wars, promised to investigate the
Insight report in December 1998. But at the time Congress was distracted
by Clinton's Monicagate impeachment -- and the potential bombshell
  evidence disappeared between the cracks.

Now Insight reports that Burton and Thompson are once again interested
in the treasure trove of e-mail evidence in the wake of Hall's startling
  account to Judicial Watch.

What about those crucial phone records which could prove the White House
knew about Foster's death perhaps even before police? Insight's managing
editor Paul Rodriguez reported this week:

"Unlike the e-mails, to which the White House could delay access for
months by claiming they were insignificant or already turned over to
investigators, the discovery of the long-distance telephone records
cannot be obfusatedThe White House always maintained it had no
telephone records in its possession and could not obtain them from the
telephone companies because they routinely destroy such records every 90
  days or so."

With the discovery of the White House's secret telephone record
depository, that alibi is no longer operative.

When Troopers Perry and Patterson were invited to testify before the
Senate Whitewater Committee in February 1996, they urged investigators
to press the White House on telephone records for July 20, 1993; records
that would prove whether it was they -- or Helen Dickey -- who told the
truth about the timing of her Foster phone call. When senate
investigators failed to do so the troopers declined to testify, fearing
that in the absence of proof they would be smeared as disgruntled
  Clinton-haters.

Now that such proof may be at hand, it's a whole new ballgame -- that
is, if the Office of Independent Counsel and Congress are willing to
  re-examine this issue.

Reached by NewsMax.com on Friday, a spokesman for Independent Counsel
Robert Ray declined to comment on the prospect that new

Senator McCain's Criteria for Pork

http://www.senate.gov/~mccain/porkbar.htm

For ten years, Senator McCain has reviewed the annual appropriations
bills to determine whether they contain items that are low-priority,
unnecessary, or wasteful spending. In this process, he has used five
objective criteria to identify programs and projects that have not been
appropriately reviewed in the normal, merit-based prioritization process.
These criteria are:

--Unauthorized appropriations;

--Unrequested locality-specific earmarks, research facility-specific
earmarks, and other earmarks that would circumvent the normal
competitive award process;

--Budget add-ons that would be subject to a budget point of order;

--Transfer or disposal of federal property or items under terms that
circumvent existing law; and

--New items added in conference that were never considered in either bill
in either House.

Senator McCain's criteria are not intended to reflect a judgment on the
merits of an item. They are designed to identify projects that have not been
considered in an appropriate, merit-based prioritization process.

FARMERS FIGHT 50,000 ACRE
FEDERAL LAND GRAB

12 year old testifies before Senate;
tries to save her family's home
By Matthew Mittan, The Asheville Tribune

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service has announced it's desire to
create a fifty-three thousand acre wildlife refuge, much to the chagrin of
local residents. Federal officials have targeted, for their refuge, some of
the best farmland in the United States, land that has been farmed by some of
the same families for two hundred years.

Residents opposed to the federal land designation say that the proposed
refuge would dispossess hundreds of families and transform a productive
agricultural economy into a non-productive service economy.

The people of Madison and Union counties in Ohio are overwhelmingly opposed
to the proposal. But that has not slowed the federal agencies from pursuing
the land.

Due to that fact, two local grassroots groups, Stewards of the Darby (SOD)
and Citizens Against Refuge Proposal (CARP) are at the forefront of the land
rights battle. Through these groups, local residents drafted a Declaration
entitled "Our Land Is Our Responsibility" which reads in part, "We, the
residents of the area publicized as the "Darby Prairie National Wildlife
Refuge Study Area" want our voices heard! We, who live and work in this
farming community, believe the impact to area businesses would jeopardize
their very existence. The Madison County Auditor's Office projects the
affected region generates $300 per acre, which turns over 6-7 times (in
buying power) before leaving the community. This translates into a potential
deficit of $90 million dollars to our area businesses.

"[Additionally,] United States Representative Ralph S. Regula asserts: 'It is
simply irresponsible to take on new land responsibilities, and give grants to
cities, States and private institutions, when we cannot afford to adequately
take care of our primary Federal responsibilities - the public lands.'

"The State Forest Department manages and protects 7.1 million acres of forest
land in Ohio, for the benefit of all Ohio citizens. One hundred eighty one
thousand acres of State-owned forest land are available for multiple
benefits, including wildlife, recreation, timber products, and soil and water
protection. In addition, there are 72 State Parks in Ohio where the public
can interact with nature at its leisure. With this great abundance of parks
and wildlife areas, all supported by our tax dollars, is there really a need
for more public land?

"Actual area land auctions show that a 500-acre farm is worth $1.5 million
dollars. To this initial cost, add a reasonably priced home at a cost of
$85,000, and minimal equipment at approximately $641,000, and the combined
start-up cost totals $2.226 MILLION DOLLARS. After committing to an
investment of such magnitude, why would our astute, agriculturally- and
family-minded farmers want to sell?

"In the case of the proposed Darby Prairie National Wildlife Refuge, most of
the 53,692 acres is land that has been acquired by our farmers over many
generations. This "ownership endurance" enables us to continue our
conservation-accredited farming skills, thus growing with our investments. At
an average of 4.5 persons per home, this equates to the possible residential
displacement of over 7,500 people from the Study Area alone, with a loss of
approximately 4,000 taxpayers to the community. We have a proven track record

"With well over 50,000 acres lost to food production, how many non-farmers

PGA Action at WTO Seattle - http://members.aol.com/pgacaravan

Here finally seems to be some solid information on the toxic elements
of the tear gas used in Seattle. It is OUTRAGEOUS, but not
surprising, given the early symptoms that were coming in from the
medical staff at the time. While the police had admitted to OC
and CS gas before, this was not the case with the CN gas, containing
methylene chloride.

Appended is the technical information on methylene chloride. Note
under the last point in the second message, under point #5:
"PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMIT (PEL): MG/M3 (500 PPM)" means that
the permissible limit is 0.

This should keep a bunch of them doing a whole mess of damage
control for a while.

But it also means a whole whack of us got hit with massive amounts
of deadly toxins in the chemical warfare that the state unleashed
on us in Seattle. And we will have to live with that posioning
for the rest of our lives. It was chemical warfare against internal
dissent using chemicals of mass destruction. Is this not a crime
against humanity? Was that not why the governments said they bombed
(and continue to silently bomb) Iraq? Cuz Iraq allegedly had weapons
of mass destruction (ie nerve gas). Well, not only does the USA
government have such weapons but it uses them AGAINST THEIR PEOPLE.
And it does so when its people are engaged in non-violent civil
disobedience.

Any lawyers out there who want to take this one as far as it'll

Surely we get to at least complain about them killing us! Never
mind dreaming about making them actually ACCOUNTABLE for these

Subject: Tear Gas additives identified by WA Toxics Coalition

This was just forwarded to me by the WA Toxics Coalition office in
Seattle.

Please share it widely with your lists. Thanks!

Paul Cienfuegos

The Washington Toxics Coalition recently requested and received
Material Safety Data Sheets from the Seattle Police Department for
all chemicals used in crowd control during WTO protests the week
of November 29.

The Department reported the use of an OC gas (active ingredient is
oleoresin of capsicum), Pyrotechnic CS agent
(o-chlorobenzalmalononitrile)
and Liquid Agent CN (chlorolactetophenone).

One disturbing find was the solvent used in the CN agent. The MSDS
indicated that the agent is 50% active ingredient and 50% methylene
chloride as a solvent. Methylene chloride is a possible/anticipated
carcinogen as reported by the National Toxicology Program and the
International Agency for Research on Cancer. The National Library
of Medicine's Toxnet website reports it to be an experimental
carcinogen, tumorigen, teratogen (causes birth defects when it
reaches egg or sperm cells of the parents, or the developing fetus)
with experimental reproductive effects. The site also indicates
that human mutagen (causes mutations in cells) data exists.

In addition to these serious effects, central nervous system
depression is reported. Many of the nervous system effects given
on the Toxnet site are similar to those experienced by protesters.
Some of the symptoms listed by Toxnet are lethargy, mental confusion,
headache, tingling of the limbs, acoustical and optical delusions,
liver and kidney damage, increased risk of spontaneous abortion,
coma, and death.

Another dangerous effect of methylene chloride is described in
Gosselin's Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products. The compound
is metabolized to carbon monoxide in humans, which could be dangerous
to persons with asthma or cardiovascular problems.

In short, methylene chloride is a dangerous solvent suspected of
causing cancer, tumor growth, birth defects, reproductive system
effects, cell mutations and central nervous system depression.

BELIEF AND MAKE-BELIEVE
by G. A. Wells

Why do so many people - sometimes even intelligent people - swallow
the
preposterous claims of religion? G.A. Wells, the leading freethinker
of
our time, tries to shed light on this puzzle in his entertaining and
enormously learned book, Belief and Make-Believe.

Professor Wells begins by analyzing the nature of belief. To dispel
popular confusions on the relation between words and thoughts, he
compares
the thinking processes of scientists, laymen, and chimpanzees.

The power of emotion and instinct to help form people's ideological
outlooks is analyzed by reference to "defiance" and "reliance", polar
attitudes which arise from the need for dominance and submission in
primate groups. Wells shows the influence of defiance and reliance
in patriotism and in monotheistic religions, where submission to the
will
of the omnipotent is a wonderful technique for feeling secure in the
face
of life's actual and ineradicable dangers.

Since all knowledgeable Christians now accept that the Bible is
uneven,
unreliable, and sometimes morally abhorrent, and that the New
Testament
account of the origin of Christianity is mostly legend, various
attempts
have been made to save something from the debris by selective
re-interpretation. Wells evaluates several typical examples, showing
how
the apologists shrink from the clear implications of their arguments,
which
would demolish the whole edifice of Christian doctrine.

Finally, Professor Wells debunks some of the extravagant and
mystical
claims that have been made for the arts, notably poetry, as
quasi-religious
vehicles for gaining insights into the human condition.

George Wells is professor emeritus of German in the
University of London. Re is a leading authority on both
German intellectual history and the origins of Christiani-
ty. His books include Goethe and the Development of
Science, The Origin of language, Religious Postures, and

 Everyone
believes in something. You must believe in gravity, and believe in it
blindly... because it can only be understood in theory.

Ridiculous. There are NO CONSEQUENCES to believing or not believing in
gravity. Belief is irrelevant because it is real and operates upon us
whether we know it exists or not. God, on the other hand has no
existence
outside the " belief " of humans. It is ONLY through belief that god
exists.

 It cannot be
physically examined, but it certainly can be experienced, and I'm sure you
"believe" in it's reality and its effects. :)

Don't knock it, 'til you try it, honey...
For example, If you want to believe that the moon is made of green
cheese... and is served best with ranch dressing, and if you also believe
you've tasted it and experienced it... and you think it's the greatest
thing since sliced bread, it would be impossible to talk logic with you
 either.

You got that right. And what you are describing here is a form of
insanity
based on an aversion to reality for whatever reason.
Usually simple cowardice.

People who believe the Bible was written by God, and those whom you call
impossible to talk logic, more than likely have had a life changing
experience that has convinced them that the Bible is true.

There is no brainwashing or mind control. It's called FAITH. A very
 healthy human attribute.

WOW!
What a whopper! Faith ONLY exists through brainwashing and mind
control.
ONLY!
Faith is nothing more than self delusion. There is nothing healthy
about it.
Not only does faith cause you to believe in the utterly ridiculous,
like
biologically impossible virgin births and even more absurd
resurrections from
the dead, it makes the believer a carrier of mental illness which is
passed to
large numbers of people orally.

It then spreads to entire populations and induces mass insanity where
even
the same ethnic groups start killing each other over religiously
induced hal-
ucinations. One need merely cite Ireland, Yugoslavia, Nigeria, and
Sudan.

Sounds to me that you've just found something in life and the social culture
to disagree with and you just want to thump the thumpers. (I actually
don't blame you to some degree)... But, If you haven't experienced it,
you cannot logically judge someone who claims to have experienced it. One
 cancels the other.

INSIGHT Website EXCLUSIVE:

CHINA WAR PLAN AGAINST TAIWAN AND U.S.
3/3/00 - By J. Michael Waller

The People’s Republic of China is actively planning a military
invasion of Taiwan and is preparing to wage war against the
United States — including firing its small arsenal of strategic
nuclear missiles on the territory of the United States — if
Washington attempts to defend the island. In an internal document
from the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Military Commission to
all its regional commanders, Beijing says it hopes to absorb
Taiwan through nonviolent means but warns of an “increased
possibility for a military solution,” arguing: “It is better to
fight now than [in the] future — the earlier, the better.”

In the document, (see "China Prepares for War") Beijing envisions
a blitzkrieg-like attack on Taiwan, launching a “first fatal
strike” so that “the Taiwan forces have no way to organize
effective resistance.” Under this plan, “we will be able to
control Taiwan before the U.S. intervention and then concentrate
our forces to fight the U.S.”

The paper, distributed to commanders in August 1999, urges
military leaders to “be well prepared for war” with Taiwan and,
if necessary, the United States, following Taiwan President Lee
Teng-hui’s “two-country theory,” in which the Republic of China
on Taiwan would seek independent statehood. The Communist Chinese
leadership views Lee’s position as a threat to the territorial
integrity of the People’s Republic and argues that if allowed to
stand would promote mainland China’s disintegration by
encouraging independence for Tibet and other occupied areas. The
paper says that large-scale coastal and inland military exercises
planned for Sept. 1999 were intended not only to intimidate
Taiwan but “to adapt our armed forces to cross-the-Straits
operations.”

Beijing anticipates the passive support of Russia in a Taiwan
invasion. A summit between Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Russian
President Boris Yeltsin and others in Kazakhstan that same month
was intended on Beijing’s part to help reduce “the traditional
pressure along our northeast and northwest borders, and increase
the proportion of forces which can be moved to the southeast
coastal regions,” as well as to keep open “land routes during the
war … in case we are forced to fight a full-scale war against the
U.S.”

Insight has obtained a copy of this startling document, which has
been translated into English. (Click here to read the full
document.) The purpose of the document is to make “high-ranking
commanders in non-combat as well as combat positions … well aware
of the following issues so as to better understand the strategic
decisions made by the Party’s Central Committee and be
well-prepared for the war in their units based on the
rapidly-changing relationships with Taiwan.”

The document tells commanders to understand the party’s thinking
behind its preparations and “a wave of politically-oriented
military exercises” intended “to raise the political
consciousness of all commanders and soldiers up to a level
required by war.”

Peaceful reunification with Taiwan, according to the Central
Military Commission paper, “is still the best option” for
Beijing’s long-term interests, as military options would be
disruptive of the Party’s economic development goals. The
document says it is very unlikely that European countries would
aid in Taiwan’s defense, but anticipates that the U.S. would
attempt to defend against an attack. Therefore, prior to an
invasion of Taiwan, “we must take into account the above
[diplomatic] factors and use diplomatic leverage to minimize
international resistance.”

Beijing’s crackdown on the Falun Gong spiritual group, the
document says, was aimed at crushing separatist sentiment. “To
outlaw ‘Falun Gong’ was a preemptive measure aimed at the
ultimate resolution of [the] Taiwan issue,” according to the
document, “not only eliminating domestic trouble, but paving the
way for reunification as well.” The Party leaders seem pleased
with the weakness of international protests: “Negative
international reaction has proven to be limited, and the protest
from the U.S. was particularly pale and powerless, fully
demonstrating that our Party has the ability and courage to gain
advantage in complicated domestic and international struggles.”

Senior Chinese military officials, the document says, disclosed
“some information on strategic weaponry so that the U.S. will
exercise some caution in decision-making and be aware that it
would have to pay a price if it decided to intervene in a
military conflict. The purpose is to prevent the U.S. from being
deeply involved even if a war

Study: Gun training (not gun bans) can help reduce tragic child
violence

WASHINGTON, DC -- The shooting of a Michigan 6-year-old
may focus renewed attention on a federal study with an
unconventional conclusion: Giving kids more access to guns may
actually help reduce such tragic incidents in the future, the
Libertarian Party said today.

"Instead of using the death of Kayla Rolland as an excuse
to impose more gun control, politicians like Bill Clinton should
read this study -- since it demonstrates that children who are
taught by parents to use guns responsibly are far less likely to
commit crimes," said Steve Dasbach, the party's national
director.

"No, we can't say that this particular shooting could
have been prevented -- or that this troubled 6-year-old should
have been given a gun by his equally troubled parents. But what
we can say is that, in general, the most effective way to reduce
firearm-related violence among children is to buy them a gun and
teach them how to use it responsibly."

That surprising discovery is contained in a study by the
federal government entitled, "Urban Delinquency and Substance
Abuse," which was conducted from 1993-1995 by the U.S. Department
of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention.

In an effort to determine the relationship between
"problem behaviors" like drug use, teen pregnancy, and crime,
child psychologists tracked 4,000 boys and girls aged 6 to 15 in
Denver, Pittsburgh, and Rochester, NY.

The findings were a slap in the face to "conventional
wisdom" about children and guns, said Dasbach -- and a sharp
rebuke to Bill Clinton's renewed calls for mandatory trigger
locks and other gun control measures in the wake of Tuesday's
shooting in Mount Morris Township, Michigan.

According to the study:

* Children who get guns from their parents don't commit
gun crimes (0%), while children who get illegal guns are very
likely to do so (21%).

* Children who get guns from parents are less likely to
commit any kind of street crime (14%) than children who have no
gun in the house (24%) -- and are dramatically less likely to do
so than children who acquire an illegal gun (74%).

* Children who get guns from parents are less likely to
use drugs (13%) than children who get illegal guns (41%).

"Boys who own legal firearms have much lower rates of
delinquency and drug use [than boys who get illegal guns] and are
even slightly less delinquent than non-owners of guns," the study
reported.

"The evidence is in: When it comes to preventing youthful
violence, responsible parents and the Second Amendment apparently
work better than politicians' irresponsible proposals, such as
so-called smart-gun technology or mandated safety locks," said
Dasbach.

Are Libertarians saying that every parent should buy
their child a gun?

"Of course not," said Dasbach. "Deciding whether to give
your son or daughter a gun -- and teaching them how to use it --
is a serious decision that every parent will have to make. Many
parents will properly decide that their children are not mature
enough to learn how to use a gun safely. But the point is:
Responsible parents are better able to make that decision than a
bunch of irresponsible politicians in Washington, DC.

"Such an enlightened approach to gun ownership will not
bring Kayla Rolland back to life," Dasbach acknowledged. "But it
would make it less likely that another Kayla Rolland would die in
such a tragic and pointless incident. And that would be a step in
the right direction."

HARTFORD, Wis., March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Jews for the
Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) strongly denounced the
March 1 statement issued by the American Jewish Congress (AJC)
which called for more federal victim disarmament laws. The AJC's
statement, responding to the Feb. 29 Michigan grade school
killing, demanded "tough gun control legislation" as the remedy.
Speaking for JPFO, Aaron Zelman called the AJC's demand an
example of "ghetto Jew mentality."

"Turning to a secular central government to solve a parenting
problem shows how morally bankrupt the AJC position is," said
Zelman, JPFO's executive director. "Judaism is about timeless
moral values and strong family structures -- not about calling in
the federal government every time somebody commits a crime."

"By agitating for more victim disarmament laws, the AJC works
against Jewish values. Jews, like everyone else, have a duty to
protect and defend themselves and their families against
violence," Zelman noted. "Turning to a non-Jewish secular
government to save everyone from crime violates Jewish principles
-- it's making the state your god."

Zelman challenged the AJC to affirm traditional values and
morals. "I don't see the AJC actively working to preserve the
Jewish principles of fundamental respect for human life,
punishment of wrongdoers, and clear moral training of children.
The AJC wants the federal government to prevent honest citizens
from having the tools for self-protection, yet the AJC does
nothing to knit the social fabric around God's laws."

Anticipating a flurry of calls for victim disarmament laws,
Zelman criticized the lobbyists who "advance the political agenda
called 'gun control' on the bodies of dead children." He also
noted that the Mount Morris grade school tragedy would get
national media attention, while the thousands of cases of
children being protected by armed defenders go unreported.
"According to Florida State University Professor Gary Kleck's
research, firearms are used to prevent crime nearly 2 million
times per year. Firearms misuse is comparatively rare but grabs
the headlines," Zelman said.

With the AJC's advocating more federal victim disarmament, Zelman
observed that "the AJC ignores both Jewish morality and the
importance of armed self-defense. Historically, that combination
has been lethal for Jews. The AJC certainly demolishes the image
that Jews are smart."

NATIONAL SECURITY = LOST RIGHTS

3-5-00
Author: Doug Fiedor

NATIONAL SECURITY = LOST RIGHTS

As long term readers of this publication know, the National
Security Agency has been bugging our communications for nearly
fifty years. Lately, in the computer/satellite age, they have
gotten so good at it they can monitor everything and anything
they goes by wire or is transmitted via radio waves -- even your
home wireless baby monitors and the kid's walkie-talkies.

NSA is Maryland's largest employer, with well over 30,000
employees. But, only part of their system is there. The network
includes 120 satellites and stations located in a number of
different countries around the world. According to reports, such
as those presented in the European Parliament, Echelon works with
its counterpart agencies in England, Canada, Australia, and New
Zealand. It also has many other listening stations. Most
interesting to us in the United States are the large ones in
Canada and Mexico. Because, these "system" partner governments
then monitor each other's traffic to circumvent laws prohibiting
governments from spying on their own citizens.

That's right. Our personal communications are being spied on by
the governments of Canada and Mexico, and to a lesser extent by
the governments of England, Australia and New Zealand. These
governments then pipe the information to NSA headquarters in
Maryland for analysis and dissemination to other federal
agencies.

Oh sure, NSA's defenders say it strictly adheres to the 1978
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which prohibits an agency
from deliberately eavesdropping on American citizens, either in
the U.S. or overseas. They're supposed to have probable cause and
to get a search warrant to do that legally. So, they have agents
of a foreign government commit the domestic espionage for them.
That gives them plausible denial and they can then report to
Congress that they do not illegally spy on American citizens.

That's the story that's leaked out, anyway. Officially, they will
not even admit that the Echelon program exists. Congress cannot
get any information.

However, remember the Senate hearings on communist Chinese
campaign money laundering? Therein, it came out that workers in
the Chinese Embassy in Washington were overheard discussing the
illegal funds from the Chinese government. Communist China was
laundering illegal money into Congressional campaign funds and
some Members of Congress had taken the money. NSA passed the
information on to the FBI, and the FBI warned the Members of
Congress who were accepting the dirty money. Then, for the most
part, it was all hushed up. The Congress critters were not
charged with any wrongdoing because the government did not want
to expose its means of collecting the information.

Generally, that is about as much as recent news accounts are
telling us. There is, of course, a lot more to this story. Many
in the European Community are a bit upset with our spying
techniques. The Clinton administration said that the spook shops
will start doing business spying, and so they have.

A few months ago, London's "Electronic Telegraph" reported that
U.S. spy satellites are stealing the secrets of German
businesses. Security experts in Germany have uncovered evidence
of a big American industrial espionage operation in Europe using
satellite listening posts in both Britain and Germany.

"German business is thought to suffer annual losses of at least
£7 billion through stolen inventions and development projects.
With Europe already locked in a trade war with its American ally
over bananas, Germany's high-tech industry wants its government
to back a counter- offensive.

The main centers used for satellite tapping of millions
of confidential company telephone calls, fax and
e-mail messages are believed to be terrestrial listening
posts run by the American National Security Agency
(NSA) at Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, North
Yorkshire, and Bad Aibling, Bavaria, with the backing
of the American government."

Industrial espionage is becoming increasingly
aggressive. Secrets are being siphoned off to an extent
never experienced until now,

said Horst Teltschik, a senior BMW board member and a former
security adviser to Helmut Kohl. He is currently trying to
coordinate a German business response to the spying problem, the
Telegraph reported.

To make things easier for the spooks, they wrote a back door into
the popular Lotus Notes business software. The Swedish government
found it. Rumors are that Microsoft was also talked into adding
bugging channels in the new Windows software.

Anyway, when the European Union first learned of Echelon a few
years ago, they became a bit upset and called on our government
to explain. Washington sent over a few representatives from our
FBI and spook agencies and they "talked." Well,

Manufacturing Desire
by Harry Flood

Welcome to the factory floor. The product? Things that are not
essential, but hard to live without. What's being supplied here
is demand. Want. Craving. All you could desire. All you can imagine.
Maybe more than you can handle.

"WHY IS THIS CHILD SMILING?" asks a recent print ad of a cute tot
blissfully snoozing. "Because he has lived his whole life in the
biggest
bull market in history." Cue the smug nods, the flush of pride. For
here, swaddled in Baby Gap and lying in a Morigeau crib, is the
immaculate American kid, born in the best damn place and time there
has ever been. A child wanting for nothing.

He will soon learn, of course, to want everything.

Americans are beyond apologizing for their lifestyle of scorched-earth
consumerism. To the strange little cabal of moralists -- Robert Frank,
Jedediah Purdy et al. -- who have recently questioned the official
program, the response has mostly been to crank up the volume and
drown the doubt out. Global consumer culture? Supersize it, baby.
Pile on the wattage, horsepower, silicone, cholesterol and RAM until
the lights flicker, the smoke-alarms shriek and the cardiac paddles
lurch to life. Give us marbled steaks and sport-utes, please, and put
it all on our tab -- we're good for it. Because we are working dogs.
And we have worked out the formula for millennial prosperity:
keep your head down and your wallet open, and watch the economy
roll. Enjoy the rollicking good times while building "the America we
deserve."

Time was, decadence on this scale was something to fear. If one
group of people was gobbling up resources out of all proportion to its
needs, consuming at thirty times the rate of other groups of people,
at everyone's expense, well . . . that was bad karma, to say the
least.
Their society was surely soft, cancerous and doomed.

But somehow, the First World has managed to give it all a happy spin.
We have decided not to avoid decadence but to embrace it. Crave it.
Buy it. Sell it. What's decadent? Ice cream with the density of
plutonium,
a bubblebath with a barley-flour chaser, that great new Gucci scent
called "Envy." Decadence is just the celebration of universal human
appetites, fully expressed -- and any premium wiener who'd object
to that idea must already be half-dead.

There's no mistaking contemporary America for Versailles-era France or
Rome in the time of the Caesars. Decadence has grown up, grown cool,
grown systematic in its excess. It's an indoor trout stream in the
tasteful
lakeside mansion of a software magnate. It's leasing, rather than
owning, a
fine German automobile so you can exchange it for a new one in ten
months.
You don't see the new deci-billionnaires of Silicon Valley splashing
their
wealth around wantonly, like the '80s Wall Street crowd. What you see
is
specific, laser-guided generosity -- like cutting friends and
relatives into
the IPO, or buying a tax-deductible painting by your boss' kid.
Keeping
the money in the family. The woman most recently canonized by the
American media was a personal shopper, by trade. (It was said Carolyn
Bessette Kennedy, whose job was to purchase things for other people
too wealthy or time-pressed to purchase things for themselves,
personified
elegance, refinement and understatement.) The new design aesthetic,
as seen in Wallpaper magazine, is sexily minimalist, with high design
and
hyperattention to every detail. Labor-intensive and expensive as hell,
but
worth it.

See how much we've grown up? Can you understand now why the rest
of the world has its nose to the glass, wanting a piece of this?

Perhaps decadence isn't a thing but a behavior -- some gesture just
arrogant and shameless enough to be Bad (read, good). An American
golf fan, swept up by jingoism, spits on a rival golfer's wife at a
prestigious international tournament. A real-estate mogul erects a
great middle-finger of an apartment building shadowing the United
Nations.
The most powerful man in the world proves he is pathologically unable
to apologize.

Or maybe decadence goes deeper than a behavior, as deep as the
emotion that hatched it. The Motion Picture Association of America
fixes an R rating on films that include profanity, nudity, sex,
violence
or "decadent situations." So understanding decadence may simply
involve renting a few saucy blockbuster action pictures and monitoring
the responses they provoke. As the beloved stars appear on the screen,
predictable thoughts materialize in the primitive hindbrain of the
viewer:
I want your hair. I want your money. I want to see you naked on the
Internet.

The book was written by Christine Negroni, the CNN reporter

renounce the Navy-missile theory on camera for CNN. They
wanted to fly a video crew down from New York to Maryland
to record my renunciation of the Navy-missile theory, which
I informed her I was inclined to do since I was afraid that
the media would destroy me or someone would be gunning for
me unless I decisively renounced the Navy-missile theory.
While I wasn't laughing, she said a death threat against
me merely displayed a "wicked sense of humor." I refused
to do an on-camera interview and said I don't think this
is newsworthy. I eventually agreed to write a statement.

Christine Negroni also called Pierre Salinger hoping to
arrange a joint renunciation. While in an act of self-
preservation Salinger said he would stop talking about
the Navy-missile theory, unlike myself, Salinger had the
courage and experience with the media not allow himself
to be intimidated into renouncing his beliefs, and thus
he refused to be involved with CNN's scheme. I have yet

Deadly Departure - Why the Experts Failed to Prevent the
TWA Flight 800 Disaster and How it Could Happen Again

Christine Negroni / Cliff Street Books 2000

  Reviewed February 2000 @ twa800.webjump.com

Serious observers of the TWA Flight 800 disaster should
contumeliously dismiss Ms. Negroni's book. The author's
understanding of this complex subject is so manifestly
superficial that one presumes she is blissfully unaware
of just how execrable this book is. Surely she does not
realize the extent to which her work is at times offensive,
  defamatory and factually misleading.

Offensive? Her ham-handed attempts to reconstruct the
thoughts and actions of the flight crew after the initial
explosion are in questionable taste. Worse, she cites
the names of individual passengers and describes their
injuries in gruesome detail. Apparently the author
believes public understanding of this event is somehow
furthered by revealing by name which individuals were
"torn to pieces" and of whom only "bones were recovered."

Defamatory? Consider Ivor Thomas. Mr. Thomas is considered
one of the world's foremost authorities on aviation fuel
systems with over forty years in the airplane industry. As
a Boeing employee and a participant in the NTSB investigation
into TWA 800, Thomas has devoted his career to enhancing fuel
system safety. After the public hearings, Thomas left Boeing
to continue this work at the FAA. Negroni smears his integrity
  as follows:

"Thomas had disregarded the need for fuel system explosion
protection mechanisms from the time he arrived on Boeing
property in 1966. Now he would be the person air safety
regulators turned to for guidance."

Consider Linda Kunz. Kunz photographically documented
irregularities with the NTSB procedures for tagging wreckage
to identify which debris zone it was found in. As a TWA
representative and authorized party to the NTSB investigation,
Kunz forwarded these photographs to her superiors in order
to generate corrective action. Negroni describes this action
as being "in violation of the FBI rules at the hangar" and
says that Kunz "very nearly got TWA kicked off the investigation."
Negroni fails to examine why "FBI rules" were in effect in the
hangar or how Ms. Kunz's action should be construed as misconduct.

Consider the aviation industry as a whole. Negroni's central
thesis is difficult to identify since the book is constructed
in random fashion, chaotically veering from topic to topic
without regard to chronology or coherence. However, it seems
to be that "the experts", i.e. the airplane manufacturers,
the airlines and the government regulatory agencies have long
been engaged in a "conspiracy of inaction" with regard to the
supposed hazards of fuel tank explosions. She presents the
rejection of fuel tank inerting systems on commercial
airliners not as an engineering decision, but as a mercenary
  gamble with safety.

Factually misleading? Negroni posted the following comment
  to amazon.com:

expensive crash investigation ever conducted and the only

Title: PETROLEUM: OPEC Meeting to Decide Fate of Soaring Prices

By Luis C¢rdova

CARACAS, Mar 2 (IPS) - Rising oil prices, currently nudging 30
dollars per barrel, convinced the world's three largest producers
Thursday to increase the supply on the international market in
order to keep prices in check, but anxiety about the future
direction of prices will go on for another 25 days, until OPEC
delegates meet in Vienna.

''There is consensus on the need to increase production this
year,'' commented Venezuela's Energy minister, Al¡ Rodr¡guez, as
he left a crucial meeting with his colleagues Luis T‚llez, from
Mexico, and Al¡ Naimi, from Saudi Arabia. The three met Thursday
in London to assess the impacts of the current high oil prices.

But Rodr¡guez, calling from London, confirmed on a Caracas radio
programme that the world must wait until the Organisation of
Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meets before it will know how
much the crude supply will be expanded and when this additional
quantity will make its way to the market.

Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Venezuela are seen as the authors of the
OPEC agreement to restrict petroleum production, which led to the
ongoing price increases that began in March 1999 after the price
per barrel hit its lowest point in two decades.
   **
[These three countries are American puppet states. Particularly
Oil puppet states. If the price of oil goes up, it is not an act
of god. They are gouging the most dependent users of petroleum
while we still have money in our pockets.

Bill Richardson, the US Secretary of energy, gave the ok to raise
oil prices. Free market my ass. When capitalists control vital
commodities, we are at the mercy of the merciless. --J2]

''The commitment we made was to stabilise the market,'' stated
Rodr¡guez, who will now initiate a series of talks with other OPEC
ministers. Venezuela and Saudi Arabia are founding members of the
cartel, and worked with Mexico and Norway to push for last year's
price recovery.

On the agenda for the OPEC conference is the decision on whether
the member nations will moderate or deactivate their strategy of
oil production quotas, or extend the restrictions on the world
supply for a time longer.

When the strategy was decided last March, oil prices had suffered
an important decline throughout the previous year, which had
serious negative impacts on the economies of the petroleum
exporting nations.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI), a US-produced light crude, sold at
12.97 dollars per barrel during the first quarter of 1999, and in
the last two weeks reached 30 dollars. According to international
reports, it has surged beyond that watermark in recent days.

For the North Sea Brent oil company, the 11.24 dollar average
barrel price during 1999's first quarter reached more than 27
dollars this week. OPEC saw its oil prices jump from 11 dollars a
year ago to 26.7 per barrel by Feb 27, according to Venezuela's
Energy Ministry.

The strong upswing in prices during the year made the price issue
a problem for oil importing countries. Several weeks ago, the
United States began to insist on the need for measures to moderate
petroleum prices.

The three countries that met Thursday in London, and other oil
producing nations such as Norway and Kuwait, were contacted by the
US Energy Secretary, Bill Richardson, and the parties backed the
general principle that they must work to ensure the stability of
the world oil market.

''The ministers agreed that an adequate supply of petroleum at
reasonable prices is of crucial importance,'' stated the official
communique emitted in Venezuela following the Rodr¡guez-Richardson
meeting Tuesday in the British capital.

The Venezuelan official underscored the need to prevent market
volatility and repeatedly stated it would be necessary to
implement corrective measures if the prices go above 30 dollars
per barrel.

But he has also stated that this South American nation continues
to back OPEC decisions and awaits the organisation's decision to
be made March 27.

The Saudi minister Naimi agreed with the need to stabilise the
market, but only if it is done within the framework established by
OPEC.

The OPEC meeting later this month promises to be turbulent,
despite the flexible attitude of some of its members, such as
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Venezuela. Others, including Iran and
Algeria, have indicated they favour extending the quota strategy
until mid-year, saying they expect a seasonal drop in demand.

According to data evaluated by Venezuelan analysts, the current
world demand - 77 million barrels of oil per day - is met with a
supply of 75 million barrels, which leaves a deficit of two
million barrels daily.

[CTRL] N.Y. Times Endorses Gore, McCain in Primary

N.Y. Times Endorses Gore, McCain in Primary

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) and
Arizona Sen. John McCain (news - web sites) were endorsed on Sunday
by the New York Times in the upcoming New York State primary on Super
Tuesday, March 7.

In its editorial, the Times pointed out that it had not endorsed any candidate
in the presidential primaries since 1962.

In choosing McCain over Texas Gov. George W. Bush (news - web sites),
the Times said it felt that Bush had ``embraced a punitive hard-right
agenda ... and made himself an instrument'' of his party's Congressional
leaders.

The newspaper said Sen. McCain of Arizona ``would not have to be
repackaged and repositioned when it comes to outreach and reform.

``He has a proven ability to get votes from the vital center of the American
spectrum,'' the editorial says.

The Times also noted that McCain vowed to break the ``iron triangle'' of
donations, lobbyists and legislation.

The paper said one of its reasons in not endorsing former New Jersey
Senator Bill Bradley (news - web sites) was that he ``possesses an even
more disturbing inability to convey a real hunger for the opportunity to
serve.''

But in choosing Gore, the Times said that while there was plenty to criticize
in his style and substance, the Vice President ``brings tremendous gifts to
his quest for the White House.''

The newspaper said that Gore had ``a passion to lead, a determination to
leave a positive mark on history and a burning desire to step out of his
mentor's shadow and prove that he possesses the self-control and
presidential high-mindedness so lacking in Mr. Clinton.''

The paper also gave Gore high marks on foreign policy, saying the Vice
President ``is clearly the best prepared candidate in this race. He is also
his party's strongest leader on environmental protection and scientific
progress.''

The Times said that Sunday's primary endorsements of McCain and Gore
applied only to the primary race and that the newspaper would make a final
presidential endorsement late in the campaign for the November general
election.

House Members Urge US to Quit WTO

By MARTIN CRUTSINGER AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - A group of conservative House members promised
Friday to introduce legislation demanding that the United States quit the
World Trade Organization. The move will force the full House to take up a
second contentious trade issue this year.

The effort, being led by Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, guarantees a vote within 90
days on withdrawing from the WTO, the Geneva-based organization that has
become a lightning rod for opponents of globalization.

Under the 1994 legislation that authorized U.S. membership in the newly
created WTO, Congress required the administration to submit a progress
report after five years of WTO membership about the costs and benefits to
the U.S. economy.

Upon receipt of that report, which the administration submitted Thursday,
any member of Congress can file a joint resolution demanding that the
United States withdraw its membership.

To ensure that the issue cannot be bottled up in committee, the 1994 law
required a vote within 90 days by the full House or Senate, depending on
where the withdrawal measure was introduced.

That means the Clinton administration will be forced to defend U.S.
membership in the WTO at the same time it is seeking votes to grant China
permanent normal trade relations with the United States as part of China's
WTO membership bid.

Republican leaders, who expected WTO opponents in the House to file a
withdrawal resolution, have indicated a vote on the issue will occur before
the
House takes up the administration's China request.

In a statement, Paul, a longtime foe of the WTO, said he submitted the
resolution because the WTO ``is an egregious attack upon our national
sovereignty, and this is the reason why we must vigorously oppose it.''

Other opponents of the WTO make similar claims. Organized labor,
environmental organizations and consumer groups brought thousands of
demonstrators to the streets of Seattle last December for protests against
what the groups see as the WTO's unbalanced emphasis on breaking down
trade barriers no matter what the cost to workers' rights and environmental
protections.

These groups have not indicated they will be backing the Paul effort,
however, because of worries that it would detract from what they view as the
real trade fight in Congress this year, the administration's request to end
the
annual reviews of China's trade status with the United States.

``Scheduling this vote before the China vote will be an effort to demonstrate
some sort of support for free trade. But obviously, the big fight this year
is
going to be on China and not pulling out of the WTO,'' said Patrick Woodall,
a spokesman for Public Citizen Global Trade Watch, a leading opponent of
the WTO.

The administration concluded in its report to Congress, released Friday in
its
full printed version, that WTO membership has been overwhelmingly
beneficial to the United States. Benefits came, it said, both through tariff
reductions being implemented as part of the last round of global trade talks
and through the WTO's binding dispute-resolution procedures.

While the United States has won a number of cases before the WTO, it lost
its biggest case so far just last week when the WTO ruled that a billion
annual tax break for American exporters violates global trade rules.

Paul said the loss of the tax case underscored the arguments he and other
opponents are making that the United States has handed over to an
international tribunal its ability to make tax law.

The administration's review of the impact of WTO membership on the U.S.
economy was only part of a 310-page report the administration issues every
year assessing recent trade developments and laying out its trade agenda for
the coming year.

WTO critics called the administration's assessment a whitewash that
glossed over the 135-nation organization's major flaws.

In addition to Paul, other House members who have signed on as sponsors
of the withdrawal resolution are Reps. John Duncan Jr., R-Tenn.; Dana
Rohrabacher, R-Calif.; Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.; Jack Metcalf, R-Wash.; and
Gene Taylor, D-Miss.

Bush, McCain escalate battle in weekend vote scramble

By GLEN JOHNSON

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (March 4, 2000 7:50 p.m. EST
http://www.nandotimes.com) - The Republican presidential contenders
escalated their battle for Super Tuesday votes Saturday, with George W.
Bush charging that John McCain has "clouded" education views Saturday,
and McCain demanding "Where's the outrage?" over a late surge of money
to pay for negative TV ads.

McCain's question mimicked a line from the presidential campaign of
former Sen. Bob Dole, the 1996 Republican nominee and a close friend of
McCain.

In the weekend before Tuesday's 13-state cluster of primaries and
caucuses, Bush, the governor of Texas, campaigned in New York while
McCain, a senator from Arizona, started his day in New England.

The 613 delegates up for grabs Tuesday represent about two thirds of the
1,034 needed to win the nomination at the Republican National Convention
this summer in Philadelphia. Heading into this week's voting, Bush had won
170 delegates and McCain 105. Alan Keyes, a radio talk-show host and
the only other candidate remaining in the race, has 5, with 12 delegates
officially uncommitted.

Accompanied by Gov. George Pataki of New York, a host of New York
congressmen and the chairman of the New York Republican Party, Bush
spoke about education policy as he visited Rochester and Binghamton in a
quest for the state's 101 convention delegates. That bounty is second only
to the 162 at stake in California, where Bush leads McCain among
Republicans.

McCain started his day in Boston before flying to an event in Portland,
Maine, and later stops in Syracuse and Rochester, N.Y. Polls show McCain
leading in the five New England states that vote Tuesday, and a very close
race looming in New York.

Pataki, a two-term governor and a product of New York's formidable
Republican machine, has put his organization - and his political capital -
behind the candidacy of Bush, an effort made unsuccessfully by Gov. John
Engler of Michigan two weeks ago.

"Pataki has a real risk of being Englerized," said Nelson Warfield, a
Republican operative who helped run Bob Dole's 1996 presidential
campaign and who knows New York politics well. "If he is seen as losing
his state for Bush, that hurts him."

Pataki rejected the notion, saying: "Next Tuesday's a referendum on
George Bush and John McCain."

In fact, Pataki has had trouble keeping the New York troops in line, with
Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari and U.S. Rep. Peter King
switching to McCain from the Bush camp.

New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who has endorsed Bush, went
public with his refusal to join a Pataki-led effort to attack McCain's
legislative record as "anti-New York."

Bush later traveled to Hartford, Conn., where he was greeted by three
governors - John Rowland of Connecticut, Paul Cellucci of Massachusetts
and Christie Todd Whitman of New Jersey.

Whitman, who was not among the majority of GOP governors who had
already endorsed Bush, did so at the governor's Hartford event. Whitman
withheld an earlier endorsement because Steve Forbes, a financial
publisher from New Jersey, had been campaigning for the nomination.

"We know he can get the job done," Whitman said. "We need somebody
who will unite us through our strength, not divide us because of our
differences."

McCain aides also have their eye on California, where he's been 20 points
behind among Republicans in the polls. They concede the senator must
make a strong showing - at least in the overall vote - to keep his candidacy
viable. Any California voter can cast a ballot in the Republican primary, but
only votes from Republicans will count in assigning delegates.

"I don't know if it's decisive or not. I know it's a critical period," McCain said
of Tuesday's vote.

Echoing the theme of a new campaign ad airing in New York and
California, Bush charged that McCain offered a "clouded vision" on
education policy when asked during a debate Thursday night.

Bush is starting to air a radio ad this weekend in downstate New York and
"targeted markets" in California strongly criticizing McCain's position on
education and praising Bush's as "remarkable for its conservatism."

In New York, the education ad will run concurrently with a controversial ad
that accused McCain of being opposed to breast cancer research

"They know know no depths," McCain said of the latest Bush ad. "There's
no shame associated with the (Bush) campaign."

The Bush campaign has been running the breast-cancer ad arguing that
McCain voted against research on the disease, while McCain says he has
repeatedly voted to boost breast-cancer research spending. The vote cited
in the Bush ad was one where McCain opposed putting breast-cancer
money in a military-spending measure.

The senator's campaign staff called a news conference Saturday in
Southern
