A ver, vamos a especificar. To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-spanish-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
OK. Voy a llamarles index1.html e index2.html respectivamente. (...) Pufff. Sinceramente no sé qué decirte, no he tocado nada. Veamos qué hace Google Chrome (voy a instalarlo) ...
If I can replace kmail, I can drop KDE completely (even though I might miss kmahjonng and kpatience, a tleast for a while). I'm looking for a good GUI MUA that allow me to use one source for the mails from different Linux installs on a Linux multi-boot machine. I had good luck using different versions of Evolution sharing one maildir, but one install ships with Evolution 3.6 and this version completely doesn't work on my machine. When I try to use Evolutions maildir with Claws or Kmail it doesn't work. I'm willing to abandon this maildir and to start a new source directory to share mails. Evolution already replaced Mozillas (Thunderbird, Iceweasel, Seamonkey etc.), since sharing mails is much easier to set up, when using Evolution, at least it was easier, I don't know if it's possible today to share emails very easy using Mozillas. One solution (which I use) is to run an imap server off your maildir, then access the mail using any IMAP-capable MUA. That should solve your incompatible-storage-format problem. I use dovecot as my imap server, and access it using gnus. There are several howtos on setting up dovecot. I also use notmuch to index the maildir, and I'm considering just switching to the notmuch emacs mode for reading email. I have been quite satisfied with Gnome 2 in Squeeze, but as a testing user i tried the new shiny GNOME 3 for a month when it came out in unstable/experimental and was quite shocked of the non-usability, besides the fact i needed proprietary drivers to run it. Then i switched to XFCE 4.8 and got my usability back. Things worked like they used to, but i missed the good old Gnome 2 feeling. For me it was a more complete Desktop. Several months ago i gave MATE a chance and so far i like it more, although it's not in the official repos yet(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=658783). Doing apt-get install gdm3 and apt-get install gedit gparted both proceeded to apparently normal finish. Typing exit returned me to the user prompt. I then rebooted using CNTRL-ALT-DEL. Attempting to run Root Terminal proceeded normally thru prompting and apparently accepting the root password. The terminal did not appear - I've had that happen before, apparently although the icon for Root Terminal appears in the Applications sub-menu, the underlying program is not installed. Gparted started without asking for a password while displaying the screen titled Granted permissions without asking for password. Confirmed my suspicion by powering down and rebooting. This time I started Gparted first [it did ask for root password] and then attempting to star Root Terminal. I received the screen titled Granted permissions without asking for password. The Root Terminal again DID NOT appear. Installing gnome-terminal with Synaptic caused Terminal to appear in Applications menu. Now both Root Terminal and Terminal are functional. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Geary and Vala on Squeeze
Hey, everyone, just a quick question someone might be able to help me out with. I've been interested in trying out Geary from Yorba (http://yorba.org/geary/) on my Debian Squeeze box. I've checked out the build instructions and it requires Vala 0.17.4. I've checked the Debian package list for Squeeze and backports, and this version is nowhere to be found. I'm assuming I would also have to build the latest version of Vala, but am wondering if I'm going to find myself fighting an up-hill battle. Has anyone themselves used Geary on Squeeze? If so, can you give a little advice to building it. (Also, I checked the Wheezy packages and it looks like there isn't a version this new either.) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Locate-like tool but which indexes files metadata as well (and allows you to search)
Hi. I'm dealing with millions and millions of small files in a directory structure and finding something with 'find' takes ages. So I was wandering if there is a locate-like tool which periodically indexes the files, but instead of storing only the path names, it also stores the files' metadata (like permissions, ownership, modified time, size, etc.; basically everything that 'stat' reports). The tool would then allow me to search much in the same way as 'find' does, allowing for complex queries. I'm not interested in desktop-search tools (like tracker, Recoll, Beagle and friends) that index the contents of the files, I'm interested only and only in the files' path and metadata. After I have identified the files from metadata searches, I can then perform content searches using some other grep-like tools. I don't care that the indexing can take days, the files don't change very often and I can let the indexer run in the background with some lower ionice priority to not disturb the machine's disk IO subsistem too much. So, is there such a beast anywhere? I have searched high and low on the Internets but I haven't had any luck so far. Maybe somebody here knows something that I missed... Or maybe I have a wrong approach, don't know (I know that I can restrict find's maxdepth and I can tell it to start searching from a deeper path in the directory structure, but it's a hassle to find how deep I should go). BTW: why doesn't locate store files' metadata? I mean, it already passes through all the files, why does it store only the files' paths and names in the index?
