[Dspace-tech] DSpace update and Handle Server

2010-10-15 Thread César Sabater
Hi All,

Im trying to update my DSpace installation from 1.5.2 to 1.6.2, and I
have a Handle Service for persisten identifiers.
Do I have to modify settings in the Handle Server? Or leave the Handle
server running during the whole update process?
I'm not changing Naming Authority nor nothing related with the handle
configuration.

Cheers,
César

[Dspace-tech] Endnote metadata import in to DSpace

2010-10-15 Thread Antony Corfield [awc]
Hi,
Is anyone aware of a dspace add-on for importing endnote metadata (exported xml
files) in to dspace? I've had a look around and have seen this done for Fedora.

Thanks,
Antony

Re: [Dspace-tech] filter-media hanging

2010-10-15 Thread Blanco, Jose
Andrea:

Did you get this message. I'm now thinking I should try this patch:

https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-183

But before I do, I'm wondering if your patch might be easier to install.

Thank you!

Another solution could be update the version of pdfbox. Using the last version
of pdfbox we have solved a lot of issues, it could work also in your case.
I will post a patch to JIRA as soon as possible, in meantime you just need to
update the follow jars and remove some unused import in dspace code
bcprov-jdk15-145
bcmail-jdk15-145
icu4j-3_8_1
fontbox-1.1.0
jempbox-1.1.0
pdfbox-1.1.0

We had tons of problems with filter-media until we switched from using PDFBox

and 100% of our documents filter, except for those that truly are corrupt.

Take a look at http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/index.html. Also Google xpdf AND
dspace and you'll find detailed instructions on how to implement it.

Btw, we are currently running DSpace 1.5.1.

Good luck,

Sue

Thanks Sue; I was beginning to think it was just me.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Error importing SOLR stats

2010-10-15 Thread Eric Luhrs
I noticed a few files elsewhere in the tree that were owned by dspace
rather than the tomcat user, so I did a chown -R to change the
entire tree back to tomcat. I don't know which file (or files) was
causing the problem, but shortly after, the stats-log-importer stopped
giving the Service Temporarily Unavailable, and I was able to import
all of my logs into solr.

 Hi Stuart,
Sorry about that. I tried with and without the port specified in
config.cfg, and must have pasted conflicting info into my message.  I
 currently have solr.log.server = http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr/statistics
in config.cfg, and the same URL shows in importer errors.

 Hi Eric,

I can convert logs from 1.5.2 using stats-log-converter, but I get an
error from stats-log-importer. I can connect to
http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr using lynx, but nothing shows up on XMLUI
 statistics page.

 From config.cfg:

 solr.log.server = http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr/statistics

 The error:

 request: http://127.0.0.1/solr/statistics/update?wt=javabinversion=2.2
 org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Service Temporarily Unavailable

That is strange - your dspace.cfg says to use port 8080, but the importer is
not using that port.  Could you update solr.log.server to use
http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics instead, and see if the error reports
that URL instead?  If not, then there is second config file or
solr.log.server somewhere which is upsetting the process.

 Thanks,

[Dspace-tech] Geographic oddities with SOLR

2010-10-15 Thread Eric Luhrs
I have noticed some oddities in the statistics I just imported into
SOLR. I hesitate to compare results from Google Analytics to SOLR but
these are the only tools to which I have access. Here are a few of
the oddities that I have noticed so far (from the same item in both
reporting tools):

- Google shows no hits from Korea, SOLR shows Korea as the country
with the second highest number of hits.
- Google shows the country with the second highest number of hits is
Taiwan, but Taiwan doesn't even register in SOLR.
- All SOLR records that show Unknown Country also show a blank row
with the same number of hits under Top cities.

How do I verify that hits attributed to Korea are not actually coming
from Taiwan? Any idea what's going on with with the blank City row
with hits that match Unknown Country?

A related issue is granularity of geographic results. For instance,
Clichy shows up in many of our records, which I assume refers to the
suburb of Paris. Has anyone tried replacing GeoLiteCity with
GeoIPCity? If so, did you get noticeably more accurate geographic
results? And what changes were required to get GeoIPCity to work with
SOLR?

Other than these issues, I am EXTREMELY happy with the SOLR approach
to statistics. If I can resolve these issues, I think our faculty
will be very pleased.

[Dspace-tech] problems getting XMLUI working with DSpace 1.6.2

2010-10-15 Thread Allsopp, Michael
I just recently completed installing DSpace 1.6.2 in a Windows XP environment,
and am getting the following error when attempting to launch DSpace with the
XMLUI interface.

The error is as follows:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
org.dspace.app.xmlui.aspect.administrative.registries.DeleteBitstreamFormatsConfirm

The JSPUI is working fine.

Any ideas?
