Yahoo! News - Gnutella Developer Gene Kan, 25, Commits Suicidehe wasn't a
napster dude. he was a Gnutella dude. napster sold out anyway to bertlesman
(sp.?) and has appointed the original creator as ceo. or something. so the
corporates achieved what they wanted without murder. i am pretty sure the
commercial napster enterprise has filed bancruptsy now too.

and killing a developer of Gnutella is not really worth thinking about.
Gnustella was/ is sweet because it is open source and killing him, now that
it is alredy created, would be like murdering the chap who developed the
original Linux. pointless as it has already been made and spread open
sourced throughout the world.
the software corp's style is to employ these maverick programmers. this
gnutella dude was working for Sun.

2002-07-10 Thread c.

-Caveat Lector-

like i said, in the realms of the sciences, the powers that be, whoever they
are, prefer to embrace the talent rahter than kill it.. even if the talent
will not come onside, there is always more to be had from watching and
listening, much more benefit. anyway... he was working for Sun for
goodnessakes... they are not the christ to the anti-christ of microsoft or
anything ... they *are* the big nasty corps that would be killing him if he
didn't want to play their way.

open source is here- because of people like him. there is no turning back
the clock. the shares example you use is great, but already it is
superseded... i occaisionally gamble online- when our gambling was taxed in
the uk then i could avoid it by playing online rather than through a
bookmaker (broker ?). no-one died. the same will happen wiuth shares and all
commodities. it is already happening.

i am not sure why you think you have an argument at all with waht
distributed processing is... i use it regularly for 3d work and i would
rather have lots of BIG computers all working together rather than lots of
small ones as you suggest.. it is not mutually exclusive. so i don't get why
Sun would have a problem. to do distributed computing, you still nbeed the
operating system and the hardware to be talking to eachother- so , servers
are still needed, no? etc etc.

I disagree, strongly.
This guy was only 25, and had already managed an end run against corporate
control of file-sharing. He was a genius they couldn't bear to leave alive.

For example, if his next program was peer-to-peer stock trading, there would
be no need for the Elite's Gambling-disguised-as-Stock
Markets-fraud-generation-scheme known as Stock Exchanges.

His current work for Sun was in the realm of distribuited computing.
Sun is known for it's Solaris operating system, a large scale operating
system for powerful server computers, which is buggier and less secure than
Microsoft offerings, but with such a narrow market, seldom forced to fix
it's insecurities.

Distribuited computing means making many small computers do the work of
one big one, eliminating the need for the sort of computers Solaris runs on.
If a network server's work were distribuited among the spare cycles of a
huge number of peer computers, there would be no central server to be shut
down or hacked.

The Elites plotting against us want a top-down Master-slave relationship.
Peer-to-peer relationships is what scares them most.

They killed him not for what he has already done, but what he could have
accomplished in the future, if there were to be one.
