[Bug 242713] Re: Suspends that are longer than 6 hours will inexplicably claim to fail, but not really fail

2008-09-18 Thread David Fraser
Bother, I've just seen it looks like I've got the wrong version.
Unfortunately that's what I got from hardy-proposed (and apt-get upgrade
-t proposed doesn't show anything else)...

[Bug 242713] Re: Suspends that are longer than 6 hours will inexplicably claim to fail, but not really fail

2008-09-18 Thread David Fraser
I've tested this. Normal (short-term) suspend and hibernate work normally.
However, on my first overnight (9 hour) suspend and resume, I still got the
beeping sound and the message saying suspend failed to work properly. I can
attach any relevant log files if that would help (just tell me what, I have
captured dmesg, kern.log, messages and so on)
dpkg -s gnome-power-manager gives:
Version: 2.22.1-1ubuntu4.1

Hardy has it in View - Arrange Items - Compact Layout

Or does Intrepid have both that and what you're talking about? Anyway,
what version of Nautilus are you using? If both forms of Compact exist
that could explain difference of view between the two Intrepid users.

[Bug 271360] Re: compact view: scroll right when you scroll the mouse wheel down

2008-09-18 Thread A. Walton
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 238179 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238179

Intrepid has a new view in Nautilus, which this bug refers to (the
Compact View, as seen in Windows and Thunar and the like).

You can see it here: http://blogs.gnome.org/cneumair/files/2008/02
/screenshot-compact-icons.png

I'm still not sure if it's the right thing to do (it seems very, very
strange to me to scroll down and move sideways), but it's already
upstream. But thanks for reporting.

What video card and driver are you using? Are you using 32 or 64 bit

[Bug 242713] Re: Suspends that are longer than 6 hours will inexplicably claim to fail, but not really fail

2008-09-18 Thread David Fraser
OK, I've investigated and I was wrong about the version;
2.22.1-1ubuntu4.1 looks like it does have the fix (I'm on hardy).

I've looked at /var/log/kern.log and it seems bizarrely as though some
of the suspend code ran after the resume (although I could see that the
machine had a flashing light and was clearly suspended overnight) - I'll
attach the relevant section here, as well as that from /var/log/messages
(where you can see the gnome-power-manager messages)

** Attachment added: /var/log/messages from the time of the suspend till
resume is completed (this reported failure)

Damn, I forgot to answer you.
You should have some valid iso file and mount it through

the current directory.
Unmounting through nautilus doesn't work for these mounted iso images.

[Bug 215386] Re: Totem: Seeking in CBR MP3 is no longer accurate

2008-09-18 Thread Mike Crowe
I finally managed to write an Intrepid Alpha 5 CD that would boot for me
and tested this.

As far as I can tell the seeks are now much more accurate (or at least
consistent). I was unable to produce any obvious discrepancies. Once I
upgrade to Intrepid proper I will be able to do more exhaustive testing.

Thanks.

[Bug 240158] Re: Missing attachment icons

2008-09-18 Thread Martin Cativa
I can confirm all the behavior.
Do not work when opening with double click, and do works with Load Images or
with Previous/Next.

In my case, it happens with PDF, DOC, MPP and TXT attachments.
Works OK with JPG attachments.

Sometimes, the PDF icon shows the Adobe Reader icon (I have both, Document
Viewer Adobe Reader) and some times shows a white page icon.
Word documents display a white page icon.

Enabling or disabling Compiz has no effect.

No additional info if I run form console either.

I'll guess is related to Evolution getting Icons for the attachments.

[Bug 230089] Re: totem-xine progress thumb stuck at end after seeking to end of file

2008-09-18 Thread Mike Crowe
I've managed to reproduce the progress thumb problem in totem-gstreamer
2.23.4-0ubuntu2 using an Intrepid Alpha 5 LiveCD. The fact that it
occurs in both totem-gstreamer and totem-xine implies that it is a totem
issue rather than a xine one.

Note that it took me a few attempts to make it happen. The trick seems
to be:

1. Start playing from the beginning (I used an hour long file)

2. Seek by dragging the thumb to just before the end (about 97%)

3. Just after playback starts at the new position drag the thumb all the
way to the right.

4. Playback stops with the thumb at the end of the progress bar
(contrast this with the behaviour when playback reaches the end of the
file naturally - the thumb returns to the beginning automatically).

5. Hit the play button again.

6. Playback starts at the beginning but the thumb remains at the end of
the progress bar.

Re: [Bug 271343] Re: Gnome panel bugs with secondary monitor

2008-09-18 Thread h3
Kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic (32bit)
cpu: AMD64 4800
ram: 4G
gc: nVidia Quadro FX 1400
dual monitor setup: gxl, xinerama twinview

Ok that just got weirder, I don't think it's a problem with the graphic card
redraw. I just did the following:

1. took my panel from the bottom of my first screen and dragged it to the
top of my second screen, the panel froze
2. I dragged it back to the bottom of my first screen, it was still frozen
3. I dragged the panel back to the top of my second screen BUT accidentally
dropped it on its left edge .. it started working back ..
4. I dragged it to the top .. and it's still working ..

I'll cross my fingers, but I have strong doubts that it will freeze back
soon enough..

2008/9/18 Mackenzie Morgan [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What video card and driver are you using? Are you using 32 or 64 bit
Ubuntu? Does this happen on all screen edges and with floating panels
or only in certain positions? IMaybe the graphics card isn't properly
redrawing the part of the screen into which the panel is being placed?

I can't reproduce this problem using Compiz, 32bit Hardy, and fglrx.

[Bug 271734] [NEW] Gnome Xchat Wont Display

2008-09-18 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

Following a clean install via Ubiquity of Ubuntu Desktop amd64
(20080917.1), I installed gnome xchat. The install worked as expected. I
attempted to run the app, and the taskbar showed the app trying to start
but appeared to then hang, and after sometime was no longer visible.
Doing a ps -e | grep xchat showed that the process was still running
even though it was now inivisible under gnome.

Ive tried many combinations of uninstalls, reinstalsl, purge then
reinstall including the .xchat2 home directory. Other applications are
working as expected. When I run the app from terminal to see what it
might reveal I see:

[Bug 271135] [NEW] Too many passphrases required to sign folder

2008-09-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I right-click on a folder in Nautilus and choose to sign it, I am
prompted to select which key to use for signature and then asked to type
that key's passphrase. However, if the folder contains more than one
file, the passphrase will be required for each file. This is confusing
because it makes one wonder whether one typed in the wrong password, and
annoying because of the amount of typing required to sign a folder of
even a small size.

My proposed solution is to allow the user to type the passphrase once
and use that authentication to sign each individual file.

[Bug 271705] Re: Gedit should allow manualy choose encoding

2008-09-18 Thread Nxx
I use Ubuntu 8.04.

I open the file from an archive located in network, so when I open it
with double-clicking or 'browse' there is no encoding selection
dialogue. There is auto-detection, but it does not work. When I try to
open the file clicking 'open...' menu item and selecting the proper
encoding, it opens the file, but does not set the encoding I choose:
with any option the result is the same. Only if I save the file on my
desktop and open it from menu selecting proper encoding, it opens it
properly.

So I have different results when file located in the net and in my
desktop: in the first case the encoding chooser does not work and opens
the file with default encoding dispite what I chooise.

[Bug 271705] Re: Gedit should allow manualy choose encoding

2008-09-18 Thread Nxx
I also note that I cannot open the file directly from URL because it is
in the archive, so I need archive manager to unpack it. So I cannot use
'open..' dialogue to open file fom the network. Only after I opened the
file with doule-clicking (with incorrect encoding), then close it and
then use 'open..' dialogue which opens the same file probably from
cache, but in this case the encoding chooser though exists, does not
work and the file is opened in default encoding in any case.
