[Bug 873470] Re: File-roller is associated with .docx files instead of LibreOffice

2011-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Funnily enough on older Ubuntu releases : this file is correctly
associated with libreoffice/openoffice AND it can be successfully opened
with file-roller (as docx files are zip files). But on Oneiric the file
is wrongly associated with file-roller and file-roller cannot even
handle the same file...

I think we have two different bugs here.

[Bug 505645] Re: Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP, Clip Plus) digital audio player not recognised properly

2011-01-18 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Hi Jonathan :-)

0781:74d0 : mtp mode, handled by libmtp
0781:74d1 : msc mode, handled by media-player-info

Your lsusb from Comment #5 shows that you are now using msc mode (you
were using mtp in Comment #1). So is the original reporter.

But in Comment #6 you have shown that you have an outdated mpi file
(which is normal as it is the one currently in Maverick).

Please update to the version currently in proposed and let me know if it
works :

1) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed
2) sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get install media-player-info
3) remove proposed repo

[Bug 505645] Re: Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP, Clip Plus) digital audio player not recognised properly

2010-11-07 Thread Jonathan Ernst
@Phil Housley
This should work in Maverick as it is now correctly handled by
media-player-info.

@Jonathan Blackhall
0x74d0 is the ID of your player in MTP mode (not msc). Your player should work
fine in msc mode in Maverick. If you still encounter problems in mtp, please
fill a new bug agains libmtp (run ubuntu-bug libmtp).

[Bug 596193] [NEW] file-roller doesn't handle Mac OS X zip archives containing accentued characters correctly

Every time someone using Mac OS X sends me a zip archive with files

[Bug 489170] [NEW] Evince cannot create some files because of apparmor if home-directory is not in /home/

2009-11-27 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Opening a PDF file in my home-dir (which is /data/jernst) results in

any error.

[Bug 462187] [NEW] A dialog with two buttons with identical function says that one disk is defective

2009-10-27 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I have a defective external hard drive hooked up on my computer. Every
time I boot my computer gnome-disk-utility tells me about it which is
fine but the dialog gives me two options ok/cancel which poses some
usability problems

a) cancel doesn't mean anything in the context (what can I cancel exactly?)
b) both buttons seems to have the same effect (i.e. close the dialog)

[Bug 280625] Re: Applications use the PC speaker beep for alerts altough a sound file is set up in sound settings

2009-10-26 Thread Jonathan Ernst
In Karmic, the options have changed a little bit. I have an alert sound
set in sound preferences. Firefox, Transmission and Terminal no longer
use de PC speaker, but now the don't beep at all...

I guess this bug should be marked fixed and another bug opened for the
new behaviour?

I attach the requested informations altough I don't think they are
relevant.

[Bug 450138] [NEW] Tabs are replaced by spaces

2009-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I was trying to send new usb ids to the linux-usbids robot and it didn't work
because evolution 2.28 is now replacing tabs by spaces in plain text mails.

It was working before in 2.26.

Steps to reproduce :

1) write a new mail
2) type testtabtest then on a new line testspacetest
3) send the e-mail
4) check your sent e-mails

Expected result :
lines 1 and 2 are different

Actual result :
line 1 and 2 are identical

According to tests with upstream and Ubuntu users this seems to be
Ubuntu specific.

The problem here is that Evolution by default will render the html part
wich contains testtest instead of testnbsp;nbspnbsp; like it
would if sending an html mail from Evolution.

When rendered subsequent spaces after the first space after the first
occurrence of test are not rendered (as is the cas with any html
renderer).

[Bug 450141] [NEW] When writing a message, if selection doesn't contain beginning of the line, it's impossible to copy it using right click-copy because selection is lost

2009-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce :

1) write a new mail in Evolution
2) select part of one line
3) right click to show contextual menu

Expected result :

selection is kept and it is possible to choose copy from the menu

Actual result :

selection is lost

Note that if selection contains the beginning of the line it works.

I can reproduce it in plain text, html in Evolution 2.26 and 2.28

According to tests with upstream and Ubuntu users this seems to be
Ubuntu specific.

[Bug 364456] [NEW] week number missing from clock applet

2009-04-21 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

In Jaunty the clock applet misses the week numbers and there is no
apparent way to have them back...

If it was done on purpose, at least an option to have them back in the
applet's preferences should be added first.

Here is an example of how it looked before

I have to disagree. I just tried Ubuntu 7.10, 8.4, 8.10 and fedora 10

[Bug 364456] Re: week number missing from clock applet

2009-04-21 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Old user : key exists but has no value and is a numeric key
Live CD user on older version : key exists has value true and is a boolean
After reboot on jaunty (it made a long time I didn't actually logged out) : key
exists, is boolean and everything is back to normal

My guess :
The key has been somehow converted from boolean to numeric and lost it's value
during an update.

I think we can mark this bug as invalid then.

Thanks for your comments Sebastien.

[Bug 347758] [NEW] Maximized windows spans to both monitors

2009-03-24 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

In jaunty, with two monitors configured with xrandr when maximizing a
window it spans to both monitors which makes it unusable (particulary
because de second monitor has a different resolution). I don't know if

[Bug 315752] [NEW] Cannot uptade command line when cwd has accentuated letters

2009-01-10 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

This is using jaunty, fr_CH.UTF-8, gnome-terminal encoding : UTF8

How to reproduce :
1) open gnome-terminal
2) mkdir Téléchargements
3) cd Téléchargement
4) type a long multiline command line
5) press up arrow to fix your command line, then home to go in the beginning

What happens :
sometimes the cursor goes too much to the left (on the #), then changing
letters corrupts the command line (jumps two chars, etc.) it's even worst if
you use accentuated letters

[Bug 280625] Re: Evolution and Firefox uses the PC speaker beeps for alerts

2008-11-21 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Can you please look in setting and tell me what sound you have set up
in both evo

Ok Evolution has a special plugin for mail notification. By default it
uses Bip which is lame. IMHO this plugin should try select by default
something like System settings and use the system new mail sound. I'll
open a new bug about it.

/firefox. If the main complaint is lame you should ask for it to be
changed, but im finding it hard to reproduce at this
time. Can you please give us step by step instructions on how to reproduce
 this in firefox.

(make sure that your GNOME sound settings have alert turned on and a valid
alert sound)
Ctrl+F, type anything that doesn't exist on the page

IMOP is evo and firefox are suffering from this it is either your settings, a
complaint, or its gnome, there is nothing simular
between firefox and evo. Can you reproduce this n any other app?

You are right, this bug doesn't affect Evolution (see my first
response).

This bug affects gnome-terminal as well (try tab completion on something
that doesn't exist)

Can you please disable compiz and see if it still is reproducable. IIRC
compiz sets its own sounds to be used.

I can reproduce this bug in both metacity and compiz.

** Summary changed:

- Evolution and Firefox uses the PC speaker beeps for alerts

up in sound settings

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce :

  Actual result :
- 1) An alert from the PC speaker is heard (PC speaker sound by default in a
2008 modern desktop for incoming mail is really lame)
+ 1) An alert from the PC speaker is heard (beep)

  Workaround :
- If you uncheck Enable alert sound, the PC speaker is not heard anymore, but
neither is the defined sound.
- = I don't know why new e-mails trigger Alert instead of New e-mail
- = I don't know why in this case the defined Alert sound is not played
instead of using the PC speaker
-
- A very similar bug affects Firefox : i.e. when no occurence of a search
- string is found, it should play the defined error sound (or in
- Intrepid's case no sound as the sound is not existent), but keep on
- playing an alert on the PC speaker instead
+ If you uncheck Enable alert sound, the PC speaker is not heard anymore, but
neither is the defined sound.

[Bug 280625] Re: Evolution uses the PC speaker to alert of new messages

2008-10-09 Thread Jonathan Ernst
The same problem exists in Firefox when searching a string that is not
found on the page.

I have looked in sounds preferences and can disable this pc speaker
sound by disabling Play alert sound checkbox.

However when enabled if I test the alert sound, it is a normal (wave)
sound.

This means that 1) The alert sound is not honoured in Firefox and
Evolution and 2) Evolution, choose to play an alert instead of the new
mail sound (which is not existant by default)
