[Dspace-tech] DSpace IIS Integration

2012-09-26 Thread Lighton Phiri
We are at a point were we would like to open up a DSpace instance to the
public on the standard HTTP port 80, however, the production server we
intend to deploy the DSpace instance on runs a Microsoft Internet
Information Server (IIS) webserver on a Windows 2003 server machine.

The process of doing this via an Apache Web server is well documented
[1] but I cannot seem to find anything reliable, with regards to IIS,
except for some old posts [2,3] that have so far not been very helpful.
Does anyone know of an easier way of doing this? If there is anyone who
has managed to do this in the past, are there any notable challenges
that you faced/currently face? I could really use some advice here.

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace IIS Integration

2012-09-26 Thread João Melo
Hi,

a possible solution would be to configure the ISAPI filter in IIS to
communicate with a tomcat instance.

Hi Lewatle,

seems like the encrypted file become corrupt.
How did you initialized the handle server? With make-handle-config? Seems like
you haven't used it.
Try to re-initialize your Handle Server, maybe something went wrong.

I suggest:

Same method should work on MS 2003 Tomcat instance.

[Dspace-tech] DSpace logs

2012-09-26 Thread Calloni, Rodrigo
Hello

We are in DSpace 1.6.2 using XMLUI

We received two strange reports from people that work ingesting items in DSpace
last two days. They say that when they click the button to save the item
metadata DSpace was refreshing and showing all metadata blanked out.

We have at least 3 reports of this in the last 2 days.

I wonder if there is some kind of log in DSpace that records the transactions
it makes. I would like to take a look in this log to find some clue of what
happened.

Thanks!
Rodrigo

[Dspace-tech] Workflow definitions for batch import

2012-09-26 Thread Alexandre Zart
Dear friends

We are trying to create a routine to import data to our DSpace (JSPUI
version 1.6.2), using CSV files. The items we will import don't have a file
to be uploaded, this file will be provided after, manually. Because of this,
we need that the import workflow don't come to an end to the next revision
step (would stay in stand-by). Is it possible to make the import process
of these items (that will be associated to an e-person e-mail address) stop
after the metadata are filled, in a way that the user himself, owner of the
item, can provide the file to upload and just then complete the process to
start the revision step?

Regards,

Alexandre Zart

[Dspace-tech] dspace 1.8.2 : registering error

Hi,

I'm a new dspace user.
I've installed dspace 1.8.2 and I have an error when I try to register a
user with the jspui interface.

I'm using LDAP authentication et password, so in the authentication.cfg
file I have :

plugin.sequence.org.dspace.authenticate.AuthenticationMethod = \
org.dspace.authenticate.PasswordAuthentication, \

So with LDAP user, all is OK.

When I try to subscribe ( the /register page ), I send the form an
dspace displays An internal server error.

This is what I'm getting by mail :

[Dspace-tech] NOTICE: DuraSpace Wiki Upgrade/Downtime on Fri @ 2-3pm EDT

2012-09-26 Thread Tim Donohue
DSpace Users Developers,

We wanted to inform you that we will be performing an upgrade of our
DuraSpace Wiki (http://wiki.duraspace.org) on:

Friday, September 28 from 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT (18:00 - 19:00 UTC)

During this period, all areas of the Wiki will be UNAVAILABLE for
reading or editing.

The purpose of this upgrade is to update us to the latest and greatest
version of Atlassian Confluence (version 4.3.1).

This upgrade will bring with it one significant change and also add many
new features to our DuraSpace Wiki. See below for more details.

== Significant Change: No More Wiki Markup Editor ==

With Confluence 4.x, Atlassian decided to move all editing over to their
brand new (and vastly improved) Rich Text Editor. You are still able
to type Wiki Markup into the Rich Text editor. But, editing an existing
page via the Wiki Markup Editor is no longer possible.

More info for the Techies: The underlying format which Confluence uses
to store its pages has changed to XHTML from Wiki Markup. You will still
have the ability to directly edit a page's XHTML if you desire, but the
old Wiki Markup editor no longer exists.

== Many New Confluence Features Available ==

With this upgrade, we will now have the latest Confluence (4.3) features
available in our DuraSpace Wiki (wiki.duraspace.org).

The new features you may notice include:

* Brand New / Enhanced Rich Text Editor. This editor is now much
easier to use and includes enhanced table editing, easy page layouts,
Find Replace functionality, and auto-embedding media via a pasted in
URL. (Added in Confluence 4.0 and enhanced in 4.1 4.2)

* Like button Quick Commenting. Each page comments now have a
Like button (similar to Facebook) which lets you add quick
approval/thumbs up. There is now a quick comment box at the bottom of
each page. (Added in Confluence 4.2)

* Social @mentions. Similar to Twitter or Facebook, if you type @ into
a page/comment you can specifically mention another user to draw their
attention to a particular page or comment. (Added in Confluence 4.0)

* Tasks Notifications. You can create public or personal task lists
and assign tasks to yourself or others. In addition, there's a new Wiki
notification inbox which holds all your recent notifications or
mentions. These notifications can also still be sent via email. (Added
in Confluence 4.3)

* Mobile Interface. If you cannot get enough of the Wiki, there's now a
mobile-friendly interface for making changes on the go. (Added in
Confluence 4.3)

If you want further information about any of these features, please see

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 3.0 - Test-A-Thon!

2012-09-26 Thread Sands Alden Fish
Hello from the DSpace 3.0 Release Team!

I would like to announce the official schedule for the DSpace 3.0 Test-A-Thon
and release schedule. We kicked the idea around a bit and decided that since
there is still much documentation to get in (which is of course necessary for a
good round of testing), we will be adjusting the schedule as follows:

  Thurs, Oct 4 : Perform 3.0 RC1 Release
  Mon, Oct 8 - Fri, Oct 19 : Testathon
Mon, Oct 22 - Weds, Oct 31 : Bug Fixing based on Testathon
  Thurs, Nov 1 : Perform 3.0 RC2 Release
Mon, Nov 5 - Weds, Nov 14 : Final Testing / Bug Fixing
Thurs, Nov 15 : Perform 3.0 Final Release
Fri, Nov 16 : Announce 3.0 Final Release

(Please see the bottom of this message for a list of features that still need
documentation. It is very important that we get these items filled out before
Monday, October 8th.)

This is your opportunity to get a preview of the upcoming 3.0 release, while
also helping us to fully test the system and squash any last bugs!

During the Testathon, you can help us by testing an early version of 3.0 on our
Demo Site (http://demo.dspace.org) or other available Testathon sites (TBA).

If you are technically inclined, next week you may also download a copy of this
early release (3.0 RC1) and install it on your own local development server.

Some key 3.0 features to be on the lookout for include:

  - Item Level Versioning
  - External Identifier Services
  - Advanced Embargo Support
  - Discovery enhancements
  - Configurable Workflow Enhancements
  - Statistics Enhancements
  - Type based submissions
  - OAI 2.0
  - Discovery for JSPUI
  - Bibliographic Export Formats
  - Elastic Search Statistics
  - Alternative Metrics
  - Numerous other features, improvements bug fixes!

This is only a quick sampling of what this huge release will include. A full
list of features/changes in DSpace 3.0 can be found at:
  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+3.0+Notes

We will be sending more details about the Test-a-thon as it approaches.

Thanks! We hope you enjoy your preview of 3.0! Don't hesitate to get in touch
with any feedback!

 - The DSpace 3.0 Release Team

P.S. - Another big thanks to Tim Donohue and the rest of the 3.0 Release Team
for their dedication and work to make this release happen.

DSpace 3.x Documentation:
  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/DSpace+3.x+Documentation

The following seem to have little or no documentation at this time:

1. How to upgrade to 3.x -- nothing is written

2. Changes to Installation instructions in 3.x. Robin has been working on this
already, but some changes may still be necessary after the Maven Consolidation
work completes (plus need to review our prerequisites again)

3. OAI 2.0 / XOAI -- some docs linked off
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1202 (but they need to be moved). Also
need to search for all mentions of 'oaicat.properties' as this file is now gone
 replaced.

4. @mire Versioning feature (supposedly docs are coming)

5. @mire external identifiers service (this comes along with the versioning
stuff, but may need its own docs)

6. @mire Configurable Workflow enhancements

7. @mire Statistics enhancements

8. Type Based Submission (https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1127). Docs need
moving over.

9. CILEA Discovery for JSPUI (if needed)

10. Elastic Search Docs (supposedly coming from Peter)

11. Any other features that are new in 3.0 which are missing docs

Re: [Dspace-tech] incorrect timestamps in DSpace

2012-09-26 Thread Darren Arsenault
Hi all,

I have just noticed that the timestamps in DSpace are all off by +4 hours. The
timezone must be set to GMT (I am GMT -4), but I cannot find where to correct
this. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
