[Dx4win] DXCC Spot Window

2003-03-14 Thread Bob Henderson
I puzzled over that a while too. Looks to me like its priority. I guess
its for those folks still using monochrome monitors or perhaps colour blind.
(or is that chromically challenged?)

[Dx4win] DXCC Spot Window

2003-03-14 Thread Mel Martin
It is what determines the color... I think Paul put it is as a debugging
tool... and decided it was useful... helps the less familiar with the color
scheme understand how it works...
It probably would be better if it was the last column instead of first
column as it really doesn't tell you anything if everything is
tickety-boo...

[Dx4win] DX spots sometimes seem to stall-Maybe reason discovered!

2003-03-14 Thread W0YG Charlie Summers
I may have discovered the reason the spots seem to stall. I occasionally
have been having trouble with the date and time randomly changing in my
computer. Not sure why but it does. Just a bit ago I found the date and
time were back in 2000 which may account for the problem. Now that I have
observed this possible affect, I might have an explanation if it happens
again.

I am not sure the reason this happens because I use Tardis to set the
date/time every half hour. There may be more than one problem associated
with the mysterious date/time change as it might stall Tardis too. Not
sure.

Thanks for the inputs/suggestions.

Some time servers are bad, and Tardis will grab a bad time off them. Once I

It was only luck that I noticed the problem.

There is a setting in Tardis called Maximum Correction Allowed which should
prevent this from happening, i.e. it would just ignore a bad server and
set the
time at the next interval.

This is a good point. For reasons I don't understand, some software,
running in the background under windows, can also disrupt timekeeping. I
use automachron for internet time -- a big feature for me when I was
chasing a clock problem was its logging feature that would tell you hoe
much of a correction had been applied each interval. I finally tracked my
problem down to a redundant sound card mixer that was running in the
background! The hardware it related to was disabled in the BIOS but it
kept doing something disruptive anyway.

[Dx4win] Controlling computer time

2003-03-14 Thread Bill Clark
A suggestion, try Dimension 4 from Thinkingman Software. It is freeware that
checks the nbs system at intervals you select. It is freeware available from
http://www.thinkingman.com/~thinkman.

I have been using it for a few years without any problems. Keeps the computer
in sync exactly.

[Dx4win] Custom Awards

2003-03-14 Thread Kent Henneuse
A couple of days back I had asked about setting up a
way to track things like 10-10 numbers and the like.
Easiest way is to just do searches on the Note for
call field and find what you want.

Well, last night I discovered another great way to
track awards. Not sure if it is a neat feature that
only a few people use or if it is common, but hear
goes.

If you look in the online help under custom awards you
will find that there is a file that you can put your
own awards into. This file is located in the save
directory under you dx4win directory. The file is
named dx4win.awd It is a simple text file that you
can edit with a text editor like Notepad. Each entry
gives the layout for awards that you want to track.
For me I wanted to find a way to track FIST numbers.
I added the following entry to the bottome of the
file:

[FIST]
awdname=Fists CC
modes=NYN
pictmsk=99

I won't describe each of the fields because the user
guide does a much better job then I can. I will say
that the modes are listed as SSB CW FSK so if you have
NYN the only mode valid is CW if you put YNY the award
is valid for SSB and FSK.

The only bummer is you can't input a 10-10 number
when 10-10 is selected and then input a FIST number
when Fists CC is selected. (Potential feature).
