   Buoyed by growing political acceptance of homosexuals worldwide, a
 United Nations group promoting gay and lesbian rights met in New York

 to sharpen a multi-pronged strategy that includes a showdown with
 religion.

 The meeting was sponsored by the U.N. Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual
 Employees, known as UNGLOBE, a group officially recognized by the
 worldwide body in 1996.

 At a forum Monday, attended briefly by U.N. Secretary General Kofi
 Annan, panel members singled out Roman Catholics and evangelical
 Protestants as opponents, according to the New York-based Catholic
 Family and Human Rights Institute.

 Speakers included U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., who urged Congress
 to withhold support for a free trade agreement with Muslim-majority
 Egypt because of its treatment of homosexuals.

 Paula Ettelbrick, executive director of the San Francisco-based
 International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, or IGLHRC,
 announced a coming showdown with religion and vowed Pope John Paul
 II's call to arms against homosexual marriage would be successfully
 combated.

 Another panel member, Princeton University professor Anthony Appiah,
 wondered whether or not religion should be limited, as it poses a
 challenge to the homosexual agenda.

 To thunderous applause, Svend Robinson, a member of the Canadian
 parliament, told the Catholic Church to clean up your own house
 before criticizing the morality of homosexuals.

 Robinson criticized Roman Catholic Bishop Frederick Henry of Calgary,
 calling his actions in defense of traditional marriage unbelievable.

 The deputy mocked born again Christians, asking, Did they have to
 come back again as themselves?

 As WorldNetDaily reported, Robinson is the sponsor of a bill that would

 add sexual orientation as a protected category in Canada's genocide and

 hate crimes legislation. Opponents believe it would criminalize public
 expression against homosexual behavior, including making quotations
 from the Bible.

 The U.N. group that hosted the event is pressing the United Nations to
 recognize same-sex couples and treat their partnerships as equal to
 traditional marriages.

 Carol Bellamy, executive director of the U.N. Children's Fund, or
 UNICEF, sent a message of support to the conference.

 Annan told panel members the world should become much more tolerant
 and compassionate.

 I think what is important is that we should stress those positive
 aspects in our society, the things that bring us together, and move
 away from discrimination and persecution, the secretary general said.

 At a news conference last week, the Atlantic Monthly reported, Annan
 was asked to comment on the debate over what constitutes a family.

 I believe that individuals should be allowed to make their own choices

 and that we should be careful not to draw conclusions or adopt
 prejudicial attitudes towards people for their choices and
 preferences, he said. That's not something I think this organization
 should get involved in.

 Mark Malloch Brown, administrator of the U.N. Development Program, sent

 a statement to the organizers, stating, Discrimination based on sexual

 incensed Irishman whacking some other oafish Irishman upside his noggin or
 slicing
 him up like corned beef. These are the immigrants and the sons of immigrants
 from
 Northwest Europe, and we all know how evil those places are. Plus, they come
 here
 at a time when Big Brother Guv’mint Welfare is not there to rescue them from
 immediate poverty, which we all know is an excuse for violent criminal

Poor people and new immigrants to this country are really peace-loving
 pacifists, but they are forced into a life of violent crime by evil Capitalist

 Lincoln into hero status. People in the North and the South in 1863 knew that

 War Between The States was unnecessary. For a great book that makes the case
 for Southern secession, check out When In The Course Of Human Events, by
 Charles Adams. He really rips into the Gettysburg Address in that one.

The PC pops out of Gangs O’NY like a cork from an Irish whiskey bottle.
 In this
 story, there are good drunken Irishmen and bad drunken Irishmen. Only the bad
 drunken Irishmen say scurrilous things about President Lincoln. One of them
 even
 throws a knife at Lincoln’s picture; lodging a meat cleaver smack dab in the

 Abe’s bushy eyebrows. These are the same bad drunken Irishmen who do not want

 Israel would support any American action, and would respect U.S. decisions

 Foreign Minister Shimon Peres sent a similar message yesterday during an
 interview with CNN television. The problem today is not if, but when, he
 said, adding that while attacking now would be quite dangerous...
 postponing it would be more dangerous, as he [Saddam] will have more
 weapons.

 But like Sharon, Peres also added a disclaimer, saying he did not want to be
 seen as urging the United States to act and that America should act

 Preemptive warnings of fantastic scenarios

 Day after day and seemingly deliberately, someone else fans the flames of
 hysteria about the possibility that an American campaign against Iraq will
 bring a nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) attack on Israel. After the flaws
 in the old protective kits were revealed and raised the sense of danger from
 toxic gases, there followed anxieties about terrible epidemics of anthrax
 and smallpox and fears of nuclear radiation.

 Those fanning the anxiety are doing it in a sophisticated, indirect way,
 through comments and leaks about being prepared for the threats. These are
 ostensibly meant to relieve public fears and prove that the authorities are
 ready for action in even the worst cases of existential danger.

 After the statements about the need for mass vaccinations and issuing pills
 against radiation sickness, the public should be catatonic by now. But there
 seems to be no panic, and there is a distinct lukewarm response to calls to
 bring protective kits to be refurbished. The decision makers seem more
 anxious than the public - maybe they are afraid of future complaints about
 failures, or maybe there are interests at work beyond the narrow matter of
 being ready for any threats.

 Public hysteria will no doubt peak when the authorities announce a
 voluntary inoculation campaign, placing responsibility in the hands of the
 citizens, and taking it out of the hands of the authorities, who will then
 be able to say they only provided what the public wanted.

 But fanning anxiety with reports of Home Front readiness are not only
 about defensive measures. They are also about declarations by the Sharon
 government that this time (as opposed to the Gulf War of 1991) Israel will
 certainly respond to any Iraqi attack. The

associate with the world's No. 1 hawk, Richard Perle, who has been the
chief architect of our policy toward the Arab/Islamic world. There is no
single American more responsible for inciting outrage among Muslims

last week's cataclysm. It was no surprise to me to see Richard on CNN's
EvansNovak, Hunt Shields program on Sunday, calling for all-out war
against the Arab world with a coalition entirely composed of western
Europeans. If he were just an ordinary maniac, we could live with him,
Henry, but he is chairman of the Defense Policy Board, which advises the
Pentagon, and which gives him total access to all military secrets. Do
you have any doubt that he is now in constant communication with Ariel
Sharon and Binjamin Netanyahu, the leaders of the coo-coo wing of the
Likud Party in Israel?

Over the last four decades, since I first met both you and Richard in
the first year of the Nixon administration in 1969, I always associated
you with the moderates, like the late Sen. Jacob Javits of New York, who
would look for diplomatic solutions to conflict.

Richard, who was then a 25-year-old boy wonder who worked for Sen. Henry
(Scoop) Jackson, Washington Democrat, was a protege of Albert
Wohlstetter, who played hawk to your dove in our dealings with the
Soviet Union. Back then, I was allied with Wohlstetter, a Cold War hawk,
although I at least had an appreciation of your views. Now I see you
practically in lockstep with Perle, who we have always known as the
Prince of Darkness, a master of disinformation who helped us win the
Cold War, and who now wants to bring the Muslim world to its knees.

You know how these things work, Henry.

There are basically two approaches to solving the problem of terrorism.
One is that you understand the mind of the terrorist in order to
establish defenses against it.

The other is that you kill all the terrorists and all the potential
terrorists. Richard would certainly not flinch at that possibility,
although I'm sure he would think we would only have to kill a
significant fraction of the 1.25 billion Muslims before the rest got
the message.

Before their deaths, Wohlstetter and former president Richard Nixon had
designed our policy toward Iraq, by which the U.S. would allow Iraqi
civilians to die of starvation and disease until the people were so
miserable they would topple Saddam Hussein. I've noted a number of times
in this space that 1.5 million Iraqi civilians have died thusfar,
according to the United Nations, because of a policy designed by two
dead men, now carried out by Wohlstetter's proteges, with Perle at the
top of that deadly totem poll. Nixon, I'm sure, could not have imagined
Saddam would still be in power after all these years.

You know as well as
I do that it has been criminal for our government to pretend to the
American people that the embargo would have been lifted on Iraq if
Saddam complied with the 1991 UN resolutions. Insofar as you have known
this and done nothing about it, I suppose I would have to list you on
the negative side of last week's equation.

Remember when Madeleine Albright, our UN Ambassador, was asked by Lesley
Stahl on 60 Minutes if it were worth the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi
children to keep the embargo on, and without hesitation, Madeleine said
it surely was.

Richard Perle, I'm sure, cheered her statement. So did Paul Wolfowitz,
Perle's acolyte, who is now Deputy Defense Secretary.

Our Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, probably flinched at the
comment, as he still has some sense left, but Don still follows Perle's
lead, as he has since the Ford Administration. When Wohlstetter was the
big intellectual cheese at the Rand Corporation, he brought Rumsfeld in
on the Rand board, where he was fully indoctrinated on how to end wars
and how to start them. In 1996, when the GOP came up with the Dole/Kemp
ticket, I did my best to come up with ideas on how Bob Dole could
present a more diplomatic image to the American people.

Alas, Dole had Perle at his side. When President Clinton bombed Iraq on
Labor Day, to kick off his re-election campaign, he violated the War
Powers Act. But Dole quickly praised the bombing and other Republicans,
whose staffs include members of the Perle network on Capitol Hill,
immediately complained that Clinton should have dropped bigger bombs.

saddam? is:

who will fill the power vacuum?

look at Haiti - ( around the same time period as the gulf war) for better or
worse, there was a democratically elected govt. to install waiting in the
wings.

So what are the choices if he is killed.. either another crazy general, or a

Who is we ?  We, from where I can imagine you're sitting, is
reposing in a nicely comfortable abode with central heat and hot and
cold running water.  Whether it's dreams of streaking across the sky
over Afghanland or France (as you suggest) or Britland (the more
likely candidate), the we that you so generously use is probably
thinking about what outfit to wear to the next Nouvelle Cuisine
soiree' to reminisce about them good old dayze when Bill Jeff was in
your sights, but not in your clutches.

I notice there's a LOT of use by the mediacracy of the word we.  It

may be used by you or Jonah or some of the other limelit luminaries,
those who probably were never subject to real, actual, physical
inclusion and participation in the military, those who slept with
their deferments under their pillows (if not down their shorts), all
of those who are able boosters, those not quite on the cheerleading
squad nor even close to being on the team.  We is not they.

Of course, I may be wrong: you (collectively if not individually) may

have coerced or co-opted the local recruiter or Department of Offense

bigwig to bestow upon you the unique opportunity to undergo years of
true and committed service to your country.  Then again, I may be
right: that armchair is great for quarterbacking the Redskins or
generalling the armies or admiralling the navies.  The upteenth rerun

of Hanks' pretending to be a captain in a stylised war (replicating
the one that preceded his own lifetime) just gets the mood right.

As for France, it's an easy target of course.  Being the only
European nation that chose to declare its independence from the
continued perpetual occupation by American forces following the
Second Great War, there's a natural tendency to be brusque about its
past actions.  Yet, one cannot avoid the Truth of why the Americans
fought in both the First and Second Great Wars: to perserve France.
Even JP Buchanan recognises that Britland was probably in no danger
to falling to the Germans nor was Russia.

The key was, of course, to perserve the only other truly
revolutionary country in the world, our sibling in the struggle for

the sovereignty of human dignity, the land of true thought, culture,
and the originators of connaisseurs and connaissueses.  The only
danger to these principles has been the existence of Britland, the
most tried and failed of the imperialist colonial empires the world
has ever known.  If you recall American history, it was against this
nation that my forebears fought for their independence.  It was
against this nation that Jeanne d'Arc fought for her peoples'
independence.  The connexion between the far past, the American past
and the present is Britland has essentially the same form of waning,
wasting, and withering government, one that has bestowed upon the
world the blessings of Palestine, Kashmir, Northern Ireland, and
various other political nuts to crack.  This of course, does not
ignore its vast connexions to various groups of extreme vandals,
the sort that perpetrated the events of 9-11.

Again, France has resisted pollution of its heritage and it is in
support of this resistance that Americans have come to her aid!
