[Bug 295251] Re: Samsung NC10 brightness keys block keyboard and produce all-or-nothing effect
It's a fault in how some of the Fn keys don't send the key release code, making the OS think that the key is being held down. I have submitted a patch to the kernel which fixes this issue, allowing the Fn keys (including brightness) to be used properly. For those who want to see the patch: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12021 To get the brightness to work, you also need to add the following scancode lines to /usr/share/hotkey-setup/samsung.hk scancodes e008 225 scancodes e009 224 You should then find that the brightness works correctly. Chris, Thankyou for the clarification, apologies for my misunderstanding. Are you saying that this combination cannot be switched off inside Gnome HIG applications? If so, that appears very unsatisfactory, and bad design On Sunday 14 December 2008 20:34:07 Chris Coulson wrote: Thank you for your bug report. However, Shift+F10 is configured to activate the right-click context menu on a per-application basis in Gnome HIG compliant applications. This doesn't stop non HIG-compliant applications from using the Shift+F10 combination for other purposes, as this combination is not actually configured as a global keybinding. For example, if you press Shift+F10 with the mouse pointer on the desktop, the Nautilus context menu will appear. [Bug 308231] Re: Totem Movie Player Crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Please install also the debug packages as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 308261] [NEW] File Operations Dialogue is not scalable in Nautilus and causes Jitter
Public bug reported: On intrepid, there is a File Operations dialogue for each longer copy or move operation. That dialogue is not resizable. Depending on the estimated duration, its size jitters. See Screenshot. Probably upstream prob. It is similar to the other bug I reported that the remaining download time during dist-upgrade from hardy to intrepid and from feisty to hardy could not be read in languages hitting long words in localisation Suggested fix: make File Operations resizable via grabbing the corners/edges. GREEN: Sometimes it makes a newline, sometimes not, so the box resizes itself RED: No handles to rescale (like XP :-((( ) OFFtopic: one dual-core core of AMD x2 4400+ can handle approx 10 MB/s via SSH to Raid 5 array, the whole onboard 1:1 gigabit ethernet maxes to about 25 MB/s. When I copy the 4x1GB files all together, one single- threaded process gives 10 MB/s, sequential copying file after file. Thus, 2 files seperately start 2 threads - 20 MB/s. Why not autodetect the number of processes that give the highest I/O ? Or something similar to the background copy option found in Total Commander or WinScp on the Redmond OS? ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- File Operations Dialogue is not scalable in Nautilus and causes Jitter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 308261] Re: File Operations Dialogue is not scalable in Nautilus and causes Jitter
Here's maybe a better illustration of the problem. Notice: copy operation on the array is about 25 MB/s (arry runs on different 2007 hdds, 30-35 should be normal today on hdds, 100+ on good SDDs), one kernel at 100% without stepping to the max. As one of the three disks makes about 25 MB/s each, for Raid 5 copy on the same array this is pretty OK, like copy from hdd1 to hdd2, with the xoring done without significant impact. [Bug 307820] Re: HOLA
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System - About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. since upgrading to 8.10, I get the gnome-keyring popup asking for my keyring passphrase the first time I run ssh-add after logging in. This happens every time I log in. I assume the problem is that my keyring is not being automatically unlocked by gdm with my login password. I also have similar messages in auth.log. The one thing that the reporter missed out is that the auth.log messages are all coming from gdm. The only non-standard thing that I can think about my setup is that pam tries to get userids from 'ldap' before falling back to 'unix'.
