2014-04-17 Thread Poulter, Dale
Hardy,

Thank you for the tip. Sadly clearing the cache did not help.I was able to
finally get the site back up by restoring an older version of the xmlui.
Possibly one of the files was corrupted? No idea.Thanks again!

Hi, Dale, you might try clearing your cocoon cache.

 (sorry for the mobile link, I am typing on my iPad).

I will check email after my kids are in bed, let us know if things work out.

I have not found a way to upgrade the database directly from 1.6 to 3.x but you
can upgrade the code directly and then upgrade the database in stages. You
will need to start with
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Upgrading+From+1.6.x+to+1.7.x then
each additional upgrade. I hope that helps. Good luck!

I have added [org.dspace.authenticate.LDAPAuthentication] above password plugin

Now the chooser.jsp appears, but when I click LDAP login from chooser, on the
next [ldap-login] page. The password form appears.

boolean ldap_enabled = ConfigurationManager.getBooleanProperty(ldap.enable);
returns false no matter what has been set in authenticaiton-ldap.cfg

[Dspace-tech] LDAP authentication in v3

2013-02-06 Thread Poulter, Dale
All,

We have Dspace 3.0 up and running well. We have been able to get the LDAP
authentication to work but it does not pull in any of the attributes (email,
name, etc.). I have confirmed that our mapping email_field = mail is correct
as far as the ldap server is concerned. Has anyone else experienced this
issue?  Thanks.

Re: [Dspace-tech] LDAP authentication in v3

2013-02-06 Thread Poulter, Dale
 a hierarchical tree on your
# LDAP server, you will need to search the tree to find the full DN of
# the user who is logging in.
#
# * If anonymous search is allowed on your LDAP server, you will need to set
#   search.anonymous = true
# * If not, you will need to specify the full DN and password of a
# user that is allowed to bind in order to search for the users.
# * If neither search.anonymous is true, nor search.user is specified,
# LDAP will not do the hierarchical search for a DN and will assume
#   a flat directory structure.

# This is the optional search scope value for the LDAP search during
# autoregistering. This will depend on your LDAP server setup.
# This value must be one of the following integers corresponding
# to the following values:
# object scope : 0
# one level scope : 1
# subtree scope : 2
search_scope = 2

# If true, the initial bind will be performed anonymously.
search.anonymous = false

# The full DN and password of a user allowed to connect to the LDAP server
# and search for the DN of the user trying to log in.
#search.user = cn=admin,ou=people,o=myu.edu
#search.password = password

# If your LDAP server does not hold an email address for a user, you can use
# the following field to specify your email domain. This value is appended
# to the netid in order to make an email address. E.g. a netid of 'user' and
# netid_email_domain as '@example.com' would set the email of the user
# to be 'u...@example.com
#netid_email_domain = @example.com

[Dspace-tech] 1.7.2 discovery index fails

2011-10-28 Thread Poulter, Dale
All,

We have upgraded our test 1.6.2 installation to 1.7.2. The systems seems to be
working ok, except for indexing the discovery portion. When I attempt to
connect directly from the command line:

wget http://localhost:8080/solr/search/select?q=*:* (or any other parameter)
I get:

Connecting to localhost|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|:8080... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 500 Internal Server Error
2011-10-28 19:19:33 ERROR 500: Internal Server Error.

If I just reindex , /dspace/bin/dspace update-discovery-index, I get the dump
below. The dump seems similar to several earlier reports but none of the
proposed fixes worked. Any suggestons? Thanks.

2011-05-25 Thread Poulter, Dale
Good morning all,

Is it possible to add the collection and/or community to the OAI-PMH data? We
have a custom OAI format that works great but we would like to include the
community and or collection in the output. Thanks for your help.

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace 1.6.2 indexing

Hi Dale,

this is on your public installation at http://discoverarchive.vanderbilt.edu/
right ?

I saw this example:
http://discoverarchive.vanderbilt.edu/handle/1803/2949

with the title:
15 B. John Garrick: What Have We Learned About Geological Disposal from the
Yucca Mountain Experience?

I tried to retrieve it with the search queries Experience? and Experience?.
Strangely enough, the second query returned over a thousand results, while the
first one only gave 43. Searching on Yucca Mountain Experience works, but it
doesn't when including the question mark at the end.

In Lucene in general, the question mark symbol is a any character wildcard.
But any character should also match with an actual question mark, right?

I tried a similar test on another repository, where it did seem to work:
using the query Is what you see what you are? gives
https://lirias.kuleuven.be/handle/123456789/146635 as the first search result
when using the simple search.

So it might be something related to your configuration, as opposed to a general
problem.
Although I don't have the answer, still hope this helps.

Bram

This is a bug in the software. You will need to upgrade your maven version.

Here is Tim's response to me earlier this year.

Dale,

As Bram mentioned, this is a known issue. The recommended solution is to use
Maven 2.2.x or ABOVE (you don't have to used 2.2.0 specifically).
  This has been changed in the documentation at:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/Installation#Installation-ApacheMaven2.0.82.2.0orlater%28Javabuildtool%29

It sounds like you are currently using Maven 2.0.x, which has known issues in
building 1.7.0.

In 1.6 the webapp directory contained directories like this:

jspui lni oai solr sword xmlui

So in our case, we used the jspui implementation, and so that's the one we
deployed in tomcat

But after building 17, I see that the webapp directory looks like this:

about   controlledvocabulary  feedback   print.css
 subject-list.jsp
admin   deepblueoutage.html   help   register
 submit
aspects display-item.jsp  home.jsp   requestItem
 suggest

 WEB-INF
community-list.jsp  exception2html.xslt   META-INF   styles.css
 withdrawnerror.jsp
components  favicon.ico   mydspace   styles.css.jsp
 workspace

This seems weird. How can one choose which interface to deploy - jspui vs (

Thank you.

 Hi Dale,

 The current solutions are to use Maven 2.2.0 OR manually copy the
 webapps from their [dspace-src]/dspace/modules/[webapp-name]/target/
 directory. So, for example, the XMLUI webapp is built properly to the
 path: [dspace-src]/dspace/modules/xmlui/target/xmlui-1.7.0/ If you
 manually copy the webapp to the proper location, everything should
 work fine.

Hello,

Again down here with a problem. I have dspace 1.6.2 and trying to install it on
Ubuntu 10.04. I followed this link: http://ir.sun.ac.za/wiki/index.php/Dspace;
as suggested before while facing repository problem. I honestly tried every
step described there. I've also setup mail server successfully as I am
receiving mails. My dspace.cfg file is look like as follows:

dspace.dir = /home/dspace

dspace.baseUrl = http://dserver

dspace.url = ${dspace.baseUrl}/jspui  [hostname --fqdn]

dspace.hostname = dserver

dspace.namehttp://dspace.name = DSpace for My University

db.namehttp://db.name = postgres

db.url = jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/dspace

db.driver = org.postgresql.Driver

db.username = dspace

db.password = dspace

mail.server = dserver

mail.from.address = dspace-nore...@dserver

feedback.recipient = dspace-h...@dserver

mail.admin = dspace-h...@dserver

alert.recipient = altaf.mah...@gmail.commailto:altaf.mah...@gmail.com

registration.notify = altaf.mah...@gmail.commailto:altaf.mah...@gmail.com

default.language = en_US

Finally, my build process is successful. But when I browsed:
http://dserver/jspui [I didn't yet try default 'jspui' interface] it shows 404
Not Found error. Did I do something wrong? What else I can do further? However,
I am going for re-installation, also tried with the rebuild process. But in the
mean time I hope may be there could be a hint. I have been using tomcat6, so I
just put tomcat6 instead of tomcat5.5 as mentioned in the link. And my Ubuntu
is not server version, I installed apache and other stuffs manually.

Thanks for all of your help.

The server.xml appears to just point to the default webapps directory of
tomcat. Could try copying the contents of dspace/webapps to the tomcat/webapps

[Dspace-tech] Dspace 1.6.x not reading xsl

2010-06-23 Thread Poulter, Dale
Good afternoon all,

We have created a new theme following section 7.4 in
http://www.dspace.org/1_6_2Documentation/DSpace-Manual.pdf . This is the same
process we used in 1.5.2 . The style sheet seems to be read but the
template.xsl file is not being accessed. Any suggestions as to what may be
causing this issue?  Thanks.

Subject: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.6.2 Release to fix key issues in 1.6.1

The DSpace Developers would like to announce the release schedule for
DSpace 1.6.2, which resolves an few key issues in 1.6.1.

DSpace 1.6.2 is scheduled for public release on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

DSpace 1.6.2 is a bug-fix release which will resolve two key issues
found within 1.6.1. This release will not introduce any new features.

Shortly after the 1.6.1 release, it came to our attention that we
accidentally broke the Unix-based 'start-handle-server' script (which
provides an easy way to start up the DSpace Handle Server on Unix/Linux
servers). Although this issue does not cause any instability with
DSpace software itself, the developers feel that it is important enough
that it should be resolved as soon as possible.

The DSpace 1.6.2 release resolves this 'start-handle-server' script
issue, and also makes a few small improvements to the official DSpace
Documentation. In addition, 1.6.2 resolves a minor URL escaping issue
located in the 1.6.x JSPUI.

Because of the overlooked 'start-handle-server' bug, the DSpace
Developers have taken steps to improve our Handle Server testing
processes for future releases. CNRI (Corporation for National Research
Initiatives) has kindly donated a Handle System Prefix
(http://handle.net) to the DSpace project to help us improve our future
testing processes. We would like to thank CNRI for their kind donation.
  We also apologize for any issues this bug may have caused with your
local 1.6.1 upgrades.

Sincerely,

The DSpace Developers

The next thing to check is your [dspace]/config/xmlui.xconf file to
see if it contains the line:

aspects
aspect name=Artifact Browser
path=resource://aspects/ArtifactBrowser/ /
aspect name=Administration
path=resource://aspects/Administrative/ /

It sounds like you missing the Statistics Aspect that will add int he

Yes, its just returning one field of the srw record, not sure if its a
problem, just not a feature. I'd recommend possibly a JIRA ticket on
exploring if xslt can be used to provide users with simple template
option to set what the results should be formated like when turned in

[Dspace-tech] Dspace 1.6 simple display

2010-04-23 Thread Poulter, Dale
Good morning,

We are working on Dspace 1.6 and have encountered a couple of problems. The
main issue right now is the simple/brief display. In the jspui and 1.5.2 we
could use webui.itemdisplay.default which only applies to the jspui in 1.6. I
have looked through the documentation and cannot seem to find a similar setting
for the xmlui. Am I missing something? Thanks .

We have a test installation of dspace 1.6 and are attempting to set up
statistics but have encountered two problems that I cannot seem to find a
solution for yet. The first is that I cannot seem to find a way to create solr
statistical reports. The old logs imported fine but I do not see any reports.
Second is that non-administrative users cannot even see the statistics link
even though I have statistics.item.authorization.admin set to false. Any
suggestions?  Thanks.

[Dspace-tech] Viewing Dspace 1.6 solr statistics

2010-03-09 Thread Poulter, Dale
We have successfully installed 1.6 and imported our old statistics logs into
solr (thanks Stuart!). However, we do not seem to be able to view the
statistics on our site :8080/solr . When we attempt to access the site we get
a 403 (access denied). However I cannot see any problem in the logs. Our
settings are below.  Any suggestions?

in dspace.cfg

solr.log.server = http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr/statistics
solr.dbfile = ${dspace.dir}/config/GeoLiteCity.dat
statistics.item.authorization.admin = false
~

in server.xml

Context path=/solr docBase=/dspace/webapps/solr debug=0
reloadable=true cachingAllowed=false
allowLinking=true/

Hi Dale,

What do you have set in dspace.cfg for 'solr.log.server'?

Hopefully it will be something like: '${dspace.baseURL}/solr/statistics'?
Assuming it is:

i) Have you installed the 'solr' webapp as 'solr' (some people rename their
webapps)
ii) What setting doyou have in dspace.cfg for dspace.baseUrl?

Thanks,

Hi Dale,

Are there any messages in either dspace.log or tomcat's catalina.log that
appear when you start tomcat that say whether the solr webapp is starting up
succesfully or not?

Something else to try - by default the statistics solr instance is configured
to only accept connections from the local server itself. This is to prevent
external users making queires directly to your solr server. Sometimes we've
seen solr think that you are not coming from the local server if you contact it
via your-dspace-server.example.com. Instead you could try using
http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr/statistics as the setting for solr.log.server in
dspace.cfg (adjust web app name and port as approproate). We found that by
using 127.0.0.1 rather than the hostname, this is less prone to tomcat getting
muddled up over what is a request from 'localhost' and what is coming from
elsewhere.

I hope this helps,

Stuart

Hi Dale,

I've run into that when upgrading instances during testathon. 1.5.2 - 1.6rc1 |
1.6rc2

I've had to comment out those lines, and I haven't noticed any issues.
Especially since its dropping a constraint which doesn't exist.

Also, since I find it easier to just run a correct query as opposed to backup,
run bad query, restore backup, ... I find it easier to wrap database upgrade
scripts into a transaction so it either all works, or doesn't alter anything.

BEGIN;
whole bunch of db scripts
# ALTER TABLE community2collection DROP CONSTRAINT
community2collection_collection_id_fkey;
# ALTER TABLE community2community DROP CONSTRAINT
community2community_child_comm_id_fkey;
#ALTER TABLE collection2item DROP CONSTRAINT collection2item_item_id_fkey;
COMMIT;

I had asked this on the IRC #dspace back in December, and I think Mark Diggory
had asked me what version of postgres I was using, if it was pre-postgres 8.x.

Our production server is 8.1.11, however initial install and previous upgrades
would likely have been on an older version of pg.

I would like to question, as nobody answered the original post, who is
not having this problem with the XMLUI interface?

Because there is at least 3 instances with this problem, maybe we
could figure out something that is being used by these and not by
others to try to nail down the problem cause.

our's tomcat version.sh:

Server version: Apache Tomcat/5.5.26
Server built:   Jan 28 2008 01:35:23
Server number:  5.5.26.0
OS Name:Linux
OS Version: 2.6.18-92.el5
Architecture:   i386
JVM Version:1.6.0_10-b33
JVM Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.

Dspace version 1.5.2 XMLUI interface.
Using new template based on the template.xsl

Using Mark Wood's patch in
http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-253

(Not using his patch will trigger the error mentioned in the post
before very very often, so much XMLUI becames unusable).

Strange thing, is although all the chaos in XMLUI apparently affecting
DB connections, none of it is being transfered to the JSPUI side!
Is there a connection pool for each interface?

We already know about a concurrency bug in Cocoon's jnet, but this
problem doesn't seem to have the same exact symptoms, as can be seen
in http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-253.

Kudos,

Good morning,

We are upgrading to 1.5.2 but have experienced a strange issue. Diacritics show
correctly everywhere except for the collection description
(http://libapp2.library.vanderbilt.edu:8080/xmlui/handle/1803/2088) .  I have
been unable to find the issue with the xsl. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Hi,

On a new installation of 1.5.1 DSpace, after creating a community, I see
in the Admin Tools part of the web-frontend a button labelled

  ???jsp.mydspace.request.export.community.???

It shows below the buttons edit, create collection, create
sub-community.

Does anyone know what's missing? perhaps something related to
Messages.properties?

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] Minho stats add-on for Dspace 1.5

This has been a very confusing issue because some along the way have
said that it doesn't work, and then the topic was discussed at length
in an online DSpace-sponsored chat at the end of 2008 where someone
suggested that a release available from Minho would allow it to work.
As a result of that discussion, the following was posted to the DSpace
1.5.1 release home page:

This release contains numerous bug fixes from the 1.5.0 release,
including: browsing, display, and workflow issues in XMLUI; search
result and submissions issues in JSPUI; Oracle compatibility; and some
minor stability corrections. In addition, the University of Minho
statistics package will now work with XMLUI as well as JSPUI.
More details can be found at
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Next_Release_Status;

That text still exists at http://www.dspace.org/index.php/Software.

Does anybody else agree/disagree that it currently doesn't work with
1.5.1 running XMLUI?

I just tried adding a book to my DSpace collection for the first time

see that unlike journal articles, book metadata does not have
dc.subject! How do I specify subject(s) for a book please?

We will extend the tablespace, I hope it will fix my problem.

For yours, I suspect that you did not downgrade your database, as
itemsbyauthor is a table in 1.4.2 (and certainly in 1.4.1).
Maybe you should reinstall 1.4.2?

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace 1.5 ant error(building the dspace binaries)

2008-06-01 Thread Poulter, Dale
What version of ant are you running? If I remember correctly, I
encountered this issue with either an earlier version of ant or java. I
upgrade java to 1.6 and ant to 1.7.

However, if I link using the handle I get the error below. Any

[Dspace-tech] Database error --upgrade to 1.5

2008-04-14 Thread Poulter, Dale
Good afternoon all,

We have upgraded our test server to dspace 1.5. After running through
the process a couple of times we are still getting the error
org.dspace.browse.ItemCountException: Database type: null is not
currently supported, any suggestions as to the cause/solution? Thanks.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Diacritic problem in 1.4.2

2007-08-14 Thread Poulter, Dale
Christian,

I have checked on both installations and the encoding for the Dspace database
is UNICODE. The OS version on the 1.3 instance is Solaris 9 and on the 1.4
version is Solaris 10, that is the only difference I can see between the two
systems.   Thanks.

No, but I did not try so far. Used a fresh install for testing.
 An example is Mutsûra, it works in the older version but after
 the upgrade a search on Mutsûra is translated to Mutsûra and
 fails. Any help will be appreciated.
Did you rebuild the index? This is the only thing a can think of.

Did you change anything else along your way? Client locale setting,
a new browser, tomcat or postgres? You probably created a new db
and imported the data if you are testing. Run psql and run \l
to see encoding of the db to make sure this is not the reason
(I doubt it is). I am off for some days, please post back to list.

Bye, Christian

Re: [Dspace-tech] Diacritic problem in 1.4.2 --resolved

2007-08-14 Thread Poulter, Dale
All,

I reviewed my settings again and realized that I had failed to define UTF-8
encoding the new tomcat instance. Once this change was made everything worked
correctly.  Thanks.
