[Dspace-tech] DSpace v3.1 and Postgres v9?
Hi, I'm just in the process of planning a migration from DSpace v1.6.2 to v3.1 - as part of this move we are planning to upgrade as many of the underlying components as we can (as we are currently running DSpace on an OS that has just gone end of life . . ). So, having checked the docs I see that postgres 8.4 or higher seems to be the recommendation, but I was just wondering what the story is with v9? Is anyone running v3.1 on postgres v9? A search of the archives suggest one or two were trying it, but I can see no reports of anyone currently running it in production . . . ? Anyone doing it? Or know of any reason not to try it? You can run it at any time, just remember that you need to stop Tomcat to run index-init. index-init can take a long time to run, from dozens of minutes up to hours, depending on the number of your items and quantity of metadata. In case anything goes wrong, you can keep a backup of your current copy of the index, which is in [dspace]/search/. Remember, that it must correspond to your index configuration in dspace.cfg (if you didn't customize it, you're fine). There's an advanced trick you can use to reduce downtime - make a clone of your DSpace installation (especially pay attention to the mentioned browse index configuration) and do the indexing on this clone, while the live instance is running. When the indexing is complete, copy over the [dspace]/search/ directory to the production instance, which should result in a much shorter downtime. Then run index-update to add any new or changed items in the production instance to the index (since the copy was made). Hello Joseph, you can't select different schemata during the submission, but you can use any registered metadata field within your input-forms.xml. You are not restricted to use only one schema in the input-forms.xml you can use any metadata field regardless of the schema. Thus your input form can be a mixture of different schemata. In the input-forms.xml just use the schema name, the element name field dc-schemaYourSchema/dc-schema dc-elementYourElementName/dc-element dc-qualifierYourQualifierName/dc-qualifier or if unqualified dc-qualifier/dc-qualifier ... /field The label dc-schema might be a bit confounding it's a legacy from the time, when DSpace supported only one metadata schema. Re: [Dspace-tech] One handle server for two DSpace instances?
Hi Jessica / Nikolai, I've been looking into a possibly related problem. We are planning on consolidating/moving DSpace instances. We want a single handle daemon that supports multiple handle prefixes, and supports multiple DSpace (and possibly non-DSpace) instances. My understanding is that the Global Handle Service (GHS) (i.e. hdl.handle.net) resolves requests to your Handle prefix by querying your Local Handle Service (LHS). Your LHS has to respond with a YES or a NO (that you have a specific handle or not), and if YES, then you also include an HTTP URL to redirect the handle to. The handle daemon packaged with DSpace connects to your instances DSpace Database, and basically just queries the handle table for the existence of a handle. I think you could look at the Handle system architecture, and you build a custom daemon, that knows how to query multiple local repositories to see which one has the asset. For your problem of wanting to register a single handle prefix, and have multiple services use those handles, you run into a problem of needing to ensure that you don't have collisions with your services trying to assign the same number to different resources. You could either adjust the code for each service (DSpace) to have each one assign different ranges of handles. i.e. DSpace1 = 1..5, DSpace 2 = 50001..9 Or, since the right hand side of a handle is text, you could stuff another symbol in there. 1811/data- for your repository that stores research data sets, 1811/video- for video repository, and so on. Then you'll end up with 1811/data-1 to 1811/data-9, and 1811/video-1 to 1811/video-9. You prevent collisions, since each domain-specific repository would only use a specified middle-prefix. You still need to solve the problem of your handle daemon knowing how to speak for multiple DSpace instances. I don't have any prototype solutions, but I hope this helps to guide your thinking. Would it be possible for you to share the unofficial solution once again? As this is my first post I would like to thank everyone on here. It's been a great resource while learning DSpace! Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace statistics
Hi Nason, On 01/06/13 02:01, Nason Bimbe wrote: I am running Dspace 3.1 and I am interested in getting the number of downloads from SOLR. I run thishttp://localhost:8080/solr/statistics/select?indent=onversion=2.2start=0rows=100fl=*%2Cscoreqt=standardwt=standardexplainOther=hl.fl=facet=truefacet.field=owningCommq=type:0 and when I look at the results in the facets section, the numbers seems too high for a month's data. Looking into some of the docs returned I can see that some are bots yet my config says bots should be omitted. The dspace config setting doesn't apply to manual queries like the one you're running. You will need to manually append fq=-isBot:true to your query to exclude downloads by known bots. http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics/select?indent=onversion=2.2start=0rows=100fl=*%2Cscoreqt=standardwt=standardexplainOther=hl.fl=facet=truefacet.field=owningCommq=type:0fq=-isBot:true You may wish to run [dspace]/bin/dspace stats-util -u [dspace]/bin/dspace stats-util -i beforehand if you aren't running these regularly -- the first one ensures your bot IP lists are at the most recent version and the second one goes through all stats and marks hits from these IPs with "isBot:true". Finally, you say you want a month's data yet your query shows no restriction by date. So unless your stats data only covers 1 month, your results will be for a much longer time period. cheers, Andrea -- Dr Andrea Schweer IRR Technical Specialist, ITS Information Systems The University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand -- How ServiceNow helps IT people transform IT departments: 1. Re: [Dspace-tech] Viewing DRI in submission workflow

When I need to get the DRI from submission pages, I use firebug to change the action parameter of the preceding page's form to include the /DRI, then just click the form buttons as usual. cheers, Andrea -- Dr Andrea Schweer IRR Technical Specialist, ITS Information Systems The University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand -- How ServiceNow helps IT people transform IT departments: 1.
