Subject: F8 search bug

I think I squashed the F8 search bug thanks to Rick, K0XB.

When creating a membership list, I did not filter an empty line which created

an entry for an empty callsign. When starting a filter, the callsign field is
cleared but the membership field was initialized using the empty callsign (the
@ in both cases)

The search failed unless you searched for a callsign in that @ list!

So the quick solution is to recreate your list but watch out for empty lines.

My new code guards against this happening in the future.

Thank you for your patience,

[Dx4win] WAS Oddity

2018-12-28 Thread John Holmes
I was looking at my WAS stats for 2018 and the report indicated I had worked
FIFTY ONE states. Thinking that was rather impossible I did a bit of
research and found that an invalid entry had resulted in mystery state #51.
When looking at the WAS report, at the very bottom is the mystery state with
a state name of the letter "C" and the St column has "|l" as the state. It
indicates that it has been confirmed for MIX, PHO & DIG on 160, 80 and 30
but clicking on that "confirmation" results in "no matching QSO found"
response and the entry box is empty except the state "SL" with a red "S". No
matter how I sort the data I can't find this one. Can anybody suggest a way
to repair what apparently is a corrupt database for this single entry?

[Dx4win] MMTTY Issue

2017-11-13 Thread John Holmes
I am using the latest version of MMTTY 1.70K. When I launch MMTTY using the
WINDOW>MMTTY menu in DX4WIN 9.02, the bottom 1/4 of the following are
missing: the FFT display, the squelch bar and the waterfall. If I enlarge
MMTTY to full screen then reduce the size to the normal size (about 2"
tall), the displays are OK. Not a big deal but irritating. If I launch MMTTY
directly from the desktop (not through DX4WIN) it appears as it should,
correctly at 2"high. MMTTY is located in c:\ham\MMTTY. Any ideas?

[Dx4win] A Minor Issue

2017-11-02 Thread John Holmes
I am running the latest version 9.02.1134 and noticed something odd. In
going through my incoming bureau QSL cards I found one for which I had
busted the call. I found him in my logbook viewer and brought the incorrect
QSO to the screen. Then I changed the callsign to the correct one and
pressed . I would have received a "Do you want to make the changes"
warning previously but this did not happen and the callsign could not be
corrected. If I changed the QSL route, etc. and pressed , the
modified QSL route would be saved and the corrected callsign would also be
saved.
Just a minor issue.

Good news:

I pulled out my laptop running Windows XP which is fully up-to-date on
fixes and I can duplicate the problem there too.

Bad news:

The fix I tried, which makes the program work on Windows XP, does NOT
work on Windows 7.

1. If you have the update problem, were you running Windows XP or
Windows Vista/7?

2. Does anyone running Windows XP *NOT* have the problem? This is
also important information.

I know the Perl libraries have some issues with Daylight Savings Time.
I thought I had fixed this last fall, but apparently not. It may not
be fully fixable without re-writing the program using a Microsoft
compiler, which I just don't have time to do.

Maybe the fix is something like if the file on the web sit differs
*MORE* than one hour from the file on the computer, then it needs
updating. I hadn't thought of this as a possible solution until
right now. This means if I release updates, they must be more then
one hour apart. I think I can live with this restriction.

Thanks - Jim

[Dx4win] QSX Info

2011-11-21 Thread John Holmes
All, I am missing something about the QSX frequency when spotting DX that is
operating split. I never have a QSX frequency indicated and must input it

the frequency on the rig, the PC bandmap follows. Likewise, when I click on
a frequency on the bandmap, the rig changes to that frequency. However the
QSX frequency for my spot always is 0.00. I assume this is a configuration
issue but I can't locate the problem area. Any help would be appreciated.

[Dx4win] Speaking of /0

2011-07-18 Thread John Holmes
All,

At the end of the NAQP I was told by a station that I was calling that I
should drop the /8 from my call (W9ILY/8) as it is not used in contests.
Actually, that person was not correct in that some contests specifically
state that the call zone must be indicated if different from the licensed
call zone. The station I was working refused to add the /8 after my call, so
I guess it won't count for one of us, probably him as he won't report the
correct call.

As many of you know, I have operated from a number of states and have used
/7, /8, /9 and /0, mainly to differentiate between the operating locations.
If I were only to give my name and state (with a variety of states such as
OR, IA, MT, NE, WY, ND, SD, WI, IN, OH, MI, etc. from which I have operated)
I'm sure that the correct state would be questioned many times. Am I not
correct in this thinking? I sure don't want to make it more difficult for
the receiving station to copy the correct info the very first time. In all
the operations that I have made, this is the very first time that I have
been told to drop the /8 suffix.

[Dx4win] Hyperlog V4.09d

For those on the reflector who might be able to use the info regarding

that does provide an ADIF output.
Hope this info is useful.

Hi Mike.
Attached is the hyperlog.adi file that you can use to import into DX4WIN. I
tried it and it works OK. When you import it, simply choose to import an
ADIF file, not the Hyperlog choice down the list. You will note that a
number of errors will be reported. You'll have to page through the log and
fix them. Some are not a big deal, some are (like missing dates, etc). It
shouldn't be hard to fix them, just a bit time consuming.
I've also included two other files, a full text output of your log and a
compressed report where some of the info is not included but it is easier to
read. These may be helpful is identifying/correcting the errors that are
reported.
Hope all this helps and glad you're moving up to DX4WIN. Great program!!

Getting ADIF out of Hyperlog and into DX4WIN is the easiest path, if
 Hyperlog can generate ADIF.

[Dx4win] LoTW Upload Date

2010-04-01 Thread John Holmes
Hi All.
A friend has been using 7.02 and is about to convert to 8.03 that he has
purchased. Prior to the upgrade, he would like to upload all QSO's to LoTW.
This should be simple, but there is a problem. Apparently on 3/15/2009 he
generated an LoTW upload file in error that was really not supposed to
happen. Of course, the LoTW Upload date was set. Now, he's ready to make the
real upload and the 3/15/2009 date can't be removed, even from a single
QSO that has the 3/15/2009 upload date. Any ideas as to how this date can be
removed?
Thanks and 73,

John W9ILY

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Upload Date

2010-04-01 Thread John Holmes
Hi Jim.
Thanks for the tip. We had already tried using the Multiple QSO option to
change the upload date by using blanks and of course it didn't work. We also
tried to change them to 01/01/1901 as you suggested, but no luck there,
either. You know, even if we try to change the upload date on a single QSO
record with the upload date of 03/15/2009, the date will not change. All of
the records after 3/15/2009 change as would be expected. Could the database
be somehow be corrupted? Is there a fix? As a last choice, we have the
records in a .csv file, so we could convert them to .adi, but we'd like to
get the program working correctly.
Thanks and 73,

John W9ILY

There's a Multiple QSO Operation to set the upload date. Set it to
all blanks, or try 01/01/1901 if all blanks doesn't work. You may
have to set your preferences to expert mode to do this.

[Dx4win] Members list

2010-03-12 Thread John Holmes
I really love the new Members field for packet spots and am wondering if a
future release of DX4WIN could include a Members field in the actual logging
area, perhaps in the empty area adjacent to the QSL method? It would be really
great if one could tell if a call is a member of a specific group before
actually having the callsign entered as a packet spot. Just an idea.

Re: [Dx4win] 8.02 MMTTY Issue

2010-01-30 Thread John Holmes
The conflict I was having with PTT and rig control between MMTTY and DX4WIN
has been solved. In order to avoid the conflict, I needed to use EXTFSK to
point to COM2 for MMTTY PTT rather than directly selecting COM2 in the MMTTY
configuration. When using EXTFSK pointing to COM2, there is no conflict and
all works correctly. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.

[Dx4win] Set Name and QTH in 8.02

2009-12-24 Thread John Holmes
Hi.
I've been working with the Multiple QSO Operations for Set Name and QTH in
8.02. Unfortunately, many of my QSO's have extraneous data that I'd like to
either edit or delete. In order to do this, I'd like to see each entry
before it's changed in 8.02. I know this is a time intensive method, but it
will result (I hope) in a cleaner and more accurate log. When I select the
Set Name and QTH option and choose Start, the program checks each entry in
the database in callsign order, regardless of date. It always starts this
way. If I cancel the program after making some changes, the changes I have
made to that point are saved, but when I start it again at a later time, it
begins at the start of the database with some entries that I have seen
before and chosen to accept them. I've tried to apply filters to limit
date ranges with no effect. Is there an easy way to do this so I don't have
to start over each time?
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

[Dx4win] COM Ports (again)

2009-05-26 Thread John Holmes
I just encountered a problem that had not previously appeared. I'm running
version 7.07.02 and can no longer have both radio control and MMTTY running
at the same time. MMTTY is assigned to COM2 and radio control to COM3. I can
either run MMTTY or have radio control, not both. They are connected to a
two port serial card with one port assigned COM2 with an I/O range of
AC00-AC07 IRQ22 and the other port is assigned COM3 with an I/O range of
A800-A807 and IRQ22. Yes, the IRQ numbers are the same, but it's virtually
impossible to manually change them in XP Home. When using N1MMLogger, I have
no problems, but do with DX4Win. I even tried loading two of the previous
versions of DX4Win but there is no difference. I am certain that this worked
OK in the past. Any ideas, guys? Thanks.

Hi Jim.
Unfortunately, this isn't easily possible when using XP Home. I had thought
the same myself, but no joy there.
Thanks for the idea, anyway.

Right-click on My Computer, choose Properties, then click on the
Device Manager button. Select the + sign next to the COM (serial)
ports.

If you right-click on a port, then you should be able to select both
device address and IRQ. The standard values for those two ports are:

Com 2 address 02F8 IRQ 3
Com 3 address 03E8 IRQ 4

You'll likely have to reboot after making this change.

Re: [Dx4win] COM Ports (again)

2009-05-26 Thread John Holmes
Hello Kostas.
Thank you for the suggestions. I found the problem while looking at the
MMTTY settings. I had selected EXTFSK as the PTT port instead of COM2. When
I changed it to COM2, all appears to work correctly, both DX4Win and
N1MMLogger. Thanks, again.

I syggest to run mmtty first.
Pse check if any port is checked there (in mmtty)
If yes uncheck them (if you run afsk)
if you run fsk uncheck only the radio port and check the ptt/fsk port
run dx4win now
under filepreferencesradio you must have the radio port, that is com3
and under filepreferencescw check com2 and ptt control under rts line

Run mmtty inside dx4win
right click in bottom of mmtty window and choose keying setup. Here check
ptt control and rts agn.
one disavantage of dx4win-mmtty combination, is that you can not use the
same com port for ptt and fsk.
