Aurinko on sellainen ”mylly”, että siinä on aktiivisuutta itsessäänkin tarpeeksi. Ehkä nyt jokin pitkäaikaisempi periodi – näitähän on havaittu useita – vaikuttaa siihen, että aktiivisuutta on tavanomaista vähemmän. Asiantuntijoiden kanta on, että pidempiaikaisempi ja pilkuttomampi periodi on kuitenkin vahvasti tuloillaan. Ongelmana voi tulevaisuudessa olla keskiaalloillakin se, että aktiivisuuden todella raju väheneminen alkaa vaikuttaa myös näiden matalampien taajuuksien etenemiseen – negatiivisesti.
