Bug#538215: gnome-applets: mixer-applet eats my CPU

2009-07-24 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.24.3.1-2+b1
Severity: normal

Hi.

My CPU seems very busy and suddenly I notice, in top :
 4688 olivier   20   0 7 7948 6780 S 60.2  1.0   2659:25 mixer_applet2

mixer-applet is eating more than 50% of my CPU, which is really weird : no
sound playing... nothing really special happening ATM on the computer
otherwise...

Thanks in advance if you can help debug why.

In the meantime, I'm gonna kill it.

Best regards,

Bug#538216: ace-of-penguins: windows can't be moved

Package: ace-of-penguins

Severity: normal

For some reason, I often find that I am not allowed to move
ace-of-penguins windows out of the corner of the scren in which they
start. This happens often but not always, and I haven't been able to
discren any pattern. My window manager is metacity. Attached is a
screenshot showing the 'Move' option in the window menu disabled.

I'd blame this on the window manager, but I've never seen this problem
with any application other than the ace-of-penguins games, so maybe a
wrong hint is being set somewhere? I don't fully understand how these
things work.

If I can further assist in debugging, please let me know.

Bug#538217: wireless-tools: iwconfig can't set key but wpa_supplicant can

2009-07-24 Thread S Hwang
Package: wireless-tools
Version: 29-2
Severity: important

I'm setting up a new install on a Medion Akoya P6611. It uses Intel 5100 AGN
for the wireless networking. When trying to get the wireless network
configured, I have found that iwconfig is unable to set the encryption key and
thus fails to associate with the router. I issue the command:
iwconfig wlan0 key myhexkey
and the error message is:
Error for wireless request Set Encode (8B2A) :
Set failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
I get the same error if I use iwconfig wlan0 key s:mypassphrase. I can set
essid and mode without errors.

But, wpa_supplicant (with an appropriate configuration file that contains the
passphrase) can succesfully set the key and associate with the router. If I
then type iwconfig wlan0, it reports that the encryption key has been set. I
can then successfully ifup wlan0 (though it still complains about setting the
key).

I'm using the iwlagn module with the firmware downloaded by firmware-iwlwifi
(which the kernel complains is out of date - see bug 532207). I also tried the
newest firmware downloaded from the link provided in that bug report. This did
not help.

Perhaps this is a driver problem, and not specifically something with iwconfig,
but I don't know how to tell beyond what I've already tried.

Bug#538176: zope3 and python-zope.i18nmessageid: error when trying to install together

It looks like this will be an issue for upgrades.

I used to have a python-zope package at the bottom of the dependency
tree that conflicted against zope3 to kick it off the machine before
python-zope.* packages were installed.

So, I think we need to make a decision, do we:

* Make zope3 a depend on our python-zope.* packages.

or:

* Add Conflicts/Replaces: zope3 to the packages at the bottom of the
  python-zope.* dependency tree.

Because the versions are so different of the components inside the zope3
package as to what we have as python-zope.*, I see the first option as
unworkable.

The second option would require adding Conflicts/Replaces: zope3 to
these at least packages:

* zope.event
* zope.i18nmessageid
* zope.proxy
* zope.copy
* zope.browser
* zope.testing
* zope.hookable

I'll add that to the packaging in subversion if there are no objections?

Bug#538010: icewm: Icewm hangs when opening wicd version 1.6.1-3.

2009-07-24 Thread Eduard Bloch
clone 538010 -1
retitle -1 Broken icon data
thanks

Hello,

first, you are right. But: the problem comes from wicd itself in the
first place, therefore I open a second bug report.

AFAICS the WM icon data is crappy:

xprop | grep ICON | tr ',' '\n' | gview -
  62521   62529  406342

Sorry, what is that? Wasting 240 KiB of X server memory JUST FOR ICONS?
(Or maybe a half MiB on 64bit systems, not sure which data type it uses
for RGBA data).

I checked the contents, we have there:
32x32 version, 64x64, 96x96, 128x128, 36x36, 192x192 versions, in this
order, and the last image is not even complete but maybe because xprop
is running into its own buffer limits.

This all does not make sense. The order is unusual, the last icons are
huge for no reason, and 36px version is uncommon - who needs it?
Usualy applications use 48, 32, 16 versions, in descending order (by
size).

Regards,
Eduard.

Bug#538219: cpufrequtils: seems like nice did not use to step cpu

2009-07-24 Thread Mark Hedges
Package: cpufrequtils
Version: 005-1
Severity: normal

In lenny the boinc client did not step the CPU, so my 2.0 GHz laptop
ran at 800 MHz which was great because I don't want to burn it out.
(I mean it gets really hot and I want the chips to last.)

In squeeze, `top` reports the CPU usage is `nice`, but both cores
are running at 2.0 Ghz. So the fan is clocking and I could cook
an egg on the keyboard. The applet seems to show it oscillating
between 800MHz and 2.0Ghz, but the temp gets near boiling after
about 5 minutes. (Definitely not a gaming laptop: Thinkpad X61.)

are set right (CPU0 CPU1) and working because I

Hi,

the fix recently applied for this bug causes some more false positives,
probably by treating a trailing digit of the file name as a file
descriptor being redirected: now I get reports like

  Please upgrade haskell-zlib in Debian. The upcoming release of
  Darcs 2.3 requires haskell-zlib 0.5.1.0.

  Without it, Darcs will use its deprecated internal zlib bindings,
  which will reduce the amount of real-world testing that
  haskell-zlib gets from Debian users.

  now it starts: The platform specifies zlib-0.5.0.0... but using
  something deprecated should be avoided.

 I believe the reason Darcs' zlib dependency was bumped to 0.5.1 is
 because 0.5.0 has known problems with CRC (checksums) -- either
 generating bad ones, or failing to detect/repair bad ones.

 I can dig up the exact details if you want.

don’t worry, I believe that darcs’ dependency is there for a good
reason. I just wanted to bring up this issue of reasonable dependency
vs. haskell platform in general.

Does anyone know how other distros handle that?

Greetings,
Joachim

It would be nice if memlockd didn't need to be restarted after upgrades.

Hi Niels,

This works for me:

#!/usr/bin/bsh
String a = Hello;
System.out.println(a);

Maybe you were missing the semi colon after Hello. You need also to
make your hello.bsh file executable

My test script:

cat  hello.bsh EOF
#!/usr/bin/bsh
String a = Hello;
System.out.println(a);
EOF
chmod u+x hello.bsh
./hello.bsh

Can you give the exact version number for bsh on your system? Use
dpkg --status bsh

Ludovic

Better to use C locale when reporting bugs. Not everyone read Russain.
And looks like you mixed 2 problems in one bugreport, so it's not very
clear, what is your settings in which cases.
Lets check ldapscripts without \\PASSWORDGEN=ask\\ first.

First of all I need the following info:
Is it clean installation of ldapscripts 1.8, or you upgraded from an
old one?
Do you have libnss-ldap installed?
Are your LDAP settings right? Do LDAP work as needed?
What is your ldapscripts.conf? (Better attach file without comments,
but note quote it.)
What is your default shell (I meen /bin/sh)?

Feel free to connect me private in Russian in case of troubles.

And better to use reportbug package for bugreportnig, it generates nice
information which replies on most of my question above.

Bug#532565: Unable to revert

2009-07-24 Thread Neil Jamieson
I have attempted to revert without success, and cannot find any
documentation of the process. Synaptic initially presented the option
of choosing the old version, but doing so had no effect, and the option
no longer shows up (presumably because the old version has been pushed
out of the local apt cache).

Can someone please post directions as I currently have no way to backup
my Palm.

Thanks

Bug#538229: Utility scripts broken

2009-07-24 Thread Jiayong Ou
Package: solr-common

solr-common installs the solr utiliy scripts in /usr/share/solr/scripts.
But those scripts expects themselves to be in $SOLR_HOME/bin to
include a utility file, so I get:

./snapshooter: line 26: /usr/share/solr/bin/scripts-util: No such file or

Either the scripts should be installed in /usr/share/solr/bin or
a symlink from scripts to bin should be made.

Bug#538208: pkglab: depends on non-existing package libledit-ocaml

 what is going on here? The debian/control file of the ledit source
 package (2.01-4) contains no stanze to create the libledit-ocaml
 package. Has this been removed? If yes, why?

Nope, it contains libledit-ocaml-*dev* (development part of the lib),
as ledit is a pure OCaml library, there is no libledit-ocaml (runtime
part of the lib).

Cheers.

Bug#538233: gscan2pdf exports blank PDF files

2009-07-24 Thread Robert Kawecki
Package: gscan2pdf
Version: 0.9.29-1
Severity: grave

With current versions of libraries listed below, gscan2pdf (unstable Debian,
gscan2pdf/testing release) is unusable as it can not export correct PDF files.
Tested with a 2-page scanned document (Scan option), 2-page document imported
from JPEG files and 1 page from JPEG (File-Import in the user interface).
The saved PDF file contains blank pages only (page count stays as expected).

Moreover, while exporting any PDF file, there is a bug in rendering the
progress bar (possibly a different issue) - instead of the progress bar, I see
a float value like ,3 (which equals step 1/3 of export).

William Pitcock neno...@dereferenced.org napsal(a):

 Package: rpm
 Version: 4.7.0-9
 Severity: wishlist

 Starting with RPM 4.7, embedded Lua support has been added to RPMs. As a
 result,
 in order to build a Fedora 11 chroot, the Lua support needs to be enabled.

 Please enable this feature so we may be able to build a Fedora 11 chroot.

I'd like to add it, but some libraries required for this are missing in
Debian and I don't have time to learn lua to maintain them.

I just filed RFP bugs and I will block this bug by them.

 *** Please type your report below this line ***

 I am the upstream author of cyphesis-C++

 A number of releases ago changes were made to the filesystem layout of
 cyphesis after installation, and the package does not seem to have been
 updated to include files which have changed location or been added.

 Firstly a number of files with the suffix .xml are installed in
 /etc/cyphesis/mason.d/ and should be included in the package
 cyphesis-cpp-mason. Currently only basic.xml and mason.xml are included,
 meaning data which is vital for cyphesis to run usefully is missing.
 The contents of this directory are likely to grow, so the package should
 use a wildcard, not a fixed list of known files.

 Secondly a directory full of Python files is installed in
 /usr/share/cyphesis/scripts/cyphesis/ which are vital for the scripting
 interface of cyphesis, and these do not seem to be included in the
 package. Without a functional scripting interface, cyphesis is
 effectively useless.

 I can confirm this issue directly on 0.5.15, and am fairly sure the
 issue applies to 0.5.16 as public servers using this version on the
 internet display the same issue.

You are right. I currently prepare an update to 0.5.20 which needs to wait
for mercator go through NEW queue first. This release will address all above
issues.

Cheers,

Bug#516255: Bug #516255 ITA: azureus -- BitTorrent Client

2009-07-24 Thread Felix Zielcke
Hi,

There's any chance I can adopt azureus and vuze?

I suggest you ask Adnan (CC'ed) if he has still interest in it.
Maybe you can both adopt it and work on it.
If not then you can IMO go ahead and prepare a new package and upload it
to mentors.debian.net and find a sponsor.
Unfortunately I can't sponsor it, because I'm just a DM not a DD.

2009-07-24 Thread Andrea Veri
I confirm Moritz's report. I won't have time to maintain this package
plus it has some security issues and users seems to prefer not using an
already builded package but orig tarball itself. (building it by their own)

Thanks.

Bug#512111: iceweasel: Iceweasel disable Firefox upgrade checks

  Since Debian stable is a frozen distro, it's not uncommon to install
  the official Firefox binaries when the next version of Firefox is
  released, and isn't packaged in stable or backported yet. I've also
  also seen that useful to fix browser detection (hotmail) or support
  binary extensions (probably to avoid stdlibc++ 5/6 discrepancies).

  Anyway, when Iceweasel is started, it silently disables the security
  update checks in the configuration.
  about:config reports that 'app.update.enabled' is set to false. This
  is set on startup.

  This is a problem, because as I mentioned people may use, concurrently
  or later, an official version of Firefox. In this case, Firefox will
  disable security update checks as directed, and thus Firefox won't be
  upgraded when there's a security fix. People may work several months
  without being notified about a security hole in their Firefox.

  The fact Iceweasel disables upsteam security update checks is normal,
  because Debian (not upstream) provides those. However it's a mistake
  to disable that in the configuration, because this impacts other
  versions of Firefox that do use those checks.

  So please don't alter 'app.update.enabled' and other settings, and
  disable Iceweasel upstream security updates checks using another
  method (e.g. by not compiling the related code, or by not using
  ~/.mozilla/firefox to store the iceweasel configuration).

 Are you sure that when running firefox again, the config value doesn't
 go back to true ? Because these are global configurations that are not
 stored in user profile unless you modify them... So while running
 iceweasel would disable app.update.enabled, running firefox should
 re-enable it. Try resetting the config item (right-click - reset, iirc)
 and try switching between iceweasel and firefox.

Okay, it appears to be a feature of the locked preferences. With
verbatim upstream firefox, the same can happen when using locked prefs.

I'll dive into the pref code to understand what's going on.

Cheers,

Mike

 Description: A simple text-based CD player
  Workbone is a simple, curses-based CD player that is controlled by
  the num-lock keys. The cdtool package can be used to determine the
  contents of a CD before playing it.

 The package appears to be abandoned upstream and there is an RC bug (which
 I wasn't able to reproduce on my AMD64 system), and I don't use this any
 more.

 Furthermore, there seems to be a version of workbone inside the workman
 sources. Since workbone is originally a fork of (a part of) workman, it
 would in my opinion make sense to unify these packages: namely, drop the
 separate workbone source and generate a workbone binary package from the
 workman sources.

 However, I don't have the interest to push for these changes, so I am
 orphaning the package. I'm sending a copy of this message to the workman
 maintainer (and to the submitter of the only outstanding functionality-related
 bug report against workbone).

Bug#538241: simple-cdd can not build multiple media installers

2009-07-24 Thread L. Redrejo
Package: simple-cdd
Version: 0.3.11
Severity: wishlist

When trying to build a Debian installer that has to fit in a cd media,
simple-cdd is limited to use no more than 700 mb of packages, as it's
not able to build a multiple media installer.

It would be really useful to be able to build it (to make a base
installation + a cd with games o a cd with educative packages, etc.)

Debian installer can do it, so simple-cdd should be able to do it too ;)

*If* you report bugs on bpo versions (and with that you assume

It does *NOT* know the bpo versions, so the BTS gets confused.

Anyway:

 This error is reproducible. Just select Window/New Window and Try to
 insert a note in the 2nd window. The cursor goes to the first window.

 If the note is inserted in the first window it is discared

this is known upstream as issue 98686

be fixed in 3.2.0.

 Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on:

  called autoreconf, which is a pretty popular script in autoconf.

Ok, since you talk about the user, I'm going to think about two
types of users then:

a) The normal user (whatever it means).
b) The Debian developer.

For the benefit of a), normal users who have an apt tool which treats
recommends as depends, I'm willing to switch cvs from suggests to
recommends.

Debian developers, however, should try building packages in a chroot,
in which case they should really read README.Debian and be aware of
what it says.

The other solution would be to put autopoint in its own package, but
that's a solution that adds complexity without a gain that compensates
for the complexity, so I'll still try to avoid it.

Thanks.

It's from my previous experience from 2001 I guess; I know for sure
replacing r4k-ip22 with r5k-ip22 cured the problem previously, just

No, first I experienced the problem during a dist-upgrade w/

openssh-server being configured I rebooted to the current kernel,
sadly only with partial success:

  - no more kernel errors on screen

  - openssh-server still fails to configure (one of ssh-keygen's
friends segfaulting.)

I'm attaching the recording from 21 gdb ssh | tee gdb_ssh

You almost convinced me the problem is not kernel related and
searching the archives of debian mips yielded a message from
Martin Michlmayr t...@cyrius.com
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-mips/2008/03/msg00039.html
stating that r4k-ip22 are running on r5k-ip22 machines too.

You may close the bug for now, I'll investigate further and reopen and
reassign it: living w/o a working sshd on that machine isn't really an
option.

Thanks for caring

I initially planned to package this related to (and sponsored by) $WORK,
but that fell through and I'm not really knowledgeable enough about image
stuff to feel comfortable in continuing.

I've got some half-working packaging lying around and even some patches
I sent upstream but they haven't released them (and have gone silent in
general). Send me a direct mail if you want what I have.

Bug#538248: child processes inherit the listening sockets opened by xsm

2009-07-24 Thread Kalle Olavi Niemitalo
Package: libice6
Version: 2:1.0.5-1
Severity: normal

I'm using Debian sources but not Debian binaries.

When I run xsm (x11-session-utils 7.3+1) from ~/.xsession,
it creates several sockets and listens to them. The file
descriptors it opens for these sockets get pointlessly inherited
by child processes, causing warnings from LVM2 utilities.
xsm should make the file descriptors close on exec.

To create these sockets, xsm uses libICE, which in turn uses
source code from xtrans. In X11 Release 6 Public Patch #08
http://www.umich.edu/~archive/x11/r6-src/fixes/fix-08,
IceAcceptConnection() and IceOpenConnection() were changed to
call _IceTransSetOption (newconn, TRANS_CLOSEONEXEC, 1); but
IceListenForConnections() does no such thing. Because libICE
apparently expects callers to access the listening sockets only
via the opaque typedef struct _IceListenObj *IceListenObj, and
these structures do not survive the address-space change in exec,
I don't think it makes sense to keep the file descriptors open
across exec either.

libice (2:1.0.5-1.kon.1) local; urgency=low

  * Local version!
  * Make the sockets opened by IceListenForConnections close on exec.
This stops xsm from leaking the $SESSION_MANAGER sockets to all the
processes in the session.

Maybe the package maintainer can update the package from svn until we

 Hi Niels,

 This works for me:

 Maybe you were missing the semi colon after Hello. You need also to
 make your hello.bsh file executable

 My test script:

 cat  hello.bsh EOF
 #!/usr/bin/bsh
 String a = Hello;
 System.out.println(a);
 EOF
 chmod u+x hello.bsh
 ./hello.bsh

Hi,

I am afraid it is not the semi-colon - I may have forgotten it in my
original test, but my problem is that it is looking for a command called
String.

$ cat  hello.bsh EOF
 #!/usr/bin/bsh
 String a = Hello;
 System.out.println(a);
 EOF
$ chmod u+x hello.bsh
$ ./hello.bsh
./hello.bsh: line 2: String: command not found
./hello.bsh: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token `a'
./hello.bsh: line 3: `System.out.println(a);'

For the sake of it I also tried experimental - same result.

However the following works (only used bsh/testing for these):

$ bsh EOF
String a = Hello;
System.out.println(a);
EOF

(In terms of executing the code - The bsh prompt however makes it rather
useless for other intentions)

And calling bsh directly works as well:
$ bsh hello.bsh
Hello

 Can you give the exact version number for bsh on your system? Use
 dpkg --status bsh

Testing:

[...]
Version: 2.0b4-8
[...]

When I tried experimental:

[...]
Version: 2.0b4-9
[...]

My /usr/bin/java is the non-free sun6, though I doubt it is the cause of
the problem.

Bug#538058: libgtkhtml-editor0: Gtkhtml-editor and -commons package out of sync - crash

2009-07-24 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: libgtkhtml-editor0
Version: 3.27.4-1

Hi,
Both directions lead to a crash, updating the gtkhtml-editor-common package
without having the latest library and the other way round.
The dependencies to the -common package should probably be exact, or at least
not allow major version differences.

 All it does it assume ARM means you have a small device+screen and so the
 default window size is a little smaller. If it fails due to dash being
 used (perhaps not an unusual occurance on embedded ARM systems) it just
 falls back to the initial default window size of 640x480. Personally
 I'd be inclined to just leave it as-is.

It could be removed. Thinking that an arm is necessarily an handheld
or something like that is oversimplified.

Hi,

Seems liferea wraps words in two cases: Not just when it encounters a

Bug#538217: wireless-tools: iwconfig can't set key but wpa_supplicant can

 and thus fails to associate with the router. I issue the command:
 iwconfig wlan0 key myhexkey

 Error for wireless request Set Encode (8B2A) :
 Set failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
 I get the same error if I use iwconfig wlan0 key s:mypassphrase. I can set
 essid and mode without errors.

Can you try bringing the interface up first (ifconfig wlan0 up), and then
running the iwconfig command, and see if that works? If you already tried it
with the interface up, try it with the interface down before running the
command.

 Perhaps this is a driver problem, and not specifically something with
 iwconfig, but I don't know how to tell beyond what I've already tried.

I suspect it is a driver problem.

 There is no other solution. You need to be able to get/set EFI
 variables, and that's only possible when booted through EFI with an
 EFI-enabled kernel. (and the efivars module)

 Also efibootmgr doesn't handle all that's needed for OS X to be happy
 with the boot variables.

 JB.

Ok.
I added now a Suggests: efibootmgr but it would be good if grub-install
would support it.
Oh and in upstream there's a patch for a bless command for grub2, which
modifies the HFS+ somehow like bless --directory

Hey,

 I suggest you ask Adnan (CC'ed) if he has still interest in it.
 Maybe you can both adopt it and work on it.

Adrian, I thought this was adopted by the other guy who showed interest in
adopting azureus, and no interest with working together whatsoever, so
I thought it was closed deal and I kinda gave up on azureus,

I'm still interested! 100% interested, and I'd love to work on it
together with somebody else. Right now I'm somewhat busy (attending
debconf9 - volunteer) but I'd love to finally finish packaging azureus :)

Felix do let me know what's it gonna be since I'm in, let's do this.

 Unfortunately I can't sponsor it, because I'm just a DM not a DD.

Yes you're right. There is a compatibility issue here. But since both packages

I see two way to fix that issue:
 - a backport of the 1.02 server
 - a script to convert plain XML inventory to zlib compressed inventory in a
