[Bug 195180] Re: user-mountable (nfs) filesystems are not showing up in Computer view of nautilus
This still exists in Ubuntu 8.04.1 Not only that, but if you right click a directory with the intention to share it as NFS, you get: ! Sharing service is not installed. You need to install the Windows networks sharing service in order to share your folders This is demonstrably false, since I am able to share my folders using nfs-kernel-server as I have always done. I don't use Windows... How is this remotely applicable? It also gives the impression that the only sharing option is a Windows option. -- user-mountable (nfs) filesystems are not showing up in Computer view of nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for gvfs. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I had the same problem, 'send/receive' permanently faded-out and unable to access mail, but other access (web, updates etc) all working fine. [Bug 247803] [NEW] desktop strangely shifted
Public bug reported: My desktop is strangely shifted to the right side of the screen, leaving an inaccessible space on the left. There is an panel on the left which just leaves a blank space when removed. The screenshots should explain this better than I can. Usually the panel is on the left. For the first screenshot I moved it to the top of the screen. Note the blank space left behind by the panel. For the second screenshot I moved it to the right. Then the part of the panel that was in the blank space remains there (top left corner of screen). ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- desktop strangely shifted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 247775] Re: Nautilus dies easily on bad gconf data (design flaw)
Thank you for your bug report. There is no real way to handle cleaning broken configuration so either the software continues to work in a broken way or raise an error, the nautilus team decided to raise an error apparently so that's not a bug. You should rather try to figure what broke your configuration and report that as a bug. If you want to argue on the raising error or working in a broken way you should use bugzilla.gnome.org directly, ubuntu is not going to change that in a distribution specific way ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: New = Invalid -- Nautilus dies easily on bad gconf data (design flaw) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247775 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 201433] Re: Dim on idle/battery does not work on Dell laptop
I tried fedora 9 and indeed the brightness keys work, but not correctly! (No dim on idle etc). It worked on ubuntu this way during hardy's alpha's (stopped working somewhere around alpha 6/beta). For this to work correctly all brightness changes should be done by hal so dim on idle/battery can function correctly. In Fedora this did not work (not for me at least) just as in ubuntu. The situation right now is as follows: - brightness keys are recognised by hal and the correct function in addon-dell-backlight is called - correct - brightness is not changed hardwarematicly - correct (or by a kernel driver that catches the keys or something like that) - the libsmbios call to change brightness does not seem to work - fail (try the command line thingie). -- Brightness and dim on idle/battery do not work on Dell laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201433 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 183136] Re: Error while Storing folder apos;INBOXapos;
I've got the same problem. This are the things I did that caused it: -On mistake, I moved the Inbox folder to some other folder. -I didn't realize it, and when I saw it had dissapeared, I closed evolution and opened it again. I had my Inbox as a child of other folder, and another (empty) inbox had been created. -Then I moved all the mails from my old inbox to the new one that had been created, and I deleted the old one. -When I started evolution again, I seemed had lost lots of mails (maybe they were just not in order and it seemed that to me). It started to sync with my mail accounts, while trying to store the inbox folder. It showed an error storing inbox folder, and synced again with my mail accounts. Everytime this happened, I got a new copy of all my mails from the server. -This happens again and again until I kill evolution. The next time I start it, same thing happens. I think this is not a low priority issue as Evolution is unusable and I may have lost info, and Evolution is a key application in Ubuntu. -- Error while Storing folder apos;INBOXapos; https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183136 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 215499] Re: Nautilus not preserving timestamps
I'll need some help getting this to the right group but it seems there is a larger problem here. People have reported a bug or feature in that Nautilus was not preserving timestamps, in particular, the file modification date, when doing file copies. I see the comments that this has been fixed and I can confirm that in Nautilus I can copy a file from one folder to another and the modification dates are preserved but ... and this is where it gets sticky ... I can see that other are having troubles with camera import and I've noticed that this same loss of modification timestamp is happening when I copy an image from Firefox to a folder or to the Desktop. Does Nautilus handle copies from applications to the Desktop as well? In 7.10 and previous and only where I could drag and drop an image from Firefox to a folder, the timestamp was also preserved and that behavior has changed as well in 8.04. You may not consider this important but it says to me that something has changed deeper down than just Nautilus. You've changed Nautilus to preserve timestamps but the behavior continues with other applications and I doubt that each of these other applications have each decided to not preserve the modification date timestamp on their own at the same time. Unless, Nautilus is managing all these copies and the patch to preserve timestamps has only been written to correct the problem when copying between folders. There are a few of us who use these timestamps to help keep order in our collections of images and when I moved to Ubuntu and found these were preserved in so many cases, it was like a Godsend. Please do find where this bug or feature can be correctly moved to preserve the dates across the applications. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. [Bug 247228] Re: gedit is ridiculously slow (and does too much work)
Hello Sebastien, Hmm, it's strange you're not seeing this. I seem to remember Gedit being slow on all four or so boxes I've had Ubuntu on. I've never tried it on another distro, though. I don't think it's a straight optimization issue; the excessive system calls I've seen seem clearly wrong, not just inefficient. I suspect something else I have on my system causes some weird interaction (something like fonts or dictionaries, I imagine). I have practically nothing installed from outside the Ubuntu repositories, so if there is some misconfiguration to blame I doubt upstream will help much unless we point out some concrete bug. Could you please run an strace -c -f gedit, kill the window as soon as it shows up and post the top part of the output here? I doubt the difference is caused by the speed of our machines, so I suspect you won't see the same calls I do, but I want to make sure before I investigate more. Also, if you know any of our Gnome maintainers, could subscribe them? Maybe they can clue me on what to look for exactly. -- gedit is ridiculously slow (and does too much work) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247228 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 242784] Re: rhythmbox crashes when adding music to iPod: segmentation fault
We are closing this bug report as it lacks the information, described in the previous comments, we need to investigate the problem further. [Bug 238261] Re: gedit crash on save as
the bug is not really an important one, it's just that the people who wrote the parser didn't consider that some users or software would edit the bookmark in a non defined way, not sure why you had those changes but that's not something an update would do since the update doesn't touch to user datas and that's not something the software in the default installation write, if you didn't modify this file by hand you likely used a non standard software which is editing the bookmarks in a buggy way -- gedit crash on save as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
