Bug#789698: network: No longer creates user connections for unprivileged users
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.8.3-3 Severity: important In wheezy we added 11_network_user_connections.patch so unprivileged users could create new network connections without having to provide admin privileges. Bug#783986: ifupdown does ignore post-up lines for static ipv6
Am Samstag, 6. Juni 2015, 23:12:14 schrieb Guus Sliepen: The post-up lines are executed for static ipv6 interfaces, but not if something went wrong while configuring the interface. One issue is that ifupdown assumes the kernel is performing Duplicate Address Detection in a timely fashion, and only considers the interface properly up if the kernel completes DAD. It could be that at boot time this doesn't work. Try adding dad-attempts 0 to the iface eth0 stanza, and see if that makes a difference. Sorry about the late reply, I had been away on a trip abroad and did not have access to that machine. I've tried your hint setting dad-attempts 0 in /etc/network/interfaces. That did not change anything, however. One thing i forgot to add, though, is, that this machine has its disk encrypted with luks and I am using mandos-client to unlock the disks during early userspace (i.e. mandos-client is run from initrd). mandos-client brings up the network interface in question to receive the password for the luks volume. Having looked at the logs, it seems that the interface is not taken down before early userspace is finished. The system still manages to set up the static addresses right, but the additinal up stanza does not get executed. I've also tried the other way of configuring additional addresses as described in the debian wiki, by adding eth a third time, configuring the additional ULA address in the third interface config section. The result was the same, though, the additional address did not get set up at boot time. Regards, Dominik signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#789551: Backportable change
Please do the following to resolve this bug: * Work with your package's upstream to have the code support ‘lockfile’'s current API, if it doesn't already. Encourage them to release a new version with that support. * Upload a new release of this package with a versioned dependency on “python-lockfile (= 0.9)”. It is imperative that lava-coordinator does not simply migrate to the new API, it must support both as backports need to be supported both for Jessie and Trusty. The current change being considered is: https://review.linaro.org/#/c/6661/1/lava-coordinator,cm Please consider this in the other bug reports - there are options for supporting both versions and the new API is not appropriate for all packages to use as the sole version. There are more than two ways to fix the bugs reported for python-lockfile and there is no actual requirement to change the dependency or depend solely on the newer version. -- Neil Williams = http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpfrG3payBxF.pgp Description: OpenPGP digital signature

This patch was dropped when 3.8 was merged from experimental. We should restore this patch and forward port it to 3.16 and consider fixing this for jessie as well. Bug#789702: php5: SOAP when throwing exception server side causes Segmentation Fault
Package: libapache2-mod-php5 Version: 5.6.9+dfsg-0+deb8u1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? A client application connection to a SOAP server running this version of PHP on Debian Jessie was randomly getting the following error Error Fetching http headers. This caused major issues with our client application. After further investigation I looked at the apache error logs and saw the following error every time this happened.(a lot) [Tue Jun 23 08:28:57.841494 2015] [core:notice] [pid 4038] AH00052: child pid 4085 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I triangulated this issue to when the SOAP server side running this version of PHP throws an exception, that is causing this Segmentation fault to occur. I modified my SOAP server side script for now to no longer throw any exceptions to work around this. * What was the outcome of this action? I am no longer getting Segmentation Faults in the scenarios where I knew I was getting them for sure prior. * What outcome did you expect instead? I didn't expect PHP to Segmentation Fault when throwing and exception over SOAP. I tried getting a coredump of this, but wasn't able to succefully do that. I did have apache running with gdb, here is a copy/paste of what I saw in there when I triggered this Segfault. (gdb) run -X The program being debugged has been started already. Start it from the beginning? (y or n) n Program not restarted. (gdb) backtrace #0 0x73c9bd5f in instanceof_function_ex () from /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so #1 0x73b47597 in ?? But more annoyingly, restarting cron results in atop being killed! I don't see why it's necessary to couple the cleanup of old log files to the startup of the service. It would seem simpler to have two cron jobs; one job to restart the service (via the regular 'start' verb so that /lib/lsb/init-functions.d/40-systemd is able to do its job, hence fixing this bug) and the second job to delete the old log files. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (550, 'stable-updates'), (550, 'stable'), (520, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages atop depends on: ii libc62.19-18 ii libncurses5 5.9+20140913-1+b1 ii libtinfo55.9+20140913-1+b1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.8.dfsg-2+b1 Versions of packages atop recommends: ii cron 3.0pl1-127 atop suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. After some investigation, logging in from another computer and the magic gdm3 restart will bring the main screen back from the dead. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#789689: [PATCH]: Add a language selector to kdm
Package: kde-workspace Version: 4:4.11.13-2.1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hello! The attached patch adds a language selector to kdm which allows one to set the environment variables for language and localization at login time. This is implemented by adding an additional popup menu below the session selector in kdm which will provide a list of languages available for login. The choice made here will cause kdm to set the environment variable KDM_LANG to a valid locale like de_DE.utf-8 or fr_FR.utf-8, very similar to what gdm implemented before GNOME developers decided to rip that functionality out. gdm just set GDM_LANG instead of KDM_LANG. One then just needs to add a few lines to kdm's Xsession file located in /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession which then reads in the current value of KDM_LANG and uses it to set LANG, LANGUAGE and LC_ALL accordingly. Currently, we have added the following lines to our kdm Xsession file to achieve this: if [ -n $KDM_LANG ] ; then LANGUAGE=$KDM_LANG LANG=$KDM_LANG LC_ALL=$KDM_LANG export LANGUAGE export LANG export LC_ALL fi Please note that this patch has not been thoroughly tested to the extent that I would recommend applying it to the current kde-workspace source package in Debian or even upstream. However, since we have already deployed such a modified version of kdm on all our Jessie machines without any issues, this patch might still be helpful to anyone who is looking for a display manager with working selection menus for both session and language as well as the capability to store these values per user across the network. None of the other display managers available in Debian currently provides this functionality: gdm3 doesn't have a language selector anymore, lightdm has one but restoring the settings from accounts-service or .dmrc is completely broken in lightdm and sddm can only save these settings for one global user. Thus, I went ahead and just added a language selector to kdm myself, based on a old patch provided in KDE's bug tracker [1]. I used the patch, ported it to the new kdm codebase as well added the feature to save and restore the language chosen from kdm. Thus, part of the credit for this patch goes to the user dump in KDE's bug tracker. Oh, and currently the list of available languages is hard-coded into the source code in kdm/kfrontend/kgreeter.cpp. Thus, if anyone seriously considers committing this patch Debian's kde-workspace source package or upstream, they should improve the code afterwards to parse the list of available locales from the system. It turned out in ~root/.dbus/session-bus/ I had 2 files; one which was a few months old and one of which was created yesterday. Both had the same hex basename but the older ended -1 and the newer -0. I killed the dbus-launch --autolaunch=hexbase daemon running as root and cleaned out both those files and tried to launch the terminal from GNOME Shell again. That worked fine. Additionally quitting the terminal and trying again also worked fine. As a result I'm currently led to believe the issue was caused by crud lying around from an old root DBUS session. For some reason, display :0 is not available when the system is suspended. As noted earlier, this way of locking the screen was working before the upgrade. Thanks All others either FTBFS, or just use the default ruby (which should be fine), or don't use the supported versions reported by ruby-defaults/gem2deb. They will need to be looked at individually. I should be able to workaround a large part of the FTBFS by adding a dependency to gem2deb, and after that I will be able to file FTBFS bugs. Additionally, can you please adjust the ben file to remove false positives on arch:all packages? Affected: .architecture ~ /any/ .depends ~ /libruby/ Why? Aren't the arch:all ones something that should be dealt with as well? Not through binNMUs obviously, but the tracker lets you know when they have been fixed or how many stuff is still using other ruby versions. Actually from a closer look I see that those two depend on libruby, but not on libruby2.X. So they shouldn't be tracked because of that. I've fixed the is_affected regex to look for /libruby2/, which fixed that. Your solution is indeed better because it would catch any arch:all packages that depend on specific versions (but shouldn't). Thanks again. -- Antonio Terceiro terce...@debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#789704: gamin: Please convert the package to multiarch
Package: gamin Version: 0.1.10-4.1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, It would be nice if gamin was converted to multiarch. Maybe this should be coordinated with similar fam bug (#728951), I've posted debdiff there too. Experimental debdiff[*] attached, seems works for me (libgamin{0,-dev}:{i386,amd64} and gamin:i386 successfully co-installed, lighttpd successfully re-built against patched libgamin-dev), please review carefully. [*] Note: I've omitted ~2MB debian/patches/90_autoreconf.patch removal from the debdiff for clarity. TBC: are *.la files needed? Potential problem: gamin apparently uses binary protocol (see GAMPacket in libgamin/gam_protocol.h, libgamin/gam_data.c, server/gam_connection.c); there should be no problem with e.g. i386 vs amd64 libraries sharing same i386 (or amd64) daemon (structure layout and endian-ness are same), however there can be problem with different-endian architectures (e.g. libgamin0:powerpc vs. gamin:i386, or libgamin0:mips vs gamin:mipsel) or varying structure layout due to platform ABI. Potential solutions: a) (upstream) manually pack-unpack structures in platform/endian-neutral way (IMO, the proper way; it should not be very complex); b) (debian packaging) add all different-endian/ABI gamin:${ARCH} to libgamin0:Conflicts, e.g. Conflicts: gamin:i386 [powerpc], gamin:mips [mipsel, i386, amd64], etc; c) separate daemon instance [and socket path] for each architecture and set gamin:Multi-arch: same; -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: amd64 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R (charmap=KOI8-R) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gamin depends on: ii libc6 2.19-18 ii libgamin0 0.1.10-4.1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.1-1 gamin recommends no packages. gamin suggests no packages. -- no debconf information diff -Nru gamin-0.1.10/debian/patches/90_autoreconf.patch gamin-0.1.10/debian/patches/90_autoreconf.patch deleted file mode 0644 [~2MB diff omitted] diff -Nru gamin-0.1.10/debian/changelog gamin-0.1.10/debian/changelog --- gamin-0.1.10/debian/changelog 2012-07-20 06:08:26.0 +0400 +++ gamin-0.1.10/debian/changelog 2015-06-22 02:50:32.0 +0300 @@ -1,3 +1,12 @@ +gamin (0.1.10-4.2~local2) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium + + * Non-maintainer upload. + * Convert to multi-arch. + * Convert to dh-autoreconf. + * Transition to dh-python2 + + -- Yuriy M. Bug#789077: binNMUs for ruby2.2 transition, round 1

Thanks Looks like a few of these were also done in round 1. Please be careful there so we don't waste buildd time. Anyway, those are mostly done. All others either FTBFS, or just use the default ruby (which should be fine), or don't use the supported versions reported by ruby-defaults/gem2deb. I added another tweak to is_bad as it was reporting packages that had Depends: [...], libruby2.1 (= 2.1.0), libruby2.2 (= 2.2.0~1), [...] as bad. Those are now marked as good. Bug#789707: ITP: sickle -- windowed adaptive trimming tool for FASTQ files using quality
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Andreas Tille ti...@debian.org * Package name: sickle Version : 1.33 Upstream Author : Vince Buffalo * URL : https://github.com/vsbuffalo/sickle * License : MIT Programming Lang: C Description : windowed adaptive trimming tool for FASTQ files using quality Most modern sequencing technologies produce reads that have deteriorating quality towards the 3'-end. Incorrectly called bases here negatively impact assembles, mapping, and downstream bioinformatics analyses. . Sickle is a tool that uses sliding windows along with quality and length thresholds to determine when quality is sufficiently low to trim the 3'-end of reads. It will also discard reads based upon the length threshold. It takes the quality values and slides a window across them whose length is 0.1 times the length of the read. If this length is less than 1, then the window is set to be equal to the length of the read. Otherwise, the window slides along the quality values until the average quality in the window drops below the threshold. At that point the algorithm determines where in the window the drop occurs and cuts both the read and quality strings there. However, if the cut point is less than the minimum length threshold, then the read is discarded entirely. . Sickle supports four types of quality values: Illumina, Solexa, Phred, and Sanger. Note that the Solexa quality setting is an approximation (the actual conversion is a non-linear transformation). The end approximation is close. . Sickle also supports gzipped file inputs. Remark: This package was prepared by Tim Booth from BioLinux and taken over into Debian Med team maintenance by Andreas Tille. The packaging code is available at svn://anonscm.debian.org/debian-med/trunk/packages/sickle/trunk/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. By now, I think ssh tests available in upstream release will be in their location. I'll add the rest of your test to plugin_debian_phase1. This way I avoid to have to patch original tests file. Moreover, in this case, I have to register in their own bug tracking system for that. I would assume that at least one person in the Debian Printing Team is already registered to avoid this hassle to submitters. I do certainly agree it's a pain inflicted on Debian bug submitters, and I've just reported it upstream for you on this ground. Brian: would you be open to get yourself an account there? Well, it would be the natural way to perform SG_IO with a USB device. Burn programs issue SCSI commands and UAS is designed for transporting them. Wikipedia has: Version 3.18-rc4 of the Linux kernel disables buggy UAS implementation in xHCI host controllers Etron EJ168, ASMedia ASM1042,[19] and VIA VL80x.[20] But i understand that UAS is quite a new protocol. Is your drive's USB controller young enough ? (Actually i assume the drive is SATA or IDE and the box has a USB-SATA or USB-IDE bridge bridge.) An here comes the output from my kern.log: Jun 22 15:12:02 D-NESTERKIN kernel: [1.508233] usb 3-2: Product: PLEXTOR USB Storage Adapter They really give few clue about age and version of the drive-side USB controller. I googled for PLEXTOR USB Storage Adapter UAS and found nearly nothing. Descriptions of UAS refer to hard disks and SSDs, rather than optical drives. But - as stated - i expect it to depend on the USB-SATA or USB-IDE controller of the drive box. In any case, recent changes in USB are obvious suspects. Now i'm curious whether the working and non-working Linuxes show a pattern with kernel revisions. Bug#789715: simgrid: please make the build reproducible
Source: simgrid Version: 3.11.1-9 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: timestamps Hi, While working on the “reproducible builds” effort [1], we have noticed that simgrid could not be built reproducibly. The attached patch changes the value of HTML_TIMESTAMP in upstream's doxyfile from YES to NO and it also removes the timestamp from the gzip header of the tarball by setting the environment variable gzip=-9n. Once applied simgrid can be built reproducibly in our current experimental framework. Patching upstream doxyfile is necessary in this case because of the following reasons: 1. Even though the doxygen upstream changed the default value of HTML_TIMESTAMP from YES to NO this does not affect this package because the value of HTML_TIMESTAMP is explicitly set to YES. 2. Upstream's doxyfiles cannot reliably be modified to change the value of HTML_TIMESTAMP during the build process because dh_doxygen is only run after the build already completed and even adding a new dh command cannot solve the problem because there exists no sane and reliable solution to detect the file which will be used as the configuration file for doxygen (it is not always called doxyfile). 3. In case of this source package a patch against upstream is necessary in contrast to a patch against Debian rules because this source package does not call doxygen in debian/rules. Please also consider forwarding this patch upstream. I'm on an old Acer laptop, and before the upgrade the backlight controls worked fine passing acpi_backlight=vendor and acpi_osi=Linux on the kernel command line. Now it doesn't work anymore, I can adjust backlight echoing a value in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/backlight but nor hotkeys neither applets can adjust it. After some googling I tried creating a configuration file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, to tell it to use intel_backlight instead of acer-wmi, but it still doesn't work. I saw that in /usr/X11/xorg.conf.d there is a file to tell the driver to use UXA acceleration, but reading Xorg.log looks like SNA is used instead. Also in Xorg.log it tells it's loading the platform driver, which has never worked AFAIK, so I guess the problem is just that every option passed to the driver is simply ignored. Tried even adding video.use_native_backlight=1 on kernel command line with no luck. Please report kernel issues against the kernel. Bug#789718: Copy-paste from/to bulleted list in plain-text mode deletes rest of item
Package: evolution Version: 3.16.3-1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Steps to reproduce: Start composing a new mail. Make sure you're in Plain Text mode. Start a bulleted list. Type several words (for instance, some text more text even more text). Cut or copy some of those words (for instance, more text). Paste that text into the bulleted list. Notice that the rest of the text in that list item disappears. The expected behavior is to insert the text at the cursor, not to replace the entire contents of the surrounding list item. Also, after doing this, I observed some oddities trying to use undo, backspace, and similar editing on the resulting item. I'm running the Debian package of evolution 3.16.3; this didn't occur with evolution 3.12.11. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.0.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages evolution depends on: ii dbus 1.8.18-1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.56 ii evolution-common 3.16.3-1 ii evolution-data-server 3.16.3-1 ii libatk1.0-02.16.0-2 ii libc6 2.19-18 ii libcamel-1.2-523.16.3-1 ii libclutter-gtk-1.0-0 1.6.0-1 ii libecal-1.2-18 3.16.3-1 ii libedataserver-1.2-20 3.16.3-1 ii libevolution 3.16.3-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.44.1-1.1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.16.4-2 ii libical1a 1.0-1.3 ii libnotify4 0.7.6-2 ii libsoup2.4-1 2.50.0-2 ii libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 2.4.9-1 ii libxml22.9.2+dfsg1-3 ii psmisc 22.21-2 Versions of packages evolution recommends: pn bogofilter | spamassassin none ii evolution-plugins 3.16.3-1 ii yelp 3.16.1-1 Versions of packages evolution suggests: ii evolution-ews 3.16.3-1 pn evolution-plugins-experimental none ii gnupg 1.4.19-3 ii network-manager 1.0.2-2 -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#789689: [PATCH]: Add a language selector to kdm
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi Lisandro! On 06/23/2015 08:08 PM, Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote: Sadly KDM is, TTBOMK, going away in Stretch. I don't know the details, maybe Maxy or Sune does. So I don't think the patch will get picked :-/ I know and I am not really sad about that. The KDE developers have deprecated kdm as they are preferring sddm for KDE Plasma 5 now. My intention wasn't really to get this merged into either the Debian package or upstream but rather to have this patch visible in the Debian bug tracker so that everyone who is looking to add this functionality to kdm can add it themselves. And I only came up with this patch as currently there isn't really any other display manager that allows to choose both session and language at login time as well as have these settings preserved per user, independent of the machine in use. The deprecation of the .dmrc file in favor of the AccountsService daemon turned out to be really impractical for our use case, a large physics department at a university where students are hopping from one machine to another. And since AccountService stores the last session settings locally under /var, our users would always have to re-select their preferred session during login (and gdm3 doesn't even allow to set the language). Anyway, sddm is set to change this as it allows to set both session and language during login. Unfortunately, sddm is still in very early development and while it can actually save both session and language, it does not save these settings per user, but just remembers these settings in a single text file globally which is the very same file for every user on the system. Thus, if user A sets their session and language it will get overridden by user B. Additionally, sddm also stores these settings locally (as opposed to kdm which uses ${HOME}/.dmrc and therefore per user) and therefore isn't really fit for our usecase (yet). So, I'd be happy if you could just let this bug report open such that everyone who is searching for this issue can find it and possibly rebuild their kde-workspace package locally with the patch applied. Control: severity -1 serious thanks I'm setting this to serious, not because I feel this bug deserves such severity, but just because I would like to see 1.8.2 in testing, not 1.8.1 (wich needs some more time). Opening a new bug just to prevent migration seems an overkill :) (and I was bitten by this bug, and it has been so annoying, forcing me to save with a different filename to avoid loose of unsaved data) This will prevent migration until 1.8.2 is released.
