Mainstream Xianity is polytheism masquerading as monotheism.
The deities worshipped by the various Judeo/Xian/Muslim sects

I would like to take this opportunity to caution everyone that proselytizing is not acceptable here. So take everything with a grain of salt and let's not let tempers flare. Having said that I have a couple of comments. First, ALL religions REQUIRE faith. There is no way around it. There simply is not enough evidence for it to be established as historical fact. Take Jesus for instance. There are many scholars who have done extensive research who conclude that he is a myth. Others disagree. I tend to think that there was a man who, at least loosely, fit the description for the person we know as Jesus Christ. As for his divinity, his claim (or that of those who followed him?) to be THE son of God, and all of the other trappings that surround his life it ALL requires faith. I would never try to dissuade anyone from a position of faith as it is a losing battle. There is always a fall back position, or recalcitrance. That is what makes this subject so difficult to deal with objectively. Judaism, and Islam fare no better. Though there seems to be no disagreement as to whether Mohammed lived, as for what he did and his claims to a special relationship with Allah, that again is a matter of faith. In discussing religion it is difficult to do so without our reason being affected by the foundations of our beliefs and our faith. Should someone earnestly believe that Jesus lives in them and they thereby have everlasting life, and they have peace of mind and are happy then more power to them! Whatever spirituality you wish to have, or none at all, is acceptable and should be acknowledged as such. You don't have to believe it but allow others to share their views. As for Christianity and Jesus I believe that much of what we have today is a construct that was derived from Paul and others mostly long after Jesus disappeared from the scene. It incorporates some mythology, some mystery religion, and some Judaism. Religion, and especially Christianity, due to it's hold on the west's spirituality, is a control mechanism in every sense of the word. Meant to control ones actions in some fashion. For some it is a way of life that is acceptable because it is in tune with their own inner thoughts and desires. For others it is abhorrent, serving only to try and diminish ones own personal feelings. Remember religious discussion should be done in such a way that we do not attack faith and belief but should present arguments that support the position you take, whether for or against. And remember we are a conspiracy list so this should have some bearing on the discussion. Religion IS a conspiracy in every sense of the word. It's as true now as it has ever been. Jamieson I haven't read the book, but from what I see here, I must agree with Yardbird to some extent. The Jesus myth is based on a real person. The Jesus myth was readily accepted by the pagan world because Paul, the inventor of Christianity, tailored it to the well known mythologies of the day. Godlings from god and human parents were common and easily acceptable to every culture except the Jews who rightly saw it as idolatry and were forbidden to go there by the Bible. There is enough evidence to show conclusively the Jeshua was real because he left a movement well documented in the history ( not the Gospels )of the first century. Most of this history focusses on his brother James and the movement he continued after Jeshua's ( Jesus' ) death.
