Thanks, It must be something else that is installed here that is
intercepting the F9 key before it gets to DX4WIN. I'll try to track
it down.

Jim,

I always have the F3 window open, and I have never heard the Windows bell as
you describe. My QSO entry is completely silent. I wonder if you
inadvertently turned on a Windows system sound setting. I am running 9.0.9
and Windows 10 latest updates.

I usually have the headphones on when I'm adding QSOs. What I think may
have happened is that I recently raised the Windows volume to listen to a
baseball game, and that made it just loud enough to hear the bells while
wearing headphones.

I don't know why DX4WIN would do this when adding a new QSO with the
F3 window showing, but I guess it's been there all along.

I just updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Everything went
smoothly. All drivers, COM ports etc. were preserved. Great!

Now in DX4WIN, everytime I type F9 to add a new QSO, the Windows
"bell" rings. I am using the QRZ XML lookup and have the F3 window
displayed at all times. If I close the F3 window, the bell goes away.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I don't know, but I just tried leaving the QSL Mgr/Callsign (F3) window
open like you describe, and I get the ding when I press F9, too. I
haven't upgraded to Win11 yet, so it seems this is a feature, not a bug.
