Hi Glen,

It looks like you are doing everything right. You should just copy the
contents of [dspace]/webapps/ into [tomcat]/webapps/ (Not into the
*ROOT* directory -- that's just tomcat's name for the default web
application).

So, your [tomcat]/webapps/ directory should end up looking somewhat
similar to this:

[tomcat]/webapps/
  jspui/
  lni/
  oai/
  solr/
  sword/
  xmlui/
  docs/
  examples/
  manager/
  ROOT/

The first 6 directories above are all copied over from [dspace]/webapps/
(or you can just copy over the exact ones you want to use in your DSpace
install). The last 4 (docs, examples, manager, ROOT) are commonly
provided by Tomcat (they may differ slightly, but it doesn't matter --
DSpace doesn't need them to even be there).

Since this doesn't seem to be working right for you, can you check to
see if there are any errors reported in your logs? See this wiki page
for more info on how to do that:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error

Jon,

If you receive responses I'd love to hear them as well. Use of mysql is
something a number of us have been desiring for quite some time with seemingly
very little responsiveness.

Hi list,

we're upgrading to dspace version 1.6.2 and we'd like to use mysql as
the database solution. I've been performing some research and it looks
like there was a mysql patch some time ago, but it wasn't official and
died a death. Has anyone else managed to make a mysql abstraction for
dspace? would you be willnig to share? if not, could someone point me in
the right direction for writing our own and would anyone like to
collaborate??

thanks,
jon.

[Dspace-tech] Re-compiling Dspace

2010-10-09 Thread Bunton, Glenn A.
We are running version 1.4.2 and are in the process of migrating from one
machine to another. How do I recompile Dspace? In the original installation
instructions I did ant fresh install. To recompile do I simply do ant install?

Also I will need to re-index my database. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Can you upgrade directly from DSpace 1.4.2 to 1.5.1 without first installing 1.5?

2008-11-21 Thread Bunton, Glenn A.
A somewhat related question I hope...

If I want to move from a server that currently is running 1.4.2 to a new server
would the best approach be to install a clean 1.5.1 on the new server and then
move the data over? If so, are there instructions for how to migrate content
from a 1.4.2 instance to a 1.5.1 instance?

Sue,

You should be able to upgrade from 1.4.2 to 1.5.1, assuming you make
sure to perform all of the 1.5.x database upgrades. So, even though
you are upgrading to 1.5.1, make sure to *first* perform the upgrade
steps laid out for 1.4.2-1.5.0.

For DSpace, we make it a point that minor upgrades (1.5.0-1.5.1) only
involve code changes (i.e. the database structure will never change
during these upgrades). Major upgrades (e.g. 1.4.2-1.5.0) will often
involve changes to the database structure.

Hope that helps,

- Tim
