Comparing OSM to Gmap might be interesting in some ways, but deriving data from one to the other is certainly a bad idea, frowned upon by fans of either or both. But it can be done. There are OpenLayers examples that can show the maps side by side. I have search and I think we can't do it :( There is at least 2 tools out there to do it: http://sautter.com/map/?zoom=12lat=41.88439lon=12.49489layers=BTFFF transparent overlay and the geofabrik map compare tool (side by side).
