Short answer: I don't know. That is in the Drupal database, and I've looked
around but there are a lot of tables and I don't know their structure & use. I
was able to get the total count of templates earlier because those are also
stored on disk and easy to count up.

I am certainly thankful for all of the support the project has received from
SourceForge. It is awesome. I do have concerns. I am exploring the size of the
site and whether or not there might be a better way to handle this rather than
being subject to the whims of a corporation whose priorities have and will
change. The final answer does not have to be Drupal. Or, I might decide to
learn Drupal. I am not sure.

Hi Dave,

I don't see how a different host would help with the lack of general Drupal
skills, or specific knowledge about the Templates and Extensions sites. But
I'll be glad to answer your questions. And to continue to hunt down any

50-60,000 templates per month

45-90,000 extensions per month

At those stats links you can explore over time, country, and platform.

SourceForge accounts are used to manage the aoo-templates and aoo-extensions
projects, which contain all the file releases and ssh/sftp access to web hosting
(apache/php/mysql). The Drupal sites are separate, so have their own security.
I am not familiar with how it was developed, but I would imagine it is standard
Drupal security.

Templates and Extensions

2017-03-20 Thread Dave Fisher
Hi -

SourceForge has been very helpful to the OpenOffice community. But with the
issues seen in the other thread it may be time to explore what it would take to
find an alternative way to host the OpenOffice extensions and templates sites.
We need to have quick support and there is risk to the community not to have it.

In order to begin an exploration of this it would be important to know the size
of the “problem”. A few questions about the scope.

(1) How many downloads in a month and what is the pattern?
(2) How many extensions are there?
(3) How many templates?
(4) What scheme is used for login/security?

Other questions and comments? At this time we are unlikely to get any support
from ASF infrastructure.

If any of these is confidential (like security) then please respond to that
part only at priv...@openoffice.apache.org
<mailto:priv...@openoffice.apache.org>

Dave

Apache OpenOffice Extensions and Templates New Sites

Since 2012 SourceForge has been distributing Apache OpenOffice downloads
and actively maintaining both Apache OpenOffice Extensions
<https://extensions.openoffice.org>and Templates
<https://templates.openoffice.org>sites. I wrote a couple of short
blog
<https://sourceforge.net/blog/new-apache-openoffice-sites/>posts
<

http://robertogaloppini.net/2016/01/12/about-contributing-to-apache-openoffice/

about the changes that affect end- users.

Extensions that have not been updated in a while report the following
message: "Warning message This extension was not updated recently. It
might
not work with latest versions of OpenOffice." See for example how looks
like the old Oracle PDF Importer
<

http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/oracle-pdf-import-extension-openoffice-3x

.

Registered users see an additional notice on unmaintained extensions
that
allows them to contact the original author and apply for a co-maintainer
role. Co-maintainers can edit the extension description and create
releases.

Registration emails and password related communications are now
delivered
in the language chosen by the user. It worth to add that we are more
than
happy to provide .po files to whoever is willing to help with
translations.
If need will arise we'll consider the possibility to upload localization
files to the Apache Pootle server so that existing translation teams can
help and the site can be translated into more than the current three
languages (English, French, German).

Recovering passwords has been simplified to cover cases where users had
difficulties in resetting their passwords: users receive an email in
their
language with a simple link to reset their password with no further
steps.

Sites have been converted to use a more efficient anti-spam system that
will improve handling by extensions maintainers: the system will not
trigger anti-spam warnings and page unpublishing when the author
modifies
a
popular extension.

*Changes users facing*.

*The new extensions home<http://extensions.openoffice.org/>*has a
strong
focus on the search box, a brand new logo, and an overall redesigned
look
and feel, where all menu items have icons for better readability.

*The new templates home*<http://templates.openoffice.org/>is
similar to
the Apache OpenOffice Extensions site, with a similar redesigned look
and
feel and different colors to highlight which application a given
template
can be applied to.

*The new administrative interface* includes a navigation bar at the top
for
Extensions’ authors that links to the most common actions. We also
improved
the GUI, making it more intuitive for uploading extensions.

*Search* has been completely redesigned too. It’s worth mentioning that
there are other changes sprinkled here and there, including an alert for
outdated extensions that provides an easy way to contact the original
author.

Over the last few months we have been busy redesigning the Apache

incorporating

As a result both sites are now easy to use both for end-users - see

prominent is the search or how using different colors we made trivial
to
understand for which application a given template has been designed
for
-

uploading

now trivial.

In the process we redesigned the look and feel, iconized all menu

oh dear. I'll notify Infra in a more direct way after this mail.

I also notice that my blogs.apache.org Roller account has a different

password than my ASF User ID account. (My Apache ID is used as my Roller

When I log in I see a list of blogs I can edit, manage, or configure.

The only blog that is listed is the Apache OpenOffice one and I am shown
as having AUTHOR permissions.

Since this was all created when we were incubating and I think Rob

Weir took care of it, I have no idea what the ceremony is.

The Apache ID has to be added to the list and then - as admin - you can
set the access permissions, e.g., author.

Marcus, do you have MANAGE privileges or something different than

AUTHOR?

I've admin access.

There seems to be a chicken-and-egg problem. I see no means to sign

up via a blog-page form, so someone must seed the account with AUTHOR
permissions for<https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/>.

Current admins are asfadmin (likey an Infra account), wave and me.

I have added a comment to the JIRA INFRA request.

If anyone has insight on how to activate an author, please say so.

Also, do we know how to have administrative permission for the OOo blog?

Normally:
- Login as admin
- On "Preferences - Members" add the mail address of the person
- Send an invitation
- The person accepts the invitation (via a link? I don't know)
- Now set the needed permissions
- Done

However, I was not successful in adding a mail address. Therefore the
ticket for Infra.

oh dear. I'll notify Infra in a more direct way after this mail.

I also notice that my blogs.apache.org Roller account has a different password
than my ASF User ID account. (My Apache ID is used as my Roller Username. I
don't think that is a requirement).

When I log in I see a list of blogs I can edit, manage, or configure. The only
blog that is listed is the Apache OpenOffice one and I am shown as having
AUTHOR permissions.

Since this was all created when we were incubating and I think Rob Weir took
care of it, I have no idea what the ceremony is.

The Apache ID has to be added to the list and then - as admin - you can
set the access permissions, e.g., author.

Marcus, do you have MANAGE privileges or something different than AUTHOR?

I've admin access.

There seems to be a chicken-and-egg problem. I see no means to sign up via a
blog-page form, so someone must seed the account with AUTHOR permissions
for<https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/>.

Current admins are asfadmin (likey an Infra account), wave and me.

I have added a comment to the JIRA INFRA request.

If anyone has insight on how to activate an author, please say so. Also, do we
know how to have administrative permission for the OOo blog?

Normally:
- Login as admin
- On "Preferences - Members" add the mail address of the person
- Send an invitation
- The person accepts the invitation (via a link? I don't know)
- Now set the needed permissions
- Done

However, I was not successful in adding a mail address. Therefore the
ticket for Infra.

2016-01-14 Thread Roberto Galoppini
Let me start by saying that by now at registration time language
preferences are kept into account. We made this change because we got a
number of complaints, especially from French folks.

For improving the localization feel free to pass me privately some strings,
or if you wish to contribute more heavily we could pass the .po file onto
you.

Let me know what works best for you.

Thanks,

How can we contribute to translate it?

Hi all,

Over the last few months we have been busy redesigning the Apache
OpenOffice Templates and Extensions experience, basically incorporating
feedback and simplifying the existing procedures.

As a result both sites are now easy to use both for end-users - see how
prominent is the search or how using different colors we made trivial to
understand for which application a given template has been designed for -
and admins - the most common actions are all in a top bar, and uploading is
now trivial.

In the process we redesigned the look and feel, iconized all menu items and

Hey Keith,

Thanks for heads up. Unfortunately I couldn't find any error log related,
but a client that has not been served as per server config (robots.txt).
I've downloaded SeaMonkey 2.39 but it works just fine for me. Wonder if it
could have been my hosting provider cache to fail, though.

Sure Marcus, I've already crafted a shorter (and less personal) version for

Interesting, SeaMonkey will not open it, but if I switch to IE via the
ieview extension it opens fine. below is the full page text I recieve
when I try to open in Seamonkey:

403 - Forbidden Error
You are not allowed to access this address.
If the error persists, please contact the website webmaster.

If you are the webmaster of this site please log in to Cpanel and check
the Error Logs. You will find the exact reason for this error there.

Common reasons for this error are:

Incorrect file/directory permissions: Below 644.

In order files to be read by the webserver, their permissions have
to be equal or above 644. You can update file permissions with a FTP
client or through cPanel's File Manager.
Restrictive Apache directives inside .htaccess file.

There are two Apache directives which can cause this error - 'Deny
from' and 'Options -Indexes'.
