Re: [Dspace-tech] List of DSpace 1.7 features that are not already installed with base system
Hi Sue, despite the SWORD example, I'm still a bit puzzled with your difference between a pre-installed feature and one that needs to be implemented separately. With an implementation, do you mean altering the configuration or really downloading additional libraries/files. As far as I know, everything in the release notes is pre-installed but might need a little tweaking to enable: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+1.7.0+Notes Examples are Discovery and Mirage, which are very easy to enable by means of configuration, but not enabled by default. I think it would be a bridge to far to claim that these features need a separate implementation or installation. Hi we have just upgraded our DSpace installation to 1.6.2, moved to a new server and have switched to using the xmlui interface using the Kubrick theme. We are experiencing a lot of issues with the site in internet explorer (with version 7 and 8) this includes: * Overlapping text * Narrow boxes / narrow drop down menus * Test and div positioning * Being logged out while navigating the site Has anyone else had these issues? We install successful Dspace 1.7.0 on Ubuntu 10.10 using the following instructions - thanks to Panyarak Ngamsritragul for the steps: http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net/msg11235.html Re: [Dspace-tech] Install dspace unsucessful Panyarak Ngamsritragul Thu, 08 Jul 2010 04:59:11 -0700 Dear Volodymyr, I followed what Sean has suggested and everything was OK. Could you please let us know some more basic information, e.g. what is your base OS? which version. I recently install DSpace 1.6.2 in Ubuntu 10.04LTS with no problem. The important steps are: 1. Install all necessary components sudo apt-get install tomcat6 maven2 ant-optional postgresql sun-java6-jdk apache2 libapache2-mod-jk 2. Add a line like 'host dspace tomcat6 127.0.0.1/32 md5' to /etc/postgresql/8.3/main/pg_hba.conf (or /etc/postgresql/8.4/main/pg_hba.conf) In this case your DSpace database name is 'dspace' and DSpace instance is run by user 'tomcat6' 3. Create a user name 'tomcat6' for postgreSQL sudo su postgres createuser -U postgres -d -A -P tomcat6 exit (Remember your password for tomcat6 here, you need it for step 11) 4. Modify 'shell' of user 'tomcat6' and create a database 'dspace' sudo chsh -s /bin/bash tomcat6 sudo chown -R tomcat6.tomcat6 /usr/share/tomcat6 sudo su tomcat6 createdb -U tomcat6 -E UNICODE dspace exit 5. Make sure that settings in /etc/default/tomcat6 look like this TOMCAT6_USER=tomcat6 JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun CATALINA_BASE=/var/lib/tomcat6 JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx1024M -Xms64M -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 JSP_COMPILER=jikes TOMCAT6_SECURITY=no LOGFILE_DAYS=180 6. at URIEncoding=UTF-8 to a tag in /etc/tomcat6/server.xml so that it looks like: Connector port=8080 protocol=HTTP/1.1 connectionTimeout=2 URIEncoding=UTF-8 redirectPort=8443 / 7. Tell the system to use correct 'java' sudo update-alternatives --set java /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java 8. Test if tomcat6 runs correctly sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 restart or sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start The following steps invlove installation of DSpace, and started from step 10, all commands must be run by user 'tomcat6'. 9. Create the install location (I chose /opt/dspace here) sudo mkdir /opt/dspace sudo chown tomcat6.tomcat6 /opt/dspace 10. Download DSpace source (I chose /usr/share/tomcat6 as my working directory, you can make your own choice) sudo su tomcat6 cd wget http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dspace/dspace-1.6.2-src-release.tar.bz2 bzip2 -dc dspace-1.6.2-src-release.tar.bz2|tar xf - (You should have DSpace source codes reside in ./dspace-1.6.2-src-release) 11. Re: [Dspace-tech] REST API for DSpace
Hi Mark, sorry for late answer. I think this error is related to number of database connections opened. As you have already noticed in the code, for each request it creates new Context object, which maintains connection to the database. Under some circumstances/conditions, I think this object is not correctly closed at the end of request. I believe this is causing an error, as after some time it goes over limit of connections defined by RDBMS and therefore cannot open new request. I noticed that error before in some other segments. After thorough investigation it has been fixed, but now it seems the bug is present in some other parts too. I would suggest to try to increase number of db connections allowed and to wait until problem gets fixed and updated in the source code.. Regards Bojan Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply - the only thing outputted on the logs when the request is made is: 2011-03-15 10:14:15,017 INFO org.dspace.rest.providers.UserProvider @ user:anonymous:ip_addr=:entity_exists:29 Thanks, Mark On 15/03/11 10:16, Steve Swinsburg wrote: A 500 is an internal server error, what do the logs say? cheers, Steve On 15/03/2011, at 9:03 PM, Mark Melia wrote: Hi Bojan, I have taken the latest code from the SVN address above and the authentication issue is still there. [Dspace-tech] display bitstreams in an iframe
I'm wondering if it is possible to configure the dspace xmlui so that any bitstream opened from a collection is always displayed within an iframe on a standard html page or xls generated page? We need our documents to always be displayed within a standard template that displays our institutions term's of use information in-line with the document. This isn't so much of an issue if the document is opened from the item record, but is very important if the document is opened directly from a search engine. I'm thinking that displaying the document in an iframe would be a reasonable way to accomplish this, however I am open to suggestions. I would be very grateful for feedback on whether this is possible and direction on how to set this up.
