gnome apps can't print, everything else can
Hello! I have developed a problem with my gnome printing system. I am using cups with a samsung ml1520 + unstable amd64. The problem is that gnome apps can no longer print for some reason. They generate a job on the printer (according to cups) but this job is dispatched instantly without being actually printed. firefox, openoffice and kpdf can print. Evince cannot print and the gnome print centre cannot print a test page, even though it sees the printer. Apps that use lpr seem to fail too, e.g. gv. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lpr lpr: Error - no default destination available. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/printcap # This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8) from the # /etc/cups/printers.conf file. All changes to this file # will be lost. lp|Samsung ML-1520 Series (SPL II):rm=hyde:rp=lp: Could this be related to my gnome printing problem? Seems not since these lpr apps do not generate a print job in the log, unlike the gnome apps. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong? cheers matthew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main mplayer seems to play the most different formats, esp when you have the w32codecs package installed. It's also very efficient. It can't fast forward some avi files when you don't have the whole file though, unlike totem-xine. The mplayer plugin seems to work for realplayer content e.g. bbc as well. mplayer also supports streaming over rtsp. cheers - matthew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: how to convert DVD to something uploadable to youtube?
Erik Steffl wrote: I have a DVD (PAL system, not sure if it matters, no copy protection) and I'd like to convert it to something that I can upload to youtube (or just send to friends). I am using debian linux system (unstable). Hello Try acidrip - It's a graphical front end on the excellent mencoder encoder. That'll get you a decent quality, small file from your DVD. Not sure what formats youtube accepts. You'll need the debian multimedia repositories being discussed in a thread not very far from this one on thie very list. cheers matthew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: upgrading trashed my font display
Adam Hardy wrote: I upgraded a whole set of packages in etch using synaptic. I answered several of the questions posed by the installation processses of some of the packages but I must have answered one of them very wrongly. Now my system-, firefox- and thunderbird text refuses to appear until I drag the mouse across it. I am not sure how I managed to trash the system and I don't see anything immediate to restore it. This is the same in KDE, Gnome and Enlightenment. Can someone tell me where to start? Are you using the nvidia binary drivers? If so, I had this problem recently I think. fonts not working in firefox/ icedove
Hello! I recently did an apt-get upgrade on my i386 etch system and now the font rendering in icedove and firefox seems to be broken. For example, in my list of emails I onlt see the subject and other text information about the email when i click on the email. In firefox, I have to drag the window off the screen the back on again to be able to see the web page. Openofice seems to work fine. The gnome console also has problems. Xterm is fine. Can anyone suggest how I can get this foxed? I tried creating a new user and testing with a fresh gnome config but that did not work - the fonts behaved the same. I tried an upgrade to unstable and a reboot to refresh all the cached libraries etc (slightly superstitious), that didn't fix it either. cheers matthew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I have switched to nv and now the fonts are fine. Must be some mismatch between the libs i compiled against when I installed the nvidia driver and the libs that got installed when i did the upgrade. So I should probably install the nvidia drivers 'the debian way' to avoid this kind of problem. cheers - matthew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
