Re: [Dspace-tech] Seach Error

2011-03-08 Thread Hardik Mishra
 Hi Aung Ko Win

Run seach index and restart Tomcat web server.

Browse to C:\DSpace\bin in command prompt and run below command.

dspace index-init

You should get command prompt back without any error.

Hope this will help

[Dspace-tech] SolrException: Service Unavailable

Hi,

Since we recently went live with v1.6.2 I've noticed a large number of the
following in our logs:

presumably not all, due to the frequent failures?).

I searched the archives and found a couple of other mentions of the problem,
but no hint of a solution beyond making sure your SOLR webapp is reachable
(which mine appears to be generally, and access also tested from the command

Anyone have any ideas?

I also wondered if the optimisations discussed here,

Any assistance/pointers welcome.

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace Mets profiles

2011-03-08 Thread Mark Diggory
Robin and Richard,

I started a dialog with Stuart Lewis a week or so ago about getting
the Packager system improved upon. I also had a dialog with Richard
about some of the BagIt packaging work he was working on. I've
started to outline some requirements for furutre enhancements to the
Packager system here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Refactor+Packagers+to+support+Chain+of+Command

One of my intents here was to see that the METS crosswalk wasn't
calling the METS Packager, but that it was the other way around, that
the Packager processed a crosswalk to get the METS, the problem with
the current approach is that it is conflating parsing the mets
manifest with processing the zip file contents, we would like to see
the processing of zip file contents be a separate stage from
validating the manifest and assigning metadata, such we would gain the
ability to extend a ZIP Packager to attain different packaging
formats like Bagit and IMSCP, rather than having to implement the zip
processing in those from scratch.

My thought is that this would liberate us to have implementations for
different METS profiles, SWORD, DSpace, even type based profiles
like...
https://pacer.ischool.utexas.edu/handle/2081/2066

Which IMO, was the original intent of METS, not Repository or Protocol
centric packages, but Content Type Packages.

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.6.0 Solr question

2011-03-08 Thread Debashree Pati
Hi dspace solr statistic experts,

Once we had our dspace updated to version 1.6.0 we executed all the 5 solr
statistics scripts.
This was done in Oct, 2010 and the start date was set in dspace.cfg as:

statistics.default.start.datepick = 10/01/2010

The next time the scripts were executed in Jan, 2011.

Clicking the 'Statistics' link shows Monthly Report for all months since Jan,
2005 but skips
the reports for Nov, 2010 and Dec, 2010.

I have 2 questions:
How to get the monthly report displays for Nov and Dec of 2010?
How to get rid of all reports before Oct, 2010? -- found some posting on this
dating back

to July 2010 but there wasn't any solution.

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Difference viewing in IE

2011-03-08 Thread Daniel Ishimitsu

Hi Karen,

We had this problem also. If I recall, our solution involved removing
the display:none for the short-description in style.css.
It seems like IE couldn't differentiate the singular span
class=short-description / tag from an opening span
class=short-description tag. So it expects a /span, but can't find
one and hides everything below the first community without a short
description.

Setting up autocommit seems to have fixed the same problem for us. We
haven't looked into query warmup yet.

Solr becomes unavailable when it's under too heavy load (eg because it's
getting lots and lots of post requests) -- autocommit appears to lighten
that load considerably.

 Hi Karen,

We had this problem also. If I recall, our solution involved removing the
 display:none for the short-description in style.css.
It seems like IE couldn't differentiate the singular span
class=short-description / tag from an opening span
class=short-description tag. So it expects a /span, but can't find one
and hides everything below the first community without a short description.

We're using the mirage theme in our new instance of dspace, and we've
noticed a difference in the layout between IE and other browsers. On pages
with lists, e.g. The front page with the list of communities, the
Communities Collections page, other browsers display the entire list; IE
shows only the first two items in the list (see the two image captures).

I know that the reset.css file controls differences in browsers, but I don't
see which item might affect this particular problem.

Re: [Dspace-tech] xmlui forgets themepath parameter

2011-03-08 Thread Ahmed Maher
thank you,
i use xmlui.supported.Locales in conf file to define another language
and i want to set different style sheet files or different theme to each
language
- i used mirage theme -
how can i do that ?

 Ahmed,

themepath is primarily for testing new themes, its not meant to be a
parameter that is passed throughout the application. Setting the theme
for the site or collections is part of the xmlui.xconf.

 Cheers,
 Mark
