[Bug 303770] Re: Brasero DELETES all files (not folders)

2008-12-15 Thread Mattias Örtenblad
Oh my god!

Now brasero has deleted my files twice! Of course I thought I did
something wrong the first time, but the second try also made my files
disappear ON MY HARD DRIVE.

(Also, when brasero is checking port, it's always closed, even if I
forwarded it. This worked earlier.)

[Bug 276324] Re: update of python-gtkhtml2 in hardy-updates breaks

2008-12-15 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Apparently, most people have that directory on their system
automatically. I wonder why I did not. Maybe it is because I don't
install recommended packages automatically?

/usr/share/python-support/python-gtkhtml2 is not in
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/python-gnome2-extras/filelist nor
in http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/i386/python-
gtkhtml2/filelist I don't have time right now to dig further into where
it is supposed to come from. Maybe somebody can comment? That
particular directory exists but is empty on my system. I think I
created it by hand.

Do others here have that directory? Is it empty for you?

[Bug 308129] [NEW] F-spot don't start testing Jaunty i386 and give me a X Window System Error

2008-12-15 Thread Fabio Colombo
Public bug reported:

Hi guys this is what I get from the terminal:

blackdiam...@blackdiamond-desktop:~$ f-spot

[Info 10:01:50.125] Initializing Mono.Addins
[Info 10:01:50.300] Starting new FSpot server
The program 'f-spot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 362 error_code 1 request_code 143 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 305339] Re: Intrepid regression: Suspend from Gnome menu fails to resume on Twinhead H12Y clone laptop

Try runing:

If it doesn't work then I should say that the problem is in hal and not

[Bug 307906] Re: Shift-F10 keybinding not in Keyboard Shortcuts preferences editor

2008-12-15 Thread Chris Coulson
Any application can respond to however it likes to Shift+F10 - just like
CTRL+C and other similar shortcuts. The application that has focus will
respond to however it is programmed to use that shortcut - it is not a
global keybinding. If you launch an application from gnome-terminal,
give the application focus and then press Shift+F10, then the
application can do whatever it wants with that shortcut, and is not
limited by ant other application.

[Bug 295251] Re: Samsung NC10 brightness keys block keyboard and produce all-or-nothing effect

2008-12-15 Thread Stuart Hopkins
It's a fault in how some of the Fn keys don't send the key release code,
making the OS think that the key is being held down. I have submitted a
patch to the kernel which fixes this issue, allowing the Fn keys
(including brightness) to be used properly.

For those who want to see the patch:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12021

To get the brightness to work, you also need to add the following scancode
lines to /usr/share/hotkey-setup/samsung.hk
  scancodes e008 225
  scancodes e009 224

You should then find that the brightness works correctly. There is a
scancode for the battery to make it work (but I don't have it to hand)

The wireless and other buttons are still a work-in-progress

[Bug 308206] [NEW] When delete text in table composing new message dissappears.

2008-12-15 Thread Nacho
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10, evolution 2.24.2-0ubuntu1

What happens:

1- Create a new message.
2- Change from text to html.
3- Insert table.
4- Write some text in one of the cells.
5- Go anywhere in the written text, delete a letter and the text from that
letter on will disappear.

What should happen:

I would expect it to behave as usual when editing text which is out of a
table. If you delete one letter only that letter disappears.

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you

paste this text and save:

test and reboot and voila, works,,,

I believe I have this problem in Intrepid, new things stop spawning -
which also means if I go to system - shutdown a box appears but all the
buttons (restart/shutdown/log out etc.) can't appear - makes the system
largely unusable.

w.r.t. the workaround suggested, I have at the moment about 10 unknown
resources in xrestop, how can I relate them back to a process? e.g. how
do i know what's causing them? I've tried killing gnome-screensaver
which I suspect is the cause but the unknown resources remain?

Thanks,

Re: [Bug 307906] Re: Shift-F10 keybinding not in Keyboard Shortcuts preferences editor

2008-12-15 Thread MikeCalder
Chris,

Thankyou for the clarification, apologies for my misunderstanding.

Are you saying that this combination cannot be switched off inside Gnome HIG
applications? If any program is run from the Gnome Terminal it will cannot
receive this combination? If so, that appears very unsatisfactory, and bad
design

On Sunday 14 December 2008 20:34:07 Chris Coulson wrote:
Thank you for your bug report. However, Shift+F10 is configured to
activate the right-click context menu on a per-application basis in
Gnome HIG compliant applications. This doesn't stop non HIG-compliant
applications from using the Shift+F10 combination for other purposes, as
this combination is not actually configured as a global keybinding.

For example, if you press Shift+F10 with the mouse pointer on the
desktop, the Nautilus context menu will appear. If you press Shift+F10
with the mouse cursor in gnome-terminal, then the gnome-terminal context
menu will appear. If you press Shift+F10 in a non Gnome HIG-compliant
application, then it will respond however that application is configured
to respond when pressing this shortcut.

I'm going to close this bug report, as what you've described isn't a

[Bug 308231] Re: Totem Movie Player Crash

2008-12-15 Thread goto
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Please install also the debug
packages as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Thank you for taking time to report this bug. As you have already
mentioned this is a feature request and we so will set this to

gnome tracker so I linked it here. Unfortunately the bug was reported on
October 2005 and it seem as if there was not much progress on that. Good
luck.

[Bug 217685] Re: [Hardy] Some keyboard shortcuts do not work

2008-12-15 Thread Toby Bartels
I have this bug too. I can confirm that unselecting Show position of
pointer when the Control key is pressed fixes the bug. Note that Ctrl-
Alt-L (Lock screen), Ctrl-Alt-S (Suspend), and Ctrl-Alt-H (Home folder)
break, but Ctrl-Alt-D (Show desktop) and Ctrl-Alt-T (Open terminal) work
fine. (Various Ctrl-Alt-specials and Shift-Ctrl-Alt-keys also work.)

[Bug 308261] [NEW] File Operations Dialogue is not scalable in Nautilus and causes Jitter

2008-12-15 Thread Grizzly
Public bug reported:

On intrepid, there is a File Operations dialogue for each longer copy
or move operation. That dialogue is not resizable. Depending on the
estimated duration, its size jitters. See Screenshot. Probably upstream
prob.

It is similar to the other bug I reported that the remaining download
time during dist-upgrade from hardy to intrepid and from feisty to hardy
could not be read in languages hitting long words in localisation

Suggested fix: make File Operations resizable via grabbing the
corners/edges.

GREEN: Sometimes it makes a newline, sometimes not, so the box resizes
itself

RED: No handles to rescale (like XP :-((( )

OFFtopic: one dual-core core of AMD x2 4400+ can handle approx 10 MB/s
via SSH to Raid 5 array, the whole onboard 1:1 gigabit ethernet maxes to
about 25 MB/s. When I copy the 4x1GB files all together, one single-
threaded process gives 10 MB/s, sequential copying file after file.
Thus, 2 files seperately start 2 threads - 20 MB/s. Why not autodetect
the number of processes that give the highest I/O ? Or something similar
to the background copy option found in Total Commander or WinScp
on the Redmond OS?

[Bug 308261] Re: File Operations Dialogue is not scalable in Nautilus and causes Jitter

2008-12-15 Thread Grizzly
Here's maybe a better illustration of the problem.

Notice: copy operation on the array is about 25 MB/s (arry runs on
different 2007 hdds, 30-35 should be normal today on hdds, 100+ on good
SDDs), one kernel at 100% without stepping to the max. As one of the
three disks makes about 25 MB/s each, for Raid 5 copy on the same array
this is pretty OK, like copy from hdd1 to hdd2, with the xoring done
without significant impact. I love Linux!

[Bug 307820] Re: HOLA

2008-12-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 285879] Re: gnome-appearance-properties keeps asking to install unneeded proprietary fglrx driver when enabling or changing Visual Effects

2008-12-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package jockey - 0.5~beta3-0ubuntu6.1

---
jockey (0.5~beta3-0ubuntu6.1) intrepid-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/control: Update Vcs-Bzr: for intrepid branch.
(LP: #283765)
  * fglrx.py: Unconfigured driver defaults to ati, which already provides
compositing. This fixes gnome-appearance-properties to endlessly ask to
install the fglrx driver on systems where ati works fine. (LP: #285879)
  * data/handlers/b43.py: Add missing OSLib import. (LP: #295530)
  * data/handlers/broadcom_wl.py: If b44 is loaded, don't disable the entire
handler, but instead install a wl modprobe handler which removes ssb and
b44 first, then loads wl, and reloads b44 again, which makes both devices
work. (LP: #289845)
  * tests/detection.py: Fix yum printer test for changed package name on
openprinting.org. This only affects the test suite, so that it succeeds
again. (Cherrypicked from trunk r501)

[Bug 308275] [NEW] memory leak due to multiload-applet-2

2008-12-15 Thread Kees Cook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

[Bug 296193] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon: could not lookup ... (Intrepid)

2008-12-15 Thread John McPherson
since upgrading to 8.10, I get the gnome-keyring popup asking for my
keyring passphrase the first time I run ssh-add after logging in. This
happens every time I log in. I assume the problem is that my keyring is
not being automatically unlocked by gdm with my login password.

I also have similar messages in auth.log. The one thing that the
reporter missed out is that the auth.log messages are all coming from
gdm.

The only non-standard thing that I can think about my setup is that pam
tries to get userids from 'ldap' before falling back to 'unix'.

Let me know what else I can do to help debug this.

[Bug 220301] Re: update to hardy misses some python packages

2008-12-15 Thread Patrice DUROUX

Don't know why but Launchpad is very confusing. I still have the problem with
this version of the package using the source repository in my apt. Then
searching at Launchpad I found two different ways :

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/amd64/python-
gnome2-desktop/2.24.0-1ubuntu1

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/gnome-python-
desktop/2.24.0-1ubuntu1

Both of them don't tell the same story about the buildlog, very strange
:

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/1399/buildlog_ubuntu-jaunty-amd64
.gnome-python-desktop_2.24.0-1ubuntu1_FULLYBUILT.txt.gz

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20228221/buildlog_ubuntu-jaunty-ia64
.gnome-python-desktop_2.24.0-1ubuntu1_FULLYBUILT.txt.gz

I hope it helps.
Regards,
Patrice.
