You probably missed a couple of things when setting the environment variables. Alternatively, have you tried executing the commands using a new terminal session after the set up... that might also be the reason why. Apache Ant 1.6.2 or later. Unzip the package in C:\ and add C:\apache-ant- 1.6.2\bin to the PATH environment variable. For Ant to work properly, you should ensure that JAVA_HOME is set. This is what an unofficial DSpace installation manual says about installing Ant on Windows. Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace installation on Win 7(32bit)
I would suggest that you follow the instructions of installing ant from the ant site ... ant.apache.org/manual/index.html. there can only be two things: 1. you don't have the files in your ant installation folder (C:\apache-ant- 1.6.2\bin) --test this by opening your command line, then type cd C:\apache-ant- 1.6.2\bin, without the quotes, if it says it doesn't recognise your ant, unzip, and take note of the path to your folder 2. you set the wrong path in in your environmental variables: if 1. was successful, then just set the right environmental variable, then it should work. if u properly followed these steps, then... hope this helps -- View this message in context: http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/Dspace-installation-on-Win-7-32bit-tp4656441p4656444.html Sent from the DSpace - Tech mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace Installation error
Hello, Could you let us know what version of Maven you are using? For DSpace 1.7.0, you should be using Maven 2.2.x or above. Once you verify your version of Maven, you may also wish to try running: 'mvn -U clean package' The '-U' option forces Maven to update all it's internal dependencies in its cache, and 'clean' will just clean up before rebuilding DSpace. - Tim On 1/24/2011 12:23 AM, Palash Kumar Nandi wrote: Dear Friends, Trying to install Dspace Software 1.7.0. Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace installation using shell script
Hi Sudipta, Successfully installing DSpace generally requires some systems administration knowledge, especially installing on Red Hat. Ubuntu's a bit more user friendly, so the guide in the wiki for installing DSpace 1.7 on Ubuntu 10.10 is about as easy as it can get. https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Installing+DSpace+1.7+on+Ubuntu+10.10 There is related work to further simplify the installation of DSpace by packaging an entire install into a single jar that includes all of the prerequisites, but thats still a work-in-progress. -- Peter Dietz Systems Developer/Engineer Ohio State University Libraries On Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 10:38 AM, dspace nsu dspace...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Sir, I want to install dspace using shell script which will automatically install all the necessary software in RHEL 5 system. Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace installation using shell script
Hi Sudipta, I have started doing this using Ubuntu 10.04 server and Dspace 1.7.0. There are multiple script as some parts are installed as root and others as dspace ie install-tomcat.sh (root), install-dspace.sh (dspace user) and some others to install Centera libraries to use as datastore etc. It also incorporates a configuration file you have to set before installing. Not quite finished yet but does allow me a very fast installation. (It also drops the .m2 directory and only needs to downloads updates - approx 300Mb tar.gz file) You basically just need to type the correct password at the stage of installation as required. The scripts are heavily customized for my own server but I could let you have them as a start for your own. People with this problem in the past were unable to download that file, probably because they required proxy to access the internet and they didn't set up ant to use proxy. Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace Installation/Setup Assistance
Hi Adam, I found a guide for installing dspace on ubuntu, I remember following something like these when I first got started. http://oldwiki.dspace.org/index.php/Installing_DSpace_1.5_on_Ubuntu_8.04 http://oldwiki.dspace.org/index.php/Installing_DSpace_1.5_on_Ubuntu_8.04 http://kmtk.cs.ait.ac.th/knowledge-center/how-to/install-dspace-1.5-on-ubuntu-server-8.0.4 http://kmtk.cs.ait.ac.th/knowledge-center/how-to/install-dspace-1.5-on-ubuntu-server-8.0.4 Installing DSpace itself is pretty straightforward, however it can be a pain to get all of the prerequisite software installed and configured. More than just booting a LAMP instance. But, once you've gotten DSpace up and running, then you'll be able to customize your theme/UI for your photo gallery. Most likely that would involve CSS/XSLT with the XMLUI. Example in action: http://dspace.nitle.org/handle/10090/2468/browse?type=title A screenshot of one I was working on: http://picasaweb.google.com/pdietz84/OSULibraries#slideshow/5469790103358361778 I would say its doable, so good luck. I have some experience with Ubuntu server but would like to know if there is an easy how to installation guide. Are there any specific things that you don't see how to? Ubuntu's package manager should fetch and install Java, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, Maven, and Ant for you. You can do that yourself, if you prefer, but you'll need to get instructions on each product from its own site, and work out how you want the DBMS and servlet container to be started at system startup. One thing to be careful of, when using the package manager, is user accounts and file ownership. The DSpace installation instructions assume you are installing the prerequisites by hand, and would have you create a user 'dspace' and install Tomcat to run as that user. The package manager has never heard of DSpace and will probably pick a username such as 'tomcat'. Use the account that the package manager created; don't try to create another named 'dspace' to own DSpace. Tomcat insists on owning nearly every file and directory it touches. DSpace won't care what account is used, and should be owned by whatever owns Tomcat. There's no reason to avoid the package manager if, as I do, you prefer to use it, but you need to keep this simple translation in mind. DSpace also needs an account within the DBMS, which is (typically) separate from the OS account and can be named anything. There's no need to translate it to match the Tomcat account. (I should mention that I run DSpace on Gentoo Linux, and have almost no knowledge specific to Ubuntu. There are others here who do use Ubuntu.) Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace Installation in Windows (dspace.cfg)
I am fairly new to Dspace, but I think that the web.xml in \dspace\target\dspace-1.5.1-build.dir\webapps\jspui\WEB-INF\ is suppose to remain with the variable and that the variable is not expanded until the ant update_webapps moves the web.xml to the C:\DSpace\webapps\jspui\WEB-INF (assuming C:\DSpace is your install directory). But I could be wrong. Are you trying to host \dspace\target\dspace-1.5.1-build.dir\webapps\jspui\ instead of C:\DSpace\webapps\jspui\ ? The following is from update_webapps in the build.xml file: copy todir=${dspace.dir}/webapps preservelastmodified=false failonerror=no fileset dir=webapps include name=**/web.xml / /fileset filterchain expandproperties / /filterchain /copy If you wanted to use \dspace\target\dspace-1.5.1-build.dir\webapps\jspui\ to host dspace you probably could write a custom ant script to expand the properties in the web.xml located there. Hopefully this helps to answer your question. - Jason Gum On Mon, Feb 9, 2009 at 3:08 AM, Andrew Marlow marlow.and...@googlemail.comwrote: On Mon, Feb 9, 2009 at 6:27 AM, Rathipriya K rathi.pri...@gmail.comwrote: Am also facing same issue described below. Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace Installation Saga: Please Help!
Hello, I guess you get several helpful hints here, but they go slightly different ways to get results. I guess you have to pick just one way and go along with it. The most natural approach for me with my knowledge seems to be the one Kyle suggests. So far, you try to set up the whole thing at once, including postgres, tomcat, apache and mod_jk. For now, just forget about apache. If you can see your pages under tomcat directly you can try to integrate with apache via mod_jk later on. You can even forget about postgres for now, because you will see a dspace error message in your browser if dspace cant connect to the database. But that is certainly not your problem because you have proven that it works by running fresh_install successfully. You listed your version numbers in the first post and I wondered how you had been able to build dspace when you had only a JRE installed but as it worked you should have a javac in place. You might check this. If my understanding ist fine, the tomcat JSP container uses this javac to compile JSPs at runtime. This is, it wont work properly without a JDK installed. Prove me wrong. Did you compile dspace on the same machine? You probably have ant installed in a recent version? You can see the tomcat homepage which means that tomcat is running. It also recognizes the .war files and unpacks them which means that automatic deployment is working too. Surely, there is no permissions problem at this point. tomcat only reads the .war files, so they can be owned by anybody as long as everybody may read them. While tomcat unpacks these files, it has to be allowed to write to the /webapps dir which it obviously is. It is probably allowed to write to /work which it needs to run any .jsp. You might want to check this. The files tomcat writes to /webapps/dspace are then owned by tomcat which is fine. The only thing not discussed so far is the dspace install directory. You should check whether tomcat is able to write to /dspace-install/assetstore or /dspace-install/history and so on. DSpace is not running which means that you dont have a dspace.log which in turn means that you dont have detailed error messages. If I am wrong with my JRE vs. JDK idea, then the only thing where you can find a fault is in your dspace configuration files. The web.xml does not get changed during a default install, so I would just replace it with the default version if you edited that. Then check the first third of your dspace.cfg file which contains all the important path, database and email settings. The rest of this file deals with special datastores, different thumbnail display and cosmetic stuff. The last thing to look at besides dspace.cfg is the log4j configuration file for dspace. Check whether it makes sense to you. I hope you can find the culprit. Bye, Christian Am 16.11.2007 um 02:59 schrieb Drrty Byl: Thanks Graham. The next step I tried was installing the mod_jk connector using the directions at: http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/ModJk . This did not resolve the problem. Should ProxyRequests On and NameVirtualHost *:80 be uncommented in Apache httpd.conf? Also, do I need to define a location in this file? Does anyone have a working Apache configuration file with changes made in respect to DSpace installation? I get the impression this might somehow be related to the problem. It looks as though Tomcat, although running, is not serving DSpace. Any help to get this functioning is greatly appreciated! Billy - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace Installation: Java-Problem
Oh. I thing You got me wrong! The trouble was made by the postgresql-8.2-506.jdbc4.jar in combination with my Java 1.5 installation. After replacing this by postgresql-8.2-506.jdbc3.jar, I could do the 'fresh_install'. So everything is fine with the PostgreSQL, Java and DSpace documentation in this point. Regards Robert Christian Voelker schrieb: Am 26.10.2007 um 10:09 schrieb Robert Roggenbuck: Thanks! That was the Problem. Starting the PostgreSQL (I solved my access problem with pgadmin), saying 'ant clean' and 'ant fresh_install' and I got finally the message 'BUILD SUCCESSFUL'! Great. It is a bit strange though. The jdbc4.jar is appropriate for Java 1.6 according to the docs, but you listed Java 1.5 as installed on your machine. I think, we cant easily change the docs for the jdbc driver, but we can keep this information in our own space. There is an installation description for Debian or Ubuntu in the wiki. You might want to add your experience there for future reference. Bye, Christian - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Still grepping through log files to find problems? Stop. It is discussed in the docs and it was discussed on this list several times. This guess is not contradictory to Claudias assumption: fresh_install can be run only once against a virgin database. It will always fail with a second try. So you have to remove the database with every try if you succeeded partially as in your example. For the proper jdbc driver go to this page and study the matrix: http://jdbc.postgresql.org/download.html http://jdbc.postgresql.org/download/postgresql-8.2-506.jdbc3.jar I guess, this is your driver and it should be the version that you get if you install through aptitude or whatever you use. If aptitude installs another version, then try this one and check if it works. If this is fine, file a bug to debian. Also, search your Java path for duplicate jdbc drivers of different versions. Maybe, you installed the right version but it does not get used. If you cant connect to postgres through psql then forget about the jdbc driver and fix this first. The pg_hba.conf file is the place to go and learn about.
