2009-08-11 Thread William Stillwell
You didn't understand my sarcasm did you?

I gave up w/Imail on fixing my imail webmail issues, on my servers, if there
is more than 1000 messages in a mail box, users get Access Denied when
going to different pages in there preview window.

If they have less then 500 messages it works fine for them..

It's by no means OWA .

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Blacklist Based on TO Address?

2008-10-30 Thread William Stillwell
I don't see where you can do [TO] in the filters.. I will probably just
filter by this header: X-Originating-IP: [98.130.1.155] , and add negative
weight., I also have to remove whitelist from my gateway mail scanner, and
create a rule, as IPBYPASS doesn't support Subnets.

I must of forgot something, because I can't seem to understand any of the
doc's on decludes website.

Ie, In global.cfg:

FILTER-MYFILTER filter d:\imail\declude\filters\myfilter.txt x y
z

What does column x, y, and z signify?

and I assume in myfilter.txt

Column #1 is Test Type? Where is a list of available Tests?
Column #2 is Wieght to add / delete? So, END = Cancel Test?
Column #3/4 is obvouse..

Instead of blacklisting, why not just create a TO/SUBJECT filter that adds a

large weight. That would serve the same purpose as blacklisting.

No there is not. If you want to blacklist I would suggest using your mail
server functionality to do this as the earlier you can stop a message the
better. Secondly if you really want Declude to do this you can see the
section Your own sender blacklists in the online manual

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] SORBS

2008-03-27 Thread William Stillwell
Orbs was shutdown, and as of today, they are returning false positives on
everything.

At noon today (Eastern Standard Time), the long dead ORDB spam
identification system began returning false positives as a way to get
sleeping users to remove the ORDB query from their spam filters. The net
effect: all mail is blocked on servers still configured to use the ORDB
service, which was taken out of commission in December of 2006. So if you're
not getting any mail, check your spam filter configuration!

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] OT: Software for copying files with permissions

2007-06-26 Thread William Stillwell

Reasons I love vmware esx :-)

Out of disk space? No problem, just make It bigger.
Out of Memory? Just add more...
Can't find the memory? Just move the virtual server to a newer box.
Cpu speed slow? Just build a new better faster esx server, (which takes
litterly 30mins to install) and move the virtaul machine (without shutting
it down).

Hi,

If this is part of a Domain, you should be able to use XCOPY or ROBOCOPY
(depending on the Windows Server version you have), with the appropriate
command line switches and copy the various folders and their content
INCLUDING permissions, owners, system/hidden flags etc.

After the files are copied, re-establish matching shares on the new server
(chances are, your shares may not have additional permissions and you are
controlling access strictly through NTFS - but you should check your current
shares, just to be sure).

Done this a several times over the years and it's relatively painless.

Best Regards,
Andy

I will keep ya posted, We are looking into some third party products and
other solutions. Your solution would work, however, But when given a request
to have all of the email of a certain person for x months is not easy to do
when you have to sift thru gigs of email.

I know you said that catch all does not work but something I do for certain
clients is make two email accounts.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Then I make a rule in Imail that sends a copy of all incoming to the
incoming address and then a copy of the outgoing mail to the outgoing email
address.

The file sizes can get huge if it's a busy domain but I also run a vbscript
every couple of days that moves the main.mbx to our backup server and
renames the file 12142006main.mbx.

Its not the most elegant solution but its free.

I would be interested in a paid solution though if there is one out there.

I didn't know if it meant they are blocking our IP or if Yahoo was having

I could not find anything on Yahoo's site about who to contact, what the

Can someone shed some light on what may be going on?

[Declude.JunkMail] Declude HiJack Blocking iMail MailAll.

2006-10-05 Thread William Stillwell

I resently upgraded our servers to the new version of Declude, and also
added the Hijack Product, and noticed it was blocking the mailall
application program on some alias we have setup. Then, I noticed it had
permantly blocked me.

I have added my IP to the hijack.cfg file, but can I put a subnet in there ?
And how to fix the mailall problem? The hi.log shows reports that the
users are not local ??

Ie, mailfile.smd some.user not local
Ie, mailfile.smd some.user not local
Ie, mailfile.smd some.user not local
Ie, mailfile.smd some.user not local
Ie, mailfile.smd some.user not local then a reached threshold and hold
permantaly flag.

Has anybody come across this problem?

We have the customer (holisticmoms.org) set-up as a Virtual Domain
under IMail. The DNS for their MX record we have set-up pointing to
our e-mail server IP number which is 65.57.241.194 (our mail server
name = sneezy.xerocom.net, however our router at the data center
replies vacant.compbiz.net. According to DNSReport.com, the reverse
 DNS passes.

DNS Report can't know if there's a conflict between the source IP
address presented, the PTR for that IP, the A for that PTR, and the HELO
presented. All four of those elements must exist in holistic harmony to
empower your messages toward successful delivery.

A common issue with virtual hosting environments is that different HELO
hostnames are presented for the same source IP. By definition, only one
of those hostnames can pass the round-trip test described above. I am
not aware of ways to fix this problem within the current version  of IMail;
I know it can't be fixed within older versions. The solution, cumbersome
though it may be, is to gateway your mail through another MTA that presents
a single HELO/IP/PTR/A set to the outside.

Have you setup Reverse DNS on your DNS Servers?

If so, Have them Delegate your subnet to your DNS Servers, this way
You control the Reverse DNS for your IP Subnet.

If not, Setup your Reverse DNS on your server, and have them Delegate the
subnet.

IF they will not delegate your subnet, then have them change the reverse DNS
entries
On there server, they will know what you want. If they don't, find a new
Server Provider.

90% of the time ISP/Server Providers don't delegate Reverse DNS Records. And
you normally
Have to ask them to.

So far, I am doing pretty good. All messages in the error directory are
SPAM, and SPAM that would have dropped through. So, good news there !

I will probably script something that will rename the files to something
with the senders name-domain to aid in sorting out garbage.

Also, after all the beating Declude has taken over the past two months, a
well deserved 'Hell Yeah!' . We all would have liked it sooner, but I'll
take later.

It took a while, but it looks like we're all back on track. I'll know for

Becuase, I have to RD into the box, and manage 50 domains by editing the
text files becuase ms dns doesn't allow wildcards., and if i need to edit an
ip for all the domains, i have to stop the server, edit the zone files, the
start the service.

ms dns works fine if you have no issues editing the zone files one by one
while your service is offline.

Can you clarify why you think MS DNS sucks? We've used it for years and
it

has worked perfectly. We also built additional tools to integrate it into
our setup and management processes. The only problem or lack of
functionality we've experienced is the inability to retrieve a list of
subdomains programmatically without parsing the zone file.

DIR "%USERNAME%\*.*"

If you put the username as a parameter to a batch

  filelike

ECHO %1 \\network path to your server here that every
  user has write access to\PSTsize.log
  DIR C:\documents and

server here that every user has write access
  to\PSTSize.log

Would give it to you. Of course you could
get fancier with the log file format, but this gives you the fundamental
  data.

Obviously you have to put this individually into
each users' profile with their username, so that will take
time...

The .NET framework is not needed for VBS scripts
or non-.NET executables, only for .NET compiled executables.

So now, the thing is to just find or have
someone write the script for you g.

Ifyou standardized
thelocation of the PST on every workstation, a simple bat file would
do the trick. If the directory name is different on each workstation,
then you would need to pass it a parameter to find the directory and echo
the dir info to a network file.

Heh..I"m working on the "get someone to write it for me" part,
that would be my bosswho came up with this idea about the size
monitoring of thepst files anyway.

Thedirectory is the standard directory
thatOutlooks installs all it's pst files, documents and
settings/username/local settings/application data/
etcetc

So,since everyone'suser name is different that
wouldput it in a different
directory.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] IMail 8.02

2005-08-24 Thread William Stillwell

There would be a main service thread witch would monitor the
status off all the worker threads..

basically, if the design were kept the way it is now (ie, declude called
on each delivery of a email)

declude starts. , isolates email, create worker threads to perform tests..
(ie, while
one thread can be performing dns tests, another could be doing sniffer,
while another
is virus actions) when each Worker thread is complete it can notify the
parent thread.

and threading is fun, you pretty much have everything in place to
communicate back
and forth between processes. allowing many instances of declude to talk to
each other.

Its been over 2.5 months to fix a problem that is mission critical for
many of us.
Pleased with the result?
Sorry but this is getting stupid.
Pleased with the result will be its working.
It means it does not crash our server.
It means we keep our clients.

It sounds like Declude is making a *new* version instead of fixing the
problem now.
I really dont have time to wait until Declude thinks they have a better
product - I need a working product now.

Amazing how fast a company can go down the tube.
Mine included when products does not work.

I have a great deal of respect for the people on this list and I hope you
don't feel this is a waste of time. I got this e-mail from one of my agents
and I am going to share it with the entire company - I thought maybe some of
you would care to do the same. I searched Hoasbusters.org first and called
the numbers and they are legit.

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE -- NO CHARGE Read this and make a copy for your files in
case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his
advice!

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company

1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first
name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will
not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name,
but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

[Banks don't check the signature.. ]

2. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put PHOTO ID
REQUIRED.

[Businesses can reject the card]

3. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT
put the complete account number on the For line Instead, just put the last
four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and
anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check
processing channels won't have access to it

[I don't pay my bills via my checking account]

4. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you
have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO
Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks.
(DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone
can get it.

[some states use the SS as the driver's license #, also, use Cell #
instead.]

5. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides
of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet
and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep
the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when
I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud
that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number,
credit cards.

[I never carry my SS card, just my DL and 1 CC, Nobody needs your SS card,
there

fore, you don't need to carry it!]

+6. Shread your bills.. or keep them filed away in a secure place, leave
your name

out of your garbage!

+7. Don't leave your name on your answering machine., better yet, use the
Stock

message

+8 Don't answer any Surveys regarding how many household members, dogs,
cats
, or how many hours your family watches tvs, and or how many tvs you own, or
computers

etc to anybody over the phone, Unless its the US-Census sending you a
Survery, you can't gaurrentee the person on the other line is a robber
casing your

house or a survey company.. (this goes for businnesses as well, Why would
they need to know how many servers I own!, Query my Ins company, thats what
there for.)

+9 If you have a security camera system, don't leave the VCR/DVR in an easy
to

access location :-)

Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet
was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive
monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit
line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to
change my driving record information online, and more. But here's some
critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or
someone you know:

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the
key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know
whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

2. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit
cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent,
and this is a first step toward an investigation
(if there ever is one.)

But here's what is perhaps most important of all : (I never even thought to
do this.)

3. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a
fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of
doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for
credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company
that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to
contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all
the damage had been done There are records of all the credit checks
initiated by the thieves' purchases,

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Move to 8.15 or 8.2?

issues (except for the odbc issue which there is a fix for).

Server specs: PIII 700Mhz 1gig Ram, machine runs with around ~500mb Free.,

Andy, it depends on what you want to fix.

I don't think that IMail 8.20 HF1 is cooked yet, and Bill Billman posted
last Friday that there is certainly a problem with IMail 8.20 HF? and
Declude, so I would stay away from that.

http://www.mail-archive.com/declude.junkmail@declude.com/msg24792.html

I would recommend that you go to the highest 8.1x that you can in order
to get rid of problems. For example, I'm at 8.14 somethingorother which
is the highest level that I needed.

I want features that are in 8.20 but I'm not going there until I'm
convinced that both Declude and IMail are very stable.

Thanks Andrew. I was thinking that 8.2 wasn't ready yet either but there
aren't really any features in 8.1x that I need besides the fact that they
have a patch for the latest vulnerabilities.

Is there a reason you decided not to go to 8.15 and stayed at 8.14? And
have

you had stability problems with the 8.1x line?

Thanks.

Andy

Scott,

No, Declude has not yet been
tested with Imail 8.2, although we expect to begin some testing very
shortly. We have been in the process of resolving some outstanding issues
and preparing to do an interim release. It would have been
counter-productive to introduce a new IMail platform in the midst of all of
this. We are aware of a problem with one customer who has tried to use
Declude with the beta of IMail 8.2 (attachment corruption). This customer
also had problems with smtpd32 repeatedly going down, although this is not
likely related to Declude.

As soon as we have started
testing and have any feedback regarding the results, we will post them for
you. If any of you have any feedback you would like to provide to us, we
would appreciate your letting us know about it.
Thanks.

Thanks.

I wasn't reffering to declude not working, There is
an issue with the odbc with
an external database, I was just informing people
there is a "Slight" issue with it.

I have posted the resolution for those that are not
aware.

Other than that, declude appears to be working fine
here.

Authentication is handled directly with IMail during the SMTP dialogue. This

How does SPF tell you that a rouge server is
forging mail from one of your customers, if you server isn't receiving the
forged mail? I noticed the majority of other email admins arn't even Running
spf..

for example:
nremc.com

then, there are the 1,000,000,000,000 hosts that
don't even have postmaster or abuse even setup.

As like anything, in order for SPF to work,
everyone has to implement and use it.

Ie, I got three "nasty" emails saying one of my
users was sending them spam, and clearly
it came from a remote server that was sending email
using bogus senders, and if there
servers properly used spf, it would of marked them
or deleted them as spam.

I'm trying to automate my dns zone creation and I am running into a
problem with TXT records. I'm using WMI and when ever I create an SPF
record (or any TXT record) it automatically adds a line break at the end
of the record. Does anyone have any experience with this or have any idea
what would cause this? The line below is the one I'm using to create the
record.

objRR.CreateInstanceFromTextRepresentation CONST_SERVER, strZoneName,
strZoneName IN TXT v=spf1 mx ~all, objOutParam

I've tried this every different way I can and I always get the same
result. In the zone file, it looks like this

@ TXT ( v=spf1 mx ~all
)
Also, does anyone know if having this break at the end will cause problems
with any SPF implementations?

I already tried that. I should have elaborated more on what I have already
tried. It does not seem to have anything to do with the quotes, because if
I do this...

objRR.CreateInstanceFromTextRepresentation CONST_SERVER, strZoneName,
strZoneName IN TXT v=sp1, objOutParam

I still get the line break at the end. That is with no quotes around the
text string and no spaces in it. If I do the same with quotes, I get the
same results.

It seems to me that it doesn't have anything to do with my code and is
automatically added, but I was hoping there was a way to defeat that. I
may be wrong though. All other types of records (A, MX, NS) work
perfectly, and TXT works except the line break. Anyone have any other
ideas?

Like a US law is gonna stop a spammer located in Hong Kong or
Nigeria..
As far as I am concerned, if the From Address domain is not
coming from the MX for that domain, I don't want the mail. However
not everyone uses there MX for sending out the mail., this was
the whole reason for SPF, but nobody has even set that up.
If the domain doesn't exist, or does exists, dns servers are
taxed probably the same amount.. regardless of domain
existance.

This sounds like an urban legend to me. Keep in mind that there was
some news release a few weeks ago that indicated AOL was seeing
dramatically less spam traffic. I think it is likely that AOL has
succeeded in blocking more spam, and the article was rehashed by someone
that didn't understand the topic and assumed that this meant a drop in
spam. This used to happen all the time, even in industry mags, back
when the Internet was becoming a big deal. Same thing with spam now.
I'm sure that they mess up articles about medicine, astronomy, etc., and
we just don't know enough to see through the mistakes.

I have commented out sniffer, ipnotinmx and nolegitcontent as those are my
suspects... Everything else is how the configuration was when I became
aware I had problems.
#IPNOTINMX ipnotinmx x x 0 -3
#NOLEGITCONTENT nolegitcontent x x 0 -5
#SNIFFERexternalnonzero
C:\IMail\Declude\Sniffer\wuckd6ww.exe y5abucz7zhoqeg0o0 9
These are all set up properly.
Are you seeing SNIFFER in the X-Spam-Tests-Failed: header when you think
that the E-mail didn't fail Message Sniffer but apparently did? If not,
what makes you think that the E-mail is failing the Message Sniffer test?

[Declude.JunkMail] Test to for attachments?

2004-11-11 Thread William Stillwell

Is there anyway you can scan the email to
see
if it contains a attachment of say .lnk, and the

email going to a user and a patictuler
domain
and then bounce or delete that email?

Since Declude antivirus can't be configured for

defferent domains, I was wondering maybe
it
can be possible to just have deculde
junkmail
delete all email that hashas forbiddin
attachments?

(No need to test the domain, as Declude
Junk
mail can be configured seperatly for each
domain)

That's funny that you should ask. I just coded that one up in VBScript
this last weekend. I even managed to decode base64 text attachments,
remove quoted-printable encoding, and strip out all of the HTML code. If
this is for archiving according to legal requirement, the attachments
would probably be necessary however.

Sandy had some good recommendations on how to archive. Maybe if you
shared your requirements with the list, someone would have some
recommendations as to how to approach this a better way.

Rick,
This information is in the Q* file. If you use the COPYFILE action,
it will keep both the D* and the Q* file. The only issue is that the
Declude headers are lost and each message is kept separately and not
viewable without a special application like spamreview. IMO, this is
appropriate for archiving due to legal requirement, but not for doing
review.

If you want to handle this in a different way by just sending to a
mailbox, you can use a WARN action with the %ALLRECIPS% variable which
will contain the BCC addresses as well. For instance, you could do
the following:

TESTNAMEWARN X-RECIPIENTS: %ALLRECIPS%
This of course exposes the BCC info to all that might view the
headers.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] DNS Servers on W2K box - AutoSecondary Script

Questions:
1) What if you follow good practice and disable Windows Networking on the
Network Adapter?

Also, you should actually Pull the DNS files from the master, not push onto
Slave. this way you
can add the net stop dns and net start dns to the script.

Just a Suggestion, as in its current form is a very nice script.

Hi, All-
I posted my DNS AutoSecondary script for anyone who would like to set up a
primary/secondary DNS arrangement. This allows you to maintain only one
DNS server. I've found it greatly simplifies the task of keeping my DNS
boxes in sync. It archives each boot file as it is replaced, so you have a
history. Installation and usage instructions are included in the script as
comments.

Hi,
I second Matt's comments. I have been using MSDNS for years with no
problems on an Imail server that runs 60-80,000 messages a day.

Be certain that you understand DNS well, particularly PTR entries.
Set up primary and secondary DNS servers on other boxes.
Install the MSDNS service on your IMail server box, but do not touch the
DNS service.
In your IMail server's network properties, under DNS, enter the IPs of
your DNS servers, and those of your upstream provider.
Point Imail's DNS to 127.0.0.1
Disable caching and failed domain skipping in Imail.

If you have the correct DNS settings in your DNS servers, you should have
no problems.

If anyone is interested, I have a well-worn script that interprets the
boot file from an MSDNS primary and creates a boot file for another MSDNS
server that sets it up as a secondary. Once you run this script, you only
need to change entries on the primary. You only need to run the script
whenever you add or delete a domain.

I've been running on W2k MS DNS with high volume and many lookups for
each message and it has performed flawlessly as far as I can tell.

I would suggest turning off the caching of DNS within IMail along with
failed domain skipping, and also make sure that there is only one DNS
server listed in IMail.

If you are still having issues, it would seem to be something that is
broken as opposed to a problem with it's ability to handle the load.

RSP It's in both of these sections (For support purposes, this step may
let us
RSP know the version you are running and official host name.).

Does Declude use Imail as a relaying MTA or it's own SMTP engine?
It uses IMail's IMail1.exe process (the same that is used for virus
