Re: When did Cage replace Garcia in NRPS?
My reply to this first e-mail on 07/26/03 seemed to miss getting onto the deadlists list for some reason. So here it is again: Stu wrote: Does anyone know when Buddy Cage replaced Garcia on pedal steel in the New Riders? I know Jerry occasionally sat in on banjo or guitar as late as '73 and I think Buddy Cage was in place by late '71 or early '72, so I'm asking when was Jerry's last performance as a full time member of NRPS? Thanks for any help with this question, Stu The last show that is around on tape with Jerry is from 10/30/71. Buddy's first show, as far as he can recall, would have been 11/07/71. The earliest tape we have with Buddy is from 11/11/71. NRPS dates in circulation are getting pretty well documented at http://db.etree.org/. Noah

RE: When did Cage replace Garcia in NRPS?
I could be mistaken but I think it was 11/20/71, in Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure that Buddy was onboard for the Felt Forum shows in December. Someone here should know for sure... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, July 26, 2003 12:28 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: When did Cage replace Garcia in NRPS? Re: When did Cage replace Garcia in NRPS?
Good Grief! I've been responding to the Buddy Cage/NRPS post for almost a week now, and I only now realized that since my e-mail changed to comcast, I was no longer subscribed to the list. Doh! I've had long talks with Buddy about this very subject. He is very clear that there is no way on earth that Jerry and he would ever have share the pedal steel seat together at a show. Jerry would have nothing of it. Realize that Garcia and Nelson wanted Buddy to hop on the Canadian Train with them in July 1970 and replace Jerry at that moment when they met. Buddy's contract with Ian Sylvia prevented that from happening. Garcia was suitably awed by Cage's ability (who wasn't?) and would never have dreamed of showing him the ropes on stage. Sharing the bill and sitting in together would never have happened. The last show that is around on tape with Jerry is from 10/30/71. Buddy's first show, as far as he can recall, would have been 11/07/71. The earliest tape we have with Buddy is from 11/11/71.
