[Dspace-tech] Strange Behaviour when exporting items and collections

2009-06-09 Thread Manuel Martin Mohedano

Hi all.

I was doing some exporting tests with communities and items yesterday and there
was a thing that surprised me. Exported files are stored in a folder on server
called exports/downloads/number. The thing is the owner of this folder is the
root of the system but I don't have any root account on the machine. How is
this possible?? Can Dspace run processes as root??

Thank's and regards.

[Dspace-tech] ldap.id_field=?

2009-06-09 Thread Dr. Ahmad Al-Zubi
hello guys

does ldap.id_field take more than one attribute except ( cn or uid) for
example (cn,sAMAccountNameor cn/sAMAccountName)
coz I have a problem with loging in with username, I only can log with
Display name (full name) coz CN it self in DN path points to full name not
username. as below
DN (CN=Ahmad Ali Al-Zubi,OU=Regular Users,OU=KSU USERS,DC=KSU,DC=LOCAL) and
the sAMAccountName is one CN attributes, I thought to add this attribute to
ldap.id_field to force it point to username which is the value of
sAMAccountName.

thanx in advance

[Dspace-tech] Problem with Upload of Documents

2009-06-09 Thread Sharon Whitfield
I am working with Dspace 1.5.2. While in the submission process (which has
no workflow assigned to it), I upload my document and everything it appears
to be fine. I can see that the document is accepted that it upload fine.
If I search for the document, I see that everything is perfect; however, I
can now browse to see the item. I have tried Reindex the Dspace database,
but that has not help. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

2009-06-09 Thread Claudia Jürgen
Hi Sharon,

did you upgrade from a pre 1.5 version to 1.5.2?
Did you at any point ran [dspace]/bin/index-init?
Is there any further information in the logs?

Sunny greetings

[Dspace-tech] separate paragraphs in text areas?

2009-06-09 Thread Platt, Alice
Hello,

We are installing DSpace 1.5.1 with the XML (Manakin) interface. Last week at
the DSpace workshop in Massachusetts, someone pointed out that when submitting
an item, it is not possible to have multiple paragraphs in the textarea fields,
such as the Abstract. This will definitely be an annoying problem for us and
for many others.

Has anyone figured out a way to get around this problem? I did try using an
html paragraph tag, but the tag was just displayed with the rest of the text.

Thanks!

[Dspace-tech] DSpace virtual application

2009-06-09 Thread Michele Kimpton

Dear community contributors of DSpace,

We have been working with a company called Jumpbox to create an easy
to install DSpace virtual application. The JumpBox for DSpace allows a
user to run DSpace locally with a pre-built and pre-configured virtual
application. The application can be deployed on Windows, Mac, and
Linux systems to virtualization platforms like VMware, Xen, Parallels,
Virtual Iron, Microsoft Virtualization, and Amazon EC2. If you would
like to give Jumpbox DSpace a test run before we launch you can
download at the following link-

http://download.jumpbox.com/download/dspace

The tutorials that are useful :
Installation - http://wiki.jumpbox.com/doc/runtime/faq/install
Enabling Shell Access -
http://wiki.jumpbox.com/doc/runtime/faq/enable_shell_access
Here is a tutorial that explains how to edit files with a
graphical FTP client:
http://blog.jumpbox.com/2008/08/04/editing-files-in-a-jumpbox-via-gui/

We plan on launching this to the community next week to help new
users to DSpace get up and running quickly without the headaches
typically associated with installation and configuration. We welcome
any feedback you may have, particularly if you find technical issues
in the installation and set up.

best,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Login Screen customizations

2009-06-09 Thread Claudia Jürgen
Hi Jeffrey,

it is in chooser.jsp see

javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.fmt.LocaleSupport.getLocalizedMessage(pageContext,
am.loginPageTitle(context))

which refers to Messages.properties.

So you must change:
org.dspace.eperson.LDAPAuthentication.title

org.dspace.eperson.PasswordAuthentication.title

or any other title key for authentication methods you use.

Hope that helps

Re: [Dspace-tech] Strange Behaviour when exporting items and collections

2009-06-09 Thread Kim Shepherd
Hi Manuel,

I’m assuming that you’re exporting from the CLI here, but if that’s not the
case please say so..

Do you use ‘sudo’ when running dsrun? (I’m guessing so, or you wouldn’t be able
to create the files beneath the exports folder if it’s owned by root). If so,
you’re effectively running the ‘dsrun’ command as root unless you do something
like ‘sudo –u tomcat dsrun org.dspace.app..’ or ‘sudo –u dspace dsrun
...’ – the username you pass to sudo should be whatever user dspace is
actually running as.

If you get sudo errors when you try this, you may need to ask the sysadmin to
allow you to sudo ‘dsrun’ as your dspace user as well as (or, preferably,
instead of!) root. You’ll also want them to change ownership of
[dspace]/export/* to the dspace user, or you won’t be able to write to it.

There’s no need to be concerned about Dspace itself escalating privileges to
root when it shouldn’t be – the dsrun script will run as whatever user it
thinks is running it (‘effective user’), so if you make sure you can sudo to
the dspace/tomcat user rather than just to root, you should be able to avoid
any root-owned files/dirs being created.

If you’re using the webui or I’m totally barking up the wrong tree, apologies
-- maybe give a few more details about how you’re exporting items/collections.

Cheers,

Kim

Re: [Dspace-tech] Producing mets.xml for SWORD

Mika,

You may also want to try out the METS Java API (or other tools) available at
http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/mets-tools.html to see what suits you best.

Scott.

The Harvard METS toolkit gives you an convenient (though DOM-like) API
for the METS data model, takes care of some of the housekeeping, and
it has logic to prevent schema mistakes:

http://hul.harvard.edu/mets/

There's also a toolkit that helps you build a whole submission
package, including the METS. It ought to work with SWORD too; see:
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/DSpace_SIP_Toolkit

(If you develop any tricks or procedures for using it with SWORD,
please add them to that wiki page!)
