[directfb-users] xorg - directfb

2007-03-06 Thread Alfeiks Kaänoken
Hello folks,
I have a stupid question.
Is it possible to migrate from Xorg to the DirectFB if I need just for
several gtk+ applications (gossip, evolution, dia), emacs, something like
xterm (how I can understand there is an alternative in the directfb) ?
Is it really or not ?
I'm using ubuntu 6.10 on my development laptop, actually xorg takes a
many resources on it (especially when I'm opening more then 20 C source
files on emacs).

Thanks and sorry for my strange english.

Hi,

If your app is based on GTK+ only (without any X11 calls and the like)
it shouldn't be a problem since GTK+ runs on top of DirectFB.
There's a DFBTerm that could be used as xterm.
There are still many apps that are not supported by DirectFB, you should
check each app separately.
Basically, the apps using Qt (although someone is working on it),
wxWidgets, Tcl/Tk and apps that uses specific things provided by a X11
Window Manager are not supported, yet :(

Regards,

okay, thanks.

What kind of the check ? Looking for specific X11 calls in the source
code ... or maybe simply?

Ehhh, I forgot the skype, it has a closed source and linked already to
the specific qt version lib...

 Regards,

Thanks

Evolution is GTK+ based, but I've never tested it with DirectFB.
I don't know about gossip and dia, I've never used them...

In the worst case yes.
Sometimes the app doc is sufficient.
However, the best way is to try it :)

I don't think it will work :(
