Cesar,

In full agreement with your suggestion - have used DX4WIN for many years (37
years of logs with every contact included in my DX4WIN), but it needs
dramatic updating/enhancement (my opinion).

TQSL version 1.14 working flawless here. I wish DX4WIN integrates TQSL
and does upload the signed TQ8 on the fly.

testing

Over the past 4 months, Rick K1MU, Robert KC2YWE, and I have rebooted the
Trusted QSL project from which the TQSL and TQSLCert
applications and the TrustedQSL library are built. After considering input
from
ARRL Management, from the ARRL?s LotW Support Group,
and from this ARRL-LotW Yahoo Group, we established a set of priorities
that
would be addressed by a sequence of incremental
releases. The first release in this sequence is version 1.14, in which

 1. Log files can be signed and uploaded over the internet to LotW in
 one operation.
 2. Errors in Station Locations are reported (e.g. incorrect CQ and ITU
zones).
 3. QSOs that need not be re-submitted ('duplicates') are brought to
 the user's attention.
 4. Error reporting has been improved.
 5. Installation on Windows has been improved.
 6. Users are notified when a new version becomes available.
 7. Documentation has been improved.

 A small group of testers began exercising version 1.14 on March 10th;
this testing exposed several defects, all of which have been
corrected. We are now ready to begin the next stage of testing: every
member of this Yahoo Group is invited to download version 1.14,
install it, and give it a try. Questions, defect reports, and
 suggestions should be posted here.

The current release candidate v1.14-rc5 is available via

  http://www.arrl.org/trustedqsl-beta-release

You can review the documentation for v1.14-rc5 before you download and

Try checking RTS (RTS High). If CAT RTS in the rig is Enable,
it expects RTS High in order to send data from the rig to the
computer. Otherwise set CAT RTS TO *disable* in the rig.

 Tony,

What interface are you using between the computer and radio?

The new Yaesu rigs expect RTS handshake - if you have a real
serial port or USB to serial converter with a cable that has all
9 wires set RTS=ON. If you don't have all 9 - or at least
 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 7-7 and 8-8, go into the rig's menu as set CAT
 RTS to *disable*.

The new Yaesu rigs also have a time-out timer on the CAT line.
Go into the rig's menu and set CAT TOT to *at least 1000*.

Those those two settings seem to be the key to a lot of Yaesu
 CAT issues.

The grid feature only (I think) works with Radio Amateur Callbook, on

web browser. No way to get the info into DX4WIN except by copy/paste.

I'm using XP for my radio computer, not Win7. The rig file should have
nothing to do with COM port connectivity, however. It just formats the
commands sent to the radio. If you're using a USB to Serial converter, it
could be a difficulty with the driver. Also, be sure you set the K3 for
38400 baud. Most of the USB converters seem to have trouble throttling back
to lower data rates.

If you'd like to try it, I've attached the modified rig file. Just copy it
to the Radios directory and select it in the Preferences. I seem to recall
that the order in which frequency and mode commands are sent needed to be
reversed from the older version, but I'm not sure. Hope you find the file
useful.

Hi all
My situation is slightly different.
I have my main log F6EXV as a stand-alone log, so that statistics and so on
are appropriate.
I manage several operations like TO5FJ, PJ7X to just name 2, so I do not
want to mix these calls with any other.
When I have to print a label for TO5FJ, I have to go to
Files/Preferences/Rep-Label and change the2 lines of comments. Then I print
the lables. If I need to print a label from PJ7X to that same station, I
have to go over all the process again.
The difference in the label comments are not necesarily only the callsign.

In other words, I wish I could define a label (size and comment) for each
callsign. Then, when I open a different log, I should be able to select the
TO5FJ or PJ7X label under QSLs/Print QSL label instead of modifying
each time I change logs.

Any idea ?

[Dx4win] Future Possibility?

2011-11-22 Thread Tony McClenny
Any plan to make it possible to download Name, QTH, State and County data
and automatically place in proper fields within the program? Working on
counties and having to manually check each newly logged station via qrz.com
is painful, when I suspect software could connect, check, download.

Does anyone know if any logging program provides this feature? Thanks in
advance for feedback.

I found it. It was obvious once I had your DX4WIN.CFG file and saw
your country window - there were NO CW credits for any entity!

File | Awards. Should come up to the DXCC tab. In the lower-left
section (valid modes), check CW. then OK. Before clicking OK,
make sure your other mode selections in the box are correct.

The CE works now.

2011-10-17 Thread Tony McClenny
Experienced this?

Received a number of qsl cards today with one for a contact CE2/CX1EK on
03-10-2011 @ 23:06 GMT on 12 meters via CW.

Placed a checkmark in the Cnfm box and moved on the next entry - the
confirmed contact does not show up in my Country window nor my reports for
DXCC. The other cards received and posted are just as they should be. I
have the card and know I posted it and yet 12 meters CW shows nothing - no
w, no m and worse no C.

Ideas on what to check would be appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone

Re: [Dx4win] 2011 Radio Amateur Call book DX4WIN

2011-06-25 Thread Tony McClenny
Alan,

Although when I press (F3 followed by ENTER) my v.8.05 does look up qrz.com
information, it never inserts any information in the DX4WIN Callsign/Mgr
lookup window. In the same window, the text Update QSO is always grayed
out whether US or DX station. Perhaps you can advise what I may be doing
incorrectly or NOT doing as the case may be.

Question regarding your statement, Note: Be sure the AUTO UPDATE tab is
clicked when using F3 so that when you
log or check another call the address will follow to the new call.

Where is this tab located? I do not seem to find it. Thank you.

I concur. You should notice in the bottom of the F3 window the UPDATE QSO
button is only active for USA stations. For DX it is grayed out. To
accomplish what you want to do for DX (non USA) stations is to use F3 to
open the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP window. The address will appear in this window.
Then click on the first line of the address and scroll down so the complete
address is highlighted. Then do an ALT+M which will transfer the address to
the QSL MGR box in the main logging window. This will be the address that is
printed on labels when you print QSL labels.

Note: Be sure the AUTO UPDATE tab is clicked when using F3 so that when you
log or check another call the address will follow to the new call.

Please implement XML lookup for paid subscribers ( QRZ ) ASAP.

One of the things you should be most proud of is the outstanding support you
get from AD1C and others. It certainly has been one of the reasons I
continue to use and Support DX4win.

This is a quote from one of Jim's AD1Cs recent reflector posts:

Maybe more incentive for Paul to implement XML lookup for paid
subscribers:

Here is another from another one of your great technical supporters:

I am not a subscriber to qrz xml but if Paul adds this i 'll subscribe for

I think all of the better logging programs already have or will make this
improvement. So why wouldn't DX4WIN a World Class software package do
the same?

I hope others agree?

File | Import/Export
Select ADIF

Navigate to ADIF file to import and select it (OK). DX4WIN will ask

 Then import.

Both import and merge (from another .DXL file) give you this prompt.

This is all described in the help, Contents | Index then import

Hi Tony,

Is it the Packet Spots window (the one you type SH/DX into) or the DX

update? If the latter, right-click on the window and choose Clear All

[Dx4win] 30 Meters / SSB

2009-11-03 Thread Tony McClenny
I don't know how I did it. I did not wish to do it. I am unable to fix
it.

When I click on a packet spot for 30 meters, my radio immediately goes to
the correct frequency, BUT it always goes into SSB mode. I have attempted
to use the

File | Databases | Radios | routine without success. I click on Mode
Values and change it to CW - there is a checkmark in the Prefer box. I
click on File | Save Changes and Exit. When I complete this routine, my
radio is Off and if I open File | Preferences | Radio the type of radio is
blank so I have no radio control. If I then select my radio Elecraft K3
X4 and save the changes and exit, my radio is again controlled by DX4Win.

Can someone point me in the correct direction as my actions are taking me in
a circle and I never seem to accomplish my goal.

5. You will see the values 3 and 7

7. File save changes and exit

When I do the above with the radio on or off, the software loses contact

None.

I have tried both the Elecraft K3 and Elecraft K3 X4

I am operating radio interface at 38400, Address 00

no embedded spaces, no left or right brackets, no callsign

%20 is a space, so D4W thinks there is a space after the final /

 Hi Tony,

This appears to be a font problem on your system.  They are hotkeys in
the logbook, and show up as _C_ (underlined C in Callsign) and _T_
(underlined T in Time) on my screen.

Did you have this problem with 8.01?  Can you try renaming DX4WIN.CFG
in the SAVE directory to see if the problem goes away?

Re: [Dx4win] A strange thing

2009-08-23 Thread Tony McClenny
Tibor,

I tried the two virtual port software products suggested to you and neither
worked for me. I then downloaded LP-Bridge from www.telepostinc.com
(freeware) and it works beautifully with my radio (K3) on COM1 and mmtty,
winpsk, and cwdecoder all operating on virtual ports, which direct data
through the same COM1 port used by DX4Win. I am sending Larry, the author,
a donation as his product is terrific (my opinion). I just learned of his
product this week and tried the oldest version first, then the newer version
and finally downloaded and installed the current beta product, which is
working well and loads in my computer startup file.

To have multiple software products share one hardware COM port and to work
as expected is wonderful.

I was frustrated and did not wish to spend a hundred or more dollars for a
hardware interface. TRY IT - I AM CERTAIN YOU WILL LIKE IT!

Hy guys.

My set up is a TS2000X with CAT made via Ham Radio Deluxe.

Connection Is made with a serial/USB converter @ 57600

PC is an AMD Athlon @ 1 GHz, 640 RAM and Win XP sp3

Of course if I try to connect DX4WIN to my radio, PC says that the com is
busy.

If I connect DX4WIN without running Ham Radio Deluxe, all is ok, band map is
ok, no problem.

Yesterday in a forum someone talked to me about Virtual Serial Ports
Emulator freeware software (VSPE).

I immediately installed the software and after some minutes I was able to
create a virtual com where to address Dx4WIN AND HRD.

Fantastic: when I receive a spot I click on that, it change me the setting
of the radio, HRD show all the new parameters and in the Dx4WIN I get the
call in the right place.

All works ok.BUT:

Looking at the band map, it flickers: the vertical, qrg line moves from left
to right and than again right to left.

The frequency showed on the top of band map start from the right one and
step by step goes down..down..down to zero.without moving the real QRG on
the radio.

On the QSO input window, the same happen in the frequency display. But even
the mode and the band are changing step by step without sense.

I tried to set the radio on 18140 SSB, on the band map the frequency starts
to move down. In the QSO window problem is that the mode changes to CW, and
so on and even the qrg moves. If I log the qso dx4win doesn't get the real
data but what is displaying at that time.

I have tried to reduce the com speed down to 9600 but nothing has changed.

So I returned to my old setting.but there is any way to fix the problem?

HRD + DX4WIN are just the best of the two worlds and being able to run them
connected to the radio is certainly fantastic.

John,

Place the downloaded master file list into your DX4WIN folder. Load DX4win
and click on Window then Master Calls. Right click on the Master
Lookup window and select Convert. The Open window will display your
DX4win folder. Select the file MASTER.DTA by double clicking on it and
DX4win will open the file, convert it for use with DX4win and display
another window, Information, which will indicate Conversion finished
44927 Calls. The first time you enter a Callsign you will see the
MasterLookup window display a list of similar callsigns. Hope this helps

Re: [Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

2009-08-08 Thread Tony McClenny

Bud,

If someone helps your or you finally master the problem, please share as I
am experiencing the same and cannot figure it out. I have tried to
suggested software, which supposedly supports multiple software programs all
using the same COM port with no success thus far.

Previously, (Kenwood 570D) I used a Rigblaster pro and that allowed
everything to work with a single COM port (CW, PSK, SSB and RTTY). Thus far
I am making slow progress with K3 (wonderful radio).

1. The radio is a K3. The DX4WIN radio selection in preferences is Elecraft
K3 X4.

DX4WIN in radio preferences has Com 5 set for the radio. Both DTR and
RTS are checked.

2. I unchecked DX4WIN Radio Preference DTR and RTS and selected PSK31 PTT
control setting.
Still not keying the transmitter.

3. DX4WIN CW is set for COM 5, DTR Line CW Keying, RTS Line PTT Control.
This setting works for sending CW.

In PSK31 Settings I have keying line set to DTR and PTT set to PTT control.
No transmitter keying with this setup.

If I change PSK31 PTT to Com 5 I get the device already open error.
I think this produces a conflict with DX4WIN claiming Com 5 and PSK31 also
trying to claim Com 5. This is just a guess
by
me.

I still don't know how to key the K3 transmitter in PSK31.

Baud Rate 38400

Notes for radioblank

Com Port Com5
Poll Rate 1000 (ms)
Max tries 6
DTR high unchecked
RTS high unchecked

There is no second radio. My previous Kenwood TS-570D when connected does
not cause excessive CPU usage. Suggestions please!!!

DX4WIN v.7.07.02 radio settings are:

Radio: Elecraft K3 X4

COM Port: 1
Poll rate: 1000

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW, DX4WIN and contest logs

2009-03-15 Thread Tony McClenny
Tom could not have expressed my exact sentiments any better. I have DX4Win
for many years and after each contest I merge my contest log into DX4Win
thus having every contact I have ever made in a single, easy to access log.
Prior to using DX4Win I wrote a logging program first in dBase II on a CPM
O/S and later in dBase III (I think) and finally in dBase IV so my own log
program worked for a number of years. Finally, someone wrote a far better
program and I purchased and upgraded it ever since.

At this time, I use N1MM for all contest activity - a great gift to amateur
radio. In a few minutes time, after the contest, my N1MM export is imported
into DX4Win. Try it you will most likely really be glad you did.

Tom,

I agree wholeheartedly with Mel. I use DX4Win as my core logging program,
and N1MM as my contesting software. After every contest I export/import into

DX4Win using the nice ADIF2DXQ.exe utility from AD1C.

Disk space is cheap. DX4Win can handle your QSO counts. Bring the contest
records into DX4Win and let it be your core logging program and your ONLY
point of origin for QSL'ing -- including uploads into LoTW.

EDITORIAL: LoTW, despite its name, is NOT a logging program and could best
be described as eHarmony.com for QSOs, with ARRL Award credits. LoTW
permits duplicate uploaded QSO records and there is no mechanism (nor plan)
to offer a delete QSO function. I think each DXer needs a single composite

view of their QSO counts, totals, awards, and QSL status. If you maintain
two sources of QSO knowledge, and/or start QSLing from two applications
(N1MM and DX4Win) you run the risk of eventually duplicating records on
LoTW... which means your total LoTW QSO upload count will never reconcile
with your local QSO count(s). As an ex-IT database guy, that scenario makes
my head hurt.

 Hi Tom.

I just can't think of any good reason not to import all your contacts
into DX4Win. I would seem to me to be a lot easier to keep track/backup
of one large log instead of dozens of small ones. I use Writelog. After
the contest I import everything and delete all contest logs after a few
 months have elapsed.

 Tom Brown wrote:
Soliciting opinions on this. I keep my everyday log in DX4WIN but also
operate contests from time to time using N1MM logger. I'm pretty high
with most award counts so it's rare that I work a new one during a
contest, although a band credit here or there is possible. I do not
import my contest logs into DX4WIN because I don't feel the need to bring

in so many unneeded records. Lately, I've been thinking about uploading
my contest logs to LOTW and then picking up only LOTW confirmations from
the contest and importing them into my log when I do my normal DX4WIN
LOTW up and down. Any opinions on this? Pros and cons?

[Dx4win] Computer Running at 98% CPU Usage with DX4WIN and new radio

2009-03-10 Thread Tony McClenny
Just connected my new Elecraft K3 transceiver to computer and my computer
indicates DX4WIN is using my entire CPU time. My preference settings are:

Radio:

Type Elecraft K3 (also tried Elecraft K3 X4)
Address00
Baud Rate 4800
Both default boxes are checked

Notes for radioblank

Com Port Com5
Poll Rate 1000 (ms)
Max tries 6
DTR high checked
RTS high checked

There is no second radio. My previous Kenwood TS-570D when connected does
not cause excessive CPU usage. Suggestions please!!!
