Jackson Returning to Public Life

by SONYA ROSS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Saturday he will return to
the civil rights stage next week, reversing plans to leave public life to
reconcile with his family, devastated by his extramarital affair that
resulted in the birth of a daughter.

''The ground is no place for a champion,'' Jackson said. ''The ground is no
place that I will wallow on.''

In an interview with The Associated Press -- his first since news about his
affair broke last week -- Jackson said he has spent the past few days at
home in Chicago with his family, doing ''lots of thinking, lots of praying,
reflecting'' about his predicament.

Much of the time, he has done this reflection alone, he said, but a lot of
it has been with his wife of 38 years, Jackie, and their five children,
focusing on ''what we must do to continue to serve.'' It has helped to
strengthen their family bond, he said, and made him feel empowered enough to
resume his work.

''While my family has wrestled with our options and challenges, we have a
rhythm of the family reconciling process, which is way down the road, two
years for us,'' Jackson said. ''We will not sacrifice our agenda for social
justice and inclusion. ... I'll develop a rhythm that allows me to focus on
family and ... the (civil rights) battlefield.''

Jackson said he and his family will worship together at Salem Baptist Church
in Chicago on Sunday, and on Monday he will attend a luncheon in Chicago in
his honor. But he doesn't plan to speak publicly until midweek, at an annual
economic conference that his organization, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, hosts
in New York.

Sounding both determined and fatigued, Jackson would not talk about his
youngest child, now 20 months old, or her mother, former aide Karin
Stanford, 39. ''I will not discuss that any further, any more,'' he said.

But Jackson did question whether news reports about the matter were timed to
thwart him from his varied civil rights causes, such as leading the
opposition against the nomination of John Ashcroft for attorney general.

To illustrate his point, Jackson noted that Martin Luther King Jr. received
a note threatening to reveal King's affairs during the same week that King
was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. And, he said, President Bush
''called it strange and suspicious'' when news reports surfaced about an old
drunk driving charge at a crucial time in Bush's presidential campaign.

''A two-year-old story was made public,'' Jackson said. ''So, one can sense
that there may be some motivation. But ... I accept my responsibility. What
we must do here is put our focus not on my pain, but the people's agenda.

''Sometimes, leaders have to play with pain. I'm feeling well. My family is
well,'' Jackson said.

During his three days of seclusion, Jackson said he received several calls
from fellow activists, politicians and some unexpected public figures, such
as the Rev. Jerry Falwell. The most consistent message he received, he said,
was ''do not let your voice be stilled.''

Jackson said one of the earliest calls came from former President Clinton,
to whose side Jackson rushed when Clinton's own extramarital affair
threatened to topple his presidency. Jackson said Clinton encouraged him to
determine what best helps him cope, and engage in that activity to heal
himself.

''His point was, when he was in the depth of his crisis, he had to work out
the contrition with his family. He had to work through it, you know?''
Jackson said. ''As a fighter, I'm determined I'd rather wear out than rust
out. Not only are the people calling upon me to serve, I desire to serve. I
find fulfillment in service. I find healing in service.''

Jackson also fielded a call Friday from President Bush. He declined to
discuss their conversation, but said one of his immediate goals is to assess
Bush's administration ''by their budget priorities, by their public policy
and by their moral tone.''

''Someone said a saint is just a sinner who got back up again,'' Jackson
said. ''When I think about the troubles Mr. Bush has had, and all of us have
had, as free human beings, all of us have sinned and come short of the glory
of God.''

If memory serves me he lied about nothing. He admitted he had a drinking
problem at one time and hadn't had a drink in 14 years and at the same time
made no admissions to being cited for DWI. Not bringing it to the forefront
would not constitute lying. We all know the story about the citation and how
it surfaced so conveniently just prior to the election, he didn't lie about,
he admitted it. Anyone with any measurable degree of intelligence would know
the citation would be documented somewhere in the legal system and foolish
to lie about.
Then what you're saying is you have knowledge of the hidden history of the
Whitehouse well enough to know which former Presidents indulged in the act
of Oral Sex in the Oval Office. I'm also quite confident after reading some
of your posts on this list that you would never make a statement as such
unless you could name the parties involved. Could you give us a quick run

alcoholic beverages not made illegal? I believe I read a post on this list

while Yasir Arafat was waiting patiently in the Rose Garden. I would also
say the problems in the Middle East are still not taken care of and are
considerably worse than they've been in years. As far as his Job Impairment

your just changing the context of my message. It's called morality, the same
morality Clinton professed during his first campaign, remember Family

complaining about high energy prices and shortages, or the Environmentalists
wanting oil exploration stopped in certain areas. People bitch yet everybody

He lied about it. It came out in the final weeks of the campaign.

Drunk driving and oral sex, or any kind of sex, are equivalent only to a
deranged mind. Drunk driving is like standing in a crowded room,
covering your eyes with one hand while firing a pistol randomly around
the room with the other hand. Even if, through sheer luck, nobody gets
hurt, it's still a heinous crime for which there is no excuse.

Sex, on the other hand, is nobody’s business except for the persons
actually involved. A case could be made that if doing it in the office
somehow impaired Clinton’s ability to do his job, that he shouldn’t have
done it there. This case has not been made. If anything, it seems to
have made him do his job more efficiently. What impaired his ability to
do his job was having to spend time defending himself from this
 ridiculous charge.

What’s more, Clinton killed at least a half a million Iraqis, almost all
of them women and children. Anybody who ignores that and gets upset
instead about his having had sex, is morally skewed. What’s wrong with
you, anyway? Can’t you see evil when you look at it? Sex isn't evil.
Sex is Nature's WAY. Sex is a GOOD thing. If it weren't for sex, you
wouldn't even BE here. Killing women and children so the oil companies
can make greater profits is evil. Get your priorities straight.

In a First Act, Bush Blocks Clinton Orders

Deborah Charles
01/20/01

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moving quickly upon taking office, President George
W. Bush on Saturday issued an order that essentially blocked some of the
last-minute executive orders and rules laid down by outgoing President
Clinton.
The order was believed to apply to such orders as new regulations for
managed care programs under Medicare and new environmental rules on runoff
from animal feeding operations.

It would also apply to Clinton's declaration of the former military post of
Governor's Island in New York Harbor as a national monument, a designation
Clinton made on Saturday.

Bush's move did not apply to the 140 presidential pardons and 36 prison
sentence commutations that Clinton issued less than two hours before his
term expired on Saturday.

Bush's order, signed by new White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card and sent
to the heads and acting heads of executive departments and agencies, said
the decision was made ``to ensure that the president's appointees have the
opportunity to review any new or pending regulations.''

``It's a way for us to conduct a more thorough and effective review of these
last-minute regulations,'' Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said.

The order meant that no new rules could be printed in the Federal Register,
which blocked them because the rules cannot take effect until they have
appeared in the Federal Register for a period of time.

Bush also issued a 60-day stay on regulations that were published in the
Federal Register but have not yet taken effect.

Some of the blizzard of rules issued by Clinton in his last days in office
angered Republicans, particularly his decision to declare nearly 60 million
acres of federal land, mostly in the western states, off limits to logging.

That order, however, came after a lengthy federal review period and would
appear to be extremely difficult to withdraw.

BUSH DEMANDS INTEGRITY, DECLARES DAY OF PRAYER

Fleischer said the new administration had a variety of options on how to
deal with Clinton's orders. ``I expect some will be repealed, some will be
amended, some will be kept.''

In other initial items of business, Bush directed employees of his new
government to observe ``the highest standards of integrity,'' declared
Sunday a national day of prayer and enacted a hiring freeze.

In a memorandum to the heads of government departments and agencies, Bush
said employees should not use public office for private gain. They should
disclose waste, fraud, abuse and corruption to appropriate authorities.

``Everyone who enters into public service for the United States has a duty
to the American people to maintain the highest standards of integrity in
government,'' Bush said in the memo.

The memo, released less than two hours after Bush took the oath of office as
America's 43rd president, followed Bush's campaign pledge to ``restore honor
and dignity'' to the White House after the ethical lapses and scandals of
the Clinton administration.

``It is a living and breathing reminder to our staff and to the nation of
the importance that the president himself attaches to high ethic standards
and government service,'' Fleischer said.

Card sent a separate memo to heads of executive departments and agencies,
saying Bush froze hiring until a department or agency head appointed by Bush
approves it. He also said each agency head will be instructed to develop a
plan to meet Bush's goal of reducing management ranks.

Reflecting his deep religious convictions, Bush also signed a proclamation
declaring Sunday a ``national day of prayer and thanksgiving'' to celebrate
the peaceful transfer of power between him and Clinton.

``On this day, I call upon Americans to recall all that unites us,'' Bush
said in the proclamation.

How Jesse Invented Himself
In Memphis
http://www.truefoodnow.org/shoppinglist.html

So it seems that Jesse Jackson was the perfect person to counsel President
Clinton about infidelity.

As the saying goes, the man knows whereof he speaks.

Are you really surprised that Jesse has a secret mistress and love child?

You shouldn't be. Jesse is the quintessential lovable rogue - although
"lovable" might be a stretch. Jackson (c.), Martin Luther King and Ralph
Abernathy (r.) the day before King's assassination

Like many - both black and white - I have been mesmerized by Jackson for
decades. Modesty is a virtue with which he has never been familiar.

I first heard Jesse speak at the National Black Political Convention in
Gary, Ind., in 1972. Sporting a huge Afro and colorful dashiki, Jackson
stirred the juices, an American Fidel who enchanted his audience for hours
as the venom flowed fast and furious. "The idea of looking for racial
equality [in America] is a farce," he thundered to deafening applause.

Jesse blew me away - and then I got to know him.

During his run for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination, I revisited
the story that formed the backbone of the Jackson legend - that immediately
after the assassination in Memphis in 1968, Jesse had cradled Martin Luther
King in his arms.

Building that story helped Jesse assume Martin's mantle - but like much
about Jackson, that story was a lie. Jesse Jackson with his wife Jackie at
the 1998 Democratic National Convention

Hosea Williams, who had been a King assistant, was only one of several
people, including former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, who told me what really
happened on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel on that horrific day:

"Right after the shooting, Jesse shouted to us all not to talk to the
press," Williams said. "But then I saw him telling reporters, 'Yes, I was
the last man in the world King spoke to.' He said he held King in his arms.
I knew he was lying - Ralph Abernathy was the one who held 'Doc.'"

"I don't know for sure why Jesse says what he says," Abernathy told me in
1987. "He's always had this deep need to project a special closeness to
whatever seemed holy."

While the rest of King's stunned aides stayed close in Memphis, Jesse flew
home to Chicago. The next morning, wearing a turtleneck that he said was
stained with King's blood, Jackson turned up on the "Today" show, retelling
his tall tale.

When I confronted Jesse with the testimony of King's other associates, he
dodged artfully. "Peter was with Jesus physically," Jackson said, reaching
for a biblical metaphor that avoided a direct answer. "But Paul interpreted
Jesus better than Peter did. Peter and them got jealous of Paul and have
been trying to ax him out ever since."

The King story is only one of many Jackson embellishments. For years, he
movingly recounted his impoverished upbringing to anyone willing to listen.
"I used to run bootleg liquor and buy hot clothes," Jackson told television
interviewers. "I had to steal to survive." His stepfather, he said, was a
janitor, his mother a maid.

In fact, Jackson's stepfather was a postal worker, his mother a beautician.
(Upset by his stepson's fabrication, a proud Charles Jackson told Barbara
Reynolds, for her book on Jesse, "We never begged for a dime, and my family
never went hungry a day in their lives.")

Ever since King's death, no other African-American has come close to
supplanting Jackson in the role he most relishes: In private, Jackson
considers himself the President of Black America.

As he travels the nation, urging the downtrodden to pull themselves up from
poverty - one of many admirable exhortations - Jesse still asks his
audiences to repeat after him: "I am somebody."

Well, Jesse is certainly somebody. He's a world-class piece of work, and it
now seems he's been comfortably living his biggest lie for some time.

Jesse Jackson is more than somebody. He is two bodies.

[CTRL] Clinton eyes $650,000 taxpayer-paid office space

Clinton Will Stay on Govt. Payroll

By SHANNON McCAFFREY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Clinton (news - web sites) leaves government
housing Saturday for life as a private citizen, but he'll still be receiving
federal help.

Like other ex-presidents, Clinton will continue to get taxpayer-funded
travel, mail, staff, office space and Secret Service protection.

Clinton is office hunting in Manhattan, one of the world's priciest markets.
The 56th floor suite the president has his eye on reportedly rents for about
$650,000 a year, more than twice the $285,000 Ronald Reagan's California
office costs taxpayers. President Bush's Texas office costs $147,000;
President Carter's in Georgia, $93,000, and President Ford's in Michigan,
$99,000.

The rent and other office-related costs - everything from pens and pencils
to travel - are covered by the government for the life of the ex-president.
Clinton is only 54, so taxpayers could be footing the bill for decades.

``That President Clinton is looking in such an expensive area is a great
concern to us,'' said Pete Sepp, spokesman for the conservative American
Taxpayers Union.

Gary Ruskin of the Congressional Accountability Project, a watchdog group
affiliated with consumer advocate Ralph Nader (news - web sites), suggested
Clinton look for a cheaper office or set up shop in a federal office
building.

``We hope he'd help save some of the budget surplus he helped create,''
Ruskin said.

The Carnegie Hall Tower office suite Clinton is eyeing is on West 57th
Street and has a commanding view of Central Park. In the neighborhood are
the famed Russian Tea Room restaurant, the Carnegie Deli and Carnegie Hall.

Rockrose Realty, which is handling the property, would not comment Thursday.
White House officials would say only that no deal had been finalized.

Office rents in Midtown Manhattan average $62 per square foot but can be as
high as $100 a square foot in some choice buildings, said Michael Slattery
of the New York City Real Estate Board.

Manhattan is about an hour's drive from the Clintons' home in Chappaqua,
N.Y., bought when Hillary Rodham Clinton (news - web sites) decided to run
for the seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Clinton has not spelled out what he will do after leaving office. He'll
collect a $157,000-a-year pension and may hit the lecture circuit, where he
could make a lot of money.

Don Epstein, chief executive officer of the New York-based Greater Talent
Network, predicted Clinton would earn than $100,000 a speech.

``I think that he probably will command more than just about anybody else
out there,'' Epstein said.

He also could land a huge book deal. Last month, his wife agreed to an $8
million advance for her memoirs.

Ashcroft approval rising
Poll also finds Bush numbers remain consistently favorable

By Jon Dougherty
 2001 WorldNetDaily.com

As Senate Judiciary Committee hearings into Attorney General-nominee John
Ashcroft stretched into Day No. 3, a new poll says Americans are giving the
former U.S. senator higher approval ratings than before the hearings began
earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the committee opened hearings with contentious questioning from
veteran senators about Ashcroft's Christian opposition to abortion, his
pro-Second Amendment views and his opposition to one of President Clinton's
nominees to the federal bench.

According to Portrait of America, 43 percent of Americans now rate him
favorably, compared to 36 percent Jan. 9.

In Thursday's poll, POA analysts said 25 percent of Americans were "not
sure" how they viewed Ashcroft, compared to 35 percent last week.

Meanwhile, POA said, "President-elect George W. Bush's job-approval rating
remains virtually unchanged."

Bush, who will be inaugurated tomorrow in Washington, D.C., has an overall
favorable rating of 50 percent among Americans, who rated his performance as
president-elect as "excellent" or "good." Forty-six percent said his
performance has been "fair" or "poor."

"This rating has remained mostly unchanged since the U.S. Supreme Court
decision on the election," analysts said.

Rasmussen Research conducted this national Portrait of America telephone
survey of 750 likely voters on Jan. 15, 2001. The margin of sampling error
is plus or minus 4 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.

The Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold three hearings with Ashcroft
this week.

The featured witness Thursday was Missouri Supreme Court Justice Ronnie
White, an African-American who was nominated to the federal bench by Clinton
in 1999. His nomination was opposed by Ashcroft, who called him
"pro-criminal" in his opposition to the imposition of the death penalty in
key high-profile cases in Missouri.

Democrats and certain advocacy groups, including Rev. Jesse Jackson --
embroiled in a new scandal of his own -- according to reports on Thursday,
have tried to label Ashcroft a racist, despite his support for 26 out of 28
minority nominees as a U.S. Senator.

[CTRL] Poll: Americans Don't Trust Clinton

Poll: Americans Don't Trust Clinton

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Americans don't really trust President Clinton (news - web
sites), and they don't think much of his morals, says a new poll. But a
strong majority surely think he's done a good job running the country.

An ABC News-Washington Post poll released Wednesday night showed that 65
percent approve of his job performance, about the same as the job approval
rating Ronald Reagan had at the end of his term. They had the highest
end-of-term rating of any president in the last half-century.

The approval of Clinton's job performance has tracked closely with public
perception of economic conditions. As the economic recovery began to gain
momentum in the summer of 1996, the president's approval rating crept above
60 percent.

The public's view of Clinton is sharply divided along partisan lines, with
93 percent of Democrats approving of his job performance and only 32 percent
of Republicans. Clinton gets positive marks from different groups. Six in 10
Republicans and conservatives approve of his handling of the economy.
Three-fourths overall approve of his handling of the economy and of race
relations, while almost that many approve of his handling of foreign
affairs. Only half approve of his handling of health care, and six in 10
approve of his handling of the welfare system.

As he prepares to leave office Saturday, Americans are decidedly less upbeat
on personal measures of Clinton. Three-fourths say he does not have high
moral and ethical standards, and almost that many say he is not trustworthy.
Two-thirds said he is a strong leader, and half say he will be thought of as
an outstanding or above-average president. And six in 10 say he should not
be charged with a crime for lying under oath about his relationship with
Monica Lewinsky.

People remain sharply divided on whether Clinton should have been impeached,
with just over half saying he should not have been. They also are split on
whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the president. The
ABC-Post poll of 1,513 adults was taken Jan. 11-15 and has an error margin
of 2.5 percentage points.

Looking ahead, half of Americans said they are at least somewhat optimistic
about the next four years, according to another new poll, as President-elect
Bush prepares to take office at the same time that confidence in the economy
is slipping.

About four in 10 say they're confident Bush has the right goals and policies
as well as the right personal characteristics to be president, according to
the NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday evening. Almost
that many say they are only somewhat confident he has those goals and
characteristics.

Just over half, 53 percent, said the conditions faced by Bush will be more
difficult than those that faced Bill Clinton when he became president in
1993. Roughly the same number felt that Clinton faced more difficult
circumstances that Bush's father did when he became president in 1988.

The NBC-Journal poll of 1,018 adults was taken Saturday through Monday and
has an error margin of 3 percentage points.

Republican polling done the day after the presidential election, found that
voters who backed Bush did so both because of his personality and his
agenda. According to the GOP poll, more people thought Bush was
intelligent - a question raised about him during the campaign - than thought
Democratic nominee Al Gore (news - web sites) was honest, one of the major
criticisms of the Democrat.

And the poll found that Gore won the last week of the election campaign
``primarily because the Democrats trashed George Bush, especially in the
African-American community and made black voters vote against George Bush
rather than for Al Gore,'' said GOP pollster Whit Ayres of Atlanta, who
conducted the national poll of 1,200 voters on Nov. 8 and presented it
Wednesday to the Republican National Committee (news - web sites). That poll
also had a 3 percentage point error margin.

REV. IS IN A ‘SORRY' STATE
Thursday,January 18,2001

By TRACY CONNOR

 JESSE JACKSON
N.Y. Post: Mary McLauglin

A "truly sorry" Rev. Jesse Jackson revealed last night that he fathered a
love child two years ago - and said he's dropping out of public life to
reconcile with his devastated family.
The extraordinary admission came as the National Enquirer published a story
about Jackson's secret affair with Rainbow Coalition activist Karin
Stanford.

The bombshell report details how the married civil-rights leader romanced
the ex-professor while serving as spiritual adviser to President Clinton
during Sexgate and even took his pregnant mistress to the White House.

"I am father to a daughter who was born outside of my marriage," Jackson
said in a statement to The Post.

"As her mother does, I love this child very much and have assumed
responsibility for her emotional and financial support since she was born,"
he continued.

"This is no time for evasions, denials or alibis. I fully accept
responsibility and I am truly sorry for my actions."

The fiery preacher - who has been hammering away at some of George W. Bush's
Cabinet appointments in recent days - said he was taking time off from his
"public ministry" because of the scandal.

It was unclear if he was canceling plans to lead a massive march on the
Florida state capitol on Inauguration Day to protest the presidential
election mess.

The Post contacted Stanford, 39, at her home in south Los Angeles several
times this week. She and family members politely declined to comment on her
affair with Jackson, 59.

But she told the Enquirer: "Jesse and I still have a very warm and close
relationship."

Since DNA tests determined he was the father of the 20-month-old girl -
Stanford was seeing another man when she got pregnant - Jackson has been
paying $10,000 a month in support.

He also gave the single mom $40,000 for "moving expenses" when she took
maternity leave and left Washington, D.C., for her native California.

Their fateful liaison began after Jackson, impressed by a book Stanford had
written about his impact on foreign policy, hired her to run the Rainbow
Coalition's Washington office.

The affair coincided with the explosion of the Sexgate scandal and Jackson's
unofficial position as adviser to Clinton on his adulterous fling with
intern Monica Lewinsky.

In August 1998, around the time his out-of-wedlock child was conceived,
Jackson urged the public to forgive the president for cheating on his wife.

"The nation must take the test: If there are any among us who have not known
the trials and tribulations and temptations, then throw a rock," he said.

"At some point, we have to forgive, redeem and move on."

That December, he escorted a four-months-pregnant Stanford and other Rainbow
Coalition staffers to meet President Clinton and stood next to her during a
photo opportunity.

It wasn't long before word of the escapades reached the homefront - and
Jackson's enraged wife of 38 years, Jackie, confronted Stanford at the
Rainbow Coalition offices, the Enquirer said.

"Jackie screamed at Karin that she'd raised Jesse's children and had been at
his side through really tough times," a source told the weekly. "She accused
Karin of getting pregnant on purpose."

And Stanford admitted: "I would not be surprised if his family hated me."

Even after the blowup, Jackson - who was born out of wedlock himself - was
clearly not ready to acknowledge the child was his.

In a March 1999 newsletter, he announced Stanford would soon be taking
maternity leave for "the birth of her first child" with her attorney
boyfriend.

A week later, he announced he had decided not to seek the Democratic
nomination for president, reprising his 1984 and 1988 campaigns.

Stanford was involved with another man when she found out she was pregnant
and left blank the space for the father's name on the birth certificate when
her daughter was born in May.

But a DNA test confirmed Jackson was the father of the baby, who reportedly
shares with him a genetic trait for sickle-cell anemia.

He quickly had a financial agreement for support drawn up - a pact that
included an agreement by Stanford not to publicly acknowledge her baby's
parentage, the tab reported.

In Los Angeles, Stanford continues to work for the Rainbow Coalition as a
consultant, and Jackson visits her and his daughter when he's in California.

The scandal has left Jackson estranged from Jackie and on shaky ground with
his five kids, including his congressman son, Jesse Jr.

"It has been an extremely painful, trying, difficult time for them," Jackson
said.

"I have asked God and each one of them to forgive me and I thank each of
them for their grace and understanding throughout this period of
tribulation.

"We have prayed together and through God's grace we have

Jesse Jackson Affair

Some folks because of an apparent lack of wisdom, seem to reject and violate
age-old proverbs. Such as, "PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULD NOT THROW STONES".

Being a life-long resident of Chicago and an activist since I was a child, I
became known as someone who was not afraid to speak out. By 1965,
self-educated in law, I brought a series of federal court class actions to
re-apportion Chicago and Illinois's terribly gerry-mandered voting
districts. The "One Man, One Vote" constitutionally-based standards were
being flagrantly violated. These violations resulted in blacks and latinos
not having a fair chance to elect a sufficient number of representatives
such as in the City Council of Chicago, as justified by the minority
population in the Windy City.

Members of minorities understood I was using my legal research and
investigation skills not only to target crooked judges and lawyers, but to
assist the aspirations of the underdogs. I choose not to be a member of the
Bar. The Federal Judges, who hate non-lawyers and me in particular, were
nevertheless forced to permit me to represent myself as a voter and all
voters similarly situated. As a result of my lawsuits, sometimes opposed by
as many as fifty lawyers [my electric mimeograph rapidly cranked out the
court papers], blacks and latinos were able to have more representatives
speaking for their interests elected to the City Council, the Illinois State
Legislature, and the U.S. Congress, and eventually even the County Board.

By 1969, there was a vast movement in Chicago of black would-be home-owners.
By racially-discrminatory practices, banks "red-lined" black districts, so
blacks could not get a home mortgage. Blacks had to buy "on contract",
paying per month on the basis of twice what the house was worth. I became a
volunteer consultant to the 25,000 members of the South Side Contract Buyers
League. In packed church mass meetings, I outlined what needs to be done. I
dared tell them that the judges hearing their cause were real estate
speculators and landlords of sizeable properties, enemies of the common man.
The judges opposed the dreams of the Chicago blacks to one-day own their own
home.

To the Establishment and their banks and mortgage companies, a grassroots
movement, like the Buyers League, is dangerous, like a prairie fire. They
have to stop it. Enter, Rev. Jesse Jackson. A series of well-informed
sources told me plenty about Jesse's rise to prominence and how he was
becoming a multi-millionaire through a series of secret business
arrangements. [I had unraveled the secrets of his ill-gotten wealth.] At a
crucial court hearing, Rev. Jackson arrived with his muscle-men, called
"Black Men Moving", grim enforcers, who overwhelmed the already packed
courtroom. The leaders of the Buyers League, present in Court, were
prepared, representing themselves, to discuss the law and the facts [they
whispered to me that they suspected Jesse's bunch were a set-up,
provocateurs].

The court scene became extreme and tense, with Jesse's people, instead of
discussing law and facts, hollaring slogans and threats. The County Sheriff
himself, not a deputy, entered the Courtroom and stood next to the Judge on
the bench. The deputies swept into the courtroom. Guess who they arrested?
Not Jesse Jackson or his military-style team, but rather the President and
Vice-President of the Buyers League who had been mostly polite and silent.
They were taken to the Sheriff's lock-up in the Court basement. At that
point, Jesse went from the courthouse to the Mayor's Office across the
street. I told a number of the Buyers League members to hurry up and push me
in my wheelchair to follow Jesse.

As I rolled up, Jesse was sitting in the Mayor's outer office. He growled at
me, "What are you doing here white face?" I responded, "Look, I am not some
white cracker bigot that you are trying to scare. I am helping the Buyers
League. YOUR southside office is just a few feet away from THEIR office.
Yet, you repeatedly refused to help them." As he entered the Mayor's inner
office he kept several women members of the Buyers League from following him
in. They began pounding on the closed door, "Jesse, come out of there! You
do not speak for us." Jeese exited the inner office as a TV crew was setting
up their lights. As he approached their microphone he glared at me, "I'm
going to get you for this!" Like some over six foot high pest-control
expert, somehow giving me advance warning, looking down at me sitting in my
wheelchair like I was some kind of helpless bug.

Sweet victory! The confrontation and commotions I caused resulted in the two
leaders of the Buyers League being released from the court basement lock-up.
After other incidents, my strategies worked. Rev. Jesse Jackson did not
succeed in taking over and snuffing out

The truth about Jessie
‘The Red’ Jackson
by Gerard Jackson
TNA News with Commentary
Thursday 14 December 2000

Four years of political warfare were signalled by Jesse Jackson when he
exclaimed: “We will take to the streets right now. We will delegitimise
Bush, discredit him, do whatever it takes, but never accept him,” even
threatening a “civil rights explosion”.

Jesse Jackson:
reckless dishonest

Jackson tried to justify his threat against Bush by saying: “I hope today
that this court will rule ‘let the vote count.’ The only way you can
determine a legitimate winner is for the votes to count.” This statement
exposes Jackson as a liar. First, every vote has been counted; second, he
supported Gore’s efforts to literally disenfranchise service personnel plus
25,000 absentee voters from Martin and Seminole counties. The more Jackson
opens his sleazy mouth the more he sounds like one of Castro’s corrupt party
hacks, especially the ones that work on the New York Slimes.

That Jackson should threaten to subvert a duly appointed president should
alert Americans to the lawless nature of the Democrats’ hardcore supporters
and their utter contempt for the rule of law and anything resembling the
truth.

Part of the problem is that only a tiny per centage of conservatives are
truly aware of what kind of political animal Jackson really is, and even
they remain silent. I, however, think the time has now come to expose Jesse
Jackson as a race-baiting hypocrite and an anti-American activist who wishes
his country nothing but harm.

One only has to examine Jackson’s links to the Marxist Washington-based IPS
(Institute for Policy Studies) to gain some understanding of his motives.
This is how Brian Crozier described that organisation: “The IPS is the
perfect intellectual front for Soviet activities which would be resisted if
they were too originate openly from the KGB.” Crozier is a highly regarded
commentator on intelligence matters and was a fellow of the prestigious
London-based Institute for the Study of Conflict. His opinion was supported
by the fact that the IPS had been a frequent meeting place for known KGB
operatives. It also supported every anti-Western terrorist group I can think
of as well giving strong support to Castro, which it still does.

None of this stopped Jackson from developing strong ties with the institute
and taking its advice, far from it. IPS founders Marcus Raskin and Richard
Barnett, and institute fellows Roger Wilkins and Robert Borosage — all of
whom profoundly anti-American and deeply pro-Soviet — were Jackson’s
advisers during his futile run for the presidency. Wilkins was Jackson’s key
speechwriter and was responsible for his candidacy speech; Wilkins, a
fervent supporter of Soviet central planning, advised Jackson on domestic
policy while Borosage, an admirer of Castro and other communist thugs,
advised him on foreign affairs. Surely that is telling us something about
Jackson’s true sympathies and his real attitude towards America.

In 1984 (a most appropriate year) Gar Alperovitz and Jeff Faux, IPS
apparatchiks and communist apologists, published +Rebuilding America, a
manual for turning the US into a Soviet-style economy. And who heaped
fulsome praise on this totally worthless piece of pro-communist propaganda?
You guessed it. God ’ol Jesse “I love Castro’ Jackson who exclaimed that
this economic nonsense would be “the economic manual for [my] Rainbow
Coalition”. Five years later the centrally planned communist states
collapsed.

The at the IPS is opposed to America’s democratic traditions was made clear
when it stated: “The Institute for Policy Studies is engaged in a longer and
deeper struggle, a struggle over the underlying principles and future
direction of the political bankruptcy of the ideas and assumptions now
governing America . . .” That’s right, folks, the United States Constitution
and the Bill or Rights are bankrupt institutions because they serve the
interests of the ruling class.

In November 1988 the IPS organised a conference called Anti-Communism and
the United States: History and Consequences. As you can imagine, those who
defended the values of the United States and opposed communist tyranny and
the appalling crimes committed by communist states were berated as
reactionaries. And guess who was wallowing in this leftwing sewer? No, not
Jesse ‘Stick ‘em Up’ Jackson but Jack O’Dell who happened to be one of
Jackson’s close advisers. The same Jesse ‘Shakedown’ Jackson who led a
disgusting protest at Stanford University where he led student barbarians
with the chant: “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western Civ got to go.”

Yep, this rabblerousing political parasite called for the destruction of
courses teaching the glories of Western Culture — everything from the
brilliance of ancient Athens through to the renaissance, the literary genius
of Shakespeare, the works of seventeenth and eighteenth century thinkers and
up to the present

Iraq to Donate $94 Million to Poor Americans

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Iraqi government, at a meeting chaired by President
Saddam Hussein, Monday agreed to donate 100 million euros ($94 million) to
poor Americans, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) said.

``The cabinet decided, on humanitarian grounds, to allocate 100 million
euros to be distributed to poor Americans,'' INA said, adding an Iraqi
commission would be formed to supervise distribution of the money.

It said U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) would be
notified of the donation.

INA said there were 30 million people living below the poverty line in the
United States -- Iraq's sworn enemy.

Iraq is under a United Nations (news - web sites) humanitarian program to
relieve its population from the effects of economic sanctions imposed over
the country's invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

Baghdad's proceeds from oil sales are used to buy food, medicine and other
essential goods under U.N. monitoring.

Last month, Saddam pledged one billion euros to Palestinians to aid their
uprising against Israeli occupation.

Clinton Backs Electoral Reform Study

NEW YORK (AP) - In a New York Times editorial published on his final Sunday
in office, President Clinton (news - web sites) urged the incoming
administration to establish a commission to study such election reforms as
making Election Day a national holiday and restoring the rights of felons to
vote.

Clinton invoked the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who is honored
with a national holiday Monday, in outlining several recommendations to
improve civil rights and race relations in the United States.

'' ... Because of the lessons and sacrifices of people like Martin Luther
King, Jr., whose birthday we celebrate tomorrow, we can write a new preamble
to the 21st century, in which color differences are not the problem, but the
promise, of America,'' Clinton said.

Some of the initiatives will be sent to Congress over his final week in
office and others should be addressed by President-elect Bush after he takes
office Saturday, Clinton said.

Among Clinton's recommendations were: passing a federal ban on racial
profiling; addressing the disparity of federal sentencing guidelines on
crack and powder-cocaine sentences, and passing legislation to provide
greater access to DNA testing in death penalty cases.

Clinton advocated forming a nonpartisan election reform commission to be led
by former Presidents Ford and Carter to study disparities in voting
participation among ethnic groups, classes and races in every state. The
panel should recommend to Congress its conclusions on how to achieve uniform
standards on voting and on vote counting, he said.

Directing his initiatives toward building ``One America,'' Clinton
concluded: ``Whether you are able to help a single child or lead a national
movement for justice, it all begins with a personal commitment. ... I pledge
to continue the important work of building One America as I return to the
most important job of all: citizen.''

[CTRL] Bush gaining in Miami-Dade recount

Miami-Dade ballot recount

By Clay Lambert and Bill Douthat, Palm Beach Post Staff Writers
Sunday, January 14, 2001

MIAMI -- George W. Bush would have gained six votes more than Al Gore if all
the dimples and hanging chads on 10,600 previously uncounted ballots in
Miami-Dade County had been included in the totals, according to a review by
The Palm Beach Post.

That result would have been a hard blow to Al Gore's hopes of claiming the
presidency in a recount. Before the vice president conceded last month, the
Gore camp had expected to pick up as many as 600 votes from a Miami-Dade
recount -- barely enough to overtake Bush's razor-thin Florida lead.
Instead, The Post's review indicates Gore would have lost ground.

If everything were counted -- from the faintest dimple to chads barely
hanging on ballots -- 251 additional votes would have gone to Bush and 245
more would have gone to Gore, The Post review showed.

The review, concluded last week, also showed that the vast majority of
ballots rejected as under-votes (meaning there was no clear punch for any
candidate) when counted by machine appeared, in fact, to cast no vote for
president. About 7,600 under-votes had no mark at all on the presidential
column, or in rare cases included multiple votes that defied judgment. Most
of the voters who did not indicate a vote for president did punch choices in
other races.

But at least 2,257 voters apparently poked at their ballot cards without
properly inserting them into the voting machines. Miami-Dade County
Elections Supervisor David Leahy said that's because the voters failed to
follow directions.

Of these miscast votes, 302 more would have gone for Gore than Bush, under
Leahy's theory.

Even if those votes had been cast correctly, however, it would not have
changed the outcome of a presidential election that turned on 537 votes for
Bush in Florida.

"In other words, Dade was a wash," said Ivy Korman, director of special
projects for the Miami-Dade County supervisor of elections. "And, knowing
our county the way that we do, that is why we didn't feel the need to do a
manual recount."

Gore easily carried the county by more than 39,000 votes on Nov. 7. The
certified results in Miami-Dade were 328,808 for Gore and 289,533 for Bush,
according to the Florida secretary of state's office.

Counts' results will vary

The Miami-Dade canvassing board abandoned its manual recount Nov. 22 after
counting 140 of the county's 616 precincts. And four teams of judges in Leon
County were about halfway through Miami-Dade's disputed ballots Dec. 9 when
the U.S. Supreme Court stopped all recounts in Florida. No results were
released from the judges' partial recount.

The Post's review of all the under-votes is the first of several planned or
under way. Later this month, a consortium that includes The Post, The Wall
Street Journal and The New York Times plans to begin looking at the
under-votes in each of Florida's 67 counties. The Miami Herald and USA Today
are doing a similar review. The Herald/USA Today review, using accountants,
is expected to be finished in Miami-Dade this week.

Because of varying judgments by reviewers on how each ballot is marked and
the inevitable human error that occurs when thousands of ballots are
examined by hand, results of the reviews by newspapers are almost certain to
differ.

Furthermore, experts say no count -- whether done by hand or by machine --
will ever be exact. Computer industry consultants estimate the error rate
for counting punch cards could run as high as 1 percent and varies with the
number of times the cards are handled.

(For example, results changed in 313 of Palm Beach County's 531 precincts
when the ballots were counted by hand.)

In the 37-day contest of Florida election results, Gore had hoped to find a
mother lode of votes in heavily Democratic South Florida to overtake Bush. A
manual recount in Broward County added 567 votes for Gore. Although it did
not meet the deadline, the manual recount in Palm Beach County would have
added 174 votes.

The Bush campaign contended the recounts were unnecessary because Bush won
on Nov. 7 and in the mandated machine recount conducted Nov. 8.

Pattern in mis-punches?

In the Miami-Dade under-vote, the largest group of marked ballots was the
2,257 cleanly but inaccurately punched cards. During the media review,
Leahy, the elections supervisor, demonstrated how many voters might have
punched odd-numbered chads, which didn't correspond to any of the 10
candidates for president named on the ballot.

Miami-Dade elections officials assigned only even numbers to the
presidential candidates -- No. 4 for Bush, No. 6 for Gore, No. 8 for
Libertarian Harry Browne and so on.

Leahy showed that when punch cards were laid over the ballot booklets
instead of inserted into the machine the arrow corresponding to Bush
appeared to point to the No. 5

Bush will cut off aid to Russia until it reforms

FROM BEN MACINTYRE IN WASHINGTON

GEORGE W. BUSH gave warning yesterday that he intends to cut off funding
aimed at stimulating a market economy in Russia until major reforms are
carried out there.
The President-elect rejected the Clinton Administration’s policy of using
direct financial aid to encourage Russia’s conversion to a market economy.
He indicated that he would try to stop the flow of money, except where it is
used to dismantle nuclear weapons, until President Putin tackles widespread
corruption and enacts substantial economic and legal reforms.

“It just seems like to me that we don’t want to be lending money and/or
encouraging the lending of money into a system in which the intention of the
capital is never fulfilled,” he told The New York Times in a wide-ranging
interview laying out several themes of his future administration before
Saturday’s inauguration.

“The intent of the capital was to encourage entrepreneurship and markets,”
he said, after dismissing Mr Clinton’s eight-year effort to push Russia
towards reform with financial aid.

Since 1992 the United States has spent about $2.3 billion (1.5 billion)
promoting democratic development and market reforms in Russia. The
International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have issued loans worth $30
billion.

In another sign of the new administration’s tough stance, Mr Bush said he
was prepared for Russia and China to object to the building of a National
Missile Defence (NMD) but had no intention of backing down. “We’ve just got
to explain why we are doing what we are doing,” he said.

Moscow and Beijing are working on a friendship pact, reflecting their shared
unhappiness with American plans to build a shield against ballistic missile
attack, but Mr Bush insisted that neither power had anything to fear. “The
Chinese know and the Russians know that there will be no system developed in
the immediate future, or the foreseeable future is a better word, that can
conceivably intercept a multiple launch of missiles,” he said.

Just one week before he is inaugurated, Mr Bush signalled that he may try to
reverse some of Mr Clinton’s final actions, most notably his efforts to
place 60 million acres of forest beyond developers’ reach. “There’s going to
be some property in these giant chunks of land that we can use and not
damage the environment,” he said, reflecting the views of many, particularly
in the West, who say the Clinton Administration is riding roughshod over
their land rights.

“I understand the Western mentality, and I want the Western mentality
represented in this administration,” Mr Bush said, adding that his legal
advisers were exploring the possibilities of reversing some of Mr Clinton’s
recent executive orders. “We’ve got lawyers looking at every single issue,
every single opportunity.”

In another move that will delight his conservative base, Mr Bush said that
he was inclined to stop any taxpayers’ money from going to family planning
groups that encourage abortions abroad. “Organisations that promote abortion
are organisations I don’t want to support,” Mr Bush said. Mr Clinton signed
an order allowing such private groups to receive federal funds two days
after entering the White House in 1993. Mr Bush appears likely to move just
as quickly to block any money that could be used to perform or encourage
abortions in other countries.

Mr Bush gave no hint of compromise on another of his key policy
initiatives — his planned $1.6 billion tax cut over the next ten years.
Asked if he was prepared to negotiate on the size of the tax-reduction
package, the President-elect was blunt: “The answer is ‘no’. I think it’s
the right number.”

The man who will soon be America’s 43rd President said that he hoped to keep
his inaugural address to just 12 minutes next Saturday, with the message:
“We can be a unified America” — a theme which, he insisted, is not related
to the narrowness of his victory and the divisive, post-election struggle
with Vice-President Al Gore.

Judicial Watch gets tip Clinton aides 'destroying' evidence before Jan. 20

By Paul Sperry
 2001 WorldNetDaily.com

The White House is rushing to "wipe clean" the hard drives of computers used
by President Clinton's aides before the Jan. 20 changeover, a
public-interest law firm claims.

Normally, when employees leave the White House, computer workers take a
snapshot of the contents of their hard drives and store them as part of
official records, as required by law. Then they reformat the hard drives for
the next users.

But according to Judicial Watch, Inc., political aides have ordered computer
workers to first run the hard drives through a software program by the firm
Jetico, called B.C., or Best Crypt, which "wipes clean the drives so the
next administration can't retrieve any files."

"They're starting with [the hard drives of] the most important people
first -- the [White House] lawyers -- and working their way down," said
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "And they're working through the
weekend."

He added: "It's the equivalent of burning records, according to our
sources," who are White House employees.

The records are key to Judicial Watch's Filegate lawsuit against the White
House. General counsel Larry Klayman said he passed the tip on to U.S.
District Judge Royce Lamberth late Friday.

Calls to the White House were not returned by deadline.

Fitton said Clinton aides Mark Lindsay and Michael Lyle are heading up the
project -- which is being carried out by Charles Nash, a supervisor in the
White House's records management unit.

In the proposal, Doerr calls Kamen -- who was just awarded the National
Medal of Technology, the country's highest such award -- a combination
of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Doerr also says, a touch ominously,
that he had been sure that he wouldn't see the development of anything

Oh well...as much as I'd like to believe that this is a

that what we will end up seeing in 2002 is the next Rubik's Cube,

Kamen, an avid aviator who commutes via a helicopter, is also the

I suggest everyone do a little research on the Kamen

[CTRL] Court frees Limone after 33 years in prision

Court frees Limone after 33 years in prison

By Ralph Ranalli, Globe Correspondent, 1/6/2001

AMBRIDGE - One arm cradling a bouquet of yellow roses, the other wrapped
tightly around his tearful wife, Peter Limone walked out of Middlesex
Superior Courthouse yesterday a free man after allegedly being framed for
murder by the FBI and spending 33 years in prison, four of them on death
row.

''Mr. Limone's long wait is over,'' said Middlesex Superior Court Judge
Margaret Hinkle, prompting applause and tears from a large group of
relatives and supporters of Limone in the East Cambridge courtroom.

Hinkle, who said it was ''now time to move on,'' granted a joint motion by
defense lawyers and Suffolk District Attorney Ralph C. Martin II's office to
give Limone, 66, a new trial and vacate his life sentence.

After spending half his life behind bars for the murder of Edward ''Teddy''
Deegan in 1965, Limone was freed largely on the basis of secret FBI
documents uncovered by a Justice Department task force investigating
corruption in the bureau's use of organized crime informants.

The documents, which were never turned over to defense lawyers in the Deegan
case, suggest that a onetime FBI informant, Vincent J. ''Jimmy the Bear''
Flemmi, planned Deegan's murder, not Limone.

The key witness against Limone - hit man-turned-FBI-witness Joseph ''The
Animal'' Barboza - was Flemmi's best friend.

The documents say that an informant told the FBI who the participants in the
murder were, and Limone and the three men convicted along with him weren't
among them.

The documents also suggest that FBI agents not only covered up evidence that
Limone and three other men were wrongly convicted in order to protect Flemmi
and his gangster brother, Stephen - an FBI informant for nearly 30 years -
but also knew about the Deegan murder plot in advance and did nothing to
stop it.

''The conduct of the bureau at the time of the murder of Mr. Deegan and the
trial of Mr. Limone tarnishes that agency,'' said Hinkle, a former assistant
US attorney.

Limone had harsh words yesterday for the bureau, particularly former Special
Agent H. Paul Rico, who was Barboza's FBI handler and is reportedly a target
of the Justice Department corruption task force.

''He framed me. He knew what he was doing,'' the silver-haired Limone said
of the agent, who is retired and living in Florida. ''He's scum. He set it
all up.''

Overall, however, the mood of the Limone family was joyful and free of
bitterness and rancor.

Flanked by his wife, Olympia, his four children, and six of his eight
grandchildren, Limone spoke mostly of his gratitude for the people who stood
by him and helped him over the years, particularly his relatives and his
attorney, John Cavicchi.

''I just give thanks to the good people I have been involved with,'' he
said. ''I am very happy.''

Prison, he said, was ''very hard, every day in there, knowing I was
innocent.'' His time was made even harder by watching two codefendants,
Henry Tameleo and Louis Greco, die in prison while their appeals were
rejected by court after court.

Defense lawyers allege that Barboza and the FBI framed Limone, Tameleo,
Greco, and a fourth codefendant, Joseph Salvati, in order to settle personal
scores and to satisfy a mandate from FBI headquarters to make cases against
the underworld.

Tameleo was believed to be a top figure in the Patriarca New England crime
family and Limone and Greco were reputed associates.

Salvati, who owed Barboza money, had his life sentence commuted by Governor
William F. Weld in 1997. Martin's office also filed motions with Hinkle
Thursday to vacate Salvati's sentence and grant him a new trial.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Lee said the newly discovered FBI documents
were a key factor - along with other recently uncovered witness statements
and evidence indicating Limone and Salvati's innocence - in their decision
to drop their opposition to a new trial.

''The documents painted a very compelling picture,'' Lee said. ''What
happened here was wrong enough for us to come into court and say that this
mandates a new trial.''

Publicly, Martin's office had no comment on whether they would pursue a new
trial or drop the case, but privately, sources close to the office called it
a practical impossibility because of the age of the case, the doubts cast on
it by the FBI documents, and the fact that Barboza was murdered in 1976.

Limone and his lawyer said they would wait before considering whether to
file a civil lawsuit against the FBI or state prosecutors.

Cavicchi, however, said that based on what has been paid to other wrongfully
imprisoned defendants, ''$5 million might be a good starting point.''

Well done Samantha, but there's more

 Behalf Of Samantha L.
 http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/01/24/pentagon.budget/

Last year, the administration proposal was $267 billion. Congress added
almost $5 billion to that to bring the total to $272.4 billion for fiscal
year 2000, for a total increase of $9.8 billion, or 3.75 percent. This did
not include supplemental appropriations to cover the cost of operations in
 Bosnia and Kosovo.
This year's proposed $291 billion is an increase of 6.83 percent.
The last time the Pentagon received so large an increase in its
 budget was in
1983, when the defense budget went up 7.4 percent to $239 billion. In 1999
inflation-adjusted dollars that would be equal to $383 billion.

Catch-up Funding might be the reason for such a large increase. I also find
it hard to believe Clinton was strapped for eight years with Bush's Defense
Budget. Read on
http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/01/24/pentagon.budget/
excerpt (same article continued)
In this election year, the proposal could draw charges of playing politics.
Republican presidential candidates have criticized the Clinton
administration for underfunding the military and causing what they called a
resulting decline in readiness.

One of Republican presidential hopeful John McCain's campaign themes is
restoring military spending. And George W. Bush, who advocates "clear-eyed
realism" in foreign policy, says he will set national defense as the "first
focus" of a Bush administration should he be elected.

Both hopefuls have come down hard on Clinton's dealings with the military
budgets during his administration.

"There is almost no relationship between our budget priorities and a
strategic vision," Bush says. "The last seven years have been wasted in
inertia and idle talk."

McCain backs increased defense spending, claiming that "not since Pearl
Harbor has our investment in national defense been so low as a percentage of
our gross national product."

Can't say I've ever heard of his program...

Perhaps. Perhaps not. The size of McConnell's audience has not
one iota of relevance to the points he raises
 regarding Bell's credibility.

If Bell's personal situation was such as to demand his total
attention, he would have retained some
credibility if he'd announced that he had to take a leave of
absence from broadcasting for an indeterminate
length of time, but that he'd endeavor to return ASAP. By
announcing that he was leaving the airwaves
"forever", then returning in less than a year's time, you can't
blame anyone outside of Bell's fanatical
devotees for pointing out the dishonesty.

Things change, especially after some people are emotionally struck(being
human). I don't claim to be a "devotee" but I read an article on Bell a
couple years ago that stated his listening audience could range from 12

[CTRL] Sources Possible Coverup at Justice Department

2001-01-05 Thread T Nohava

 http://www.foxnews.com/politics/010401/ic_shuster.sml

Sources: Possible Coverup at DOJ
Thursday, January 4, 2001
By David Shuster

WASHINGTON — Senior staff working for Attorney General Janet Reno have
threatened to fire an independent counsel investigating a possible coverup
at the Justice Department, Fox News has learned.

AP/Wide World

Henry Cisneros admitted lying to the FBI.

Independent Counsel Dave Barrett led the investigation of former Clinton
housing secretary Henry Cisneros, who admitted lying to the FBI. According
to sources, for the last 10 months Barrett has been presenting his grand
jury with new evidence alleging that officials at the Justice Department
improperly tried to influence actions by the Internal Revenue Service.

Barrett was warned by senior Justice Department officials to halt his
investigation, but DOJ officials told Fox News that they did not threaten to
fire him.

Barrett's original focus was on Cisneros, who pleaded guilty to a
misdemeanor for lying during an FBI background check.

During his investigation, Barrett uncovered evidence of possible tax fraud
by Cisneros. But Justice Department officials, along with the IRS, said that
aspect of the Cisneros record was beyond the independent counsel's
jurisdiction. After looking at the evidence themselves, the Justice
Department and IRS both refused to pursue the matter.

According to well-placed sources, last year a top lawyer within the IRS
alleged that senior Justice Department officials were attempting to protect
Cisneros. The IRS employee, who is now a whistleblower for the independent
counsel, has reportedly testified that justice officials pressured the IRS
in other cases as well.

Allegations have been made before that the IRS backed off of President
Clinton's friends and stepped up cases against his opponents.

But the investigation at the Washington courthouse marks the first time that
any of these allegations have been reviewed by a federal grand jury. Lawyers
say dozens of IRS employees have testified in recent months. And Fox News
has learned that inspectors general at the IRS and Treasury Departments are
helping with the case.

So far the investigation has not yielded evidence strong enough to warrant
any charges. But sources indicate the probe of the Justice Department still
has a long way to go. When contacted about this story by Fox News, Barrett
refused to comment.

Bush, Gore advisers testify in tape case
Grand jury looking into leak of debate material

01/05/2001

By Pete Slover / The Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN – Top advisers to Al Gore and George W. Bush took turns telling their
tales of the tape Thursday, testifying to a federal grand jury considering
criminal charges in the leaking of presidential debate material.

Meeting in private, the panel in Austin heard about 30 minutes of testimony
from former U.S. Rep. Tom Downey, D-N.Y., about an Austin-postmarked package
he received Sept. 13, when he was helping Mr. Gore prepare for debates
against Mr. Bush.

The parcel, which Mr. Downey turned over to his lawyer and then the FBI,
contained a Bush debate preparation videotape and other illicitly sent,
classified debate materials.

"He testified as to the chronology that has already been made public" and
was asked to identify copies of the mailed documents, Mr. Downey's attorney,
Marc Miller, said in an interview. Mr. Miller also testified.

The lengthiest testimony, about 90 minutes, came from Bush media consultant
Mark McKinnon. His one-time employee, Juanita Yvette Lozano, 30, is the
focus of the FBI investigation into the mailing.

"I continue to cooperate and look forward to a resolution," said Mr.
McKinnon, whose lawyers have been told he is not a target of the inquiry. "I
continue to maintain hope that her story is true, and will do so until I see
some hard evidence to the contrary."

Prosecutors haven't shown Mr. McKinnon their evidence, and his comments
outside the grand jury reflected a less staunch defense of Ms. Lozano than
in the past, when he has insisted on her innocence, no matter what the
evidence.

Although grand jury testimony is secret, Mr. McKinnon previously has said
that Ms. Lozano, as an office manager, had access to the filched materials
and was a trusted and reliable employee.

Ms. Lozano, whose lawyer did not return a call for comment, was captured on
an Austin post-office security camera mailing a package on Sept. 11. She
told investigators and The Dallas Morning News that the film showed her
returning a pair of Mr. McKinnon's mail-ordered pants to the Gap.

But paperwork from the Gap shows the pants arrived there about a week after
the videotaped mailing, suggesting they were mailed later than Ms. Lozano
said.

At her weekly news briefing Thursday, Attorney General Janet Reno declined
to comment on the status of the investigation, which legal experts say could
result in charges of mail fraud or lying to a federal investigator.

Local Democratic officials in Austin said Thursday that Ms. Lozano is a
precinct chairwoman, elected in the March primary – the same time that Mr.
McKinnon's firm, Maverick Media, was working for the Bush campaign.

The Gore campaign has said it had no role in the mailing.

By state Democratic Party rules, the roughly 8,600 precinct chairs statewide
preside at precinct conventions, where issue platforms are drawn up to be
passed on to county conventions. Under local practices, the chairs also
serve or help select paid poll workers for party primaries.

Travis County Democratic Party Executive Director Eddie Rodriguez said he
was not aware until Thursday that Ms. Lozano was a chairwoman. He said she
ran unopposed and was elected to a two-year term as one of 229 precinct
chairman in Travis County.

Ms. Lozano met Mr. McKinnon a decade ago, when she was a volunteer and he
was a consultant for Ann Richard's Democratic campaign for governor. Since
then, she has worked as a McKinnon family baby sitter and for various
Democratic office holders and government agencies.

Ms. Lozano has apparently not testified to the panel, which began
considering the matter last month.

The CEO of Mr. Downey's lobbying firm, Kathleen McLaughlin, also testified
Thursday. The case is being presented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Raymond N.
Hulser, a Washington-based lawyer specializing in election law prosecutions
for the public integrity section of the Justice Department.

Bush spokesman Dan Bartlett said that as far as he knows, no one from that
campaign has been called to testify. And, he said, there's no early
indication that politics will influence the direction of the probe.

"They're not keeping us in the loop," said Bush spokesman Dan Bartlett. "My
understanding is we have not been formally notified of any of this stuff."

The year's 10 most underreported stories
WND's 'Operation Spike' pinpoints major events media ignored

By David Kupelian
© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com

Editor's note: The following look at the past year's top 10 most "spiked"
stories is a short version of the comprehensive 5,000-word cover story in
the January 2001 edition of WorldNet Magazine, WND's monthly print
publication. Readers are invited to subscribe to WorldNet by visiting WND's
online store.

At the close of each year, most news organizations present their
retrospective replays of what they consider to have been the top news
stories in the previous 12 months. However, the editors of WorldNetDaily
have always found it more newsworthy to publish a year-end compilation of
the most important unreported or underreported news events of the year – to
bring forth perhaps for one last time major news stories that were
undeservedly "spiked" by the establishment press.

WND Editor and CEO Joseph Farah has sponsored "Operation Spike" every year
since 1988, and since he founded WorldNetDaily in May 1997, he has continued
the annual tradition. Beginning last year and continuing this season, WND
has invited its readers to join in and submit what they considered the most
underreported stories of 2000 in the site's Operation Spike forum.

Here, with our readers' help, are WorldNetDaily editors' picks for the 10
most underreported stories of the past year.

VOTER FRAUD

Hands down, the biggest – and most underreported – story of 2000 was voter
fraud.

As WorldNetDaily Editor Joseph Farah wrote in "Voter fraud epidemic," "Voter
fraud is epidemic throughout the country. From Miami to L.A., elections have
been won and lost because of illegal voter registration and phony ballot
counts. No wonder fewer and fewer people are bothering to vote. What's the
point? Elections are being rigged. The fix is in. The sanctity of the
American electoral system is not under attack, it is under siege."

An exclusive WND investigation revealed that President Bill Clinton and the
California Democratic Party conspired to mail non-citizens and non-eligible
voters bogus "Voter Identification Cards" to make it easier for them to cast
ballots.

In Florida, Haitian voters were intimidated and coerced by Gore supporters
to vote for the Democratic candidate.

In Wisconsin, the votes of homeless people were purchased for packs of
cigarettes.

In some predominantly Democratic precincts in Texas, 125 percent of
registered voters cast ballots.

But perhaps the most deeply disturbing of all voter fraud stories to emerge
during the election season centered on the military. Reports surfaced that
entire units of U.S. servicemen overseas were denied absentee ballots,
preventing them from voting for their next commander-in-chief.
WorldNetDaily's Jon Dougherty was the preeminent reporter nationally on this
issue, and was first to sound the alarm, even before the election ("Military
missing absentee ballots"), that a significant number of America's military
service personnel were not going to be able to vote in the closest – and by
many accounts the most important – election in memory.
CLINTON, GORE COMPLICITY IN OIL PRICE-HIKES

One of the giant stories of the year, by any news organization's yardstick,
was the unprecedented run-up in oil prices. All but unreported, however,
were some of the hidden, but very real, reasons for the huge increases.

WorldNetDaily was virtually alone among the news media in reporting how the
Clinton administration clearly contributed to the dramatic increase in oil
prices. "Contradictory and self-serving policies," reported Ken Timmerman in
November, "led the Clinton-Gore administration to cause the current
skyrocketing oil prices, say Middle East and petroleum industry analysts."
The former Time magazine correspondent showed how, "by interfering in the
oil markets in 1998 when prices were perceived by some to be too low, the
administration put into motion the huge current run-up of prices, according
to Matthew Simmons, who has tracked oil prices for 30 years as the head of a
Houston-based investment bank, Simmons Co. International.”

Another WorldNetDaily report spotlighting Clinton's and Gore's complicity in
raising oil prices proved to be a blockbuster – featured and discussed for
several consecutive days on the Rush Limbaugh show. In that story, Clinton
approves oil-price hikes, WND disclosed: "Oil ministers from OPEC nations
have quietly told national security advisers on Capitol Hill that the oil
production cutbacks -- and resulting price increases -- are being
implemented at the request of the Clinton administration on behalf of
Russia, Indonesia, Mexico and Iran.

"Russia, Mexico and Indonesia are reported to be directing their increased
oil profits toward paying back overdue Western loans," the article revealed.

[CTRL] High-Living Hillary Taking Charity From the Poor

High-Living Hillary Taking Charity From the Poor

Why does first lady and newly crowned U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton continue to
accept donations to defray her legal expenses from New Yorkers of clearly
modest means, when she just inked an $8 million book deal and owns
multimillion-dollar mansions in New York and Washington, D.C.?

That's what New York Daily News columnist Michael Daly wants to know, after
reviewing some of the records from Clinton's legal expense trust.

Though high-living Hillary has just spent a grand total of $4.6 million on
luxurious digs for herself and her wandering hubby, records show they've
convinced 10,071 Empire staters to fork over their hard-earned cash, lest
staggering legal bills have the Clintons seeking refuge in the poorhouse.

According to Daly, the list includes 200 retirees, 67 teachers, 50 nurses,
31 librarians, 27 members of the clergy, 14 social workers, 10 guards, five
composers and four disabled veterans.

John Marmarinos, a homebound World War II veteran, forked over $20 to help
Hillary handle her legal bills. When Daly tried to locate Marmarinos to find
out if the old vet knew he was, in reality, bankrolling the first lady's
lifestyle-of-the-rich-and-famous, Daly was told that Marmarinos is now in a
nursing home.

Others of modest means from whom the Clintons have taken charity: a disabled
retiree ($50), another man who described himself as "disabled/unemployed"
($25), a woman who listed her occupation as "homemaker-unemployed"($5), two
other unemployed gents who pooled their resources ($20) and a
"widowed-senior citizen" ($10).

Also on the Clintons' fund-raising list: contributions from factory workers,
doormen, mental health workers, welfare caseworkers, home care attendants,
school bus drivers - you name it.

The one thing they all have in common is they come from the lower rungs of
the economic ladder.

Daly pinpoints the supreme irony of the Clintons putting the squeeze on so
many of these poor folks:

"In all, some 70,000 people throughout the country have contributed $8
million toward the [Clintons' legal] fund. That happens to be exactly what
Hillary got as an advance for a book whose main commercial appeal will be
the same scandals that gave rise to the legal bills."

Meanwhile, managers of the Clintons' legal charity are planning a new direct
mail campaign targeting more disabled vets, teachers, factory workers,
librarians and bus drivers - as Hillary shuttles between her two
multimillion-dollar mansions.

[CTRL] Clinton backpedals on lobbying ban -- The Washington Times

  Clinton backpedals on lobbying ban
By Andrew Cain
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Midway between Christmas and New Year's Day, President Clinton revoked
his executive order that barred his top aides from lobbying for five years.

Mr. Clinton had signed the order in his first official act as president
to establish what he called the strictest ethical requirements of any
administration.
He revoked the order Thursday in a press release with no such fanfare.
The order required senior aides to pledge that they would not lobby any
agency they served for five years after leaving the government and that they
would never lobby for any foreign government.
White House aides say the order is unnecessary now that Republican
George W. Bush will take office as president Jan. 20.
"The main policies underlying the executive order no longer apply when
there is a change of parties at the White House," White House Counsel Beth
Nolan said. "Because special access is no longer a concern, the special
measures contained in the executive order are no longer necessary."
White House spokesman Jake Siewert said Mr. Clinton decided "there
isn't much of a question about whether former Clinton appointees would have
undue influence with the members of a Bush administration."
But good-government groups do not buy the argument.
"Now he's repealed it just in time for all these guys to cash in," said
Meredith McGehee, senior vice president of Common Cause, the Washington
watchdog group.
"Anyone who's followed this issue of the revolving door has to be
disappointed that Clinton has decided to repeal the cooling-off period,"
Mrs. McGehee said.
"If there's one thing this town has shown, it's that access and
influence peddling don't necessarily follow party line," she said.
"It's appalling, and it makes my blood boil," added Charles Lewis,
executive director of the Center for Public Integrity.
Clinton aides assisting in the transition will get to know the new Bush
appointees and could use the contacts in lobbying, Mr. Lewis told the
Associated Press.
"For him to set a higher standard and then quietly remove it at the end
of his administration is not just appalling, it's almost breathtaking," Mr.
Lewis said.
Federal law bars most employees from lobbying their former agencies for
a year. The additional restriction applied only to Mr. Clinton's aides.
Mr. Siewert said the Bush administration can decide whether to
reinstate the restrictions.
"We are declining comment, but we will take a look at the executive
orders after the 20th," said Juleanna Glover Weiss, a spokeswoman for Mr.
Bush.
In the 1992 campaign, Mr. Clinton railed against "high-priced lobbyists
and influence peddlers."
"I want to send a signal that we are going to change politics as
usual," Mr. Clinton said in Little Rock, Ark., shortly after he was elected
president in 1992.
Mr. Siewert said think tanks "on both sides of the aisle" believed the
order too broad and "prevented former Clinton administration officials from
calling up and asking the very simplest of questions."
"The president believes that the executive order has served its
purpose," said Mrs. Nolan, the White House counsel.

Hillary snubs New York to buy home in Washington
By Philip Delves, Broughton, in New York

Press releases - The White House

 Hillary 2000

FLUSH with the funds from her lucrative book deal, Hillary Clinton was due
to buy a £2 million house in Washington yesterday.
The senator-elect, who will be sworn in next Wednesday, was buying a
six-bedroom, seven-bathroom Georgian-style house near Embassy Row. The house
will enable her to entertain in grand style and to provide the Clintons'
main family home. The purchase should leave plenty of change from the
estimated £5.3 million book deal. Even so, the couple's friends are rallying
round to buy them fancy dinner services, which up to now they have had
gratis in their government housing.

But while Mrs Clinton unpacks the porcelain, those New Yorkers who argued
that she was using their state merely as a platform for a return to
Washington are now saying: "Told you so." The Clintons' new house purchase
breaks with the tradition by which Presidents and First Ladies, when they
leave the White House, return home. The Reagans went back to California, the
Bushes to Texas, the Carters to Georgia. No First Couple has wanted to hang
around looming over their successors.

But Mrs Clinton wants nothing more to do with Arkansas, her husband's home
state. Her ascent to the Senate and a possible presidential run in 2004 have
put the Clintons on yet another upward trajectory rather than into a slow
fade. Like it or not, the Clintons are neither leaving Washington nor
national life for a good many years yet.

But Mrs Clinton is suddenly realising that if she wants to be a grande dame
she is going to have to pay for it. This is going down badly with her new
constituents, to whom her behaviour since she won election in November has
seemed hubristic. First she went out and signed the deal to write her
memoirs, incurring the condemnation of newspapers across New York state.

The New York Times, for example, said in an editorial: "She above all should
know not every deal that is legally permissible is smart for a politician
who wants and needs to inspire public trust." When pressed by her new Senate
colleagues to present the details of her book deal to the Senate Ethics
Committee, she flatly refused, saying her lawyers told her it was
unnecessary.

Even after all the unpleasant lawyering of the Clinton presidency, it
appeared, Mrs Clinton still preferred to proclaim her virtue behind the
protection of lawyers rather than through openness. Rival executives who
tried to woo her say she was asking for the entire £5.3 million by Jan 31.
They also say that at no point did anyone ask if she would be writing about
Monica Lewinsky. The publishers' delicacy may haunt them if Mrs Clinton
delivers a turgid, scandal-free script.

For now, however, she has her money to cover both her big needs and big
debts. According to the most recent accounts of the Clinton Legal Expense
Trust, set up to pay lawyers in the Clintons' numerous legal battles, it
still owed £2.5 million. Then there is the mortgage on the house in
Chappaqua, the New York suburb where the Clintons bought a white elephant of
a home to establish Mrs Clinton's residency before she stood for the Senate.
After having to turn down a friend's loan because of a political outcry, the
Clintons went to the bank to fund the £1.1 million mortgage.

The couple claim they will hang on to the house and commute from there to
offices in Manhattan. Few believe, however, that suburban life will suit
them. A flat in New York city would be more their style.

Bush Aide Tells Council on Foreign Relations He Will Attack Colombia
"Drug War" Will Be Excuse Says Advisor

 Fri Dec 29 09:55:55 2000
 LSN Staff

Washington, DC -- Bush Adviser Robert Zoellick, who is in
line to become US Trade Representative,
told the Council on Foreign Relations
last month that George Bush will attack
Colombia, according to a news story
 released today by commondreams.org, a
 progressive left-leaning anti-war news
 source.

 0-01.htm)

 According to the article Zoellick
proposed a major policy shift in his
November 7 speech. Though the current
 president of Colombia, Andres Pastrana,
appears on the verge of a peace treaty
to end the 30-year old civil war,
Bush's policy will be to break up any
 peace agreement, and aggressively
pursue a US presence in the South
 America nation.

 Under the guise of supporting
 the "forces of democracy", Zoellick
said the US should fund militia groups
who have tortured and executed at least
 4000 non-combatant civilians, and that
the current policy, of limiting aid to
 anti-drug efforts was misguided,
because South American who oppose the
US agenda and drugs were essentially
 the same thing.

The deal is also likely aimed at
 limiting Cuban influence in the
region. Cuba is a major player in the
 peace negotiations, and recently
negotiated the release of 42 Colombian
soldiers and policement who had been
 taken prisoner by the guerillas.

The Council on Foreign Relations is
a "think tank" group that believes war
and government should be used to
further the interests of big business.
The incoming Secretary of State, Colin
Powell, is a prominent member of the
 Council.

Amen Duncan!

I could really "go off" on this one but I've seen too many narrow minded
people here in the 3-4 years I've been on this list and don't care to engage
in any debate here. There's no question though...this broad has some serious
toys in her head!

 -Caveat Lector-

This is an excellent site for those who know nothing about the
 dangers to our
society coming from the New Age movement and those who wish to learn more
about this very extensive topic. Hannah Newman, a Jewish researcher who
lives in Israel, recently sent out a notice about her site as follows:

"My new, greatly expanded and updated research on New Age antisemitism is
 now on line.
 Go to:
 http://homestead.virtualjerusalem.com/antisemitism/index.html"

This is some of the most unbelievable crap I have ever read.

This is on a par with the 2 + 2 = 5 Jewish Conspiracy theories out there,
except now we are expected to believe that the 'new age movement' is a
 coherent, organised plan.

I feel qualified to comment here, as I helped push the new age movement
 in Australia.

 I am not anti-semitic, anti-jewish, or anti-anything. I believed that
the Christian option was lacking, and I wanted to explore yoga,
 meditation and other philosophies.

This bimbo is expecting us to believe that virtually all non-mainstream
religions are part of a sinister plan to wipe out Jews. Talk about
paranoid - it would be funny if it weren't so scary that people out there
 believe such drivel.

I put to you all that this woman is part of an evil plan to isolate and
vilify anyone not part of an 'established' religion.

Established religions control their followers via their belief systems,
but the rest of us are now 'new agers', to be isolated and vilified for
our crime of not 'belonging' to a major belief system.

I have been to Findhorn Community, I have lived on communes, I have
organised festivals and activities, conferences, and published magazines,
all promoting peaceful ideology via diet, attitude and environment.

I KNOW the new age movement. It is totally disorganised, incoherent, and
until Shirley Maclaine and Oprah Winfrey came along, it was lacking in
 credibility and viability.

There are certainly sinister elements that come along and wave their flag
under the new age movement's banner.

In a world facing fragmentation and uncertainty, the last thing we need
is more rubbish of this calibre.

Hannah, there is no Jewish conspiracy to wipe out non-Jews, and there is
no New Age conspiracy to wipe out Jews. You should go out and smell the
 roses and get a life!

Why is it that Conservative Blacks are less inclined to hype their

Jackson is a Democrat hack. His job is to lead American Blacks
around by the nose. He's a millionaire who NEVER had a real job.
He's a member of the CFR.

He's the guy who wants to convince Americans that a scumbag like
Al Gore is good for poor people and Blacks. After the last eight
years, one would have to be truly stupid or ignorant not to know
what Clinton and Gore have done to poor people during their stint

American Blacks were completely disregarded by this administration

FEDERAL JUDGE GOES TO WHITE HOUSE FOR SURPRISE INSPECTION OF
 E-MAIL TAPES

Judge Wanted to Personally Inspect Security Conditions of White
 House E-Mail Tapes

Surprise Inspection Took Place November 6, 2000

(Washington, DC) A federal court judge, The Honorable Royce
Lamberth, conducted a surprise inspection of e-mail tapes at the
Clinton-Gore White House that had been previously been hidden
from him and another investigators. The inspection, announced
today during a court hearing, took Judge Lamberth gave the White
House two hours notice of his inspection.

Judge Lamberth said that he examined the area where the tapes
housing the e-mail were stored, and examined logs showing who had
access to the tapes. He also examined the security of procedures
used to copy the tapes for production of e-mail to the Court.
Judge Lamberth also reminded White House official Charles Easley,
the successor to Craig Livingstone (of FBI files infamy), that he
would him personally accountable if anything happened to the
tapes. Easley now has custody of the e-mail tapes. Judge Lamberth
announced that he was confident that the tapes were secure for
 now.

The tapes at issue contain Clinton-Gore White House e-mail that
had been hidden from Judge Lamberth and other investigators for
nearly two years. Judicial Watch uncovered the e-mail through
White House whistleblower Sheryl Hall, who said that White House
officials threatened Northrop Grumman computer contractors to
keep the e-mail secret. The scandal is being pursued by Judicial
Watch in its ongoing Filegate civil lawsuit on behalf of those
Reagan and Bush staffers and others whose FBI files were taken
and misused by this White House.

We applaud Judge Lamberth for conducting the surprise inspection
to ensure that the Clinton-Gore White House is not tampering with
e-mail evidence. Judicial Watch still believes, however, that the
best way to secure the e-mail tapes is for the Court to take
custody directly, as the temptation to destroy the evidence will
only increase with the impending end of the Clinton-Gore
Administration, stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Re: [CTRL] Bush Finally Admits DUI Arrest

2000-11-04 Thread T Nohava

-Caveat Lector-

At least Clinton/Gore balanced the budget for a change, as opposed to
300 Billion + deficits and sluggish economy during the Reagan/Bush years.

Carter was too blind to figure out the future effects of inflation. We bit
the bullet for a couple years until we had a run of prosperity.

Now we have an booming economy,

Yes

 and a budget surplus.

Heh heh heh... I.O.U.'s

 I guess some
would like to return to the failed ways of the past. Get a few
 hundred more
dollars back from a tax cut,

Clinton either lied, told us what we wanted to hear or didn't know what the
hell he was promising us. I think it was all of the former. I curious as to
where all this money is coming from with all these new programs Gore is
promising us.

 with higher interest rates,

Didn't Greenspan hike interest rates a while back???

 higher unemployment,

Well we've got alot of jobs...too bad they don't pay spit.

 soaring medical costs, etc.

Heh heh heh...evidently you haven't looked at your paycheck stub recently or
don't have any hospitalization. Mine increases 50 cents per hour next week
and they informed us it will go up another 20 cents per hour next June.

Just give the big companies a big tax break
and everything will be ok! I think you are dreaming...

You're gonna have to get back in this reality. Something has to be done
here. In Michigan we've had a bustling economy but...in our local area alone
we've lost a General Motors Plant 8000 workers, most of the production
facilities at Kellogg's Cereals, we had a Monsanto merger with
Pharmacia/Upjohn with over 2000 jobs lost and we're waiting on the rumored
American Home Products buyout/merger where they buyout and trash what they
don't want. But then that's Ok cause we keep getting these Fast Food
Restaurants on every street corner for job security.

I remember when James Blanchard (democrat) was last Governor here, things
seemed peachy until our 16 billion dollar debt caught up with us. John
Engler(republican) found the "books were cooked" cleaned up the debt and put
us on a surplus. We could have a rude awakening if Bush gets in and has a
bunch of "Pro's" sort through the books that were handled by Clinton's
Cronie's. Bush is smart enough to surround himself with qualified
professionals and not "good old buddies".

I still like to say I'm non-partisan but enough is enough. We need a little
bit of both but it's time to get a republican in there to sort through it
all and see what we've really got. Gore's making too many promises and
trying to be too many things to too many people just like Clinton did. He's
telling us what we want to hear.

  Military missing absentee ballots
Some Army, Navy personnel unable to vote for new commander in chief

By Jon E. Dougherty
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com

Members of the military who are currently stationed overseas have complained
that the Pentagon has not yet sent out absentee ballots this year, meaning
they will not get to vote for a new commander in chief on Tuesday.

Specifically, members of U.S. Navy units who are stationed overseas and
aboard the USS Cole -- the destroyer recently attacked by terrorists while
it was undergoing refueling in the port of Aden, Yemen -- have either not
received ballots or won't get them in time because of current deployment
circumstances, Pentagon officials said yesterday.

"I've heard about this within the past week," said Lt. Dave Guy, a spokesman
for the Army. "We are trying to get more information. We don't know if they
were delayed through the mail."

He added that due to current deployment considerations, some military
members overseas likely would not get their ballots in time.

"The support team for the USS Cole may not get their ballots due to
intermittent mail," Guy said. "Some ballots could very well be delayed for a
number of reasons."

A Maine resident -- who asked not to be identified -- said her Navy daughter
who is stationed in Tokyo has received her absentee ballot for every
election except this one.

"No one at the base will be voting because all the absentee ballots are
missing," she told WorldNetDaily.

Navy officials were also contacted but did not return phone calls.

Critics have suggested that the Clinton administration may have purposely
delayed sending absentee ballots to military personnel overseas because
most, according to recent surveys, will vote Republican. The White House has
denied those charges.

According to Guy, officials with the Federal Voting Assistance Program --
which helps manage balloting for overseas service members -- "was not aware
of any group non-delivery."

Guy said depending on the home state of the member, ballots can be sent via
Standard Form 136, which is a write-in ballot. States have different
deadlines for such ballots, he added.

Each ballot "is unit specific and handled individually," he said.

Guy noted that "the military has a much higher participation [of overall
voters] in the voting process" than does the general voting public. In the
1996 election, he said 64 percent of service members participated; 40
percent of those were absentee ballots. Twelve percent could not vote for
various reasons, including because ballots were either sent late or
otherwise not received on time.

In defense of
"Eagle" I VIVIDLY remember it well and didn't see it aired recently. Seems like
it was a tour of DC they and their wives were on and remember Gore gazing at
these busts that lined the upper portion of a wall while making that statement.
The first thought that came to my mind was "Well...here we go...this is gonna
get good". I also waited for the tax cut Clinton promised us in his first
campaign...what did we get...a Tax Increase. Clinton and Gore in my opinion have
and are making promises they can't keep. I like to think I'm non-partisan and
don't care for either candidate but would have to decide against Gore in this
campaign.

Asteroid Nearly Hits Earth, NASA Silent...10/31/00
   by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

Late yesterday night, a large NEA (near earth asteroid) 600 meters in
size came close enough to the Earth to be named a "near miss". NASA
astronomers have named this asteroid "Toutatis". It is one of the
largest known "Potentially Hazardous Asteroids" (PHAs) and
 its orbit is
   inclined less than half-a-degree from Earth's. Definition..(PHA)
   http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/neo/pha.html
Why was NASA silent on such a large event? Did they not know it was
coming? The answer is a very suspicious NO. According to NASA's own
article, they did know of its presence, and for some time. Why was the
public not notified? It's not as if they have not been public of other
   NEO's.
In the last month, I have seen no less than ten articles on
 Eros. So why
the sudden surprise with this one? Is NASA so dense to think that
suppressing information, then releasing after the fact will
 only enhance
suspicion and speculation. I believe this is not only self-defeating,
but reckless, and irresponsible. In 1997 or '98, a press
 release was put
out stating "Toutatis was an unpredictable asteroid with unreliable
   trajectories"...

HOW to GET the CENSUS SHORT FORM

CENSUS DATA USED in 1942 Roundup and Imprisonment of JAPANESE AMERICANS

CENSUS GOOD NEWS 1-800-471-9424 CENSUS COMPLAINT LINE

You can get out of filling out the long form, I will
explain how below my initial comments and
backgrounder. Also did you know that JAPANESE
AMERICANS during WWII were rounded up and interned in
concentration camps here in America and that the
information used to determine who was Japanese and
where they lived was CENSUS DATA ? That is right,
CENSUS DATA was used in the round up and internment of
JAPANESE AMERICANS right here in the UNITED STATES of
AMERICA. So dont give me this bull that this data is
never SHARED, whatever the frig.

'Lucky' me got the long form, there are actually SEVEN
DIFFERENT forms according to the Census CONTRACTOR I
spoke with. What is up with that ? How do they pick
who gets what form. I called their 800 number, and I
asked if I was speaking to a government employee or a
private contractor, she replied contractor, so I asked
who paid her, and she said a private company but would
NOT reveal the name of the private company. Before I
spoke with her, I had made the mistake of calling from
a home phone. I spoke with a male whose first
question was, "Could you please verify your area code
?", to which I replied, "Dont play games with me, you
already know the entire phone number, DONT YOU, to
which he at first replied "no", then upon my further
insistance he replied that "he did", to which I
replied, "Could you please tell me what phone number I
am calling from ?", to which he replied, "Sure", and
sure enough he did, he read me back the ENTIRE number
from which I had called, at which point I asked, "Is
this call being recorded ?", at which point he
replied, "I am not at liberty to tell you," at which
point I persisted, upon which he then admitted, "YES,
this call is being recorded, and has already been
logged into the computer along with my comments about
my displeasure and refusal to send in the form and my
comments about the JAPANESE AMERICAN's being rounded
up based on CENSUS DATA", at which point I said I was
calling from a friend's house and that it was not
really fair to mt friend that he should have the call
logged when I was not calling from my own house," to
which he replied, "It is too late, it is already
entered into the computer along with the recording",
to which I responded, "This is outrageous, and that
this was not fair to my friend whose phone I was
calling from", to which he responded, "What is the
name of the form I had in my hand, in the lower left
hand corner", to which I replied, "it is my friend's
form, not mine, besides, I thought there were only two
different forms, a long and a short", to which he
replied, "No, there are actually SEVEN DIFFERENT
FORMS", I said, "Wow, and tried to terminate the call,
but he kept insisting he wanted to know which form was
in my hand even though it was NOT my form but my
friend's, and finally I just said thanks and that I
would call him back when I get my form, and I hung
up

Then I called back, and got a lady, who asked me,
"Could you please verify your area code", upon which I
replied, "Dont play games with me, I know damn well
you know my entire number as I just got off the phone
3 seconds ago with a guy at 'census', actually
department of COMMERCE, who knew the number I was
calling from down to the last digit, and you are LYING
to me, so give me your supervisor", to which she
repsonded, "I am not lying to you, hold on while I get
my floor supervisor". I then spoke with the floor
supervisor who was very friendly and sympathetic and
who assured me that they did NOT have my entire
number. She said that all she could tell was that I
was either calling from Puerto Rico, or OTHER, so
either she is lying, or the first guy I spoke with was
at another division that had caller id capabilities,
who knows, but the floor supervisor became VERY
understanding when I related to her the history of
AMERICAN PRISON CAMPS of JAPANESE AMERICANS ROUNDED UP
via CENSUS DATA. She was SHOCKED to hear this, and at
this point

Heh heh heh...that's what I thought...if ya wanna "talk the talk" you better
understand what a programmer basically refers to as "code". It is written
"code", meaning type written executable code. Yes technically a jpg is code,
binary but then everything is. A jpg is "data" referenced by an executable
to display it as a picture. No you can't put any executable code in a jpeg
and keep the integrity of the picture. Your statement is misinformation and
irresponsible and probably making others here too paranoid to display a jpg.

I haven't written any code for ten years or more now but I haven't forgotten
that much!

I'd sure like to see some code in a jpg.

 A .jpg IS code.

So they're booby-trapped with embeded trojans. So what? It happens
everyday. It ain't supernatural, it's programming. Instead of wondering
which ghost cause the image to dissapear, wonder what ELSE the trojan(s)
have done to your hard drive, and what else they are doing right now to
your system even as you read this. Are they, for example, spying on you?
 Did the booby-trap include D.I.R.T. or B. O.?

And if that wasn't enough to worry about, there's "web bugs," single pixal
sized dots, transparent, in your email itself, that do a script when open
the email. They're most often used to monitor who is reading a web page or
reading an email. They can also be found in certain newsgroups. They
could concievably be put to some very sinister purposes, indeed.

Governor posts inaccurate info on gun deaths

August 28, 1999

The Orange County Register

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gray Davis' office Friday overstated by more than 10 times
the number of children killed in accidental shootings in California.

In a news release issued by the governor's office and posted on the
governor's Internet page, Davis said 675 children died last year in
accidental shootings and 2,000 had perished in the past six years.

In fact, no numbers are available for such deaths in 1998.

The most recent figures from the state Health Services Department show that
seven children under 15 died from accidental gunshot wounds in 1997. Another
34 people 15 to 24 died in such shootings.

A study by the Violence Prevention Center said 675 children under 18 died in
1996 from gunshot wounds.

A Davis spokeswoman said the error occurred when a press aide writing the
release misinterpreted numbers in a speech prepared for Davis.

The governor's office pulled the errant release from the Internet after
inquiries from The Orange County Register.

[CTRL] GATE$: MY DOUGH WILL GO BEFORE I LOG OFF

GATE$: MY DOUGH WILL GO BEFORE I LOG OFF

 By KIRSTEN DANIS

The richest man in the world is giving almost all of it away.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife plan to devote most of their $105
billion fortune to wiping out deadly diseases such as AIDS and malaria, the
Sunday Times of London reported today.

"Melinda and I want our children - and all children - to grow up in a world
without AIDS," Gates said.

The astonishing move would turn Gates' charitable foundation into by far the
biggest benefactor in the world.

But the billionaire computer geek won't leave his two kids in the poor
house - he's setting aside $21 million for their inheritance.

The William H. Gates Foundation, the family charity run by Gates' father,
will announce in the next three months how it plans to become the largest
charity on Earth.

"My son is going to have critics all his life because of his wealth. But I'm
optimistic we have put to rest any criticism on the basis of his not being
sufficiently generous," Gates Sr. told the newspaper.

The foundation now has about $10.3 billion in its coffers, making it the
fifth largest private charity in the world. The London-based Glaxco Wellcome
Foundation is the largest, with $16.6 billion.

Now embroiled in an anti-trust suit with the federal government, Gates Jr.,
43, expects to cash out his Microsoft holdings and divert almost all of his
wealth to the foundation before he and his wife die.

Most of the money would be devoted to the search for vaccines for killer
communicable diseases.

Gates Jr. and Melinda have been worried about world health issues since
visiting South Africa and India in 1995, his father said.

Earlier this year, Gates gave $2.23 billion to the William H. Gates
Foundation and $1.11 to the Gates Learning Foundation. He also gave $20
million to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Gates, father of the Windows operating system, has come under fire for
making relatively paltry donations - especially computer gifts critics
contend hook young users on his product.

But Gates, a self-made man, has read Andrew Carnegie's "The Gospel of Truth"
several times and loves the quote, "The man who dies rich dies in disgrace."

Subject: [CTRL] CONTRAIL ALERT - N. California

  -Caveat Lector-

Contrails are being laid over Northern California from Eureka south to the
San Francisco Bay area and Sacramento.

The weathern pattern is sweeping these contrails to the south across the
 state.

I am noticing breathing difficulties and a chemical taste where I
 live N. of
SF and can see contrails which are creating heavy haze and cloud
 formations.

 Steve

Re: [CTRL] Can any verify this?

1999-04-15 Thread T Nohava

"Executive Orders are for selling and purchasing of land. And nothing
else, in fact there is NO Constitutional Amendment to create
 an EO. And
until there is these EOs are NULL VOID!!!"

I may be wrong, but I always thought an EO was a way of
 circumventing the
US constitution as their authority rests on the President, whom I assume
makes sure he has enough support in the House and Senate before issuing
one. As for null and void, technically they probably are but like many
"temporary" political meaures (income tax springs to mind) they would
likely be upheld by the US courts as having garnered a certain
"legitimacy" by their unchallenged use and the presumed consensus (?)
reached before the issuance of them.

  Jamieson

An Executive Order is a military term. All military
 establishments have a board
when two thing are posted every day. 1. the orders of the day.
 and 2. The XO's
Executive Orders. Lincoln was the first to use and EO. It
 happened just after
the South Left the Union. When the South left, they no longer
 had a consensus to
conduct business. Lincoln declared a National Emergency,
 declared martial law and
began issuing EO's. We've been under Martial Law every since.
 Jim Norman

I think you're correct Jim, in that technically we've been under martial
since then. It's been my understanding that an EO written by the President
has to be qualified in some way by members (maybe a subcommittee perhaps) of
Congress. If the EO is enacted it is the law for six months and then
Congress meets to decide if the EO should be continued. The problem I feel
is allot can happen in six months for which no one can do anything about.

Read about that one years ago in the newsgroups.

Did anyone else read a statement in our newspapers last year that
 came out of
France that claimed that Glenn Miller had died of a heart attack
 in a Paris
brothel? I was astounded, but here was no further comment nor a
 retraction.

[CTRL] Bill and St. Peter

1999-02-23 Thread T Nohava

Clinton died and went to heaven -- or to be more accurate
--approachedthe gates. After knocking at the gates, St. Peter appeared.
Who goesthere? inquired St. Peter. It's me, Bill
Clinton And what do you want? asked St. Peter. Lemme
in! replied Clinton. S, pondered Peter. What bad
things did you do on earth? Clinton thought a bit and answered,
Well, I smoked marijuana but youshouldn't hold that against me because
I didn't inhale. I guess I hadextra-marital sex -- but you shouldn't hold
that against me because Ididn't really have 'sexual relations.' And I lied,
but I didn't commitperjury. After several moments of deliberation
St. Peter replied, OK, here's thedeal. We'll send you someplace
where it is very hot, but we won't call it'Hell.' You'll be there for an
indefinite period of time, but we won'tcall it 'eternity.' And don't
'abandon all hope' upon entering, just don't hold your breathwaiting for it
to freeze over.
