This will immediately make all reverse dependencies uninstallable, but
this is desirable. Those who can???t be updated will need to be removed as
well. They have had plenty of time to switch to GTK+ 2.X now. We
shouldn???t be struggling with GTK+ 1.2 while already planning the
introduction of GTK+ 3.

Since AFAICT all of those packages already have RC bugs open against them,
I would be open for the idea. But it might be preferable to remove the
reverse-dependencies that are obsolete libraries themself earlier or
at the same time, e.g. gnome-libs, wxwindows2.4, libgtkmm.

We can remove the following right-away:
- gnome-libs
- wxwindows2.4
- gtkglarea
- gtkmm

imlib and gtk1.2 should be given some more time, they're much more smoothly
to remove once KDE 4 is uploaded to unstable.

Hm. Ah, I was reading your diff backwards. Normally - is for the
old/previous version, and + for the new stuff. ;-)

I'd say, then, that a SONAME bump is not warranted. But it would be very
useful if, given the small number of reverse dependencies, you would
unpack all their .debs for amd64 or i386, and check with /usr/bin/nm
that none of the __PHYSFS_* symbols are referenced. Stefan, Barry, could
either of you check that?

OTOH, this will mean diverting from upstream, so you may want to contact
them and see what they think. If cross-distro compatibility is a concern,
you could ship a libphysfs-1.1-0 - libphysfs-1.0-0 symlinks, dunno.

So, actions: the nm check, and contacting upstream to see if they have
something to say as to why the SONAME bump is needed (changed strutcs,

I don't think there is. What I think actually happened was that the

Well it appears that I was wrong about part of it. 1.0.0 isn't

It appears that all of the packages are fine with libphysfs-1.0.1 so I
have uploaded it to unstable. I will shortly be uploading 1.1.1 to
Experimental as well since it seems that the issue with Warzone2100 may
have been alleviated. So if you want to hold out for 1.1.1, that might
be wise provided everything works OK.

As as side note, I will probably be requesting removal of moagg* from
the archive, and then libparagui1.0. Right now only moagg and ASC are
r(b)depends on it and ASC is fine with 1.1.

Thanks!

Hello, Barry!

Two comments. First, I'm not sure if you're aware that waiting for an
ACK from the release team before uploading soname bumping packages is
preferred. If you're aware and you thought it was okay, well, okay. ;-)

No, I wasn't when we are just after a release so my apologies there.

Second, and more importantly, I actually see no reason for the SONAME
bump! Meaning, that as far as I can see, the list of symbols between
libphysfs-1.0.so.1 and libphysfs-1.0.so.0 is identical. Do you know if
there has been some other ABI change that does not entail symbols, and
which would make the bump needed? If not, we'll need to talk about
reverting it. It'd be great if you could check.

I don't think there is. What I think actually happened was that the
previous version actually had the wrong package name. Does it really
require a reversion? 1.1.1 may suffer from the same issues. (Meaning it
has another soname change upstream but I think the symbols are
identical, but I need to verify that.).

Cheers,

Thanks,

libphysfs 1.0.1

2009-02-27 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi folks,

I would like to upload libphysfs 1.0.1 to unstable. It is a soname
change. You are all CC'd because you have a package that build-depends
on it.

I will attempt to test build all of the packages but if any of you know
or could build your own for me it would be greatly appreciated. It is
already in experimental.

Upstream does have a 1.1.1 version but apparently it has some issues,
unless any of you know otherwise.

I hope to get it uploaded by the end of March. Here are the packages
that are affected:

asc, balder2d, libparagui1.0, libparagui1.1, lincity-ng, love,
netpanzer, pingus,

taoframework, tmw, trigger, warzone2100

I'm struggling a little with this. Obviously I'm the first person to
want to see cruft removed and I realize we are just talking about
testing but I'm thinking about something like Gtk1.2 which is currently
orphaned with 60+ r(b)depends. Do we really want to those have issues
too before we have a plan to do anything about them?

Cripes I have been fighting for months for gnome-libs and imlib which
have a handful of r(b)depends between the two. Or libnet0 which has 3.

Testing removals and freeze requests:

2009-02-16 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

Please remove AND freeze the following source packages from testing:

gnome-libs 1.4.2-37
libnet0 1.0.2a-7
imlib 1.9.15-7

Please also remove the following r(b)depends from testing:

gnome-libs:
 powershell 0.9-8
 soundtracker 0.6.8-2

libnet0:
 nemesis 1:1.4-1
 paketto 1.10-7
 sing 1.1-17

imlib:
 libgtkimreg 0.1.3.1-1
 paul 0.1.1.1-1
 pixelize 0.9.2-4
 qiv 2.1~pre12-5
 xteddy 2.1-3
 ygraph 0.15-3.1
 kdegraphics 4:3.5.9-3
 icewm 1.2.37-1

I hope the rational for this is obvious but if you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to contact me. I'll hopefully be sending
along a Gtk1.2 request soon.

BTW, good job to everyone for the Lenny release and thanks for all of

Unblock request mpg321 0.2.10.5 ?

2008-11-13 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

I have just done some pretty significant changes to mpg321 with a QA
upload. Ideally it should probably get in to Lenny but I did bump the
compat level to 5 as it was set at 2. It fixes several bugs in the
package but I realize that is a no-no for release so if you don't want
to unblock it I understand but the package has been severely
unmaintained. It really probably should be removed but has fairly high
popcon stats. Here is the changelog of the changes I made:

mpg321 (0.2.10.5) unstable; urgency=low

 * QA upload.
+ Set maintainer to Debian QA Group [EMAIL PROTECTED].
 * Add large file support. (Closes: #152392).
+ Thanks to Clint Adams for the patch.
 * Avoid crashing on non mp3 files. (Closes: #458035).
+ Thanks to Justin Pryzby for the patch.
 * Don't scan file before playback. (Closes: #500102).
+ Thanks to Mikko Rapeli for the patch.
 * Don't leave dangling symlink. (Closes: #227713).
+ Thanks to Donggyoo Lee for the patch.
 * README.remote should use @P not @S. (Closes: #153596).
   + Add STOP comments.
 * Make AM_PATH_AO XIPH_PATH_AO in configure.ac.
 * Escape hyphens in manpage.
 * Bump debhelper build-dep to 5.
 * Move DH_COMPAT to debian/compat and set to 5.
 * Make distclean not ignore errors.
 * Bump Standards Version to 3.8.0.

Oh, sure. However, should the workaround be removed, then?:

Adeodato,

I don't think so personally, that is still a valid check as anything

Hi,

My apologies, you can ignore this message. Someone pointed out to me
that the offending code is actually dual-licensed and can be released
