Re: [Dspace-tech] input-forms_LOCALE.xml not recognized

2011-03-23 Thread Claudia Jürgen
Hello Josi,

the xmlui is not as far internationalized as the jspui and api.

Language dependant mails for e.g. the workflow come from the dspace-api
part and therefore are language dependant.

Hope that helps

 Hi,

 We are using DSpace 1.7 XMLUI on Ubuntu 10.10.

 We changed in dspace.cfg the directives
 default.locale = pt_BR
 webui.supported.locales = es, en, pt_BR
 xmlui.supported.locales =  pt_BR, en, es

 and created in [dspace-src]/dspace/config, input-forms_LOCALE.xml with
 LOCALE = es, pt_BR
 keeping input-forms.xml for English.

 Run mvn packages, ant update and restart Tomcat6, but the LOCALE files
 are not recognized.
 The file it is ok because if we rename the LOCALE file to input-forms.xml,
 it is recognized.

 The java code looks like recognizing LOCALE files.
 LOCALE files for email and news are ok.

 What could be wrong?

 Thanks in advance,

[Dspace-tech] Kubrick xmlui theme in internet explorer

2011-03-23 Thread Iola Hagen [ioh]
Hi we have just upgraded our DSpace installation to 1.6.2, moved to a new
server and have switched to using the xmlui interface using the Kubrick theme.
We are experiencing a lot of issues with the site in internet explorer (with
version 7 and 8) this includes:

* Overlapping text

* Narrow boxes / narrow drop down menus

* Test and div positioning

* Being logged out while navigating the site

Has anyone else had these issues? I know I could add work arounds for most of
these issues but I am wondering if it would be better to switch to another
theme - but I don't want to make another change unless it's for the better :)

By the way these issues are all fine in firefox.

Cheers for any advice you can offer.

Dear Volodymyr,

I followed what Sean has suggested and everything was OK.

Could you please let us know some more basic information, e.g. what is your
base OS? which version.

I recently install DSpace 1.6.2 in Ubuntu 10.04LTS with no problem.
The important steps are:

1. Install all necessary components

sudo apt-get install tomcat6 maven2 ant-optional postgresql sun-java6-jdk
apache2 libapache2-mod-jk

2. Add a line like 'host dspace tomcat6 127.0.0.1/32 md5'

to /etc/postgresql/8.3/main/pg_hba.conf (or

/etc/postgresql/8.4/main/pg_hba.conf)

In this case your DSpace database name is 'dspace' and DSpace instance is
run by user 'tomcat6'

3. Create a user name 'tomcat6' for postgreSQL
sudo su postgres
createuser -U postgres -d -A -P tomcat6
exit
(Remember your password for tomcat6 here, you need it for step 11)

4. Modify 'shell' of user 'tomcat6' and create a database 'dspace'
sudo chsh -s /bin/bash tomcat6
sudo chown -R tomcat6.tomcat6 /usr/share/tomcat6
sudo su tomcat6
createdb -U tomcat6 -E UNICODE dspace

exit

5. Make sure that settings in /etc/default/tomcat6 look like this
TOMCAT6_USER=tomcat6
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
CATALINA_BASE=/var/lib/tomcat6
JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024M -Xms64M -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

JSP_COMPILER=jikes
TOMCAT6_SECURITY=no
LOGFILE_DAYS=180

6. at URIEncoding=UTF-8 to a tag in /etc/tomcat6/server.xml so that it
looks like:

Connector port=8080 protocol=HTTP/1.1
connectionTimeout=2
URIEncoding=UTF-8   redirectPort=8443 /

7. Tell the system to use correct 'java'
sudo update-alternatives --set java /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java

8. Test if tomcat6 runs correctly
sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 restart
or

sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start

The following steps invlove installation of DSpace, and started from step
10, all commands must be run by user 'tomcat6'.

9. Create the install location (I chose /opt/dspace here)
sudo mkdir /opt/dspace
sudo chown tomcat6.tomcat6 /opt/dspace

10. Download DSpace source (I chose /usr/share/tomcat6 as my working
directory, you can make your own choice)

sudo su tomcat6
cd
wget
http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dspace/dspace-1.6.2-src-release.tar.bz2

bzip2 -dc dspace-1.6.2-src-release.tar.bz2|tar xf -
(You should have DSpace source codes reside in ./dspace-1.6.2-src-release)

11. Modify some settings in ./dspace-1.6.2-src-release/dspace/config/dspace.cfg

dspace.dir=/opt/dspace

dspace.hostname={put your host name here}
dspace.baseUrl = http://${dspace.hostname}:8080
dspace.url = ${dspace.baseUrl}/jspui

dspace.oai.url = ${dspace.baseUrl}/oai

dspace.name=Your DSpace Instance Name
db.name = postgres

db.url = jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/dspace

db.username = tomcat6
db.password = (Your password entered in step 3)

mail.server={set this if you have one}
mail.from.address=ds-nore...@domain.name

feedback.recipient=ds-ad...@domain.name

mail.admin=ds-ad...@domain.name

alert.recipient=ds-h...@domain.name

registration.notify=ds-h...@domain.name
handle.canonical.prefix = ${dspace.url}/handle/handle/

handle.prefix = 123456
handle.dir = ${dspace.dir}/handle-server

webui.submit.enable-cc = true
webui.submit.cc-jurisdiction = {your country, e.g. en}
webui.strengths.show = true
webui.strengths.cache = false

webui.feed.localresolve = true
webui.session.invalidate = false

webui.supported.locales = en, ja
xmlui.supported.locales = en, ja
xmlui.force.ssl = true
solr.log.server = http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics

12. Build the package. (You can run this command either in
./dspace-1.6.2-src-release/dspace or ./dspace-1.6.2-src-release)

mvn package

13. If there is no error in previous step, proceed to install your DSpace
instance:

cd target/dspace-1.6.2-build.dir
ant fresh_install

The last 2 lines of step 13 should read like:
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 2 minutes 0 seconds

Hope this helps.

Re: [Dspace-tech] REST API for DSpace

2011-03-23 Thread Bojan Suzic
Hi Mark,

sorry for late answer. I think this error is related to number of
database connections opened. As you have already noticed in the code,
for each request it creates new Context object, which maintains
connection to the database. Under some circumstances/conditions, I think
this object is not correctly closed at the end of request. I believe
this is causing an error, as after some time it goes over limit of
connections defined by RDBMS and therefore cannot open new request.
I noticed that error before in some other segments. After thorough
investigation it has been fixed, but now it seems the bug is present in
some other parts too.

I would suggest to try to increase number of db connections allowed and
to wait until problem gets fixed and updated in the source code..

Regards
Bojan

 Hi Steve,

 request is made is:

 http://localhost:8080/rest/search.xml?query=testuser=x...@xxx.compass=correct_password
 - got normal results again as the correct password is provided with
 the user in the query

 So, the code you are referring to is executed only if user or pass are
 provided in the query. If they are not provided, it uses anonymous
 user and further should not execute this code.

 Maybe you are using some older version from svn? The actual version is
 available at
 http://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/modules/rest/branches/dspace-rest-gsoc10/.

 Also if this problem still persists, could you then try to change this
 code to look like this:

 if (!(user.equals()) {
 try {
  ...
 } catch () ...

 }

 It could be that underlying code treats blank user differently.

 Kind regards
 Bojan

 The action I am calling is the search rest call I am making is search -
 http://localhost:8080/dspace/search.xml?query=testitem
 When this is called it looks like the method refreshParams is called in
 the AbstractBaseProvider class. This method checks if the user is logged
 in and throws an EntityException if the user is not logged in, which is
 the case for my search.

 try {
 EPerson eUser = EPerson.findByEmail(context, user);
 if ((eUser.canLogIn()) (eUser.checkPassword(pass))) {
 context.setCurrentUser(eUser);
 loggedUser = eUser.getName();
 } else {
 throw new EntityException(Bad username or password, user, 403);
 }

 Any idea would be much appreciated. We are creating a plug-in for Moodle
 2.0 so that DSpace can be used as a repository.

 So, if the characters are correctly encoded the question is did you a)

  Dear all,

  DSpace builds automatically a keyword catalogue which is based on the
  keywords in the subject field. The catalogue consists also of words
  including special characters. The special characters are displayed
  correctly in the catalogue as well. But if you click on it, the special
  character is not encoded in the search string. Exp: correct would be ü
  transformed to %FC; but the behaviour is, that ü is placed on the
  address line and dspace transformed it to ü. So, there is no search
  result, in spite of the keywords are based on content. Has anybody a

[Dspace-tech] Retrieving handle from resource policy

2011-03-23 Thread Jimmy Ghaphery
Greetings,

I'm slugging through the table relationships trying to figure out how
the resource_id in the resourcepolicy table relates to the resource_id
in the handle table and the item_id in the metadatavalue table.
Currently I'm going through 4 tables
(resourcepolicy-bundle2bitstream-item2bundle-handle/metadatavalue)

resource_id.resourcepolicy = bitstream_id.bundle2bitstream
bundle_id.bundle2bitstream = bundle_id.item2bundle
item_id.item2bundle = item_id.metadatavalue = resource_id.handle

Is there an easier way? Any handy sql to pull up handle from resource_id
field in the resourcepolicy table would get me a good part of the way
there..

I need this as part of a DSpace upgrade where embargo data from the
start_date field in resourcepolicy needs to find its way into the
metadatavalue table.

thanks,

Jimmy

[Dspace-tech] display bitstreams in an iframe

2011-03-23 Thread Allsopp, Michael
I'm wondering if it is possible to configure the dspace xmlui so that any
bitstream opened from a collection is always displayed within an iframe on a
standard html page or xls generated page?

We need our documents to always be displayed within a standard template that
displays our institutions term's of use information in-line with the document.
This isn't so much of an issue if the document is opened from the item record,
but is very important if the document is opened directly from a search engine.

I'm thinking that displaying the document in an iframe would be a reasonable
way to accomplish this, however I am open to suggestions.

I would be very grateful for feedback on whether this is possible and direction
on how to set this up.
